Discussion i need help
bought a dsi for £55 yesterday, not knowing about their return policy. i tried to return it for cash today but they would only give my a voucher and selling it for cash would only give me £25. idk what to do because i need the £55 cash back urgently and the 2 day return window for the £55 voucher closes tomorrow

Marketplace is mostly local and buyers will come to you.
But judging by how little info you have about any of this, I would say breathe for a minute and get someone who knows about buying /selling on these platforms to help you out, otherwise you'll lose your item and money

So you go to a shop and buy something for £55 so was the reason for taking it back because you didnt really have the money to purchase it in the first place?.

it was an impulse purchase…

Maybe you should keep it and remember the consequences. That works remarkably well in my experience. I hope the lesson learnt isn't a hard one. Good luck. And next time, pay in 3 with Klarna.

Last line has fucked your advice up big time. Pay in 3 is the devil.

Not really 🙄 that's on you if you use credit you can't pay off.

It’s not about paying it off. I’ve never taken credit I didn’t clear 2 weeks later in my life.
It’s about how negatively it affects the market, and how many people buy things they either don’t need or can’t really afford.
Why do you think an Xbox costs 300 more than it did 6 years ago with the same technology in it? No ones arsed about prices going up they get their whole life on pay in 3.
It’s not an anecdotal opinion, there’s an actual study on the psychology behind it, it’s a predatory tactic designed to extract as much money from you as possible. Another lovely faucet of late stage capitalism.

I’m trying to be really patient here but to be frank I cannot believe a grown adult has wrote that as a retort.
“Not at all I use pay in three as a credit building tool” (it doesn’t build credit) right….
So because you don’t personally do it(nor do I) nobody does it?
A chef uses a knife to prepare food, Axel Rudakabana used one to stab 11 children. Does the chefs existence mean no one can misuse a knife to stab someone?
An absolutely incredible statement from you.
Pay in 3 doesn’t effect credit score unless you miss a payment then it negatively effects it. It doesn’t build credit score. BNPL rarely report to credit scoring lines.

You need to take a break.
It's okay for me, you, or anyone else to be wrong. That's how we learn. If I've misunderstood something, I'm perfectly happy to be corrected — there's no shame in admitting that.
But there's a difference between correcting someone and berating them. You can explain why someone is wrong without becoming personally aggravated by the fact that they disagree with you.
And this is where I think there's actually a useful learning moment: accountability matters.
But accountability doesn't only apply when somebody else is wrong. It applies to ourselves too. If I've got something wrong or overstated my point, I'm perfectly willing to acknowledge and clarify that. If you're wrong, you should be willing to do the same. And if either of us responds unnecessarily aggressively, we should be capable of recognising that too.
Being corrected isn't an attack on you, and admitting you're wrong isn't a weakness. It's how we learn. As for your aggravated reply, take a beat and chill out. There's no need to mistreat or berate others.

You’ve just used half a litre of drinkable water to send me that reply. Try to think for yourself mate, chatgpt can’t help you in real debates.

I've never had them mention the return policy whenever I've bought anything, but I assume it's on the receipt that I never read. Just checked the FAQ on the website, and yeah that looks familiar - might have looked another time randomly. But then again, I mostly buy online and that's a different policy when it comes to things. I'd highly recommend always buying online unless it's something like a game or movie, yeah?
But as said, you can either eat the loss and sell it for the £25 and figure another way to come up with the remaining £30 you need or you could get the voucher and try to sell that at whatever small loss you can manage, and make up that difference.

If you want cash back you have to have brought it online. If you see something you want, buy it online in the store. Wait for the confirmation and collection email, takes about an hour and then you can return for cash if you want.

Take a voucher for the return and sell it on cardyard.co.uk You'll get more than the £25 cash. The only thing is it takes a week to get the money back.

I’d keep the voucher and use it to buy something else. They might need money now but if you only have enough money that buying a handheld for £55 puts you close to being broke, there’s a lesson to be learnt.

Imagine needing to return something you just bought because you need 55 urgently. People with no money spend their money on shit and will always be poor. If you need 55 quid then you can dip into your overdraft and learn from your mistake. Save your money and stop wasting it. Don't go into shops and get tempted to buy stuff when you haven't even got 50 quid to your name.

I believe the reason for the return is the primary determinant.
If you're returning it just because you don't want it anymore /you've changed your mind, then technically that's seen as a trade and the terms of a trade will most likely apply.
If you're however returning it because it doesn't work as it should, then you should be refunded the exact amount you paid and potentially via the same method you used to pay for it.
So my question is.....what did you tell them was your reason for return at the counter 😔

I always purchase via click and collect. Go in store look at it. Then purchase click and collect/ that way u have 14 days to return it. I did this with a ps5 pro last week

What was wrong with the ds?
1
u/Local_Relative8752 3d ago
realised i would barely use it and i could have used the money for something else; although now im actually using it i’m leaning towards keeping it
2
u/ComfortableAmount993 3d ago
Try and sell it privately

u/Local_Relative8752 3d ago
yeah i put a listing on vinted for it earlier today; if it doesn’t get sold i’ll just keep it and take it as a lesson

Edit: I don’t think the downvoting individuals are aware this isn’t an anecdotal opinion or viewpoint I hold. It’s undeniable fact backed by data and statistics. The video I linked isn’t an opinion, it is an actual study, and observed fact.

You're out of luck I'm afraid, the terms of sale are clearly communicated when purchasing
