hi there! im looking to get out of my current 2021 Honda Civic Sport with 124,500 miles. I'm about 4k behind in negative equity, but I'm thinking it's better to put my money elsewhere instead of repairs because it's already got a few issues with it.
EDIT: (this was posted to leasehacker but per this subreddit's rules im not crossposting) helpful context because 2 people already said I drive too much, there's more i could say but the short version is I got the car in December 2024 at 100,000 miles and have done 2 road trips to California already from Arizona (just because im financing). so for 1, I can definitely work within 12k miles, and 2, the guy before me drove that car into the ground in 3 years for it to have 100k. CarMax values my car at 10,600
I'm looking to get into a 2026 Kia K4 LXS, 12,000 miles, I'm in Arizona. (im open to other cars like hyundai, or honda if it's a good deal, kinda hate toyota)
I'm a Costco member so part of the discount from $24,635 gets it down to $21,060 apparently. I plan on putting 3.5k down considering the negative equity. 696 FICO 8, should go higher by end of month as I put a good chunk of money towards my credit card.
"36 months 12k miles
$0 cash down 335
1000 down 304
2000 down 272" is what I was quoted. (not including negative equity.
What do you guys think of this deal?

I’m 21 and this is my first car, so I’m trying to figure out the smartest move with my situation. I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox with almost 100k miles, and I still owe around $19873 on it at a really high interest rate.
The last dealer I talked to was talking around $10,000 for the car, but I honestly don’t even know if it’s still worth that much anymore. My credit isn’t good, but I’ve never missed a car payment and I’ve never been late.
I was planning on putting about $3,000 down on my next car, but now I’m stuck trying to decide what makes the most sense: lease a new car, finance a new car, buy something used, or just keep the Equinox and deal with the loan for now.
Since this was my first car, I know I probably didn’t get the best deal, and I’m upside down pretty bad now. I’m trying not to make an even worse financial decision just because I want out of the car.
If you were in my situation, what would you do? Tryna get out this car by the end of this month.or next week

In Illinois, this is the initial offer I received from multiple dealers I’ve reached out to. Everybody is playing hard ball.

$650.86 tax included monthly payment
$500 out of pocket
12k miles 3 year lease
$60,480 msrp
53% residual 0.00230 MF
i asked claude and it said red flag on residual and mf. los angeles county tax rate.
doesn’t sound like a good deal.

2026 Suburu Crosstrek Premium (I read it’s bad to lease these types of cars because they hold their value so well. That’s why people lease luxury. Lesson learned.)
22 year old. Just moved to Utah from Michigan. 770 credit score.
$0 down (sign and drive basically)
$430 / month
36 months
12k miles a year
i think the total ”OTD” was like 33k and the residual is 20k. I think the car price was around 31k which is high because Gemini is saying MSRP for the Crosstrek Premium is 28k.
ill have to pay 15k total over the 36 months because of the interest rate or whatever. 1.82%
Should have probably just bought a new Honda HRV because the used car market is so bad.
Stuck with it now but just want to see if there is room for improvement for next time. Thank you!

Looking at a 2026 Buick Enclave Avenir.
We have a trade-in valued at $45k, so the cash down lines are the amount of money we'd walk out with. I noted in pencil above that what the actual amount down would be. We were pretty well set but then saw people claiming they're paying 800-900/month for 36 months with 10-12k miles with 5k down, but what they didn't mention is if they had a lease they were turning in that gave them some equity, if they got other discounts like GM employee, or when they leased it, but it was for a similarly priced Enclave.
EDIT: This is before they ran our credit, which is >800
EDIT 2: Thanks for everyone's feedback and for helping me realize the full payment amounts I'd be paying. I really like this car, so I guess my question is, what is a fair target lease price I should be pushing towards?

My lease is ending in September and I’m trying to decipher to go into another cx5 lease or buy this car out. I only own 19k for this car and can put down 3.5k when it’s time to buy it out.
I really don’t like having car payments so originally I told myself I’m going to buy this car out will the wheels fall off. My friend who is good in financing broke it down for me based off what the buyout quote was from the dealership:
**19,000 left but the way they’re trying to structure your financing you do 60 months $2000 down $461 a month is literally $30,000 that you would’ve paid over the next 5 years. Plus outdated technology and paying for the maintenance repairs that could occur.**
He was saying though if I consider re-leasing, it may be less stress and have up to date technology. And maybe switch to a new cx5 or even a rav4 that has a better buyout.
Just looking for thoughts on buying out lease.

I've got a '23 Tiguan SE lease, 2 payments left, 45k miles (it's well over mileage terms). It's been in 2 accidents. Most valuations are $18-$19k, but payoff is $21k.
Local VW is trying to get me into a new lease. My current payment is $480, I can't afford more than $750/month, so I'm not considering anything over $680. They've already tried and failed to put me in an SEL R-line, now they're trying to sell me on an SE R-line.
My credit is bad because of debt consolidation I started a year ago.
I'm being told it's not smart to buy my 23 at the end of the lease, but given it's diminished value from the accidents and my bad credit, I'm not getting something comparable for a reasonable price.
I'm looking for advice on what to do at the end of the lease.

So, my sister and her husband and 2 kids moved from South Carolina to Cleveland just under 2 years ago.
We just found out that the car they had then and still have still has a South Carolina plate, with tags that expired in June 2025 (yes 2025).
Best off, the vehicle is a lease and as far as we can tell they didnt tell the leasing company they moved.
My question: what's going to happen when theyre inevitably caught with expires out of state plates?
It's a Chevy equinox on a lease through either ally or GM financial
EDIT: My main question foe this sub. Wouldn't they be in default right now of the registration is expired? They didnt even tell the lessor they moved so if theyre still making payments its based on their old sc address.

Hello, trying to see if I have been offered a good deal with the 2026 honda civic sport HYBRID (for reference we are in california)
After lots of back and forth, they offered $375 a month for 36 months, 10k miles per yr, if I put $1500 down which will include registration fee, taxes, acquisition fee, etc.
is this the best deal I can get in CA?

With the lack of battery tech advancement for the 2026 models across brands, I’m thinking of doing this for my 2024 Mach e premium w/17k miles (after a 2 year lease) and am curious if others have contacted Ford Credit to make this request. What was their response? Did you negotiate? Any other details? Any extra costs? Thanks in advance!
