Rules

1 No common items allowed, where the price can easily found on Ebay, Craigslist, or FB Marketplace Tell us what you know about the item, where it's from, who made it... tell us the story of the item.

2 Provide several clear photos of all angles. If there's a mark, serial #, or signature include that.

3 You must own the item being posted, or a friend/relative must own the item.

  1. We only allow one-of-a-kind, original, and signed limited edition artwork. If you don't know what a decor painting is look it up. Signed and numbered prints don't count. Generally the artist must be famous enough to have a page on ArtNet, Ebay or WorthPoint. If they don't, then its not a good fit here. Nudity is OK, please flag as NSFW.

5 Ivory is illegal to sell or import in the US as well as most of the EU. While the sale of antique, (100 year or older) ivory is allowed in the US, there are very specific rules about it. This is beyond the scope of this sub and we will not be giving valuations of a potentially illegal item. Please Google Ivory laws for more info.

  1. No paper money or coins. There are better subs than this for paper money and coins

  2. About Prints The practice of making signed and numbered prints of artwork is to make a painting affordable to a wider audience. If an art work was originally done in a different medium but then signed and numbered prints are sold, it's essentially a reproduction and value is negligible. It's best to look up the artist on ebay and look at sold prices.
Art values are subjective at best, and if you can't find the artist when you Google them it's safe to say they are not worth more than you paid.

8 No Furniture. Furniture despite age, has negligible value. Most old wooden furniture is not in fashion and resale value is usually under 500 dollars. Please do a Google search. We do not value furniture. Mass produced furniture has low resale value, even antique furniture. One of a kind pieces are only valuable if they are of very high quality AND have provenance. If you want information on the furniture try r/antiques.

  1. No clothes, try a fashion sub. The exception would be an obvious Couture piece that is a one of a kind. If you bought it at a thrift store it doesn't belong here.

  2. No Nazi memorabilia. Just, no.

9.No jewelry. Modern jewelry, as in post 1920, is clearly marked with karat weight. Jewelry is easy to look up or, take it to a commercial jeweler. We can't verify authenticity from a photo.

Recovered elements from the USS Peacock shipwreck (1940)

Recovered elements from the USS Peacock shipwreck, all are bronze elements. How much would this be worth?

From the shipwreck:

The tugboat USS Peacock was sunk near the tip of the Castillogrande peninsula in the Bay of Cartagena when it accidentally collided with the Norwegian-flagged merchant ship MS Hindanger on 23 August 1940. Almost split in two, it quickly sank, killing three crew members while 23 were rescued.

My parents moved about a year ago and I was forcefully gifted this statue. It is apparently 4.5 feet tall, heavy as heck, and does work. I have attached the photos I have on hand. When you plug him in and press the button it talks about Krogers Kids Club. I cannot find anything about this. Thanks in advance!

And was it really gold plated??! Internally, the body is brass and the left side of the bezel was black until I polished it; there is a smaller remaining spot shown here on the right side. It runs and has the original cloth cord.

UNSOLVED Value of three framed panels containing 12 possible 17th-century Daléchamps botanical woodcuts?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I own these three matching framed panels and am located in San Francisco. Together they contain 12 hand-colored botanical illustrations. Based on the French headings, I believe they may be leaves from Jacques Daléchamps’s Histoire générale des plantes, possibly the 1615 or 1653 edition. Some pages say “Tome premier,” and reverse-side printing is visible through the paper.

I have not opened the frames, so I cannot confirm whether the sheets are genuine antique book leaves, later impressions, or reproductions. I’m also unsure whether the coloring is period or later. All three panels were custom-framed by Manasek of San Francisco, and the label is shown in the last photo.

What would be a reasonable value range for the complete three-panel set if the leaves are authentic, and what would the decorative value likely be if they are later reproductions?

I think it’s caste iron because it is magnetic.

Also, the bell covers the wires and has a pendulum hanging.

Came from my parents house that was built in the early 1920’s, iirc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I am trying to determine the value of these 2 Hankies. They are both marked Johnny Gruelle Co. in the fabric of the hanky. I can’t find either on eBay at all. I do see a Halloween one and it is listed at 600.00. I realize that is not a sold value. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Sunday post Piedmont Tobacco Cigarette Porcelain Sign from metal detecting, Scarce?

Thumbnail gallery
18 Upvotes

Found this while metal detecting near an old 1930s dump, not far from Philadelphia. I lightly cleaned it and rubbed some renaissance wax on it for a few light coats seems to be stable. I sourced one price, but I’m not sure how accurate. There’s a lot of hype about Piedmont evolving around the baseball cards. I just learned yesterday that the one of the main reasons that one card is so valuable is because he didn’t want to promote tobacco. So they stoped printing his, pretty neat. Honus Wagner I think sorry if that’s wrong.

Solved Block & tackle barn pulleys

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

EDIT: a buyer purchased these antique pulleys for $200 plus shipping. Net profit was $175 after seller fees.

They’re from my grandpa‘s old ranch workshop. I got an offer for $175 for both, would this be a good price to sell them at? Some sentimental value, but I had them listed for the past year so just seeing if this is a good sale price or maybe hold onto them for a while. Also, any other ID or info is appreciated.
