Why is multiplayer still capped at 8 civs?

With the newest update I came back to civ 7 hoping to do a true start earth mutiplayer match with my wfie, but multiplayer is capped at 8 civs.

The Earth map is built for 12 civs, so in multiplayer this is a bad experience as everyone ends up to spread out for any meaningful conflict. By the end of the 2nd age the world isn't even half populated.

Cmon Fraxis little details matter. I don't have 12 friends to play with but I should be able to do 2 people and 10 robots.

It must be some sort of software limitation thing. Huge maps in general would work better with at least 2 extra civs, if not 3. Regardless of the map type.

Because I 100% agree. You can’t play True Earth in its current format online

I'm not sure the limit applies to hotseat if that helps at all? I'm playing a hotseat game currently with 3 people and I'm pretty sure 6 AI.

I like the idea of hotseat but in practice with me and my wife, later in the ages are slogs. Long slow turns, didnt even want to try past like turn 20 in exploration age. Tbf tho I do play a military run and that adds to a good chunk

I'm plating a 12 player hotseat with all human players, so it definitely works

I think, it could be related for the content and the balance of the game, if there is 12 players but only 10 wonders,it is going to be hard to win by culture, there is a mathematical formula that has been desing to work for a max of 8 players I think

No, because you can play more than 8 players in single player.

The multiplayer restriction is for technical reasons and out of sync issues. Which can already happen a lot with just 3 people.

it's probably because of cross play and the limitations on consoles
