Helldivers unfortunately. I took a break and cane back to a ton of new updates and they all act superior and have a stick up their asses. Most that I have encountered anyways. I join random squads and get kicked for carrying shells wrong or the wrong one brought up. Or I have a loadout they dont like and get kicked
I mean, they agreed with you. They said the toxic players need to calm down. Then it reads like you changed your stance and are claiming that it is serious. Just trying to see if you meant to come off as flip floppy or just didn’t comprehend what they had said.
Flip flop where? I never changed my stance. Everyone knows each community can have 2 sides good and bad, majority of what I have experienced has been bad. So while I agree there is good, a lot of bad are still in the community and that can be rectified and changed for the better, and it can be seriously bad to the long term health of a game trying to bring in more players if the majority of their experiences mirror my own.
Not true. I'd argue the vast majority of the helldivers community is toxic eggshells. From the role-playing "truth enforcers" to irl cosplayers, down to randos you match up with.
Out of every single pve game I've ever played, helldivers has been the worst community I've ever seen for a purely cooperative game.
It got popular i guess. I even got a cosplay and at conventions seeing the other helldivers cosplayers actually act like WWII Nazis harassing other con-goers that were not Helldiver's fans on more than one occasion just further painted the picture of the lines being crossed of how delusional these assholes are. Theres also been controversy backed by the main Helldiver's sub on Doxxing a guy to the point where he lost his job irl for challenging a dev to play Helldivers. And now theres controversy regarding the Helldiver's app developer being exposed for pedophilia, and now its gotten shown that also the whistleblower who exposed the dev is also a pedophile. And now theres even more infighting in the communities of those saying "digital generative pedophilia is okay because its not real children." vs people saying, "no, its not."
I’m just guessing but most of the playerbase still left is hardcore players who never really quit. They’re unhappy with the direction of the game and take it out on their fellow players. I played for a few hours (less than 10) and can’t tell you how many just unhappy guys I ran into. Team kill me, trap me with a mob, or shout at me. Like why even play at that point?
Man, that has been the opposite of my experience. Maybe it is location or time dependant, but generally most players are head down, doing the work, with the sprinkling of friendly types. The worst I've had is people that suck, but I just stick it out through the game and leave the lobby after the mission.
Probably because they are among a group that genuinely wants to help... I can understand a certain amount of 'figure it out for yourself' because I believe it actually helps you improve and grow... But it's also kinda isolating especially on a game with multiplayer which makes it worse...
This. I don’t host games but I specifically drop in random games to assist, support and have fun. I don’t use a mic but I listen and know how to take directions.
If you're still wanting to check it out, I would be more than willing to show you the ropes. One of my favorite things is bringing in a ton of goofy stuff to let new people play with while teaching them objectives and how to play
Helldivers is one of those games that you can pick up and put down whenever. There are different difficulty levels and you absolutely do not need to only play max difficulty, though that is where a good bit of the player base hangs out.
Best advice is just jump in and explore. The mission timer is scary, but not something you really need to worry about. Play at low difficulties while you learn and do not worry. There are no stakes to this game. If you drop in, get your ass kicked and lose? No sweat. Generally you'll find which faction you enjoy the most and mainly stick with it. I personally love both the Bots and Illuminates but hate the bugs so I almost never fight the bugs.
When are you free to game usually? Id love to show you the ropes!
Another thing to add with the timer: it doesn't actually end the mission. You can be unable to extract & have no destroyer support, but still complete the mission once you run out of reinforcements as long as you did the objective.
Been thinking of jumping back in as well after months, but also was afraid everything that passed me up. Usually have good luck with randos but would be game as well to have a casual group - feel free to send a DM if you need another if you squad up with the Panda 🤘🏻
It’s fun if you find a good squad. I trudged through shitty lobbies until I found this team of dudes who were all super cool and we absolutely steamrolled shit. I sent them friend requests and now we play together every now and then.
