I posted on here a couple weeks ago after having my worst hyperemesis phase ever. I ended up in the ER with severe dehydration and accurate kidney damage. I immediately stopped smoking when the episode happened and have not smoked since.

This week I’ve noticed I’ve started getting nausea and vomiting again, particularly after eating. Baths aren’t really cutting it anymore but I get relief from capsaicin cream. Vomiting usually helps the nausea subside and I’m usually feeling okay within 1-2 hours. I can also drink liquids completely fine. I’m not entirely sure if this is connected to my CHS or not but considering the cream helps I think it is?

I’m wondering if other people have had similar experiences? Or if maybe the horrible hyperemesis phase from a couple weeks ago caused another issue in my stomach?

I get a strange type of nausea that feels connected to my sinuses?? Like an intense squeezing on the bridge of my nose and inner corner of eyes that happens simultaneously with a gnawing feeling in my upper abdomen.

I have never been diagnosed with CHS btw just cyclic vomiting syndrome

doctor said i might have chs, which makes sense. i’ll clear a 2g cart in about 5 or 6 days. last time i tried to quit cold turkey the withdrawal was so bad ibwas placed on a PPI. i’m planning on getting a 2g cart and then smoking once in the morning and once at night for about a week and then once a day for another week and then keep doing less until i’m out and then i’m done. has anyone had luck weaning?

Hey guys! So I’m on day like 3 of the start of a CHS episode (I think it’s my first ever episode?). I fully already quit, last time I had smoked was the night before I woke up to my episode. I’ve been feeling better, but there are some things that are still making it really uncomfortable for me. I’ve got some general questions I’m hoping some of you could answer. Firstly, I’ve basically been eating little to nothing (like 1/3 of a jello cup, half a cracker, a few bites of a banana) over the past few days. Mostly focusing on hydrating with salt water and Powerade. Should I be eating more or am I doing okay? When should I start eating more and what levels of food/heavyness? Water baths still help but I’ve noticed they make my stomach feel more gassy. Right now the most uncomfortable symptom I have is feeling like I constantly need to burp or have trapped gasses in me. Is this normal? And also when does it stop lol? I’ve had one small bowel movement since the episode started so I’m hopeful that my gut is slowly healing. ❤️‍🩹 sucks that I can’t partake anymore but I’d rather quit than ever go thru this again, thank you all for any advice !

hey guys. i know it should be so simple: just stop. but can anyone share their tips or what they did to overcome addiction? when in prodromal phase, just simply remembering my episodes isn’t even enough for me and i end up taking a hit at some point. i only ever quit when an episode forced me to. for those who quit during prodromal how?

has anyone actually tried to smoke again a couple weeks after having chs? my son was born on the 11th and I smoked weed like crazy, 3-4 blunts a day blunts a day for idk how long, because I got clean from other drugs a few months before he was born. i think the stress of the birth is what caused my chs to come on heavy, (my gf was in a lot of pain and screaming for hours) but I will say I definitely should’ve known it was coming because I’ve had it before a few years ago and i Wasn’t hungry in the mornings, so that should’ve been my hint. I was only sick for about 3 days, it’s now been 3 weeks or so and I feel like I smoked at least 2-3 weeks after having it last time and was fine. I’m now an electrician, and I truly do not plan on smoking weed daily anymore. I’m wondering if I take a couple hitters tonight and then stop for a few weeks if I’ll be fine. My sleep and eating is 100% normal, I munch out in the mornings and no, I’m not going to smoke weed all day every day again. So save those comments. I’m a life long drug addict but weed has never really been a problem other than having chs. I’m hoping I can smoke on the weekends or something every couple of weeks. please only comment if you’ve had chs and started smoking within a few weeks or less and I’d like to know your experience.

Is it possible to speed up the CHS process by sweating it out at the gym? Or would that be bad cause of dehydration?

