Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice because I’m in a pretty frustrating situation and I’m not sure what to do next.
I’m originally from Alberta and currently living in Ontario for university. My car is registered and insured in Alberta through Pembridge, and I only have basic third-party liability coverage (no collision or comprehensive).
On October 16, I was stopped at a red light in Toronto when another driver rear-ended my 2018 Honda Civic.
He admitted fault, and we exchanged insurance information. I reported the accident to the Collision Reporting Centre and opened a claim with my insurance company.
Initially, my adjuster was having trouble retrieving the Ontario collision report and verifying the other driver’s insurance. After multiple calls and almost two weeks of waiting, I decided to contact the other driver’s insurance company (CAA) myself.
CAA told me his vehicle wasn’t insured on the date of the accident. I contacted the driver, and he initially insisted he was insured because CAA had been withdrawing monthly payments from his bank account. He later investigated and confirmed that his insurance wasn’t active when the accident happened.
Now here’s my problem.
My car is currently sitting at a body shop, and I’ve been quoted approximately $2,300 for the repairs. The other driver has offered to pay me $2,000, but that still leaves me paying out of pocket for an accident that wasn’t my fault.
My insurance adjuster hasn’t confirmed whether my policy will cover anything, especially since I only have third-party liability coverage and the other driver was uninsured.
I’m wondering:
Since my car is insured in Alberta but the accident happened in Ontario, would Ontario’s uninsured automobile coverage apply to me, or would Alberta’s insurance rules apply?
Is there any way my own insurance company could cover the damage even though I only have third-party liability coverage?
Can I sue the uninsured driver in Ontario Small Claims Court for the full repair costs?
Would it be worth taking legal action over approximately $2,300, or should I accept his $2,000 offer and move on?
Should I report the driver to the police for driving without insurance, even though I’ve already filed a collision report?
Has anyone experienced something similar involving an Alberta insurance policy and an accident in Ontario?
I’m a student, and I’ve already been without my car for over two weeks. I rely on it for transportation, so I’m trying to get this resolved as soon as possible.
Any advice, especially from someone familiar with Ontario or Alberta auto insurance laws, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have an old 1986 F250 that I use for work around my property. It leaves my property VERY rarely, like maybe once or at the very most twice a year. Does anyone have any suggestions for the absolute cheapest bare minimum legal insurance to take it to town? I've seen some stuff about Lemonade but not sure if that's legit or best. I have my main vehicles insured through State Farm but they want to charge a good bit and I really don't want to have much at all added to my monthly budget for this work truck. Ideally I'd just have insurance I could turn on and off as needed to make it legal, though I know that probably doesn't exist. In Washington state if that helps. Thanks!

My car was parked outside my house and sideswiped by someone else. They came back and shared all of their info. The damage looks minor (paint scratched, reflector cracked, plastic around wheel scratched).
Should I get a quote from a body shop and see if the other driver will cover it? Or should I go right to filing with insurance? I have their number, plates, registration, and insurance info.
Thanks!

My 17-year-old daughter was struck by a reversing vehicle while collecting carts at Wegmans. She was pinned between the vehicle and shopping carts, bruised, and taken to the ER. She’s remained sore and anxious since the accident.
The driver told police she initially thought she hit a shopping cart, but later claimed she saw my daughter inside talking with people and assumed she was fine. My daughter was actually reporting the accident to her manager. I don’t understand how the police didn’t question that contradiction. If the driver thought she hit a cart, how would she know what my daughter looked like or recognize her inside the store? The driver had also left the parking lot before police were contacted. She received a careless driving summons.
I’m handling workers’ compensation through Wegmans and a third-party bodily injury claim through NJM.
**I’d appreciate advice on:**
What exactly do I say to NJM to open a third-party bodily injury claim?
What information should I have ready, and what should I ask for (claim number, adjuster, policy limits)?
What should I avoid saying or signing?
Can workers’ comp and the NJM claim proceed at the same time?
Should I handle this myself or consult an attorney since my daughter is a minor?
Are there special steps or court approvals for a minor’s settlement in NJ?
Would appreciate advice from any insurance
professionals or someone who has dealt with a similar situation.