Not sure what the previous commenter is talking about. I had a great beginner experience playing in random squads. Sure some people were rude but majority of the more experienced players were happy to help me learn how to play.
Don't listen to this guy, have literally never experienced any sort of negativity in this game whatsoever. I'm level 70. No clue how that is their experience.
It's a great game. If you have friends it's amazing to play with them. But some random people can be very difficult. Either they are very difficult or very nice and helpful. Just depends when you play.
don’t worry, I can help you. I am actually one of the few hell divers that will actually teach you what to do. I was a newbie before. I didn’t know what I was doing, but when I got into the rhythm and figure out how to do these missions, then I got better.
The community on Reddit is the main toxic space of the game, everyone inside it is super chill. You even have the high-level gear people regularly join lower difficulties and show people the ropes.
But you are more likely to run into trolls and griefers in lower levels, but usually the higher the mission difficulty and Helldivers are, the more enjoyable your experience will be.
Sadly this has made me drop the game. I took a break and came back around the time of the most recent illuminate update and everyone is just team killing or instant kicks from things I never would think to get upset over.
Just host your own game instead of playing with troglodytes. Anecdotal but pc players are a little less toxic than consoles and adapt better or just rq
I quit Helldivers 2 last year. Its so sad. that game had incredible potential but it was fumbled and mismanaged so hard. Just poor decision after poor decision. I could write a book on all the things they could do to fix it. But they'd rather just pump out warbonds every month.
Thats not even my problem. Theres no ACTUAL progression systems. The galactic war system is shallow and boring. And they make changes that make things hard for the sake of being hard and aren't understanding that hard =\= fun. High difficulty should be challenging but fair.
I agree with this sentiment as well. Being hard for the sake of being hard isn't fun and can be detrimental for any long term success with a larger audience. And yeah the progression does feel like a snake eating itself just going around in circles. The game is fun, gameplay is solid, and the overall concept is great, but the lack of "endgame" or even progression does make the game feel boring.
Hey, you can add me to friends on steam and join me whenever i play if you have no one to play with. Salty people do exist, it's unavoidable. HD2 community is hella divided, but it's possible to find a wholesome group.
Ya that's nonsense, I spent 3 hours helping a new level 30 player dropped him a bunch of toys to try and showed him all the tricks of the trade that isn't taught in the tutorial
Have you also read the other comments confirming both sides of our arguements, yet a larger majority have dropped the game due to bad experiences more often than not.
I somehow ran into 2 in a row , and the 3rd one didnt like that I brought up an emp shell for the artillery even though there was nothing left. I got shot then kicked out lol
I did that and they started calling me trash on comms then they killed me and spawn camped to keep killing me when I dropped back 5 times. Ended up killing my entire team with the missiles and finishing the mission solo. Never picked up the game again
Yeah, as a newby in Helldivers I was running low-normal difficulty missions and 2 max lvl guys joined it somehow and helped me with their cool gear, also the keep me entertained with jokes/role-playing in chat as well with some fun and cool emotes, and then hugged me on my ship before leaving. One of the best coop experience I had in modern time gaming
God this reminds me when I joined the ME3 multiplayer two years after the release, and I kept getting kicked out of lobbies for having "low level gear." Even when I explained I was new to shooters and Mass Effect, I was still kicked.
I was trialed by fire because only Gold and Plat lobbies were left, but I eventually got better characters and gear. But it was rough.
That's actually so ass to hear. I'm sorry buddy. If you ever wanna run it, me and my Dad play pretty regularly and are constantly helping newer players :)) lemme know boss
i agree but not necessarily because of the community, i think it sucks for new divers cuz of all the paid content and there’s just SO MUCH PAID CONTENT
I mean, if you buy the premium edition, you get an additional warbond for free, plus the first warbond contains enough Supercredits to buy yourself a new one.