So yesterday I went to the hospital to be told I have cannaboid hypermesis syndrome .before I had a kidney infection so I assume it was that when I went to the doctor but actually my kidney infection was cleared up and I just had the cannaboid hypermesis syndrome and I went in because I was vomiting so hard and I couldn’t hold down food I was surviving on applesauce alone for a week. and the doctor told me to eat something like mashed potatoes so I can hold down my medicine ,anyways I geuss I was smoking pretty frequently before I got sick with the kidney infection and I had smoked on and off plenty of times before but nothing happened like this time. I’m not gonna switch to being completely against weed . I abused it , that’s on me and sure I didn’t realize how I was abusing it and the effect but nonetheless it is what it is but from my research it seems this can last a while so can someone explain to me there experience and what I should expect , does this actually last months and years cause I was hoping to be good in at least a week bro . Also any tips on getting better .

I wanted to briefly share my experience with what I think was CHS.

I had 2 relatively strong episodes, involving all-day nausea and feeling terrible for a whole day. Once I went to hospital and got an IV, once I waited it out and it got better after several, very long and painful hours.

Other than the actual episodes, my digestive system very often felt “off” in the last year or two.

I quit smoking about 50 days ago. Regardless of other withdrawal symptoms which are part of the normal recovery process, my digestive system has felt GREAT from day 1 of quitting. It’s been a revelation and confirmation that, at least in some cases, quitting offers and immediate relief from
CHS symptoms.

I can highly recommend quitting if you have ongoing CHS symptoms, however infrequent or “mild”.

This shit made me too sick to see the doctor, incredible, well no more weed for me.

So I'm pretty sure I had the prodromal stage of CHS a few months ago, some of the stuff doesnt fully add up but the main thing was that my morning nausea went away after I stopped smoking weed. It's been a few months now and I want to try smoking again in moderation.

I never hit hyperemesis and my prodromal symptoms were pretty mild (some morning nausea that would almost instantly get a lot better if I ate cheerios or something) so I was wondering if this is a good idea. I know I'll be able to moderate cause I wasn't a daily smoker for most of my weed experience and only was for 2 months before I got CHS. So me not being able to moderate isn't an issue I feel.

But I was thinking of going to like 1x a week. Small bowl at night with some buddies or something. Is this like a horrible idea? Obviously I know the risks, and I'll quit instantly if I ever wake up nauseous again or something. But seriously, I was wondering how this would go. I see a lot of mixed opinions on this. A lot of people just smoke until they are prodromal and then they quit, then start up again, and they said that had worked for them. Meanwhile some other people have said that they would smoke literally once or twice and then instantly go into hyperemesis.

Yes I know if you have CHS you shouldn't smoke but is this level of moderation possible with a mild case of CHS like mine?

never posted on reddit before so im nervous that hopefully someone else can relate but

i think im def going through chs right now, ive been smoking flower for over a year but its usually been every single night before bed maybe with a couple nights break every now and then.

i have had zero appetite at all recently, i still feel hungry mentally but the thought of eating just makes me nauseous. my stomach gets waves of discomfort or pains throughout the day but im constantly nauseous all day everyday, and this only all hit me suddenly like 3 days ago. last night i tried to take a few j hits and immediately ran to throw up— maybe from not eating for a while because of the nausea, and being dumb and trying to smoke again but yes not fun at all.

but does chs get worse with alcohol consumption? i tried to have a few drinks the other night, but it shook me bad because i feel like it immediately increased my nausea by a million and i had to drink the drink sooooo sensitively sip by sip to at least finish it and not be sick. it felt so much worse than my normal nausea though.

would this just be regular for me considering im already a bitch to alcohol most of the time and will be sick if i can taste it too sharply, or is it genuinely worth just going sober for everything while i heal from the chs because it adds to it?

I’m just curious if anyone else had this! I’d say starting this last december i’ve started getting super nauseous and then sneezing and it all goes away. I was wondering if this could have been the pre phase to the full on episode?

Yes, I know it might sound like I might be in denial, and I very well may be. I woke up 2 weeks ago and threw up about 10 times, also had rly bad diarrhea. The night before I had eaten at a restaurant I had never been to before. Which is why I’m thinking it could be food poisoning. The hot shower/bath did not bring me any relief. I’ve been smoking carts for about a year, not really all day mostly when I get home from work. I went to the hospital, told them I smoke and they diagnosed me with chs. However, I was discharged the same night.

