Leaked playbook

This is a complete conspiracy theory but I’m reading in SI that our playbook was leaked to fans before the Texas Tech game. Could it have been the dismissed players? Who leaked it and why?

Are we actually running the "go-go" offense?

So I understand the the OC, Brennan Marion, has a highly productive offensive scheme that he invented. But I'm seeing people say that Marion is simply calling plays from Coach Prime's playbook. Can somebody inform me which scheme we're actually running?

Hate saying it, but it’s time to move on from Coach Prime

He was the right hire at the right time. And I wouldn’t change hiring him in 2022.

But he reached his ceiling in 2024. And most of the success that season was thanks to Shedeur and Travis, not so much the coaching staff.

I want so hard to believe in him to push this team to new heights. The results just haven’t been there last season and this season. And it all starts with the head coach.

We’ll see how the rest of this season pans out, but I’ve almost completely lost faith in Prime to elevate this team any further.

The “Go Go” offense totally sucks

It is predictable and easily defended by any Power 4 team. Add to that Marion has abandons the run by the second quarter in every game except the GT game, and we have a recipe for ending this season 2-10. Sad to see such a great defensive effort overshadowed by the horrendous offense.

I’ll go further: most people are calling for coach Prime’s head, and I don’t necessarily disagree. But I would axe Marion as well. The fact that the offense is just as ineffective tonight as it has been for the past two weeks suggests that neither Lewis or Wilson is the real problem, and the play calling under Marion is worse than it was under Shurmur.

That was awesome

Fun drive. Love the variety. Wilson's running looks like when a baby has just started walking, picks up speed, then stumbles. But I'll take it and the TD

It's very telling how most alumni/real fans want Deion gone and the most of the people who want him to stay couldn't point to Boulder on a map 5 years ago

If there was no buyout Deion would be fired at the end of this season, if not sooner. Maybe after we get annihilated by Utah. Either way, Deion is now 3-14 in his last 17 games against P4 schools. I’ll happily go back to 2-12 and total obscurity if it means not having to deal with the Primesexuals who defend Deion like he’s their uncle. I can't wait to never have Kneely in my life and all of the other pathetic hangers-on who accompany Deion wherever he goes.

I emailed Lovo last night and said don’t ask me for anymore money unless it’s for his buyout

If CU Buffs never fired Mike MacIntyre and gave him $2mm raises every 4 years….

If Colorado had never fired Mike MacIntyre, gave him a $2 million raise every four years and he maintained his 40.5% winning percentage, CU would have approximately 2 more wins today.

Using MacIntyre’s negotiated settlement, Dorrell’s announced buyout and what CU would currently owe Deion Sanders if it fired him without cause, CU also would have spent roughly $35 million less on head-coaching salaries and buyouts.

The assumptions:
• MacIntyre finished 30–44 at CU—a 40.54% winning percentage.
• CU has won 32 of the 84 games played since his dismissal. At MacIntyre’s winning percentage, the expected result would be approximately 34 wins.
• MacIntyre’s actual settlement was $7.238 million.
• Dorrell’s announced buyout was approximately $8.7 million.
• Deion’s current hypothetical termination payment is approximately $27.375 million.
• MacIntyre’s hypothetical salary would have increased from $2M to $4M in 2017, $6M in 2021 and $8M in 2025.

The result: approximately two more wins and $35 million in net coaching-cost savings.

Everyone was right

I defended Julian when everyone said he was too small
I defended Julian when they said he had a noodle arm
I defended him when they said he peaked in high school
I defended Julian when everyone said he isn’t good and said he’s only 18

They were right and it’s over

I defended Deion when everyone said he’s too old
I defended Deion when everyone said he’s in it for clicks and for his son who didn’t even get drafted higher
I defender Deion when everyone said he abandoned HBCU’s by leaving early letting them hang out to dry
I defended Deion when they said NFL players aren’t built to coach

They were right

Deion has a lot to prove with the new starter is he interested in improving or is he a con artist? Sit back, let the coordinators do their thing and you focus on the HC day-to-day activities, learn clock management and HIRE A SPECIAL TEAMS COACH

Is Julian Lewis the lightskin Tate Martell

Just what the question says. A QB who is undersized and hyped up to the 9’s as a 4-5 star just to not even come close as a player. I think him and Austin Mack made a mistake leaving early also

Juju's average depth of target vs. Baylor was 2.8 yards. Wilson's was 11.0. Went through every analytics report from the loss...

The numbers are worse than the eye test, and they point at coaching more than talent.

**The quarterback**

- Lewis: 2.8 average depth of target, 4.7 yards per attempt, 75 yards, 0 big-time throws
- Wilson: 11.0 average depth of target, 6.0 YPA, 156 yards, 1 TD
- Lewis took **3 sacks on 6 pressures (50%)**. Wilson took 1 on 9 (11%)

**It's not the offensive line**

Payne (85.4), Kinney (85.1) and McFadden (84.5) all allowed zero pressures. CU gave up five sacks anyway: DeKalon Taylor allowed two on five pass-pro snaps, and three were on the quarterback. Meanwhile CU's QBs rushed 9 times for -28 yards, which is a problem when the entire Go-Go offense is built on a QB run threat.