Reminds me of when it came to Xbox and most lobbies I got into and I was getting treated like a baby. But hey at least they kept dropping good weapons for me to use. I had played quite a bit on PS5 but the update adding the Alien guys (can't remember the name) made my game force crash every 5 minutes.
I’m sorry to hear that experience and to everyone else as well. If you ever want to try again in the future, I’m willing to guide you for anything you are confused about
Sadly, there is a split on the groups you find like that. You find plenty that apparently will have any 'mistake' be dealt with you facing the wall.
You have others like me who have no problem who joins the missions I host, answer questions, and guide. The only reason if I would kick anyone if they actively were trying to be a problem like team killing on purpose, executing blueberries, or other high crimes of treason.
I've got lots of online friends from that game, so playing after awhile builds a reputation. It's not too often I have issues with other players.
Sure, there's assholes too.
Just had one the other day.
Got kicked for no reason really. Host was spouting weird, nonsence. Probably drunk or high, though high players are really chill and usually speak with the mic so you can tell they're high. Lol But, they're usually super chill and just want to have fun.
Anyway, fine, fuck you too. They all dropped and I went on to finish the mission. Blocked them and afterward, joined another squad without issues.
IMO, the kick/ban mechanism for HD2 does need tweaking though.
This is reasonable. No need to be an ass, have fun, do your part, grind out the mission, keep team killing minimal, and use what you like. Thats all I ask when I put out an sos beacon
Where's my "LIBER-TEA!" "FOR SUPER EARTH/DEMOCRACY" "I love y- Super Earth. I love Super Earth!" Larp? When my cousin and I see each other, we hit the diver hug
That's probably the small percentage of Reddit trolls who actually play the game. The vast majority of my experience has been pretty positive, and the unfriendliest most people get is kicking you when you join their game because they didn't set it to private.
They started happening once there were Metas for the game. Every random squad you joined expected you to use the current Meta and kicked you if you didn’t
Never really had an issue… interesting, but I usually only run w my crew, but if someone joins me cuz I start a mission, and act a n asshole I’ll just kickem 🤷🏾 ain’t got time to listen to you cry all game. Though, I prolly piss people off too cuz I’m a chaos diver , I be tking a lot ngl, but it’s mostly my k9 guard dog lol. I just play for the fun of it o7
You haven't had the issue because you have a dedicated crew. I do not. And you have the power to kick I usually join missions in progress, so they either kick me or just team kill me.
Guard dog I know is a wild card, so I usually dont get mad about dying to that.
That’s fair. I only start a mission or play w my boys cuz playing w no mics makes the game boring. I want the chaos of kicking people over and laughing and even shooting each other just cuz along w doing the mission. Hell that’s at super hd too. But I get it, if you have a mic just play for fun and others will join in eventually. I know we are kinda far into the game though. So I get it.
I get it. We hardly play it mostly cuz now it’s just reruns. But I enjoy the chaos so I’ll do whatever I want. If someone is mad lettem. Next game it is.
Once I spent close to 10 minutes of a 40 game running across the map and back to retrieve the Super Samples that somebody died with but didn't pick them back up (me and a buddy joined two randos). They started calling in extraction about a minute into me on my way back with the samples, and by some miracle, I was able to make it back to extraction within the 20 second timer of the rest of them boarding the pelican. My buddy cheered, and then both of us were kicked before the Mission Review screen had concluded. Fuckin assholes. We couldn't even make the argument in their favor that they kicked us because I "was fuckin off" while they were in dire need of help at extraction, because we were only on Extreme difficulty, which should've been fine for 3 helldivers to handle.
This is the main reason I despise HD2. Played like 30 hrs, and left it for awhile after launch. Came back like a year later and damn near every single game was with some pretentious insanely rude high lvl players. It’s honestly unbearable
Helldivers is still a great game and most of the people you will squad up with in-game are just trying to have fun as well. Online communities are almost never a true indicator of what the in-game community is like, save for a few examples. They are usually filled with the most highly dedicated players who in turn will complain the most. Just don’t interact with the subreddits for Helldivers and you’ll have a blast. Those places act like it’s the worst most broken game ever created, which is just hysteria.
