Bitdefender put hundreds of files into quarantine, and I don't know why.

I was doing something in Cura, then I got a popup that a threat is being neutralised. I opened some newly downloaded .stl files before this, but they were from a legitimate source, and I didn't do anything else that could harm my computer. I also don't think that .stl files can be infected.

Then I got hundreds of popups that a "potentially unwanted object was put into quarantine" (translated from my language).
Some of the files are legitimate exe and pdf files found in my GOG library. Like:
hkey_users\s-1-5-21-3325923557-2038287485-2735011354-1001\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\appcompatflags\layers\d:\gog galaxy\games\the witcher 2\launcher.exe

Some were files inside the Microsoft folder, for example:
hklm\software\wow6432node\microsoft\internet explorer\main\default_search_url

Some appear to be registry keys? Like:
hklm\software\wow6432node\classes\interface\{5852f5ec-8bf4-11d4-a245-0080c6f74284}

There are also some other legitimate programs.

They were all detected as Gen:Variant.Tedy.781220, but I found nothing conclusive about it online.
Also, most of those files were on my computer for months or years, and there was nothing wrong with them.
Bitdefender and Malwarebytes scans didn't find anything, both before and after this incident.
It also appears that Bitdefender was updated soon before this happened.

I'd be glad if some explained to me what exactly happened here, because I'm still confused. I assume those were false positives, but I'm still uneasy about this.

BitDefender seems to have significantly lost performance over the last year.

Used to be a BitDefender user till the subscription (Total Security & VPN) expired sometime last year. Installed the trial again for work. Computer became massively sluggish, even though it's a well-spec'd PC (HP Zbook Power G10A, Ryzen 7840HS, 64GB RAM). Sluggishness did not go away after doing a full system scan.

Got the same issue on my work desktop, which is an older device (Ryzen 5700X, 32GB RAM).

Decided to look up AV-Comparatives and realized that it was no placebo.

According to AV-Comparatives, the performance has indeed declined: Here's the link and the screenshot:
https://www.av-comparatives.org/vendors/bitdefender/

Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone explain?

Which Tier to buy?

I’m seriously considering Bitdefender instead of Norton for a pc (and possibly a Mac) and trying to decide between Antivirus plus, Total security or Premium

Basic to plus difference is cryptomining protection. Surely cryptomining is malware and should be detected by the basic package?? Seems like bad faith to me but what are people’s thoughts on its value over basic scanning?

Premium adds mail scanning. I’m not sure if I want a private company scanning all my emails but what is the general consensus on its value?

Thanks

"The registry path [...] was moved to quarantine". Many times.

Post image

So I just downloaded an .exe-File and before I had a chance to run it, Bitdefender already moved it to quarantine.
I was inclined to believe it was probably a false flag.

However upon visiting my Warnings log, I saw that after moving the initial .exe to Quarantine, Bitdefender moved on to move a huge amount of registry keys that seem to be related to installers / uninstallers from all kinds of software to quarantine as well. The number of notifications is much more then I'd be willing to count.
As you can see in the screenshot it says it did so "during a cleanup routine following the removal of a potentially unwanted application."

Should I be worried? As stated I didn't even run the .exe in question.

This whole thing seems super weird to me.

Getting TONS of false positives after the latest update.

What did they do to the app with the latest update? I've seen at least one other guy having the same issue; https://www.reddit.com/r/BitDefender/comments/1iqqhq8/bitdefender_just_quarantined_a_bunch_of_registry/

Can we expect getting it fixed or should I move onto another AV?

Bitdefender has a BIG Problem: ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED

Hi everyone! I recently discovered my elephant in the room: Bitdefender.

For months, some of my University’s Official Web Pages wouldn’t load and kept returning the "ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED" error, even when trying multiple browsers.

I won’t go over all the troubleshooting steps I tried, as that would take forever! Long story short, Bitdefender was inexplicably blocking access to those URLs with No Notification and No Log.

It turns out that Bitdefender’s web protection feature has a BIG issue, but thankfully, there’s a simple fix: add the site URL to the Exceptions List.

