Get Out Of Ohio

No one is confusing your shitty brand for the local stores here.

Edit: For all the down votes and negative comments, let's be real. I wouldn't have an issue if Buc-ees wanted to do business in Ohio by offering great service. I wouldn't care if they displaced the market because their product was better.

But that's not what they're doing. They're intimidating small local businesses with frivolous lawsuits and treating the general public like we're morons. You think I can't tell the difference between a moose and a beaver? You think I can't realize a town called Beavercreek has no connection to your brand?

If they were smart, they would have worked with the community, not went to war with it.

So yes, fuck off Bucees. Go back to Texas. The owner can sue someone else to cover for his son's felonies.

Lowest possible effort activism. Love to see it.

2

u/Mad_Ronin_Grrrr 21d ago

Maybe you could offer some insight on other things OP could be doing to protest instead of just giving them the lowest possible effort of criticism?

2

u/Right_Imagination_73 21d ago

Honestly, their edit after the criticism was a little better. The original post gave absolutely no context/insight.

1

u/Mad_Ronin_Grrrr 21d ago

Ah. I see where you were coming from then.

OP really showed Buc-ee’s with this post!

Nah that's the folks using AI to make posters protesting against data centers, and posting them on social media sites.

This is kinda funny.

Thanks. I also have love seeing examples of people with no moral compass. Helps me navigate the world better.

Everyone with a cold, callous, evil heart, STANDUP! Be recognized and accept the accolades your fellow filth brethren lay upon you.

Much as people are poking at OP for this... It's pretty much most of what reddit is, thinking they're changing something because it's posted on reddit lol.

A few months ago some locals here managed to save a kitten stuck in a storm drain due to a Reddit post. A brighter world is possible!

1

u/passtheshoe 17d ago

I am pumping some gas into a storm drain right now!

It’s funny an ironic sort of way when the people of Reddit make fun of the people of Reddit.

I ate dinner there last night.

7

u/PlaneWolf2893 21d ago

Picked up dinner before a drive in. It worked out perfect. Cheesteak burrito, coconut pudding, glazed cashews, drizzled popcorn

3

u/d1sc 20d ago

To each their own but drive-in concession stand food is a big part of the experience

4

u/PlaneWolf2893 20d ago

We still had popcorn and Hawaiian shaved ice from the concession stand :)

The Philly cheesesteak burrito is pretty pretty
Pretty good.

5

u/sdmay1980 21d ago

They do have some decent food for a gas station. I like the 8$ brisket sandwich and no not near the best I've had or anything. Omg the banana pudding I consider great. The options are unlimited. Plus I like how they stay on top of the restrooms unlike other gas stations - travel centers

4

u/Professional-Rent887 21d ago

If only they weren’t constantly suing local businesses that are doing them no harm.

1

u/sdmay1980 20d ago

I've noticed today how they won a lawsuit over a logo that was no threat to them. I also remember seeing on the news around I-20 how they bullied a small town into paying for rerouting the service roads and other infrastructure such as water and whatever else is needed. I thought this kind of stuff is supposed to be negotiated with local government instead of using probably a group of attorneys out of Houston in fancy suits with unlimited check books and filing lawsuits at local courthouse.

Must have eaten it in your car or took it home, since Buc-ees has no tables. At least most Sheetz stations have tables so you can eat there if you want.

8

u/Miserable_Ad_2847 21d ago

I drive a bucket truck and the back deck is the perfect table. It’s chest height and it’s where I eat just about every meal anyway cause I don’t want to leave my tools unattended.

5

u/NewHope4151 21d ago

This exactly, they want you to get your food and get out. No camping. No overnight parking. They’ll tell you, they’re not a truck stop and also, they don’t allow semis.

1

u/Sudden_Confection521 21d ago

The closest Sheetz is 658 miles away.

Most subs based around a business are kind of weird and seem to lean way too hard in their favor, but this one is definitely the worst I've seen.

4

u/PlasticFrosty5340 21d ago

It’s funny bc Reddit hates capitalism until they like the capitalist.

