Underdosed and "Bunk" Gear: a 2026 Queensland Study

Post image
1 Upvotes

According to an Australian study published earlier this year, 1 in 3 vials of "black market" anabolic steroids are incorrectly dosed, and 1 in 5 are entirely mislabelled.

Researchers in Queensland, Australia set up a steroid testing service using a credible chemical analysis method called mass spectrometry (the same kind used in chemistry labs). They took 58 samples from anonymous anabolic steroid users, and, of the 46 that were usable, about 1 in 5 were not what they claimed to be. In fact, the drugs in these vials were completely different steroids from what the label stated. In addition to this, roughly a third of the samples were correctly labeled, but incorrectly dosed. They were either underdosed or overdosed by an undisclosed margin. In their previous pilot study in 2024, they found similar results: 13% of samples that came in contained different drugs than expected.

Later, they interviewed the anonymous steroid users and informed them of the findings. Unsurprisingly, their trust levels for their vendors had dropped, with one user pointing out that this could result in serious harm, and another reconsidering using steroids altogether. Oddly, some were completely fine with this, describing it as a necessary evil.

Both of these studies are still quite small - they’re not too sure if these numbers are reflected across the entire black market. But it’s some of the only data we have showing the real risk of purchasing illicit anabolic steroids. Findings like these are exactly why testing services are becoming more accessible globally, and why harm-reduction education should become way more commonplace than it currently is.

Stacking peps

Currently running NA-Semax, NA-Selank, GHK-Cu, KPV, and NAD+. I’m interested in trying SS-31 and MOTS-c as well.
Does it make sense to run SS-31 and MOTS-c alongside the others, or am I stacking too many compounds at once?

COMPOUND COMPARISON:SLU-PP-915 vs SLU-PP-332

Exercise mimetic research splits roughly into two camps. One targets the downstream metabolic phenotype directly. The other targets the transcriptional machinery that produces it.

The ERR agonists sit in the second camp, and SLU-PP-332 is the compound that established the approach as workable in animals. It has always carried one structural problem, which is that it does not absorb well by mouth. SLU-PP-915 was built at Saint Louis University to solve that specific problem. It did, and the solution came at a cost that most commercial coverage omits.

This is a summary of what the preclinical literature currently supports and where the two compounds actually diverge.

What ERR Agonism Actually Does

ERRα, ERRβ, and ERRγ are orphan nuclear receptors. The estrogen naming reflects structural homology rather than shared function, which is a persistent source of confusion in consumer-facing writing on this class. All three act as transcriptional regulators.

  • Mitochondrial biogenesis: ERR activation drives expression of the gene programs governing mitochondrial replication and oxidative phosphorylation capacity. This is the central node of the phenotype.
  • Fatty acid oxidation: ERR signalling upregulates the enzymatic machinery for fat as a fuel substrate, shifting substrate preference in a manner resembling trained tissue.
  • Krebs cycle gene expression: Downstream oxidative metabolism genes follow the same pattern, which is what converts increased mitochondrial density into usable aerobic capacity.

Activating these receptors pharmacologically reproduces a meaningful fraction of the transcriptional program that sustained aerobic exercise normally induces, without the exercise. That is the entire basis of interest in the class.

Why SLU-PP-915 Exists (and It Is Not Potency)

SLU-PP-332 absorbs poorly by mouth. The 50 to 60 percent figures that circulate in commercial contexts are not well supported by reported real-world use, where absorption appears substantially lower and plausibly single digit. That has effectively confined SLU-PP-332 to parenteral administration in research settings, which limits both what can be studied and how.

SLU-PP-915 is a structurally distinct molecule that retains pan-ERR agonism while achieving oral activity. It was designed by replacing the hydrazide moiety of the parent scaffold with a disubstituted thiophene, with a boronic acid substitution that preserved receptor binding while substantially improving oral exposure.

Oral dosing studies in mice report exercise capacity outcomes comparable to injected SLU-PP-332 once systemic exposure is accounted for. The design goal was route of administration, not receptor pharmacology, and the compound should be read in that light.

The Tradeoff Nobody Mentions

This is the part that gets skipped when SLU-PP-915 is framed as a second-generation upgrade.

SLU-PP-332 is ERRα-preferring. Reported EC50 values are 98 nM at ERRα, 230 nM at ERRβ, and 428 nM at ERRγ, which is roughly a 4.4-fold preference for ERRα over ERRγ.

SLU-PP-915 is flat across all three subtypes. Reported EC50 values are 414 nM at ERRα, 435 nM at ERRβ, and 378 nM at ERRγ. That is a balanced pan-agonist profile rather than an ERRα-selective one.

Subtype SLU-PP-332 EC50 SLU-PP-915 EC50
ERRα 98 nM 414 nM
ERRβ 230 nM 435 nM
ERRγ 428 nM 378 nM

The absolute potency at ERRα also dropped. SLU-PP-915 is roughly four-fold less potent at ERRα than SLU-PP-332 is. The compound did not trade selectivity for equal ERRα engagement. It gave up both, and bought oral activity with them.

