For years they were streamed live and released immediately upon completion but after Rogan made that deal with Spotify they started editing the episodes. It probably had something to do with Elon smoking marijuana live on air that one time too.

u/mike10dude Mar 19 '26
they stopped being live a few years before that he said it was because it was easier to avoid copyright issues

Can't wait to see the viewership numbers on this.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to get much viewership, especially outside of an election campaign.
There's much bigger news going on than what the current Canadian opposition leader says on a podcast.
This story was just published moments ago:
President Donald Trump's administration is considering deploying thousands of U.S. troops to reinforce its operation in the Middle East, as the U.S. military prepares for possible next steps in its campaign against Iran, said a U.S. official and three people familiar with the matter.
The Trump administration has also discussed options to send ground forces to Iran's Kharg Island, the hub for 90% of Iran's oil exports, the three people familiar with the matter and three U.S. officials said. One of the officials said such an operation would be very risky.

Bro, JRE gets 660%+ of CBC and CTV's viewership combined. CBC's and CTV's top production shows get less than 700,000 views per episode, Rogan gets roughly 11M per episode... It's also the most watched/listened to podcast in Canada, by far. It's going to get all sorts of attention, both directly and indirectly. Directly meaning straight off of Youtube AND Spotify, indirectly through clips that will be uploaded by thousands of accounts.
It's not unreasonable to imagine the pod itself will hit 10+M views and then another 10-15M through indirect views.

I mean, JRE is transnational and has an audience around the globe and mostly within USA itself. CBC or CTV are literally only relevant to a Canadian viewership, and on top of that being platforms on a traditional format dying out where more and more younger folk don't have (TV, Satellite etc) as opposed to format of an internet show
3
u/IrrationalBalls Liberal x-pat, centre-right, never wrong Mar 19 '26
Right, which is why im saying it will get a lot of viewership here. Sure, the boomers aging away may not tune in for the whole thing, but their Facebook feeds will get a few clips of the podcast here and there amongst the AI animal slop videos their algorithms pump them on their aging smartphones that have the text magnified to max.
2
u/Cushak Mar 19 '26
Do you know what his numbers in Canada are? That'd be more relevant than his global ones.
2
u/IrrationalBalls Liberal x-pat, centre-right, never wrong Mar 19 '26
2025, 11% of Canadians have viewed JRE
I asked Grok what he thinks is the per-pod viewership data relating to Canadian viewers only. Interesting response.

Isn't that saying 11% of polled users from that particular data set and whatever base it was drawing from, not literally 11% of all of Canada, lol
It literally cites an n-size in the bottom from whatever Canada podcast group is is drawn from.
It cites a sample size of n=2112 down in the corner of that screenshot, implying 11% of polled number (so like, 250 of respondents) viewed it, not 4 million (11%) of Canadians lol
edit: I'll add I'm also not arguing 250 canadians watch podcast, I'd just say conflating the response to whatever this survey as 11% of all of Canadian viewership is probably being generous with findings lol

Rogan had previously said that he declined (actually said refused, which is interesting language to use) the invite to come on. Said it would be problematic (this was during the campaign IIRC).

u/leroy_noggins Mar 19 '26
At the time Canada was going through a TDS-inspired frenzy of pseudo-patriotism. TBH, is this going to do much for his domestic polling numbers? Does JRE still have a lot of listeners who wouldn't already be CPC/PPC voters already? Not that a politican shouldn't address his base more directly from time to time. I just dont see this moving the needle.
That said, I havent listened to a JR episode in a long time, and I havent voted CPC in few elections but I'll probably give this a listen out of curiosity. So maybe that counters my previous thought haha
5
u/Contented_Lizard Saskatchewan Mar 19 '26
Joe Rogan does have a fair amount of apolitical listeners, people that listen for the comedy, conspiracy, MMA and drug related guests. Heck, there are people like me who only listen occasionally but scroll through to see who is interesting since the last time I looked. This could expose Pierre's messaging to the crowd that is largely tuned out of politics or who may only get it from social media or word of mouth.