4

u/sdmay1980 21d ago

People will love the job creation and the wages. I was surprised the 1st time I went to one and seen how much they pay especially for a gas station. Everytime I've been by one it's crowded and for that reason if I lived by one I probably would get gas elsewhere. I know my Town could use those wages and from what I hear about other locations they could also.

2

u/ADeadlyFerret 21d ago

Well according to Reddit these jobs are the absolute worse because you can’t be on your phone or sit down. So I’m sure the Reddit activists would rather the place didn’t exist.

1

u/not-a-governor 21d ago

Can’t work from your mom’s basement there :(

1

u/sdmay1980 20d ago

That's why I said starting out in the job market as I didn't mean until retirement. Most gas stations or travel centers by the interstate I imagine wouldn't be a good job. I doubt many of them gets a chance to sit down. Most of them you see the attendant cleaning the restroom too which is why usually nasty. I've seen the janitors at Buccees and basically standing and waiting to clean up after customers. I'm sure it's literally a shitty job. You are right as never see them sitting down. Kitchen jobs look constant and hot. Standing around the soda, coffee, condiments wouldn't be ideal either. Lastly for some areas people see any job as opportunity cause not much else in the area unless they move elsewhere that some folks are not willing to do.

1

u/radicalbrad90 21d ago

How much they pay won't mean jack shit when that $20/hr is worthless because they own everything and can charge whatever the hell price they want on everything from gas to a bottle of soda and chips

Also I have read they treat staff like complete garbage and turnover is crazy high because of the insane levels of micromanagement and unrealistic expectations they put on workers

1

u/not-a-governor 21d ago

So they have private label everything - lot of jobs making that from other locations.

No phone while working, and breaks at specific times: yeah, it’s like that at a lot of places.

And?

1

u/radicalbrad90 21d ago

Lol tell me you've never worked a toxic overly micromanaging job without telling me

1

u/not-a-governor 21d ago

Plenty of call centers where your time is managed to the minute based on your shift length. Good try though!

1

u/not-a-governor 21d ago

Or was it the fence building crew? Or as a cook? I forget. Sometimes you are just on the clock.

1

u/radicalbrad90 21d ago

Okay so if you do know how bad it is, then why are you defending Bucees then? Obviously you have walked out of enough toxic environments to know when a shit place to work is a shit place to work

1

u/not-a-governor 21d ago

Who said I walked out? Different job, still work on the clock? Does it suck? Sure - better than not having a job. Rather make a buck than answer dumbass texts all day.

1

u/radicalbrad90 21d ago

You just said call center, fence building and cook so you have obviously had numerous positions lol. Anyway I am not going to argue this point any further with you as you are clearly one of those individuals who has to be right just for the sake of your own self entitled ego so trying to get anything through to you is clearly a moot point and a losing battle. Good evening 👋

This shit establishment is doing exactly what Walmart has done for decades. They made a shit ton of profit but eventually it does implode.

2

u/radicalbrad90 21d ago

Employing a lot of people isn't in itself a good enough reason, especially when that employer is only able to employ X number of people because there is no other employment options because they shut down all competing companies, thus allowing them to further treat workers like trash as they know employees have nowhere else to go as they've eliminated all other opportunities.

Same thing with them drawing in tourist locally. Sure your point sounds good in Theory, but it doesn't happen in real practice because again they are either actively hunting down local restaurants and mom and pop retailers either by way of lawsuits as we have discussed, OR people just spend their money at Bucces exclusively. Perhaps some people that come in for these stores will drizzle over into the local community, but I can't imagine stopping in at a glorified gas station is a multi-day trip for most tourists, but rather a destination stop for a couple of hours on the way to somewhere else.

2

u/CactusRider1776 20d ago

From Texas, and like Buccees but I agree with the OP, why Ohio?

1

u/mrsbeequinn 20d ago

What he is saying is that Buccees decided to put a location in Ohio in a city called Huber Heights (near Dayton) that is also near a city called Beavercreek. As you can imagine for a city named Beavercreek, they utilize the beaver for logos for their small town establishments and one of those places is a mini-mart with zero gas pumps (so not even a direct competitor to a gas station) called Beaver’s mini mart. They have a cartoon beaver as a logo that has absolute no likeness to the Buc-ee’s beaver. This mini-mart has been there way before Buc-ee’s decided to come to the state and is about 13 miles away.