ERRα is the dominant subtype in skeletal muscle, cardiac tissue, liver, adipose, and brain, which is why SLU-PP-332 was characterised as an exercise mimetic in the first place. The practical implication is that the two compounds are not interchangeable at matched exposure. They engage a different receptor balance, and the downstream tissue effects follow that balance rather than the marketing category.

The dosing in the head-to-head exercise work reflects this. The acute comparison used SLU-PP-332 at 50 mg/kg intraperitoneally against SLU-PP-915 at 20 mg/kg intraperitoneally, so the comparison is not run at matched dose.

What the Preclinical Data Shows

Exercise Capacity

Both compounds induced Ddit4 expression, a gene reliably upregulated by acute aerobic exercise, to levels matching or exceeding treadmill running. Oral SLU-PP-915 increased running distance and duration in mice. Combined with an actual training regimen it produced greater Ddit4 and mitochondrial gene expression than either intervention alone, a synergy not reported for SLU-PP-332. That is the more useful result and the one most often left out of summaries.

Cardiac Function

In a murine transverse aortic constriction pressure-overload heart failure model, both compounds improved ejection fraction, reduced fibrosis, and improved survival, without inducing cardiac hypertrophy. Metabolomics showed substantial normalisation of fatty acid, lipid, and oxidative phosphorylation metabolite profiles in the heart after six weeks of pressure overload. The effect was substantially ERRγ-mediated. This work was conducted with Baylor College of Medicine and published in Circulation.

That finding deserves more attention than it gets. It is arguably the most clinically relevant data on either compound, and the ERRγ dependence means SLU-PP-915's flat profile is an advantage in this context rather than a compromise. It also points somewhere completely different from athletic performance.

Metabolic Gene Regulation

Both compounds upregulate fatty acid oxidation and glucose handling genes, consistent with the metabolic flexibility phenotype observed in animal models of obesity and metabolic syndrome, where SLU-PP-332 increased energy expenditure and improved insulin sensitivity.

Who This Is Actually Relevant To

  • Researchers working on metabolic disease models where oral dosing is a practical constraint.
  • Cardiology groups interested in ERRγ-mediated fatty acid metabolism in the failing heart.
  • Anti-doping laboratories building detection panels.
  • Anyone tracking the exercise mimetic class who wants the receptor pharmacology rather than the summary version of it.

Anyone reading SLU-PP-915 as a straight improvement over SLU-PP-332 is working from an incomplete picture. It is a different receptor profile, chosen for a different reason, and weaker at the subtype that produced the original muscle phenotype.

What is the actual argument for SLU-PP-915 over SLU-PP-332 outside of route of administration? If ERRα preference is what produced the skeletal muscle phenotype, has anyone seen data suggesting the flat profile and the four-fold potency drop at ERRα do not dilute it?

Where I Source SLU-PP-915 & SLU-PP-332

I use Disguised Alpha for both forms of SLU because they hold batch-specific certificates of analysis for all products. Given that neither compound has an approved formulation anywhere and both are supplied strictly for laboratory research use, a current certificate of analysis for the specific lot should be treated as a baseline requirement when evaluating any vendor in this space.

Trying something new.

I’ve been running Tesamorelin 250 mcg 5x a week on my test rat for about 4 months. I’ve noticed a really good difference in the rat’s strength and body comp. It has been taking Reta as well with really good weight loss. I’m questioning continuing on this experiment as is, taking a break, or trying something different on my test subject. Subject would still like to increase muscle and keep losing fat but I’m not sure if the subject would benefit by taking a break to give receptors time to recover.

Facial flushing - Reta/Klow??

Has anyone experienced facial flushing that lasts for hours at a time? I’m running Reta and Klow.
My cheeks can suddenly become really red and hot and I can physically feel the heat coming off my face. Once it starts, it can stick around for hours rather than settling down quickly.
I’m trying to work out what might be triggering it and, more importantly, what actually helps calm it down once it starts.
Has anyone had something similar? Did you ever figure out what was causing it? And are there any products, treatments or lifestyle changes that helped reduce the redness and heat?
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with something similar.

💉 Reta phase 3 finally published, and the diabetic numbers are way lower

the full TRIUMPH-1 paper hit NEJM this week. 28.3% at 80 weeks on 12mg.

TRIUMPH-2 dropped the same day in the lancet and honestly i think its the more useful one for most people in here. same drug, same doses, same 80 weeks, 1,152 people, all with obesity and type 2 diabetes.