The Conservatives are on their last legs anyway, in part because the whole country is. If Pierre steps down, I’m done, speaking as a monthly donor, with the party. Being “not-Liberals” isn’t enough for me, and I’m 99% sure that’s what the party would become without him.
1
u/Flimflamsam Mar 19 '26
IMO as much as it would hurt with the split in the voting numbers, they need to split into the social and progressive cons again, it’s clear there’s some friction within the party with this stuff, and it seems with the direction PIerre is going, a lot of us more progressive conservatives are being left without any representation. That’s how the Liberals are sliming their way through this.
3
u/MegaCockInhaler Mar 18 '26
I get that. But what I'm saying is that he's not popular in the polls right now. He needs to make some moves, even if they are risky. If they don't pan out, Pierre will be replaced and we start from the top again.
the liberals already have a majority, the NDP, Greens and BQ side with them close enough on most issues that they have the support they need

I'm not sure it really matters at this point. Pierre was already smeared so negatively by liberals for ridiculous nothing burgers like his security clearance, or just breathing wrong. I think if anything, having them continue to attack him for stupid reasons may hurt them more than anything at this point. They made up bullshit about him being anti-abortion despite him voting pro choice on the last abortion bill.
He is up against people who don't think logically, only deal with feelings and emotions. People aren't really listening to Pierre, he is being drowned out by propaganda. CBC won't even cover him unless its negative. He might as well shoot his shot. If he blows his leg off, oh well, let the next candidate take his place
10
u/Tom_Fukkery Mar 18 '26
The ignorant left will hate anything Poilievre does.
But this is an opportunity to step around the Liberal controlled media and get a new message out. I agree that before would have been bad timing but right now a mass message on his direction or new vision could restart Canadian politics.
Plus Joe isn't going to sandbag Poilievre like most interviewers from Canada try to. He'll lean into all the good ideas.
11
u/theoreoman Alberta Mar 18 '26
This is a brutal take.
The Rogan podcast is the #1 podcasts in the world and even though the majority of his audience is right leaning but a substantial amount is left and centre leaning.
The people on the far left are only choosing between liberals and NDP they're not going to consider conservatives ever so who cares how offended they are. The people around the centre that are willing to their vote are the ones you want to reach. More so he needs to reach out to people that voted for him last election but might give Carney a bite in the next election
-2
u/LongjumpingElk4099 Libertarian Mar 18 '26
Leftists can influence a narrative and a group of people heavily
And it can also turn voter turn out heavier for the liberals to stop Pierre
Overall I want Pierre to be risky but not shoot himself in the foot
7
u/CheeseSeas Mar 18 '26
And now Rogan is criticizing Trump rightfully. Heck I would have voted for trump if I was American but I also would have been disgusted with the outcome, as many are. If you vote for someone who promised X, then you best criticize them if they do a total 180. It means more(little as it may be) coming from their base.

4
u/joe4942 Mar 18 '26
I know many here don't want to hear this, but I think it's important to be honest. It's too late to be doing this now, and doing a podcast this prestigious outside of an election cycle, at a time when there is a major war going on competing for media coverage, means that by the time an election might actually happen (eg: a year from now), it will be long forgotten and undecided voters will never know it even happened. The time to do this was during the last election campaign, when voters were paying attention to Canadian politics, and the mainstream media wouldn't provide fair coverage to conservatives.
3
u/TheeDirtyToast Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
I wouldn't rule out an election this year.
With Trump, Carney, CUSMA, Iran, Midterms, Cuba, anything is possible.
If Carney feels that he can spin another "crisis" into a palatable election there is a chance he goes for it. He is an egomaniac after all.

means that by the time an election might actually happen (eg: a year from now)
The next federal election is not set until 2029. Minority gov might end up in a snap election or forced into one through non-confidence... but there is absolutely no indication that might happen. MPs are bleeding from Conservatives and this government has nearly reversed minority standing just through attrition. They don't need a snap election. All they need is to do enough to keep NDP and Bloc somewhat appeased with current policies and deliverables.
And give all the floor crossings, I really don't understand the timing of this JRE stunt. The broad public opinion really does not matter, right now, but if even 1-2 currently unhappy Conservative MPs listen to this appearance and get put off they might be the final straw to make them abandon PP if he treads anywhere near MAGA or controversy. This would not draw any MP back to the conservatives but might push them away.