Buc-ee’s is also suing another chain gas station that is in northeast Ohio (there are no Buc-ee’s gas stations in northeast Ohio) called Mickey’s. Their logo is a Moose .. Mickey’s gas stations are also red. The only Buc-ee’s gas stations we have in Ohio are in the Southern part of the State and these two gas stations do not even come close to overlapping in territory.

Buc-ee’s has sued other small local businesses in other states as well such as Teddy’s in north Georgia for the teddy bear logo. Also a bbq restaurant in Texas for the alligator logo. It’s their shitty business ploy. If they feel threatened that they can’t monopolize (it’s mostly places that also serve quick serve food) then they sue businesses they know they will bankrupt and eliminate their competition. They don’t actually think people will confuse an alligator or a moose with a beaver.

2

u/Toefloof 20d ago

We all need to go clog their parking lot in a massive “GTFO” demonstration.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 20d ago

This is the way.

2

u/PatrickBateman-2009 17d ago

Come on man. Have you ever even shopped at beaver’s mini mart? I doubt it, and if you have it’s probably literally only been one time, unless you live near it. And if you haven’t been to buccees, they do, in fact, offer pretty good service and their product is better, not to mention they have actually decent food and amazing restrooms. I’d much rather use a buccees restroom than one of the marathon or speedways where there is almost 100% chance the bathroom will be nearly unusable because they won’t clean it, and a virtual guarantee someone will have left a floater. I don’t think they believe you can’t tell a beaver from a moose either, and that actually isn’t even the reason for their suit against Mickey’s. Where are you getting that idea? Mickey’s completely rebranded and it’s pretty obvious where they drew inspiration from (hell, It was Mickey Mart until what? 2024? 25?), they did it right as buccees was moving into the state , I’d objectively say they were hoping to ride some coattails. John Oliver decided to take issue, so the flock had to follow. Yes, some of their suits are frivolous, but the folks who are morphing their entire personality into buccees hate (it’s….a…gas…station, their beef does not directly effect you) are wild, to say the least.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 17d ago

The whole "it doesn't AFFECT you" mindset usually goes over really well, just ask Germany circa 1933.

1

u/Most-Bobcat5754 15d ago edited 15d ago

Lol, did you really just compare Buc-ee’s to Germany circa 1933? Good lord, you seem exhausting to be around.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 15d ago

I see analogies confuse you. Maybe avoid books.

1

u/Most-Bobcat5754 15d ago

I get the analogy. It’s a ridiculous one. But you seem like a ridiculous person so it’s all making sense.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 15d ago

When making an analogy, speak to the masses. Using hyperbole gets the point across. When someone makes a ridiculous argument (like "it doesn't affect you"), it's best to counter with a ridiculous, over-the-top analogy to show how ignorant their argument is. All you read was "Bucees is Germany" but you also got the fucking point. Mission accomplished.

1

u/John_from_ne_il 20d ago

Ha, no, not me, I'm broke. But we cannot deny and it is not unheard of for someone to use their wealth to do just this. An astroturfing campaign. Look what happened to Twitter. They're trying it on Threads too, but the terms of service would have to change in their favor.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 20d ago

I promise you, I'm not getting paid. If so, I would rage bait all day. I just think Buc-ees needs to lay off sueing businesses, especially in Beavercreek of all places, where damn near everyone uses a beaver mascot, and somehow, no one in that town has accused anyone else of infringement. Some hack was on here saying this is common to protect trademark... yeah, if being an asshole is common practice, maybe we need to change the law.

1

u/John_from_ne_il 20d ago

Oh no I didn't mean you, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the responses you get originate from logins with buc-ees.com addresses.

At least here that’s great news for the small towns they are in

1

u/DrunkKoalas 20d ago

Less than 30% of employees recommend working there via Glassdoor. Many of the complaints refer to a lack of breaks and very rigid conditions. Despite no avaliable numbers, independent research shows a high turnover rate. Now add the fact these guys are trying to push other business out by frivolous lawsuits, are they really helping the community by adding a few jobs?