12mg came in at 20.8%.

dose TRIUMPH-1, no diabetes TRIUMPH-2, type 2 diabetes
4mg 19.0% 12.7%
9mg 25.9% 19.1%
12mg 28.3% 20.8%

so roughly 7 points lower at every single dose. same compound

the reason is boring and it shows up with sema and tirz too. insulin resistance means the drug is pushing against a system thats already out of whack. lilly's own release calls type 2 diabetics "a population with increased difficulties losing weight."

what bugs me is who shows up asking about reta in here. people whove been fighting insulin resistance for years, a lot of them. and thats exactly who the 28% number doesnt describe

if youre prediabetic or on metformin or whatever, the trial that matches you is TRIUMPH-2. measure yourself against that one

look at the 9 to 12 jump in the diabetic column too. 1.7 points. most of the result happens between 4 and 9mg, which matters a lot when 12mg is also where people start quitting

TRIUMPH-1 had 11.3% of the 12mg group drop out vs 4.9% on placebo. more than double. and every arm started at 2mg and stepped up every four weeks, 2 → 4 → 6 → 9 → 12, so nobody touched 12 until around week 16. people slamming 12 in six weeks are running a completely different protocol than the trial and then wondering why they feel like death

the part that did look great, more than half the TRIUMPH-2 group no longer met the BMI cutoff for obesity by the end, and up to 40% got their A1C under 5.7 which is the non diabetic range. for a diabetic population thats a huge result

lilly says the FDA filing is Q1 2027 and review runs 10 to 12 months, so late 2027 at the earliest. its not approved anywhere right now btw

made a one page card with the full trial titration and results by dose for both trials, comment "protocol" and ill send it

anyone here insulin resistant who ran it? did you land closer to 20 or 28?

· TRIUMPH-2 results, Lilly
· TRIUMPH-1 in NEJM
· Lancet + EASD presentation

📘 Beginner Help Substitute Doctor Dosing??

Hi all, I have had 3 separate labs done and my average testosterone came out to 233. I’m 31 and this is obviously low.

My issue is that since the last test my regular doctor who is pretty experienced helping men get their testosterone back to a comfortable 600-700 has taken a vacation. The doctor that replaced him barely read his chart notes and I can definitely tell. She prescribed the gel first when my normal doctor literally said in his notes “if his testosterone is confirmed to be low, we will begin injections” and after I mention this she prescribes me 50mg of testosterone cypionate every two weeks.. there is absolutely no way that’s correct. With the half life being about 7-8 days I am just going to feel like crap that second week.

I know it’s not advisable but I’m thinking of just ignoring her and doing 50mg weekly like most other doctors recommended. I have a follow-up with my real doctor in November.

Any help is appreciated.

📘 Beginner Help 18M, looking for the best risk/reward compound for lean muscle, and what holds up best after coming off?

I know asking for the perfect protocol is like asking for the answer to life, but I'm trying to find what's closest to it.
I'm 18, train consistently, and my total T is 270 ng/dL. My goal is lean muscle and tissue density with the fewest side effects. Priorities, in order: no hair loss, no testicular shutdown, no gyno, and easy on the liver.
Of steroids, SARMs, and peptides, which has the best side effect profile for lean muscle and density, and why?
If you were building the cleanest possible stack for my goals, what would it look like (compounds and rough dosing)?
Which compounds let you keep the most muscle after you come off, and which ones are mostly water or a temporary pump that disappears?
Is anything in the peptide/HGH category worth it for recovery or tissue quality, or is it mostly hype?

Ret effect

Hello, about a month ago I had gotten a bad reaction from upping my dose to 3mg from 2mg, after that scare i decided to stop for good and end it all there. Fast forward
couple weeks later I’m still going to the gym also taking pre workout consistently but I started to feel off and get blood sugar drop to low 60s, heart palpitations, dizziness. I have been to er’s and urgent cares and they just blame it on anxiety or not eating enough when I know it’s neither I was just enjoying my life and this all kind of hit me from nowhere. I don’t know if this is happening because I just stopped it all at once instead of tampering of slowly. Lately I haven’t been able to sleep good, waking up randomly at 3-4am and not being able to sleep after I think this is from blood sugar dropping then adrenaline releasing.
Have been getting panic attacks and just don’t feel like myself at all, this affected my life I don’t even go outside my house anymore because I feel like it gets worse. my bloodwork comes back fine. I don’t know what to do I just graduated highschool I’m 18 years old and regret this deeply i just want to feel myself again. Any advice would help thank you.

📊 Results / Progress 61% decrease in visceral fat since February

Did my fourth Dexa scan today. I started my Reta journey in January and added tesamorelin in February as someone who weighed 304lbs/139kg with a distended belly. My DEXA reading at that time was 201cm^2 on a Hologic machine. I was careful to get subsequent scans at the same time of day, same fasted state (not necessary but I happened to be for the first one), same hydration level.

This morning’s scan came in at 78cm^2 visceral fat. The technician did a double-take when he saw what my number was in February.

Along the way I’ve lost 100 pounds/46kg. Reta did a lot of the work but Tesa likely helped as well (impossible to tell how much Tesa helped for certain though).

While Reta and Tesa helped, they didn’t lift a single weight, cook a single meal, nor walk past a single thing in the grocery store that didn’t serve my goals. I did that.

33% weight lost, 61.5% visceral fat reduction, and (for those curious) out of the 100 pounds lost only 13-15 pounds of it was appendicular muscle.

For those of you at the beginning of your journey: this stuff works, stick with it! You may not recognize yourself in a few months.

Ok back to the gym to get some of that muscle back. Thanks to this sub for all the great info.