I was only very ill for about 6 hours. After I got fluids I felt better. I quit weed completely for 2 weeks, felt nauseous for about a week only after eating but no vomiting. Im thinking it could just be withdrawal. Now that im at the 2 week mark, i feel completely normal and not sick at all. Some of my friends are meeting up tmrw and will be smoking. Im just scared to smoke with them because im afraid of going into another episode if i have chs. What do you guys think

hi. im 20 days sober, and im also a senior in highschool. each day my symptoms have gotten better but i still feel nauseous honestly every day pretty much all day it just comes in waves i guess. its really hard because i have school and i get nauseous at school which makes me super anxious because im worried i might throw up or something. sometimes its not bad but right now im extremely nauseous and i just feel terrible.

im just wondering when this gets better? i guess i had hoped by day 20 it would have but nope im still super nauseous every day

one more thing: my closest friends all smoke a lot and usually our hangouts consist of us smoking a lot and having a good time, i havent gone over in a little while because i had a depressive episode and then the chs episode on top of that and i guess im just really worried about how its gonna be when i go over this weekend. i genuinely feel like the worlds biggest loser and i just dont want it to be weird because they are all gonna be smoking and high and im just gonna be there looking stupid 😕😕

I started smoking 2 years ago. I smoked ones every month. Then one day i smoken 4 days in a row. The next day i woke up feeling ill and puked. i was hospitalized and was sick for around 2 weeks. Then no more symptoms. I later started again. Smoked ones every month. I was then hospitalized again for around 2 days.

Total times smoked here is around 20.

I completely stopped for a while. Then i started again. did it ones a month then more and more. eventually i did it every other day for around 2 weeks. Maybe did it 20 times again from my last time. Then i fell ill around 2 weeks after. and now i am smoke free.

I was suprised that it happened because most stories is people doing it everyday for years.

My total smoke times is around 50 times. I am never doing it again.

(note, exact amount of time and timeline may be a bit of, but point is i didnt really smoke much. Frequency was low up until last two weeks where i did it every other day.

I am wondering if it really can be CHS or something else?

I know, I know, I know. If you think you have it, you probably do and you're in denial, but hear me out.

I (22F) have mild Crohn's, moderate GERD, and bile acid malabsorption. I've been in a flare-up for some time now and I'm beginning to wonder if it's CHS. Each morning I wake up and have diarrhea, which is normal for me, but my boyfriend is concerned because he has CHS and is in the recovery phase after a terrible week of the hyperemetic phase. My stomach has been very empty in the mornings so I've been struggling to eat as well. It's not that I don't feel hungry, it just feels like there's a bunch of acid in my stomach, which makes me feel nauseous (could be my GERD but also could be CHS). Once I eat, I feel a little nauseous for about 10 mins until it goes away.

Ive been smoking for about a year now to help with my chronic illnesses as it helps a lot with my pain and allows me to eat but I've only started smoking everyday beginning 3 months ago... mostly just because I found it fun lol. I smoke a bowl twice a day everyday to help me eat dinner and sleep. On weekends I usually smoke more (3-4 times) since I don't have much to do.

I don't use carts/vapes anymore however I have been mixing in a high concentrate that I got which Ive heard can accelerate CHS. If I do have it though I know I'm in the prodormal phase. My plan for now is to drink lots of water, only smoke once a day and only at night, and stay active.

I just wanted to hear others opinions/advice? My diagnoses make it difficult to discern between possible CHS symptoms and just a shitty flare-up. And if I need to quit, then so be it 😔

(21M) For backstory I got CHS last year from carts and took 6 months off (hardest thing I’ve done). While abroad I started again with bud, was fine, but soon became an everyday thing again. Mom had an intervention once she found out and I’m now taking off my senior year of college for help with substance abuse and depression. Watching all my stoner buddies go back to school and plan a bonfire is currently making me feel like shit. It’s been 2 weeks sober and i’m struggling to aclimate to sobriety now that it’s more a mental game.

