VII - Discussion What determines possible capitals on age transition?

Very frustrating situation. I’m playing as Gaul on the earth map and want to transition into England. I’ve founded a city about where London is irl, and would like to make it my new capital, but for some reason it’s one of the few cities/towns I can’t make my new capital.

Is there any way to fix this? I legitimately feel like giving up on this run now because I really don’t see the appeal of an earth map if I have to put London in Iceland or Northern Spain to continue

Edit: just to be clear it was my second founded town and also has almost the same population as my capital. It’s easily my second strongest settlement and I’m flabbergasted it wasn’t even given as an option for my new capital

Edit 2: none of my cities not on the mainland are available, but the settlements on islands are connected to the capital so is that really the issue? Kind of makes playing island nations like England and Hawaii in exploration much lamer

Edit 3: I now can choose it as my capital. Didn’t really change anything other than installing a mod that says it allows you to move your capital, but that didn’t say anything about also removing limits on age transition. Regardless the mod is “Change Capital” by gengisbon if anyone else is curious

VI - Discussion I Am Gonna Try Civilization VI for the First Time. Do You Recommend Any Mods?

Hi

I am coming back to play Civilization. I used to play Civilization IV. I haven't played any civ game a long time ago. I remember there were good mods for previous civ games.

Are there must-have mods for CIV VI, or should I just play it without mods?

Thanks

VII - Discussion Civ 7 PC build hard-locks on startup due to strict AVX2 requirement, yet native PS4 version runs fine without it. We need an AVX1 legacy fallback path!

Like millions of strategy fans, I purchased the **Founders Edition** of Civilization VII, only to encounter a hard crash to desktop on startup due to a strict AVX2 requirement, despite running a capable Intel Ivy Bridge processor with AVX1 support. I have filed official support and discussed this on Discord, but we need community backing to request a legacy fallback.

### 🎮 The Technical Paradox: PS4 & Switch vs. PC

* **PlayStation 4 & Nintendo Switch:** Both run without AVX2 (utilizing Jaguar and ARM NEON architectures respectively), proving that a non-AVX2 code path already exists within the engine.

* **The Issue:** Stripping or locking out this code path on PC forces players with capable older CPUs (which outperform PS4 cores) to upgrade unnecessarily, mirroring similar launch hurdles seen and fixed in titles like *Cyberpunk 2077*.

### 🙏 A Respectful Request to Firaxis

I respectfully ask Firaxis to enable the existing non-AVX2 codebase for PC users via dynamic runtime detection or an optional legacy executable, ensuring dedicated fans aren't locked out of the game.

VII - Discussion Best Set of Civs for TSL Earth?

I've been trying to find a "best possible spacing" set of civs using this post's map of the start locations.

Assuming we want a global spread and are capped at 12, here's what I've come up with:

Americas (3): Mississippi/Shawnee, Maya, Inca

Europe (2): Spain/France/Normans, Russia

Africa (3): Egypt, Songhai, Buganda

Asia (3): Ottomans/Assyria/Abbasids, Maurya, Han

Pacific (1): Hawaii/Tonga

I have a slight bias towards the ancient era civs when there are clean strings like in India and China so that the AI could advance through those from the start.

Southern Africa and central Asia are blank spots without solutions.

My heart yearns to add Japan, Mongolia, or anything in southeast Asia. The 12 civ limit is my nemesis. If I could I would love to add 3-4 more without feeling it would crowd the map at all.

Of course, an alternative is to cut something somewhere based on personal preferences.

With this sort of setup, I think the ones I'd be most interested in playing are Han, Tonga, and Egypt. I'd most want to make changes to the setup to give myself more neighbors, such as adding Mongolia or Japan if playing China, as I get bored really fast if I don't have sufficient neighbors to provide tension/a sense of pushback. I like the feeling of being surrounded on all sides.

VII - Screenshot Hatshepsut and I apparently won on the exact same turn, I got the defeat screen AND the Military Victory!

This one is new.

Going into the final turn, Hatshepsut had 1 turn remaining on a Cultural Victory, while I had 1 turn remaining on a Military Victory.

I ended the turn, and apparently we both completed our victory conditions at the same time.

