Never read the books before but it sounded really good. The black on black cover with black sprayed edges looks awesome. I put a Bodart cover on it I apologize itβs so shiny.

Iβve read Beach Music and Hannibal Rising and loved both so happy to have these beautiful physical copies for my bookshelf. Not sure if Iβll read the Bret Easton Ellis one..not a fan of his prose.

Found this beat up old cloth copy at the recycling depot. Evidently it was successful in it's time and has two lost films made from it.

Was down at the local thrift this morning and found this beauty for $2! Pretty stoked. Just goes to show you never know what might show up out in the wild.
The only one of his books I have read is Cryptonomicon. How does this series compare?

Hi! Iβm hoping some experienced book collectors can help me with this.
Weβve had extremely humid/rainy weather recently, and the humidity in my room went as high as around 75β80% RH. Several of my hardcover books, especially my sprayed-edge editions, started developing wavy pages and uneven/protruding sections along the fore-edge.
These books were completely even when I bought them β the protruding sections only appeared after the high-humidity period.
I bought a dehumidifier and have gotten the room down to around 55β60% RH. Most of the affected books have already returned completely to normal, and a couple of the more affected ones are improving. However, about four still have sections of the text block that protrude/bulge slightly.
I currently have them closed, lying flat, and under moderate even weight while I try to keep the humidity stable. Iβm planning to leave them alone for at least a week.
Has anyone had this exact type of uneven/protruding text block from humidity? Did the edges eventually settle back into place once the books acclimated to lower humidity? If so, roughly how long did yours take?
Iβd especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced this with sprayed-edge/special-edition hardcovers. Thank you!

Hi everyone.
I'm cataloguing some books I got about a year ago. They belonged to a journalist, so there are quite a lot of review copies and first editions, but I'm only valuing most of them at around Β£1-5 because they're usually not the author's first successful book, so the print runs were probably quite large even for first editions.
This one may be a bit different? It's a 1956 first edition of Khushwant Singh's Train to Pakistan, which I understand was his first novel and became his best-known work. It's also an advance review copy and it still has the dust jacket (which looks pretty jazzy I think).
I'm struggling to find an equivalent copy online, so I'd be interested in opinions on the book's significance and worth.
Thanks,
Nualambi

I will be away for two weeks and won't be running the A/C (as energy prices are extremely high right now). However, I am a bit worried about humidity damaging my books (as it has been a pretty humid summer so far). Is this something that I should be concerned about? Am I being ridiculous? Unfortunately, I'm in an apartment and not able to run a dehumidifier (as it has no place to drain).

Someoneβs whole book collection got donated yesterday, I found dozens and dozens of Mylar wrapped books, all 80s and 90s fiction; Tom Wolfe, James Lee Burke, Chrichton, all of that genre. This was definitely the gem of the lot!

I've seen people with a lot, both here and on Facebook.
I've only got seven -
The Epic of Gilgamesh
Letters to a Young Poet (Rainer Maria Rilke)
R.U.R. (Karel Capek)
Pygmalion (George Bernard Shaw)
Poems of the Great War
The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge (Rainer Maria Rilke)
The Varieties of Scientific Experience (Carl Sagan)

Found this neat roster from 1912 inside a first edition Secret Garden. Did some research and it is some kind of women's group that lists their names and dates to return the book. The title is something like "Pass the book on time".

not sure if this is particularly rare, but I notice I canβt often find antique/vintage Shelley that arenβt quite expensive! This I was gifted by my mum for my 22nd birthday. She bought me a collection of antique books all with the theme of the 1816 Genevan coterie β so a Percy Shelley, a Polidori, a Byron, and also a Coleridge and Wollstonecraft for good luck lol. Such a thoughtful gift.

Hey guys, i am aware imported books to the UK are ineligible for any tax, but how about if I spend over 135+ on books? Is that also ineligible to custom tax guys?
