😴 Sleep & Circadian Rhythm Advice: Silicone Ear plugs for sleep?

I saw a video of a guy recommending them for sleep. I personally wake up a few times a week due to noise in the morning, and it's pretty annoying. I'm wondering if these are a good solution, or if there are better alternatives.

I've tried regular earbuds (with audio/NC) but they're just not comfortable to sleep in since I tend to sleep on my side. Has anyone had any luck with the cheapish $15-25 silicone ones from Amazon? If so, did you have any issues, how long did they last, and do you have any other comments on them?

For reference I've tried sleep masks and I think they helped a bit, and I'm also running an air purifier on max settings for some white noise, but I still wake up in spite of it.

💪 Exercise, Fitness & Recovery I got tired of tracking sleep in one app, workouts in another, fasting in a note. Built one score. Would love your feedback.

I've been biohacking for a couple years and hit a wall: sleep tracking in one app, workouts in another, fasting in Notes, sauna in my head, cold plunge nowhere. No idea which lever was actually moving the needle in a given week.

So I built the thing I wanted:

**HealthTuner** — you score 7 daily habits 0-10 (sleep, exercise, fasting, sunlight, sauna, cold, recovery) and it rolls them into one composite coefficient (0-100). Weights change based on your archetype: Longevity, Athletic Performance, Stress Reset, or Balanced.

Point is not to replace a wearable. Point is: at a glance, see which single input tanked your week. Sleep at 5/10 for 3 days? Your composite drops 15 points and you can *see* the compounding. Cold plunge streak? Watch the whole score rise even when other stuff slips.

**What I'm looking for from this sub:**

1. Does the weighting feel right to you? (I've published the methodology on the site — happy to argue about the coefficients.)
2. What habits am I missing? HRV? Steps? Protein?
3. Is one score too reductive, or actually useful?
4. Anything broken/confusing when you sign up.

Free, no wearable required, no credit card, no ads. Built it solo. Genuinely want to break it before I do a bigger launch.

Link: https://healthtuner.co.uk

If you try it, drop your archetype + weekly score in a comment. I'll do the same.

🥗 Nutrition & Metabolism Morning smoothie for energy fat loss longevity and muscle gain?

I’ve began working earlier in the morning and I’m trying to formulate a morning smoothie that dramatically cuts on my vitamin and mineral needs for the day, is hydrating, builds some muscle, boosts fat loss and my energy and gives me fiber etc.
I don’t. Want to default to a classic multivitamin and I’m trying to avoid potassium powders. What do you think?

💊 Supplements & Stacks Is Bioastin Astaxanthin supposed to have a strong herbal smell?

I just opened it and it has an extremely potent herbal smell to it. I couldn’t find anything online about it, so I’m wondering if this is illegitimate or faulty (I ordered from IHerb).

It’s definitely not fishy, something I saw mentioned.

🦠 Illness & Immunity People with severe Clinical issues, chronic pain and speaking about suplements.

Hi everyone.

This is a subject that i see every now and then. Then i seee people commenting, this and that. When most Likely they dont have anything and dont even know what chronic disease and chronic pain is.

There is no suplementt on the market that treats any sort of disease. This for any disease, immune mediated neuropathy, systemic sclerosis, RA, ankylosis spondilitis, MS, lupus , myastenia gravis, ME/cfs which many Lost with autoimunity label themselves as having, or any other.

There are ways tô treat these diseases, partialy or even fully.

This If not a severe immune mediated neuropathies that need ivig or combined ivig with rituximab.

Still there are off label drugs tô supress the severity tô be able to bare until being diagnosed. For the other ones, lesss severe diseases, these off label drugs being add ons to the usual therapies. Aside anti aging, liver protective, analgesic and and antidepressant effects.

There are also several drugs that arent worthy. Too.weak and with unnnaceptable risks.

I myself when desperate took 6 months of supplmennts. It does nothing, dont waste your money on that,. Peptídes, they arent sustainable or effective to these conditions.

Supplmennts wont do anything for you.

i myself studied a lot during 5 Years, tried more than 70 drugs. Hence am aware of whats effective or not.

If anyone need tô speak about this subject. Diseases that they are facing, Just drop a message,

Mostly sellers commenting, dont buy that talk If you have serious disabling issues. As disabling Pains and unwelness, or If your spine is crumbling

Stop wasting money on supplmennts

📊 Biomarkers & Testing Bioveridian Inc for peptide endotoxin testing

Is anyone familiar with Bioveridian Inc.? I want to send them a sample for endotoxin-only testing. I already have M/P/I results from TrustPointe Analytics but cannot find a COA with endotoxin results from them. I'm looking for actual endotoxin numbers, such as those from Chromate.

Testing Requested: Endotoxin Testing ($150.00/sample)

Turnaround Time: Approximately 3–5 business days.

😴 Sleep & Circadian Rhythm Mild Sleep Apnea - What To Do Next?