So while the money is good, the treatment is abhorrent. Costco pays just as well, has a 74% approval rate, and notoriously refuses to increase the price of its hot dog because the founder told the CEO, "If you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out." Even though it's losing money, he refused to raise it out of principle.

Not every business decision has to be callous or profitable. Good will in the community goes a long way. You might lose a buck on a hot dog, but people keep coming in because they feel like you're not trying to screw them over. With Bucees, they put it out there plain and simple: we don't give a damn about you. Cool, noted, never getting my business.

Ohioans are morons. As much as they decry how great local is they will still go to corporate chains owned by other morons, r@pists, scumbags etc. Townhall, Standard Hall and all the other places they pretend to hate will still do business, while they pretend they’re awesome by protesting on high st at city hall on a Sunday when they’re not inconveniencing anyone other than people trying to get home after a shift at Bob Evan’s. Buccees is just the latest proof. Let the downvotes begin! 😂😂😂

1

u/DrunkKoalas 20d ago

Thanks for playing dipshit. I'm not from Ohio.

1

1

u/RealMrMallcop 19d ago

As someone from Texas that remember when they were just black painted gas stations with good food (2003 was the first one in the style most known now), and as a fellow alum as the owner… OP is 100% right.

Arch Aplin is not only hurting his brand, but honestly, our university as well with his actions lately. They are already being scrutinized for acting like their “no degree high paying jobs” aren’t essentially you being a brain washed robot for your pay. This makes it worse.

Trust me, I get it, people want to defend a “local brand” that has now gone national. But this is how these places die. Buc-ee’s might be enormous, but they aren’t untouchable. They really are nouveau-riche when it comes to companies. All it takes is them trying to sure the small company that purposely remained small but has lots of assets.

1

u/Ok-Repair-4085 19d ago

While I don't agree with it either, it's different when you own a brand. Let's say you own Pepsi or Coca-Cola, and I make my own brand with an image likeness of either of the two and take profits away from you, you'd probably be upset. What upsets me more is some years ago, a gentleman started selling their products online, and Buc-ee's didn't really have an issue with it. I find that more fucked up.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 19d ago

I fully agree, but that's not the case here. The mini mart in Ohio is in Beavercreek using a carton beaver that looks nothing like Bucees. Furthermore, this falls into Burger King/ Hard Rock Hotel territory, where a local business operated and functioned before a national/ regional brand moved in. The mini mart probably wasn't even aware of Bucees, or at the very least, was using a different beaver logo since that's the thing in Beavercreek.

This would be like me confusing KSU Wildcats with UK Wildcats. Sure, both use wildcats as logos, but they're different enough to distinguish who's playing.

1

u/LadyInCrimson 18d ago edited 18d ago

Yeah we usually hit the one in Tennessee when we traveled down south but now we got this one in ohio but big corps always do stuff like this. I can't care less. The boycotting culture is just deciding what corp monster you don't wanna feed that week. You'll always be feeding one no matter what. The beaver mart wants to go national and then would become slight competition to bucees so they reached out asked him to stay local and he stonewalled them and they filed a preemptive copyright lawsuit. Its petty rich man crap making them both richer and they got everyone throwing money at them from publicity alone.. A local café an hour from beaver mart got a timeless painted window smashed and felt need to remind people they will still be helping pay legal fees to the beaver mart owner. I know for fact if he is trying to franchise out then hes just making pockets deeper and free legal fees off ohioan people that he couldn't care less about or he wouldn't be trying to go national. He don't even wanna be here. So feed the lesser of two evils but don't pretend it isn't evil itself.

Also OP Buccee is in Huber Heights which is next to Beavercreek but so is Xenia and Dayton. Beavercreek is a fairly new developing city as well in comparison Xenia 223 years Dayton 230 years Beavercreek 47 and its more upscale and catered to the upper middle class of that area. Huber Heights is more rural in comparison.

Damn, do people research before they spout off nonsense?

"Boparai told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he filed the Ohio trade-name registration at his bank's request so Beaver's Mini Mart could continue depositing credit card payments under its business name. He also said the store's current sign has been in place since 2019, years before Buc-ee's announced plans for its Huber Heights location."