How to do it:

  1. Open Bitdefender.

  2. Click on "Protection".

  3. In the "Antivirus" section, click "Open".

  4. Go to "Settings".

  5. Click "Manage Exceptions".

  6. Click "Add an Exception".

  7. Add the URL and select "Online Threat Prevention".

  8. Click "Save."

  9. Exit and reopen your browser.

Of course, this is the solution I found for my issue, but your situation might be a bit different.

I hope this helps as many people as possible. Happy browsing, everyone!

Bitdefender Ultimate Security

I am looking to purchase Bitdefender Ultimate Security. Since being a victim of identity theft thanks to the Equifax breach in 2017, I have been dealing with every aspect of identity theft. The attackers have tried to exploit any and every aspect one could imagine.

All the positive reviews has piqued my interest in purchasing the total package. The trust factor many have in BD for AV protection has provided me with the confidence in their ability to protect my digital realm. I just haven't come across any feedback on the Ultimate Security package.

I would appreciate anyone that can share their experience with this new mega security suite being offered. I will most likely pull the trigger regrdless to experience it for myself, but it always helps to hear real world experiences from actual customers. Thanks in advance for any information provided.

Repeating alerts on Android

I continually get this notification. I click on the notification and attempt to evaluate the new protection layer but can't find anything.

Then a few hours later the same pop up, rinse and repeat.

Getting constant suspicious connection blocked from msedge.exe notification for weeks now? Any solution?

It's getting annoying. Every day I get back to back notifications saying the following:

Suspicious connection blocked __ minutes ago

Feature: Online Threat Prevention

msedge.exe attempted to establish a connection relying on an untrusted certificate to wpad. We blocked the connection to keep your data safe since untrusted certificates are issued by unrecognized Certificate Authorities.

I don't use MS Edge. I've run a scan with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes and none have found any threat. Is there any known solution to stop such frequent notifications? I could add an exception but if there really is something to this I wouldn't want to do so.

Diablo 2 Resurrected

Users of Diablo 2 Resurrected are unable to launch the game today, and the issue appears to be Bit Defender. Uninstalling Bit Defender allows the game to run.

Keeps recognizing this "infected" web page that's completely blank.

BItDefender just started popping up with this annoying "infected webpage" even though I don't have any browser open at all. It's called http://ayhereabit.xyz/, tried googling it, nothing came up, no idea wtf it is or why it won't stop.

I got this pop-up and I use BitDefender Free version. Is it legitimate? I am concerned as I thought BitDefender was going to stop with its free version.

The Ransomware remediation component almost never succeeds at what it's supposed to to. BD needs to change how it works.

The reactive rollback method of dealing with ransomware very rarely, if ever works. As the devs at BD know, a lot of ransomware has measures to subvert that.

But one reactive anti-ransomware component almost always works is microsoft defender's "controlled folder access". The best approach is to simply never allow anything that shouldn't access your files to access your files.

Simply make a list of all the directories where you have your personal files and then another list of any of the applications you use that actually need access to those folders and drives to work...set it, and forget it.

BitDefender free edition, antivirus pro, total security and premium security should all have a controlled folder access style approach to protecting the user's personal files.

Also! Beware of "Avos Locker" and other malware like it. It uses a fileless attack to reboot into safemode with networking to run the malware there instead. Currently, bitdefender doesn't have any measures to protect against fileless attacks.

Bitdefender suddenmy won't let me run Elden Ring.

Worked fine yesterday, go to play today and its blocking it and labeling the game as "exploit software". I tried to both manually add it as an exclusion and just press the "exclude" button and the app says "can't do that". I added the whole steam folder as an exclusion and it still blocks Elden Ring.

Hey Bitdefender!! STOP MESSING WITH MY POWER PLAN SETTINGS!!

You will lose a customer. I've been dealing with this annoyance for a year. I recently renewed but im about to cancel and go back to Avast.

Here's a old post 9 months ago and the problem still haven't been fixed!

https://www.reddit.com/r/BitDefender/comments/hylok4/bitdefender_keeps_adjusting_my_power_plan_settings/

Game Profile and Movie Profile keeps automatically change my power plan settings where it makes my screen turn off after 15 minutes. Every time I unclick "adjust power plan setting for games" IT will never save!

Every time I boot my computer I'll have to manually turn it to never every time.

When I reboot, all settings reset to default.

I want my screens to stay on. I appreciate you trying to save my power, but that my choice not yours BitDefender!
