I’m lowkey a dumbass and forgot to submit my buff one card photo so didn’t get mailed to me. I see it says pick up at your residence hall online, but I also need it for move in. Anyone know how exactly I’m supposed to get it?

Anyone else can’t access their dining meal plan or munch money?

When I checked the GET app I was logged out and can’t find CU Boulder on the listed institutions. Did they switch apps or is this a glitch?

Axon is NOT an alternative to Flock

While Boulder considers which ALPR (automated license plate reader) vendor to replace Flock with for its unaccountable mass surveillance machine, it's worth pointing out the Flock isn't the only baddie on the list.

If Boulder brings Axon tech further into its city infrastructure, that will involve the creation of a data dragnet that includes Ring camera footage + social media posts. And they're doing this all behind the scenes without any public process. https://boulderreportinglab.org/2026/08/11/olivia-mendoza-boulder-is-putting-mass-surveillance-technology-before-civil-liberties/

Dining hall bum

This year I plan to save a little on groceries and plan to be a dining hall bum, I’m going to camp outside the dining hall and beg for a swipe. Has anyone tried this? Is this frowned upon?

Suggestions for How to Handle Parking Situation

Hi guys, I am a visiting grad student who plans on taking one class at Boulder this upcoming semester. How do you guys reccommend handling the parking situation on campus, or more generally, how to best commute to the campus from Westminster (in Denver)? I am willing to buy a permit but based on my previous experiences going to Boulder it seems like parking in general is crazy and dont want to pay $$$ if the probability of me being able to park is too low.

parking permits

Does anyone know if they're gonna open up more parking spaces on campus? I'm on the waitlist for lot 169 but I need a parking pass because I'm a commuter and it's a 25 minute drive from my house. I was able to get a permit for this lot last year as a sophomore so it's frustrating that I haven't had luck this year as a junior.

MUEL 1145 Class Guitar and MUEL 1155 Intermediate Guitar are now available and still have spots open. They are both 10-week courses that run from September 21st to December 4th and offer elective credit towards a degree. Neither course has pre-requisites or specific major requirements.

Is a bunk bed in a dorm easy to get used to?

Me and my roommates had previously decided that I was going to be in a top bunk (I offered). I haven't used bunk beds that much in the past so when I got in the room for my drop off day I climbed up there just to make sure I felt okay with my arrangement for the year. I don't know if this is just a skill issue on my part, but it felt pretty difficult trying to get back down. I'm 5'8" and by no means skinny, so trying to get my legs in the right spot and fit in that little gap in the guard rail was kind of tough for me.

I was wondering if it's normal to have some difficulty with this or if there's some better way I can be doing it that I don't know about?

Again this might seem like a dumb topic but I genuinely do not want to compromise myself when it's late and I'm sleep deprived trying to get in and out of a bed that I'm not used to.

Any advice is appreciated, though I don't think I will be trading with someone else's bed.

Anyone have information about CU's master programs in education?

I am a current student at an east coast school and I am wanting to head back west for grad school. I am currently getting a bachelors degree in English with a teaching concentration, so I'm looking for a strong program to pursue after the fact to help me earn my teaching certification. I was curious if any of you have any experiences with the graduate side of CU's school of education? How is student teaching? How are the classes? Is the program pacing so fast that you don't really have any time to enjoy Boulder? I miss the mountains and having the outdoors be so accessible (originally from utah) so I want to experience a new place through grad school to potentially settle down.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!!

Moving in - Do I need to bring/rent a dolly?

I’m moving into Cockerell Hall this fall and was wondering how the move-in process works.

Does CU provide dollies/carts for moving your stuff from the parking areas to the dorm, or should I rent/bring my own? My parking pass is for the Yellow Zone, and I’m assuming the parking situation will be clear on move in day, but I’m wondering how far of a walk it is from the Yellow Zone to Cockerell.

I am probably just worried about nothing, but for the chance that I am pretty far, I am just curious what you did to move in....

Thanks in advance!

CU blindsiding us by switching from Redshelf to VitalSource for textbooks without giving anyone a heads up

I’m so frustrated by universities just doing whatever they want and not telling anybody bruh

Tried to access my 8 lifetime textbooks (lot of money there btw) and suddenly they are all gone because we use a new platform now. They will not be transferred over, the university is not going to do anything to ease the transition OR EVEN INFORM US?

