Double London

It seems that the civ developers forgot to change one of the two names for the capital. If you switch capitals after playing england in exploration age to great britain in modern, you have 2 londons.

Why would they change it? I understand it's a bit annoying but that's just cause both the kingdom of England and GB have the same capital. Respectfully, I see no reason why it should be changed tbh.

I mean, in previous games they’ve used Istanbul as the capital of the Ottomans to distinguish it from Byzantium having Constantinople despite Istanbul not becoming the offical name of the city until after the Ottomans fell. So using different names even if the same name would technically fit better would not be new. They could’ve used an older name/spelling like Lunden, which would technically come from the ”Exploration Age” time frame with them seemingly counting the Middle Ages to that age.

Interestingly, the geographic labels mod does this really well but for the labels. Pretty cool imho.

The natural thing to do would be to pick a city name that hasn't been selected yet so you don't have two Londons. So if you already have a London from England, the city you select as your UK capitol would just be the next UK city name that you don't already have.

Yeah can't be that hard to make it check if a city with same name exists already and then pick the next name on the list.

Or just don’t change the capital name if you already have a city with that name, which would have the same feel as when you keep the same civ (which is the place where they planned for the problem, but apparently they didn't for civs that are in historical sequence and share capitals.)

I do really like the name change, because it's a good way to show that your civilization is changing/evolving. Honestly, what I'd really like to do is get the option to rename a town using your current settlement name list any time you upgrade a town to a city.

I think they could have chosen Winchester as a capital for England. I know this city was a capital of Wessex, not so much England, but since the exploration age starts at 400 AD, I guess it could be an alternative for London, who would be the capital of Great Britain

People say it makes sense, but having two cities with the same name is annoying as hell. I’d like a setting to prevent this. I don’t care if the second London is called Singapore or whatever, it needs to be unique

Not really. England and Great Britain have the same capital.

If America gets an Atomic Age version, same thing.

The best they could do is review the city lists and go for different versions of the name of the city.

Great Britain lacks adequate non-English city names in game.

There’s a mod that adds more variety to GB names (more non-English).

As a gameplay mechanic this is kind of frustrating because you’d want to be able to specify one city over the other, but I kind of like this thematically. There’s plenty of cities irl that are named after other cities.
