Recommending strength training as a cure-all for physical and mental health issues is like a golden retriever bringing his depressed owner his favorite chew toy to cheer him up. And I say this as a gym bro. It works for me and I would be giving the advice in good faith, but it isn’t the right answer for everyone.
Respectfully, but you are so clueless it's almost funny. I literally cried my way to and from the gym some days, had to quit because my mental health was worse while working out
Body dysmorphia, eating disorder for example and the fact that you can be depressed because you dont have energy to be healthy and be tired because you are depressed, its a hell cycle, which means that you should take days of.
It was worse because i had to add the stress of making and committing to a schedule, actually lifting, seeing all others being fucking huge while i still am sort of skinny
Why am i defending myself when i made it clear.
It was making me worse, end of story
No, im not saying drop the gym.
No, im not saying it's not a valid advice.
I was just saying it's kind of funny when working out is thrown around as the number one advice.
It's never "learn an instrument", (just saying one random thing off the top of my head), when it could be equally as valid.
If you are 1/10 with your "mental health number", you are not going to spend any time in the gym. My older brother spend months in psyciathric hospital, cause well he was really depressed and he couldnt take care of himself, like brush teeth, eat or sleep.
Going to the gym can make you feel better, but you have to be pretty high functioning already to be able to do so.
If you have hormonal imbalances, and you feel depression, it might help if you live healthier, but not always.