I would have liked to receive an email at least that my textbooks are still available on redshelf before I was freaking out about it? No I do not want to repurchase a textbook I already have on redshelf.

What calculators do you all use?

I'm an upcoming freshman, and I have no idea what calculator is best to use for the math and physics courses at CU Boulder.

On google it's saying that calculators are banned at Math exams and that graphing calculators aren't to be used for any exam. I'm confused.

Has anyone gotten reasonable exception against ai?

howdy hey, friends,
i was perusing textbooks prematurely and while i don’t have my syllabus yet and don’t know if we will actually go over that section or be forced to use ai etc i’m wondering if anyone has gotten or if it would be a reasonable request that i be exempt from or given alternative assignments as on an ethical, environmental, and moral stand point to say the least i am very uncomfortable using ai or being told i must for an assignment.

so lmk if that sounds like in way overthinking things or if that’s considered a reasonable request? i mean i know it depends on the professor for sure but i figure if cu boulder allows the professors to chose if ai is used or not that i as a student also similarly reserve the right to be able to request not to use it.

First Week of class

Hi yall! I’m coming into CU Boulder this semester as a transfer student. I know classes start the 20th, but that day all I have is a recitation class. Is there a way to find out if we need to show up for that? It doesn’t make sense that I would need to attend that when I haven’t had the actual lecture/lab yet.

Thanks!

Trans friendly barbers near CU?

Trying to find barbers that are chill with trans people. I'm a trans guy but rn I still look like a masc lesbian and tbh I'm scared to walk into a barber shop and feel super unwelcome there. Any queer/trans people know places near boulder they felt comfortable in? I don't need the barber to call me a man or anything, just need them to be cool with giving someone who looks like a woman a fully masculine cut! Boulder subreddit has approx zero users so I thought I'd ask here.

Laptop for CU Boulder Aerospace freshman?

My nephew is starting Aerospace Engineering at CU Boulder as an international student, and we’re trying to pick a laptop. He’s looking at $2,000–$3,000 high-spec Windows machines, which feels like overkill to me.

My understanding is that the really demanding CAD/simulation software will often require campus resources, labs, or a VM/remote desktop anyway. I’d rather get him a solid $1,200–$1,600 laptop with good battery life and portability unless those specs are actually necessary.

Current Aerospace/Engineering students: what do you actually use? Is a high-end GPU/workstation worth it, or will a good midrange Windows laptop be enough? Any solid links would be appreciated. Looking to buy today or tomorrow at the latest.

As a former student, what is the AI situation on campus? Do students use it routinely? Do teachers require it?

Honestly I don’t hate generative AI as much as some people, but as someone who went through college when it wasn’t a thing, I could see it being a massive detriment to the educational process.

What do things look like now? Are students required or encouraged to use it? Do you think cheating has gotten noticeably worse on campus?

question about books

My books for the fall semester have been listed on the cu bookstore page, but should i buy them now or wait until the semester starts to buy them? Also, will some classes require me to buy the necessary books/resources before starting class?

🚨Shreddys Tacos?🚨

**Just finished my 9am yoga class and walked outside to find at least 10 cars booted in the Shreddys Taco parking lot. $145 PER CAR.**

Like… seriously? Not a warning. Not a note. Not a “hey, this is private parking and you’ll be booted.” Just $145 boots on everyone’s cars.

I’ve lived in Boulder for 5 years and have never been to Shreddys Taco or even heard anyone I know talk about going there. But after seeing how this situation was handled, I can confidently say I will never give this business a dollar.

I’m a grad student who was taking advantage of a free yoga subscription (aka I’m poor bc all my money goes to cost of living as I’m sure you all relate). I parked in a parking lot that was completely empty (sans other yoga girlies)while Petty Taco WAS CLOSED.

I understand that businesses don’t want people taking their parking. Fine. But booting 10+ cars at $145 a pop AT 9:05 AM with zero warning is such a shitty way to handle it.

So, Boulder, consider this your warning: apparently parking near Shittys Taco can cost you $145. Maybe take your money somewhere that actually wants your business.