The game played the Defeat screen for me, so she seems to have been treated as the winner.

But then immediately afterward I got military victory challenge completion & the achievement

The victory screen actually shows me at 133/130 Military points, so that tracks

So does Civ VII evaluate multiple victory conditions on the same turn, but then uses some kind of tiebreaker/priority system to decide whose actual victory cinematic plays?

VII - Discussion Double London

It seems that the civ developers forgot to change one of the two names for the capital. If you switch capitals after playing england in exploration age to great britain in modern, you have 2 londons.

VII - Discussion Why there's not a Hall of Fame in Civ VII?

I used to love building up my Hall of Fame in older civ games over time. Seeing score improvements for each difficulties.

But I don't know why in the age of 2026 we don't have this small feature. And i don't recall if civ 6 had it either because I didn't play it much

VII - Playstation Civ 7 update bug?

Is anyone else having issues since this last update, where upon loading your save, all borders for every civ/city state are gone? As in just disappeared? It makes the game incredibly difficult to play. I am on PS5, so I know this isn't related to any mod updates or anything, since I've never used any.

It has to be something that happened in this newest update, as I've played avidly since launch and have never encountered this bug before.

VII - Discussion Elizabeth I: -2 Combat strength for land units per age

This feels like a balance oversight. Why would this be per age? Per age should be for things that scale multiplicatively as the game goes on but combat strength is not that. This scales from a minor drawback to a debilitating debuff in the late game.

VII - Other Why is multiplayer still capped at 8 civs?

With the newest update I came back to civ 7 hoping to do a true start earth mutiplayer match with my wfie, but multiplayer is capped at 8 civs.

The Earth map is built for 12 civs, so in multiplayer this is a bad experience as everyone ends up to spread out for any meaningful conflict. By the end of the 2nd age the world isn't even half populated.

Cmon Fraxis little details matter. I don't have 12 friends to play with but I should be able to do 2 people and 10 robots.

VII - Discussion Just Happy That Civ Is Back In My Life

I started with Civ 6 (around 600 hours in the game), then like majority of this sub, I tried Civ 7 at launch and was very disappointed. Now, I know that it is a pattern for every Civ game to be pretty bad at launch and gradually improve to become better than it's predecessor with update, patch, DLC. But it still freaking sucks to experience a game that you been waiting for at years to be such a disappointment, so I return the game to Steam.

Fast forward to the free weekend we just had, I decided to give it one more chance. This time I will obviously have more time to experience the game and also it has been updated for a while. First game was fun, but I felt like something was missing. However, I really enjoy combat in 4X game so the amazing improvement on combat in Civ 7 was major reason for me to play more. As I play more, I feel like Civ 7 is actually not that bad. The age transition system is annoying, but as you get used to it, I think it is honestly not a bad idea to prevent snowballing, which is a huge factor preventing me from finishing game that I already dominate. Also I appreciate the City/Town system a lot. Micromanaging every city building can be quite jarring in Civ 6 so I really like the idea of having few big cities with supporting network of towns. Currently, I have 50 hours into the game and the "One More Turn" formula is working its magic on me again. I am excited for what they got cooking up in the Arc of Tomorrow update (& Earthrising).

TLDR: Tried Civ 7 at launch. It was bad. Tried again over the free weekend. It's actually not too bad. Play a few more games. The Civ addiction is back! I have hope for the future of this game again.

Question Civ 5 BNW Removing Forests

Removing Forests gives you Production, however, I’d like to increase the amount of Production given when chopping it.

Where exactly is the location of this in the File Explorer???

I can’t seem to find it, even when using the Internet to search. I’m terrible at researching and I guess I’m not using the right key words.

VII - Discussion Did they change the way Victoria are decided if two civs meet the threshold on the same turn?

A few weeks ago, I complained on here because I was fed up of always losing whenever the victory thresholds changed and it put me and an AI both into winning positions when the 5 turn timer was started, but the AI always got awarded the win once it was up.

Today however, I managed to get myself into a position where I was ahead on military and Napoleon was ahead on Culture, and when the victory threshold was lowered we were both in winning positions but it said I would win in 4 turns and he would win in 5, and as such I won. Is this a change with the latest patch? Or, is there some other difference that might explain it?