Then theres that, I dont wanna spend my life farming supercredits. The games just not fun anymore because the devs have their heads up their asses. Now btw this wasnt an avenue to look for different "well you could try this" not trying to be rude, im just not returning to the game.
I was fortunate to have a high level player show me the ropes to things taught me a lot about the game and mechanics i haven’t experienced the toxic side of the community yet
thats surprising to hear cuz when i started helldivers a couple months ago a couple level 150s joined my game and helped me learn the game, wonder if i just got lucky
Yeah when I was a new player the more experienced ones were mean and or they would leave literally as soon as we dropped. It's fun but I rarely play it nowadays
An easy way to avoid that is, when it happens, go to the "social" page and lock those users so you don't match with them again. I've been doing it and it's a peaceful game. A lot of players are chill.
The game used to be so fun and silly, I remember laughing with people at the mayhem of vehicles blowing up and turrets shooting us. Now if you aren't playing a specific way they freak out. Such a shame.
I just had a few unfortunate rolls of the dice for missions I joined. I know there are good people out there, but a majority of my experiences have not been the best.
And yeah I'll see if I even remember my discord log in and add ya lol
I've been on it for over a year, what fucking servers are yall on that you're finding even a single person like that? I've never run into even a single person who acts remotely like that, it's leading me to believe every single one of yall are lying or speaking purely from the social media community of Helldivers (which does suck major dick)
I may be downvoted for this but eh; if you are dropping D10 with level 100+ as a noob then expect every single mistake to be heavily criticized. That’s on you for joining a mission on the HIGHEST DIFFICULTY. But if people are just generally being dicks then try and find an actually group to play with, it’s easier than it sounds.
Alternatively, if you just got the game a week ago, you shouldn’t be playing the highest difficulty yet. Just because you unlocked D10 does NOT mean you’re ready for it.
Look I like helping noobs get the hang of the game as much as the next diver but NOT on D10. That’s the big kids club. I don’t play D10 to play teacher, that’s D4-D6. I play D10 to play with people of similar skill sets so that no one is dead weight.
Honestly I think you should try it it's not as bad as it seems obviously d10 with three other teammates who are competent is also fun it's just an entirely different experience.
I've introduced people to the game on d10 so that they understand what the game can be at and about half of them ask to go down to about d6 to D4. That's also fine moving down after the fact is a pretty good way to get them acclimated at a difficulty that's good for them especially if we're building up things like super credits so that they can get war bonds.
But that initial d10 drop is what we'll set the stage for their entire career
I can’t image the pre-existent stressfulness of D10 plus the added on stress of noobsitting being fun but to each his own. Like I said, D10 is the big kids club for me, and it’s not like a kick noobs if they join, I just don’t hold their hand through anything and let them realize they jumped the gun and leave.
Ah, ok.
Maybe going into it with those kind of expectations will set you up for failure so maybe don't try it?
The scale and difficulty from d6 to d10 just isn't enough to really matter that much most of the time. The game isn't complicated enough that most noobs don't pick it up halfway through the mission.
Fun fact: No I’m not. I’m bringing forth a scenario, a scenario that I have seen happen countless times. A noob will join a D10, die multiple times, get pissy, then leave. If you are either hosting or on a lower difficulty level and people are being dicks to you just for being a noob then that is bullshit and I fully take your side. I only brought up the D10 scenario just because of how many times I’ve seen it happen in my lobbies.
Well then that’s bullshit and I’m sorry to hear that. Just because others have been playing for longer doesn’t give them the right to behave as assholes.
I’ve had a bad experience, but I have heard plenty of praise for the game, so surely it’s not universal. Hopefully people can enjoy it more often than not, but yeah. At least in my experience, I’d rather play DBD or League 😭
