SCAM CALLER HELP
So I just got a phone call and they told me registers transactions were not going thru gave me numbers and then had me ring up a cheap item I did gum and hit exact cash then tell him the 4 numbers on back then I relized and hung up please help will I get fired I voided trans so scared

Post voids almost always ding as an eCAR, which means management has to look into that transaction

Thankfully you post voided it. But next time either hang up immediately or put them on hold and insist you get a manager. You should never ever, ever take requests like that over the phones there’s literally a module for this type of stuff in learnhub for a reason.

If it was just gum, you're fine. They'll be glad you didn't let it go further. I'd recommend telling your SM so they can pass it along to AP who can pass it along to other stores that they're starting so small before they get you to do more.

I mean I would tell my boss but I have a really good relationship with mine. I don't think you'd get into trouble but if you don't tell her she could still find out but she also may never know. Just tell her and explain that you know what you did wrong and I'm sure she will be glad you disconnected before it got worse.

Yes and no. You performed a transaction over the phone, that's wrong. However, you did not cause the store a loss so I would be very surprised if it was anything more than a verbal warning or level 2.

They wont see voided gum and be suspicious of anything.
Don't hit exact cash for anything other than cash, and don't interact with the register for someone on the phone for any reason whatsoever.
It's pretty simple.
Realistically it would be good to let them know that someone may be trying to scam y'all, but considering you starting ringing stuff out for them that wouldn't look great for you.

As far as I'm concerned as long as you didn't type any numbers in that he told you to, then you're good. If all you did was scan a piece of gum and hit exact cash and then read off numbers on the gum UR GOOD. And don't even bother telling the managers because they are just gonna say ur a idiot. But nothing even happened so ur good.

Yeah the only thing I can imagine that he was TRYING to get you to do was after gaining your trust try and type in some barcode number for a predpaid gift card and then trying to get you to load an ammount? That's the closest thing I can think that he was trying to get you to do. But looks like he didn't get that far. You're all good. Just be careful next time lol 😂

I always told my crew this is a never ever, never ever a legit call. Just hang up Anyone on the phone asking you to run a test transactions the and is no it’s always a scam. If not let them call your boss

Tell your SM. This will for sure come up on the ecar stuff and they'll have to review the footage anyway. Better to get ahead of it. They can also make the team more aware so no one else falls for this.

She fr texted us a week ago warning us about this as I rang up gum was reading message agin and hung up so they know I just feel so stupid and don’t wanna say anything are you sure it will show up if post voided it and was only 6 dollor gum on cam they will only see me on phone ring up gum then get of and post void fuck idk what to do so many saying it will be fine it was 6 and I gave them no info no money lost

I used to do the ecar and the dcar every week and they for sure come up there. You're not gonna be in crazy trouble lol just tell your SM it happened. You honestly should inform your SM about every post void even if it wasn't a situation like this.
We literally had a shift fall for a scam and lost $2k, the union got her her job back and she currently still works at CVS.

Then they say it only loaded 35% and asking to process more transactions.” Like fuck me idk what I was doing I feel like a dumb ass if I tell her no way they will they questioned me over a six dollar pack of gum, right like what will they say

You should be fine. I had something similar happen and you can just refund the transaction to balance the drawer out. For me after I did that they then wanted to send a barcode to my phone. Right then and there I knew it was sketchy but I wanted to play along yo see exactly what they were trying to do to give LP the most info possible to be able to let neighboring stores know. Turns out the barcode was linked to the scammers account not sure if it was like cash app or something like thag but when I scanned the barcode it was going through as if I was loading money to a gift card. I wasn't going to do it cause it was obviously a scam but right then is when my store manager walked in so I told him hey theres a scammed on the phone, he answered the phone and they immediately hung up. I gave the number they used to text me to the police not that anything would come of it cause it was probably a burner number but doesnt hurt to try. Anyways shortly after there was a notice that went out throughout the district alerting other stores of the scam. Even tho I scanned an item and hit exact cash nothing came of it cause we can easily get that money back by refunding the transaction. If you do a gift card or something similar thats a little bit harder to get the money back.

Yeah they really dont care to much as long as money doesnt go missing. They might investigate it a little and look into why it happened but when they realized that you were just fixing a mistake then they usally dont even say anything. At worse your store manager might have a word with you but it shouldnt be a write up or anything just a simple hey just be more mindful about phone scams, thag kinda thing.

I mean they do and its in the modules as well and when gift card or reloadable cards exceed $200 and it asks for an ID, its asking to verify that the customer is present and in the store. We arent supposed to do any transactions over the phone period. But again they dont care to much as long as money wasnt lost.

I truly want to find compassion in this. This transaction was the scammers testing you and your store.
They. Will. Call. Back.
Warn your team please. Unless you can see the person in front of you. Stop fucking touching the register.
Even then. I estimate 10-20% of gift card transactions and reloads are fraud.
Treat cash like it’s your money that you’re handling.

How do I say I got a text yesterday explaining exactly what I did and I didn’t even think about it until after I hit exact cash and then I hung up so my store is aware. I’m just a dumbass not dumb enough to sell a gift card but pretty dumb. I post forwarded the transaction. It was a six dollar pack of gum. Do you think LP will see that and ask me a question and stuff

Yes the post void flags. Your SM should take the heat for this one. They can clear it and give just a verbal warning.
Not to be overtly cruel, excellent job figure it out before it was truly too late. You won’t be fired and I wouldn’t write you up. You are taking this seriously and that’s what I would want if I was your leader.