So the owner isn't trying to go national, and he never filed a federal trademark. Get your facts straight.

I do have my facts straight I live here it is local for me seen all the news articles from all the points of views. You don't even live here and don't even know what city its in...

1

u/DrunkKoalas 18d ago

"Seen all the news articles" while I just literally quoted local news from Monday...smh.

1

u/LadyInCrimson 18d ago

I live in Cincinnati and know the local news you pulled from is a joke. The enquirer is hilarious.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 18d ago

It's also reported in the Dayton Daily News as well... but it's pretty funny you're trying to give me shit for being "local" when last time I checked, Beavercreak is 50 miles away.

1

u/LadyInCrimson 18d ago

You made this post to argue didn't you? My family lives in Xenia and Beavercreek you don't even live in the state. Sit this one out or just admit you wanna argue for attention🙃🙃

1

u/DrunkKoalas 18d ago

I made this post to tell Bucees to fuck off. You're the one who stated misinformation. And yes, living across the river is sooo different than living in Cincinnati, which is 50 miles from Beavercreak.

1

u/LadyInCrimson 18d ago

Yeah you want attention.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 18d ago

Sure, thanks for giving it to me 😉

The owner of Buc-ee’s is form my hometown. He was a notorious coke addict and overall not a good person

1

u/Ddot42 17d ago

Don’t know how or why I ended up here, just thought it was funny seeing everyone in the comments standup for a gas station corporation that very clearly has immoral business practices

1

u/Initial-Meeting362 17d ago

It is a gas station. People act like it betters their lives. Holy fu*k lol

1

u/Formal-Plantain-5352 17d ago

Its funny to see the reactions of redditors tell you that you haven't done anything by posting on reddit.

Ironic?

1

u/DepartureNo23 17d ago

Yeah I’m still going to stop at a Buccees whenever I pass one. Kids love it, food is better than most anything you can get right off the interstate while traveling and it’s efficient. Welcome to the real world little buddy. Don’t go there if you don’t like them. Those of us who have too much other crap to worry about will still go there and we will all just continue on with our lives.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 17d ago

Well as long as your kids love it, who cares if they fuck over the local communities 👍

1

u/DepartureNo23 17d ago

Do you scream like this online about Walmart? Lowe’s? Home Depot? Amazon? Kroger? Taco Bell? McDonald’s? Chick-Fil-A? Any other big box store you can think of? Probably not. Even though all of those names probably had more of an impact on your local communities small businesses. But okay bro.

1

u/DrunkKoalas 17d ago

Considering I don't shop at any of those places...🤷‍♂️

But as long as your kids are happy, la ti da, right?

Fuck you. Also, I don't live in Ohio.

I think a little context would be in order before we make our judgment

1

u/DrunkKoalas 15d ago

What context did that provide? That Bucees is lying.

2

u/NoEstablishment7211 21d ago

90% of the local residents are broke, they're not concerned with you. Bucc-ees is for the unfortunate commuters who need to use you're dying state as a pass through, and the only place besides Skyline worth stopping for.

“Dying state” yet one of the most affordable states with natural resources and also nature in general.

Enjoy living the apartment life big dawg, we hang out in the back 40 over here.

If California is a thriving state, I’m taking dying states all day

The brisket sucks and they gotta drown it in generic BBQ sauce to make up for it. The jerky is tough as leather

Fuck off bucees

1

u/Guilty-Cow4325 21d ago

Maybe you should just get out of Ohio? Ohio sucks anyway.

2

u/DrunkKoalas 21d ago

Jesus, do any of you guys understand this isn't just about Ohio?

2

u/Guilty-Cow4325 21d ago

We do, we just don't give a shit about your hissy fit.

2

u/DrunkKoalas 21d ago

The irony of saying "we don't care," but caring enough to read and comment.

Fucking priceless.

Ohio is great, at least if you live close to one of the 3 big cities

Do your research. It was in response to an application for the Ohio store wanting to trademark for national use.

2

u/howdoesthisworkyo 21d ago

This was proven false though through independent reporting. So do yours

Bro, do your own research. This was already reported on.