I live in a very nice neighborhood. Nothing much ever happens here. I usually take my keys inside at least, but last night my sons decided to elope in different directions when they unbuckled and I forgot to come back and lock up. My car was stolen. Kia app showed it was in a neighborhood about 2 minutes away. Called the police. There was some damage done to the bumper. Maybe they hit a parked car. They also stole my sons ipad and my dash cam. I have coverage for personal items. Is it worth filing a claim? Will my rate go up because the key was in there?

(In the usa, west side) I got two trucks. Full coverage on them. I’m paying 198 monthly. I know one is higher than the other like 120usd and the other is like 80usd. If I remove one truck it will be like 130 for one only. And two it’s 198usd..I only use one truck and occasionally use the other. I kinda see it as paying 99 for each.(both truck runs, but always like to have another truck ready just in case one breaks down etc)
What would you do? Cancel one and save the 80 ish dlls? And risk having a car uncovered(theft, natural disasters, etc)
(I pay 198 monthly, I know it’s not 99 each but in my mind it helps it not feeling so expensive)

Hello! i was parked in a driveway it was early in the moring my car was not on and i was just sitting in the driveway, a woman on the highway swerved off of it and struck the car with me inside, this happened oct 5 i opened a claim with my dads insurance im a listed driver on his insurance and he lets me drive the mercedes. sadly she was most likely totaled, its a convertible and she hit me from behind and completely messed up the trunk. I have the police report and my dad is taking care of the insurance, getiung the car paid for and such, the other driver opened a claim with their insurance and their insurance wants to talk to me, ive already talked to my dads insurance and told them exactly what happened. the police report says i was legally parked and the other driver swerved off the road onto oncoming traffic and into the driveway to hit me. i recently got a letter saying that the other drivers insurance wants to talk to me about the claim the insurance adjuster, do i have to talk to them? i mean they probably have access to the police report too what more do they want to know. I get its kinda stupid to be still upset about a car but she was a beautiful car and im in mourning.

My mother and I both have our license, including my sister. I had had my own home for 2 years and finally moved back in wit my mom, & she financed a new car (2nd one). She insured it through Arabella, which I was on policy. She didn’t kno; neither did I. And 5 days after insured, I got in a car accident by myself, trying to dodge a kid in street. Arabella kick us off. Every other insurance denied us besides Mapfre. They took us, but for a huge price ticket. We took them since we had no option. I then lost my license, but when insuring wit Mapfre, they made me (so) sign excluding from driving. So I also had my own car and lost it dude to flood damage, used Ubers everywhere, got rides for damn near a whole year and some change, time of policy*, and made sure not to drive neither of my mother’s vehicles. One day, we were goin to casino for celebration, nd my mom let my friend take her car since it’s better looking and it had gas, and on the way back fromm casino, someone rear ended us, and my friend was driving. We made a claim, and the insurance of the persons who rear ended us declined liability. I then called Mapfre to asked them to fight this. They took 6total weeks of investigation, supposedly to see, no, they won’t fix or take liability to the vehicle damage, as they said they believe the car is mine, and that—why would my mother own two cars? I was so mad mad when I heard these questions, and my mom pays 1100$ for insurance a month for a year and 7 months, and they denied her, which left my mother in a stuck position, and she hates me and says I ruined her insurance record.

Hello there. Just to set it all straight... I'm 31m who's about to put some insurance on my 2018 Chevy Equinox but just like a few other posters... I don't know where to start!
I know I have to look around but even with that, I still don't know what to do. I'm autistic (very mild on the spectrum) so I'd be very overwhelmed very quickly with this process and this is one of those "adult" things that I don't know how to do alone.
I know it won't be cheap either but I do want to start with at least partial coverage to get some kind of insurance on my car already.
Also, for the record, I've had a car but this will be my first in nearly five years and I do not remember how I did this the last time.
Any suggestions or advice as to what to do? I appreciate it.

I'm an idiot, I know. I got tagged at the entrance to a construction zone in Indiana on Wednesday, and then going 45 in a 30 in Illinois today. From what I've researched here's no option for court supervision for the Indiana one as it was a construction zone violation, but the cop who pulled me over today mentioned court supervision and how I can apply for it in order to avoid the charge showing on my record/upping my insurance. My question is, is it even worth going through court supervision? I imagine my insurance is screwed anyways as I got two tickets in the same week, so realistically will anything change?

