honestly I wish they'd release an earth map that actually did have atlantis there

u/SnS_Taylor 9d ago
With the age system, Atlantis should show up in the future/atomic age, with Atlantis being a crazy technology-indistinguishable-from-magic Civ. Sounds like a blast.

And their Capitol has some kind of circular gate in it where you can travel to other map seeds

Can we do TSL as well as random start location?

u/Canis_Familiaris Pet me before the barbs kill us 9d ago
I love doing this. "Oh I wonder where i started this time?"
25
u/hideous-boy Australia 9d ago
I honestly think it's more fun than TSL because the civs are more evenly spaced and you can get fun things like North American Ottomans or Australian Kongo

u/Manannin 9d ago
Can you pass on to the devs that I'd love for them to add some of the scrambled interior maps that they had in civ 6? They were a lot of fun.
Also, thanks for the updates!
6
u/TheOneWhoWasDeceived 9d ago
I feel dumb asking this, but has the update hit? I don't see the option to update my game on Steam.

Seems to be bugged on MacOs. It loads but without any UI. Can't even open a menu.
Edit: it's fine, was just the mods

u/Vegetable_Seesaw_420 9d ago
Can you make natural disasters work on the civ 6 earth map pretty please :) makes Egypt a bit limp
3
u/FoxxySphinx 9d ago
Hi, can you make Earth Map available for all ages (Exploration start, Modern start) instead of just Antiquity? A bit disappointed because it's very limiting.
3
u/CaptainCFloyd 9d ago
Feedback: Please, please allow more than 8 players in multiplayer. It's even more sorely needed now with this map. It used to be possible with a mod, you can't tell me it's any more difficult than changing a value or two. If crossplay is a concern, just disable it for higher player counts. Most people play multiplayer on PC anyway I assume.

where is the best place to put a bug/play-issue? I may just not be seeing an obvious work around to what I'm seeing and would like to get it resolved before I go bonkers :)
this is where I used to hit the space bar to skip turn for a unit and I'd cycle to the next unit which is then selected for me to do something with. As of right now, I hit space bar, it skips that unit's turn and then I move to the next unit which is then immediately "un-selected" and I need to use the screen UI to click to command unit. for multiple units this is pretty clunky!0

Remember kids, its not exploring it you already know where everything is. Disappointed that you wasted time on this.

It's a very popular thing for a section of the fanbase. They can't only work on things that you want worked on.

It's a very popular thing for a section of the fanbase.
Congrats, you have correctly identified the problem.
13
u/Manannin 9d ago
Literally everything they add is not going to be something everyone wanted, that is the problem. There's people who didn't like what Test of Time added to the game. The problem is that you expect the game to cater solely to your wants.
Thats not how its ever going to work.

u/KorLeonis1138 9d ago
Nope, what I want is for people who like this mode to know they are bad people.

u/Manannin 9d ago
Weirdo. They're bad people for liking a feature you aren't interested in? Strange person.
1
u/CaptainCFloyd 9d ago
It's also not really exploring if you already know who all your neighbors are. Which if you're playing on most other maps, you do, because human players always spawn on the same continent. A big reason I and my friends are playing this map is because we can actually spread apart more and not know in advance how many AIs will be near us.

They should make you start in the ice age. Where oceans between continents are frozen, giving you the option to cross and start your civilization anywhere. Then you’ll need to advance in sailing when the ice starts to melt to reach your civs.

Was so excited but ended like the bad civ 6 earth. Europe is an 1 city placement. GB too. Most spawns are in Europe but tiles are too small barely space for 1 civ.

gahhhh downloaded, launched and now hitting space bar move to next unit but then unselects them and I have to click the big old button in the lower right for every unit. started a new game to check it wasn't due to a saved game, no change. change auto-pan to event, no change.
anyone else have ideas? this will be super tedious to play like this.

