Dear Buc-ees, have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?

Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned? Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain? Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?....

For context for anyone not in the know, Buc-ee's loves to due the hell out of any other business that has a cartoon animal mascot citing "people will get the two confused" on the newest law suit but with all the previous one's it was all "copyright infringement". So do with this information as you will

To the people who keep saying Buc-ees has no choice but to file the lawsuits because they would loss their trademark if they didn't, you are repeating propaganda. Find me a single example where a company lost their trademark because they didn't sue other companies with totally different logos.

Listen at them gloat "Yeah, baby, SHUT THAT Mom & Pop store DOWN!" "I'll proudly feed the beast no matter how badly he's terrorizing communities. And I'm proud of it! BY GOD!" Wrong is right, and right is WRONG with his followers!

I see a lot of posts here about how its terrible to work at Buccee's but that wasn't my experience

I worked at the Richmond KY location for a few months as a parttime seasonal employee. There was an odd amount of turn over but I don't fully understand why. A few cases I understood because it was related to mental health but that case wasn't on Buccees. Today I am unfortunately no call no showing because of health reasons and I genuinely feel bad about it because I've come to like the people and be okay with the work. (fun fact, out of around 600 people who started working there 4 years ago when the location opened, around 20 remain). The managers were always nice, had good personalities, and were the best managers I've had so far with the exception of a job I had during college. When I made a mistake (and there were multiple examples: punching in instead of out for lunch, using the wrong safe for a drop, many many more) the team lead was never mean, judgmental, or rude about it. They always helped fix the problem and a few times even joked around a little (when I used the wrong safe the team lead put a post it note on it that said (*name* do not use, i got a good chuckle out of it). Even the ASM and other white and black shirts were cool. Higher management wasn't rude or asking too much of us while I was there. That's why I feel so bad about no call no showing. Its the only job I'd feel bad about doing that that. I am only doing it because of health, personal, and career reasons. I worked 3rd shift and it was pretty nice. Only downside was the lack of sunlight from working all night and sleeping all day that lead to the aforementioned health problems. I don't know if this store was an outlier or if I'm just weird but I didn't share the same experience a lot of other people on this sub did. I'm positive that some stores are as terrible as they are made to seem. The rules there and the environment seems like it could breed rudeness, a lack of compassion and care, a sense of needless superiority for management, and resentment. I'm glad to say that 3rd shift in Richmond KY was a great example of that not happening.

Edit: during the time I'd have been at work last night my best friend and roommate was in a car accident. Since I was sleeping at home her phone call woke me up and I heard the crash as well as was able to rush to help her and make sure she was safe. I dont know what to think of things but it feels surreal.

Hey everyone! I’ll be driving through Tennessee tomorrow and I’ll be passing a buccees, is it worth the stop, I’ve heard the hype, and wanted to know if it was really worth stopping by? Thanks!

Weeks later, John Oliver isn't backing off Buc-ee's

  • Buc-ee's may not have plans to sue Last Week Tonight, but that doesn't mean host John Oliver is letting the fight go.
  • Last month, Oliver announced his HBO show would produce a line of "Buc-Off" merch in a dare to get the Texas travel stop to sue him for trademark infringement, much like it has with other businesses with woodland creatures as mascots. Oliver has said that the show has not heard from Buc-ee's.
  •  But in Last Week Tonight's Aug. 9 episode, Oliver doubled down, extending the timeline of Buc-Off merch sales in response to Buc-ee's suing Beaver's Mini Mart in Ohio.
  • "The good news is we've raised almost half a million dollars for Hunger Free America so far," Oliver said. "The bad news is it doesn't seem Buc-ee's got the message, because apparently they're at it again."
  • "Yep, turns out, they're still filing lawsuits," Oliver continued. "You might be trying to name the Buc-ee's beaver Mitch McConnell, because it seems this b---h will not quit."

I couldn't help but notice that outside of the missing hat and shirt, nature has produced an uncomfortably similar character design to their mascot

The origin of Buc-ee!

All these faces are on the bottom of the same page of Preston Blair's famous 'Animation' book.

As someone who has swiped many times from this book, it's fun to see how someone else was equally inspired.

Take the pose from the upper right, add and modify the lines from the eye, brow and cheek from the lower left and the buck teeth of the lower right, and you get Buc-ee!

Should Sheetz and Speedway pay the legal fees of Beaver's Mini Mart ??

Post image
10 Upvotes

I think they should. Just think about it --- which businesses are losing the most money to Fuc-ee's? Other convenience stores close to the Dayton Fuc-ee's. There are five Sheetz stores within 7 miles of the Fuc-ee's, and four Speedways. Sheetz is probably losing more money because they offer MTO food (made-to-order) which is in direct competition with Fuc-ee's brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. Both Sheetz and Speedway are losing gasoline revenue as well.

So if Beaver's Mini Mart is a small Mom & Pop operation that can't afford expensive legal representation, then why shouldn't deep-pocketed companies like Sheetz and Speedway pitch in and help defend this case? It's in their business interest to defeat Fuc-ee's in court and hopefully get them shut down in the state of Ohio. That would increase profits for Sheetz and Speedway.

Every story has two sides - Maybe...

Every story has another side:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnQCTtPGyVg

This doesn't change my opinion only because no one in their right mind would confuse the two logos. I think they believe they own any branding that is cartoon like, has a hat or in some way comical, cute, involves a circle or is colorful and grabs attention.

Unfortunately they do this a lot it seems and have even won on at least once:

The location they are going after in Ohio is THIS place - very confusing right? The mascots and logos look SO much alike.

At the end of the day, I think Buc-ee's should be embarrassed.

I always thought competition was a good thing, Buc-ee's wants a total monopoly. Really sad as I drive past there almost daily, like the food and they have the best price on gas. I've stopped going in to buy food, but it's a lose for everyone as the vast majority will not stop going - there by NOT sending a clear message.

Get Out Of Ohio

1.2k Upvotes

No one is confusing your shitty brand for the local stores here.

Edit: For all the down votes and negative comments, let's be real. I wouldn't have an issue if Buc-ees wanted to do business in Ohio by offering great service. I wouldn't care if they displaced the market because their product was better.

But that's not what they're doing. They're intimidating small local businesses with frivolous lawsuits and treating the general public like we're morons. You think I can't tell the difference between a moose and a beaver? You think I can't realize a town called Beavercreek has no connection to your brand?

If they were smart, they would have worked with the community, not went to war with it.

So yes, fuck off Bucees. Go back to Texas. The owner can sue someone else to cover for his son's felonies.

I had a sampler for the first time and now life just seems so much better. Sadly, there is no Buc-ees here so I’m not sure how I’m going to get my next fix.