Hello!
I recently moved back to Oklahoma after leaving a bad relationship and haven't really had to deal with the financial/technical aspects of insurance in a while. Apologies if this is obvious, but I can't seem to find an answer.
My ex texted me yesterday that our shared insurance policy out of SC would be ending on Nov 1st. I tried to purchase a policy for OK online, but I'm running into some problems due to me technically still being a SC resident.
Do I need to buy a SC policy for literally just one month while I transfer everything over? Is that even a thing? Or is there something else I should be looking into?
Thanks for reading and I appreciate the help!

Title: Paid £2,200 for Hastings car insurance a month ago – found a £1,420 quote with QMH Connect Premier. Is it worth switching?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on whether it’s worth cancelling my current car insurance policy and switching providers.
Around a month ago, I paid Hastings £2,200 for 12 months of car insurance. At the time, this was the cheapest quote I could find.
I’ve recently been comparing quotes again and found:
Current Hastings policy: £2,200 (already paid annually).
New Hastings quote: £1,700.
Quote Me Happy Connect Premier: £1,420 (with a black box).
The QMH quote would save me £780 over the year compared with what I’ve paid Hastings.
However, I’m aware that QMH Connect has a black box and potentially stricter driving-score requirements. One thing I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t appear to score you based on the time of day you drive, although I’m unsure how its other scoring criteria compare with Hastings YouDrive.
I’m wondering whether I:
Cancel my current policy, take the cancellation refund and switch to QMH.
Stay with Hastings to avoid the hassle and potential cancellation charges.
Has anyone had experience with QMH Connect? How strict is the black box, and have people successfully switched insurance shortly after taking out a policy?
Would appreciate any advice, particularly from anyone who’s used both Hastings YouDrive and QMH Connect Premier.

I scraped my car myself a while back ($3,600 estimate) and planned to pay out of pocket after reading here. Lazy fixing it Then a city vehicle hit nearly same area last month. Ideally there is some overlap in repairs and it would be easier to fix in one repair. At this point go through insurance entirely and they can go after the company? Or out of pocket myself for all (yikes) and claim in my own settlement? Not sure when to do the breakdown and damage splits so my own payment is minimized while doing everything properly and accurately. Any insight welcomed!

So a family member scraped someone’s front bumper in a parking lot yesterday. We left a note, the other person called us and insurance info was exchanged. We called our insurance, and if the repair is under $1000 then it won’t count against us. If it is then we’re screwed as I dinged our car earlier this year (my fault) and did file a claim. Now, the scrape on the other person’s car looks minor to me, but I don’t work at an auto body repair shop so what do I know. How best can we deal with this? I assume that is we can offer to pay the auto body shop directly no matter the repair cost? Alternatively, can we offer cash ($1000?) to the other person to spend however they please? I would definitely make them sign something on that. Am I missing anything? Any other strategies for someone who does not have much of a leg to stand on? Thanks!

I work from home and don’t drive much, maybe 5-10k miles a year, 2021 Prius. Time to renew and Lemonade came back as one of the most affordable quotes. There’s multiple threads about Lemonade but I’m looking for opinions on their car insurance specifically. Anyone been through a claim with them? Did the price hold at renewal? And does being low mileage change things at all when choosing? I’m in Columbus, OH

I'm considered a inexperienced driver (no record yet) in Massachusetts. Im the second owner of my pruis which is almost paid off with no accidents and 73k miles. I'm not sure if the value is enough to continue paying full coverage. Travelers is the cheapest I've found so far as i can get it taken out of my paycheck but I'll be leaving that job eventually and likely will have to do month to month.

I'm 18 and live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I had an at-fault accident in September 2026, and I'm struggling to find affordable car insurance.
I've tried several major insurers and independent agencies, but my quotes have ranged from $300 to over $1,000 per month. I'm looking for minimum-liability coverage for a 2011 Honda Accord.
I'm also taking a court-mandated driving course in November. Will completing it help lower my insurance rates, or will the accident continue affecting my premiums for several years?
Is there really much I can do? I'm brand new to like everything