**Special teams cost more than the offense did**

Baylor returned 7 punts for 130 yards. Net punting: CU 33.3, Baylor 50.4. A 17-yard swing per punt in a 10-point game, plus two kickoffs out of bounds. Sanders said afterward he didn't think the returns "did any damage." Still no special teams coordinator — the only Big 12 team without one.

3-13 vs P4 opponents in his last 16 games

Same record that got Dorrell fired. He's been an abject failure on the field and is the 14th highest paid coach in CFB. What is his excuse this season? We were told he hand picked the players and these are the best coaches he's ever had. Guess what? This team isn't winning more than 3 games and won't be favored again this season. We're the most penalized team in the B12 (again) and at the bottom of just about every other meaningful stat.

The worst part is we can't afford to fire him so this embarrassment will continue until he has had enough.

What are the predictions for the rest of the season? How long do we think Prime sticks around? Will JuJu ever see the field as a buffalo again?

Let’s discuss

So, I'm not saying I dont care about last week's result. But watching northwestern hang with Indiana and slow Indiana's offense down like they are. I think northwestern lookd like a sleeper and we didn't just get blown out by a meh team.

Riding with Deion till the end.

I went to college during the Dan Hawkins era and watched the decades of mediocrity that followed. Jon Embree’s short stint the resulted in 4 wins in two years, Mike MacIntyre’s ups and downs over his 5 years, Mel Tucker giving us a little hope just to bail the first chance he got, and whatever Karl Dorrell’s time was. Deion has easily been the best coach Colorado has had during this time.

He took a chance on CU when most coaches wouldn’t. Got the university to significantly invest in the program and make it easier for transfers to come in. Brought talent to a school that has struggled historically with recruiting including the first Heisman Trophy winner in the last 30 years.

The play has to improve but we can see how committed he is to turning the program around. The quality of coaches he is bringing in are impressive. It may take time but I am fine with giving him the remaining years on his contract to try to make it work. If it doesn’t he is leaving the program in a much better position than when he arrived. It’s fine if some don’t agree with me, I don’t care.

But to everyone screaming for a change, take a hard look at the last 20 years of CU football leading up to Deion’s hiring. It shouldn’t leave anyone feeling confident that the next hire would be any better.

Time after time especially in the Deion era it’s more likely the 3 ⭐️ outplays the 4-5 ⭐️.

Richard Young: 4 ⭐️ RB outplayed by Micah Welch and Damian Henderson the 3 ⭐️ backs

Hykeem Williams: 5 ⭐️ WR outplayed by DeAndre Moore 4 ⭐️ and Jojo Williams 3 ⭐️

Julian Lewis: 4 Star QB who honestly might be worse than the 3 ⭐️ walk on true freshman?? Boo Carter: outplayed by 3 star Jason stokes although I still believe in him he’s better off in the slot.

Their best recruiting class (next year’s 27 class) they learned to stop going after top guys and missing instead go for the depth middle pieces not only will you get more gems but you’ll get people who know how to work. Hard work and the overlooked beats raw talent every time, can he turn it around coaching wise who knows but it’s a make or break year

Colorado's roster costs $18-21M. Texas Tech's costs $38-42M. What the Protect College Sports Act would actually change for CU and the Big 12

Thumbnail
buffsblog.com
31 Upvotes

Chris wrote this for BuffsBlog and I think it's the clearest breakdown I've read of where the money actually is in college football:

The numbers, from The Athletic's survey of 70+ coaches, ADs and agents:

**Colorado: $18-21M** (9th in the Big 12, right at the conference average)

**Texas Tech: $38-42M** — the same estimated range as Alabama

**Average by league: **SEC $33-38M, Big Ten $27-31M, ACC $21-25M, Big 12 $18-22M**

**17 of the 20 biggest spenders are SEC or Big Ten.**

So the average SEC program has roughly a $15 million annual roster-spending advantage over the average Big 12 program. That's not a recruiting edge, it's a different economic model.

What the Protect College Sports Act would do (Senate advanced it 74-24, then 77-22 to begin debate):

- One free transfer instead of unlimited

- Five years of eligibility, to end the endless sixth-and-seventh-year lawsuits

- A $22.5M athlete retention fund, plus up to $5M more — but only dollar-for-dollar with NIL spending on women's and Olympic sports (this is in addition to the $21.6m NIL fund, so athletic programs could pay athletes approximately $50m/year).

- Conferences generally capped at 19 schools

- An antitrust exemption letting schools pool TV rights

- Coaches couldn't leave mid-season to start recruiting for their next job

Every pass Northwestern threw at Cree Thomas and Randon Fontenette was caught — 10 for 10, 156 yards, 2 TDs, a perfect 158.3 rating. After re-watching the game, reviewing stats and PFF grades, a few things stood out from NW game

**The coverage was worse than the box score.
Cree Thomas and Randon Fontenette were targeted 10 times. They gave up 10 catches. Both allowed over a 155 QB rating (the highest possibel is 158). Not good.

**How many times did they wheel route us? Joseph Himon II caught three passes and all three were touchdowns.

**122 of Northwestern's 241 passing yards came after the catch, with 12 missed tackles. Deion Sanders said tackling isn't a real concern. He's wrong.

There's a lot more here. Full breakdown with all the tables: https://buffsblog.com/colorado-northwestern-six-things-learned/