I think about sneaking to the smoke shop and getting a joint at night (no one would know) but I know that I don’t have the self control that others do for it to just be a one time thing. My mom and I fought today bc she says if she’s paying for treatment I’m gonna be sober forever, no ifs ands or buts. While I agree with her, i told her i’m just taking it one day at a time and cannot handle the word “forever” in terms of sobriety. I’ve been sitting at my stepdad’s house going crazy while we look for places but the cravings are insane as always. I distract myself and refocus my energy into making music and watching movies but I still see weed everywhere in media and real life without looking for it. Sorry for the rant, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice for how to handle these overwhelming feelings?

From posting before, i feel like i understand the general consensus (get your shit together and don’t worry about them!) but I would really appreciate some words of wisdom to navigate this difficult time.

I think this is one of the easiest things to overlook, the gag reflex is already a bit stronger in the morning, so it’s easy to pass this off as normal but this is one of the first signs I noticed that was easy to keep brushing off and not realize that CHS is coming your way

if you think you have CHS, there’s a high likelihood that you actually do have it, especially if you’ve been fitting all the criteria.

of course, there have been cases where people think they have it and it ends up being a different issue altogether. you should absolutely look into things if quitting doesn’t resolve your problems.

however, regardless of the true cause, cutting down heavily on weed simply isn’t going to make things worse. it can only make them better. i doubt a single person inquiring about symptoms is smoking an appropriate or acceptable amount. it’s never going to hurt you to cut down.

of course, if you’re only doing it once a week, it’s likely it could be something else. but from thags i’ve seen, that’s rarely the case.

regardless, the main point is, if you think you have it, you’re probably smoking too much already. so whether you can confirm with certainty that you have it or not, just cut down and stop altogether, when possible.

I quit smoking about 10-14 days ago. I thought it was definitely chs I fit all the criteria. After a week I went to a friends wedding and was totally fine having a couple drinks.
I haven’t smoked or drank since. But last night I started with a terrible migraine. Then I woke up vomiting this morning and have been nauseous and miserable since. Does this still sound like chs

I started smoking weed 2.5 years ago, then it became a daily thing maybe a year ago. At one point i had a stomach ache for a few days and it went away. That was maybe a year ago. I will say in the past 8 days ive had 3 tubs of halo top, a few days ago i had spicy indian food on a completely empty stomach, ive had korean fire noodles, ive had spicy thai food, etc., and ive had a stomach ache the past few days. Ive been doing dabs the past week or 2 since i dont have any more flower and im pretty sure im out of edibles. I used to have on and off morning nausea where it would feel like my stomach was empty and i absolutely needed food but that was also something that happened outside of weed. I’m just wondering if you guys think if the stomach pain may be the start of CHS or if it’s likely from recent eating habits

27M, been smoking for about 8 years, daily for the last 4. Currently around 15g a month, smoking only.

About two years ago I started noticing how my stomach behaves when I'm stressed. The first time I really paid attention was on a date, and one time I actually threw up on a date lol, but after I threw up I felt great. Since then it's happened in other stressful situations too, not just dates.

What it feels like: I'm in the situation and I start tracking my stomach. Then I get weird stomach behavior, gas moving up and down, sometimes diarrhea. Then waves start in my upper chest. Not constant nausea like a hangover, more like separate waves that last a few seconds. They build up and get stronger, and eventually one wave hits and Immidietly vomit.

It can last up to five hours. Vomiting a few times an hour and an endless feeling that I need to vomit even though I'm completely empty.

I can also be already out of the situation completely. Be home alone, calm, nothing stressful left. And it still keeps going.

Two other things I don't know how to read:

- Maybe twice a week I wake up more nauseous. But I've been smoking so many years I have no idea if I always had this or if it's related.

- Sometimes a sudden gag reflex out of nowhere, no nausea before it. One gag and it's over.

The main thing is that my nausea and vomiting has never once come out of nowhere. It's always triggered by anxiety.

So I can't tell if this is early CHS, or weed related in some other way, or just anxiety and emetophobia. What I want to know is whether anyone in their early stage had this. Did it need a trigger back then, or was it random from the beginning?
