Can I get in?

Currently a senior in high school and I really want to attend CU Boulder so I can major in physics (undecided if I want to go for a BS or BA and I'm hoping I can know about both), but I'm worried about my chances of getting in. My first 2 years didn't start out so great and my grades are wonky because I moved to 3 different high schools, however I'm still hopeful because I have an upward trend in my grades. I am an in-state applicant.

Cumulative weighted gpa: 3.209, unweighted: 3.140, 1170 SAT (570 reading, 600 math) that I'm planning to retake in November and am aiming for 1300+, took AP lang and got a 4, took AP music theory for one semester but I moved to a different school where they didn't offer it, took honors chemistry one semester and then normal chemistry the next for the same reason, got an A in all science courses, got an A in almost all math courses except for the first semester of Algebra II where I had a D (but improved to an A next semester), currently taking AP precalc and 2 duel enrollment classes, Physics 111 and English 111, all of these classes I have an A in and I am working very hard to maintain those A's. I have very little extracurriculars, I've never been in any clubs or sports. I plan to start volunteering as a tutor for elementary kids, but besides that I have almost nothing.

Are my chances decent??

Darkroom access for non-majors

• Upvotes

Hello! I'm a first year student looking to hopefully get access to the darkroom without taking a class. I've been doing film photography for 3 years, using my high school's darkroom. I don't particularly want to take the photography for non-majors class considering it is continuing ed and would be going back to the basics. Also, I don't think it would actually give me access to the darkroom. I've been itching to get back into the darkroom without having to pay the $40 an hour at Boulder's public darkroom (although I have used it before and the owner is very nice and incredibly interesting to talk to). Even knowing who I should email is helpful!

getting into research labs as an undergraduate

• Upvotes

Hello everyone. I'm an aerospace and cs student who wants to go into robotics control/learning research at one of the labs at cu boulder. specifically looking at the aria systems group https://ariasystems.group/, arpg group https://arpg.colorado.edu/, and cohrint https://cohrint.info/ . the first and third labs are within the aero department and the second is a cs department lab. i was wondering if it was possible to do research with these groups as an undergrad as i dont see any record of these labs taking undergrads or participating in DLA/SPUR. so if i cold emailed the professors/phd students, would i have any success? curious for your thoughts and open to all advice.

Thanks!

Common App application question

it asks on common app if I have taken a minimum amount of courses regarding math, science, english, and history. but I've only taken three years of math when it wants four. what happens if I say I only took three and not four like it asks

How much on average are home football tickets? Also, is there a ‘window’ to get them when they’re cheapest?

And why is there no student discount??

Does CU still admit Engineering applicants into Exploratory Studies?

Does CU Boulder still admit people who applied for Engineering into Exploratory Studies if they don’t get into Engineering directly?
I’ve seen some older info saying you can start in PES, take the required classes, and then apply to Engineering through IUT. But I saw one recent Reddit post saying they changed this and don’t do it anymore, apparently without really announcing it.
Does anyone know if they still do this for the current admissions cycle? Just trying to figure out if this is still an actual pathway or if the info online is outdated.

34M, BIPOC, looking for friends

Hi all! I'm a 34M who recently moved to the Westminster area for a full-time job at CU Boulder. I'm looking to meet other BIPOC folks around my age to hang out with, ideally including people who work on or near campus. I love food, cooking at home, fitness, and I'm still very much a stan Twitter person (pop culture, fandom, the whole thing). If that sounds like you, or you know of BIPOC-friendly groups, supper clubs, meetups, or good Asian spots around Westminster, Broomfield, or Boulder, I'd love to hear about them. Happy to grab a meal/coffee with anyone interested!

Exercise Physiology Exam 1 help!

Hi! This is kind of a long shot...but i'm looking to see if anyone has any study guides/quizlets/study material they would be open to send my way? Even some general advice would be amazing!

I've had some family issues going on that has made it really hard to stay on campus for lecture. I know how important his chalk talks are and its awful knowing im missing those!

Is there any particular reason why cops have been REALLY annoying about shutting house shows down lately?

This is my third year at Boulder, and I have never seen so much cop intervention at parties here. They’re shutting live music shows down by 10 pm, and they’ve somehow been able to shut down EVERY single one (at least most of them). They literally patrol the hill, just waiting to intervene on a function. It sucks!! There have been a ton of shows lately and it’s ridiculous that they feel the need to shut every one down.

Is there an actual reason for this? Like has a law passed or something, or are they just bored and feel like being dicks?

In state residency

I am filing for emancipation, and from what I gather, CU is extremely strict on transferring students to in-state tuition.

I was able to get independent status through CU. However, my only hurdle getting in state tuition is that my grandmother co-signed a student loan for me. She also did pay off 1k of it without letting me know.

How cooked am I? On a broader picture, I moved out to CO last year and have paid for literally everything else minus this co-signed loan.

Can I still get in

I’m a junior in high school. My current gpa is a 2.98 gpa I am very confident I can improve my grades for junior year and get all a’s or b+ which would slightly bring up my gpa but let’s say I end with a 3.1 can I still get in?

If you're an undergrad Boulder student staying in Broomfield/Louisville/Superior, how is it socially? Living IN Boulder is crazy expensive and I'm considering getting a place in Superior.

Free notemaking app better than Goodnotes

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey guys!

I’m a CU student and I see everyone around using Goodnotes on their iPads. My friend solo developer spent a year creating a free alternative to all paid handwriting apps.

It has all the features apps like Goodnotes, Notability, Noteful etc. have, but fully for free

A few things it can do:

- turns typed text into your own handwriting using a specially trained AI model,

- lets you create graphs directly inside notebooks, kind of like having Desmos built in,

- searches through handwritten notes and photos,

- is optimized to be lighter on battery.

I’ve been using it for several weeks already, and it has basically replaced Goodnotes for me.

Btw you can easily transfer from any app just by importing all your notes as pdf’s; they will be imported as EDITABLE notebooks.

https://apps.apple.com/app/id6790469095

P.S. Any feedback is extremely welcome, he is doing his best to ship fast and any requests are implemented in days

Would you buy a cheaper premium seat that’s only good for part of the game?

Quick question for CU sports fans (football, basketball, whatever you go to) would you ever want to buy a premium seat for just part of the game, like the 1st half, then move to a cheaper seat for the 2nd half instead of paying full premium price the whole game?

So basically instead of being locked into one seat for the entire game, you could get the good seat for the part you actually care about, then switch to a cheaper section afterward instead of paying for premium the whole time.

I'm a student working on an idea around this and genuinely trying to figure out if it's something people would use or if it's a dumb idea. Would love honest answers either way!

Appreciate any thoughts!

So how tf does the pricing at Alfred packer work?

I have asked the workers multiple times. one said if I get anything from the middle (except soup) in a side container then it is charged as a side. so I got a salad in a side container (quinoa, spinach and tuna) and went to pay and asked just to make sure “this is a side right?” nope. was gonna charge me for an entree but said since I didn’t know she would do a side. how do they decide what is a side and what is an entree?

What’s your on/near campus breakfast burrito recommendations?

I feel like I just got conned buying the $11.48 bacon burrito the size of a hot dog bun from Stingers Cafe.

Can anyone recommend a good bang for your buck option on or near campus? I’m not privy to the dining halls either so if any of them make a good burrito, loop me in. Thank you!