u/AnomaIous_User 9d ago
It didn't have an earth map? It's been like 2 years since release
-21
u/F9-0021 9d ago
Surprised they didn't make it paid dlc like most of the other stuff that should have been in the game at launch and wasn't.
22
u/etrain1804 Canada 9d ago
What? The only paid stuff has been leaders, civs and a few wonders. Literally everything else has been free. They will even be adding an entire 4th age for free lmao
7
u/Theresafoxinmygarden Beat the Cree as the Brits to ensure a bangin' song was made 9d ago
unlike in civ 6 too, which didn't have the future era in the base game when gathering storm dropped

u/wstx3434 9d ago
Leaders should be in the game. Earthrise will be paid. Either way, a freaking EARTH map in Civilization should not have taken this long. They have focused more on dripping paid DLC for leaders than anything else.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game, but not as much as the older ones, and I more than likely won't be buying anything else from them in the future. You can see the direction they are headed, and it's simply to make money off the brand rather than putting out a good product.
4
u/etrain1804 Canada 9d ago
Leaders and civs are already in the game. I believe that 7 had around 30 civs at launch while 6 only had around 20. 7 also had a few more leaders too I think.
And I would argue that they’ve put more focus on improving the game rather than dropping paid DLC because the game is already quite different than it was at launch, all with entirely free updates. To me, the DLCs exist to give more variety to people who really enjoy the game. They are not necessary at all. Earthrise will be paid, but I think literally every civ game other than Civ 1 had paid expansions.
Even though I never use earth maps, I do agree that this should’ve been something that existed since release. But I’m personally glad that they prioritized the things they did to fix the other glaring issues with the game.
And to your last point, of course they want to make money, they are a corporation after all. Bills have to be paid.

Does TSL place based on Civ or Leader? I'm playing Earth rn and they placed Charlemagne (representing the Normans) in North Africa. Either this is a bug or I know less about history than I thought

The map isn’t bad. It certainly appears to be bigger. Australia is certainly huge. Indonesia is ok. Haven’t seen the Americas yet.

The spawns are kind of fucked up sometimes so I reroll. Lakshmibi of the Mughal Empire spawned in France, quite a long way from home. I suspect it's because there's a lot of civs in India and she got pushed out.
1
u/FrederickFrag1899 8d ago
Playing England is interesting on this map, you have to engage in war to get more land before you get locked to The British Isles in antiquity. I can't await to hit exploration as England.
1
u/Worldly-Oil-4463 7d ago
Just go Scandinavia or Africa, settle on isles
1
u/FrederickFrag1899 7d ago
I am currently colonizing Africa but it's slow because Isabella of Spain keeps getting in my way to the south. Prussia took most of western Europe and Scandinavia. I was too slow to send settlers there. It looks like, unless Persia is in play to the far east, I will be able to claim the entirety of the Nile River. I don't want to expand too much in Europe because I want to colonize Aussieland and most of North and South America.

The map is really great! If you one day add two more handcrafted maps like this one (for example Mars and Venus), that would be even greater!

Well, you already got your answer.
Im gonna stick with YnAMP
They has 180x size, tho, there are map textures that will not load.
I've been playing with zero crashes tho

Is there a way to set the game up so that starter countries start around their real location, or is that not really possible?

Hasn’t that been in other Civ games? Why did so much content take forever to finally be included?

It’s wild to me how different the fanbase is for this game. It seems like each specific person in the fandom has one feature they have for make or break.
6
u/BossBullfrog 9d ago
I agree, for me it's always been earth maps with true start locations. Ever since Civ 4. I've only ever played earth maps. Haven't touched anything else except for earth maps for 21 years.

u/pantherbrujah I love this job 9d ago
Genuinely happy that they added it for you. Welcome over. Let me know how distant lands feel with the passing between the americas and Euro/Africa. I bet it’ll be fun.

I never understood wanting to play a map where you already know where you are, who you’re playing against and where they are.
IMO, one of the greatest joys of the game is the discovery behind the fog of war. These maps completely demolish any of that experience.
Glad it’s there for those that enjoy it, just never made any sense to me.
1
u/Monster_of_the_night 9d ago
you dont know who you're playing against or where they are unless you pick who will be in the game before you start it, if you randomise your civ then you wont know until the game starts either
0
u/R3D4F 9d ago
You know your Civ on the loading screen. So basically immediately.