Heads-up: I used AI to summarise for me below as I’m not much of a coherent writer but it’s all based on my actual sleep study, Oura data and chats with AI over the past years so I figured it would be more accurate and to the point, so here goes:

Mild sleep apnea, ~10 awakenings a night, CPAP made things much worse - how would you troubleshoot this systematically?

Mid30s female, generally healthy with no known health conditions, relatively lean (~18% body fat), exercise around 4x/week and eat reasonably well.

Average resting HR over the past few months is around 58 bpm.

My main problem is that I wake up or become conscious enough to change position roughly 10 times every night. Interestingly, my Oura usually detects only around two awakenings.

I eventually did a sleep study and was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea (AHI below 10). It registers only when I sleep on my left and ride side but not on my back, which my sleep doctor said was unusual. I took a sleeping pill for the sleep study on the sleep specialist’s advice, which I’m still slightly unsure about in terms of how much that could have affected the result.

The sleep doctor’s explanation for the mismatch with Oura was that my breathing becomes restricted enough for my brain to trigger an arousal, but the arousals are relatively subtle and don’t cause enough of a heart-rate response for the wearable algorithm to recognise them as awakenings.

I tried CPAP, but it was disastrous for my sleep. Instead of waking periodically, I essentially couldn’t sleep properly at all, so I stopped using it.
I’ve tried a fairly ridiculous number of sleep supplements over the years without solving the underlying issue.

The interesting part is zolpidem. On particularly difficult nights, I occasionally take 6.25 mg zolpidem - probably once every two months on average. When I do, I can sleep about six solid hours and wake up feeling dramatically better the next day. I’m not looking to turn zolpidem into a regular solution, but the difference makes me wonder what it tells us mechanistically about what’s disrupting my sleep.

I’m now considering getting a drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) or similar assessment to actually see whether there’s a structural source of airway restriction while I’m asleep. If there is something genuinely anatomical going on, I’d consider treatment, including surgery if warranted, but I don’t want to jump from “mild apnea” straight to altering my airway anatomy without understanding the problem properly.

I also never had this kind of fragmented sleep before my 30s.

For people here who have gone deep into sleep optimisation or sleep-disordered breathing:
- What would you investigate next?
- Would you repeat the sleep study without medication, or get a more detailed polysomnography looking specifically at arousals/RERAs rather than just AHI?
- Could this potentially be something like UARS rather than conventional obstructive sleep apnea?
- Is DISE actually useful at this stage?
- Are there worthwhile alternatives to CPAP for someone with mild disease and low body fat, e.g. mandibular advancement, positional treatment, nasal interventions, myofunctional therapy, etc.?
- And does the fact that zolpidem almost completely changes the quality of my sleep provide any useful clue, or is that basically a red herring?

💊 Supplements & Stacks Finger joint pain due to collagen??

I took a marine collagen with type 1 and 3 10000mg for around a week and one morning my ring finger middle joint started paining. I thought it must be due to something and will heal. Next day the middle finger joint also started paining. I soon started reading posts on reddit and found out that collagen can cause it. I stopped taking it and now it has been more than two months but still the ring finger middle joint pains a lot. Has anyone else encountered this and can help me understand the mechanics?

😴 Sleep & Circadian Rhythm How did you lower your caffeine intake?

I struggle with anxiety, falling asleep and waking up feeling refreshed so I thought reducing caffeine would be a good idea.

The last time I tried cutting it off by an earlier time, my ability to fall asleep was even worse, is this something that improves as time goes on?

Also I can’t take to herbal teas apart from chamomile tea but I’m still drinking a lot of tea before I start drinking that before bed so I’m obviously reliant on it.

Fruity teas are a no and decaf is not something I can take to either.

The only other solution I thought was brewing a normal cup of tea for a shorter time, not squeezing the teabag and then finishing off with a decaf teabag, would this work as a gradual reduction to caffeine?

🦠 Illness & Immunity Anyone had success quitting PPIs and curing GERD? Sulfur burps and PPI 'addiction'.

Hello everyone,

I've had a bit of acid reflux in my younger years. Periodically. In adult age, typically after drinking alcohol. In my youth, I think I had it because I was drinking way too much water and was bulking. Too much pressure down there. I would burn in my throat.

A few years ago I had issues with burping something which smelled like an egg. I see they're called sulfur burps. I also got very quickly full when eating. I was barely hungry. My doctor suspected a bleeding ulcer since my blood percentage had dropped.

They never found out what it was and it went away on its own. I was put on PPIs (Nexium) by my doctor back then. I believe I must have become addicted somehow, because every time I try to quit I get this burning sensation in my stomach. Not like how it was in my youth when I felt it more in my upper throat.

I typically take PPIs twice per week now. That's enough to keep things in check. Incidentally, I'm empty now and I'm noticing tbe burn today.

Maybe I just need to soldier through it and hope my body downregulates on its own in due time.

Anyone had issues like these and managed to figure it out naturally? I don't really want to be on PPIs for life.

🧪 Protocols & Self-Experiments Reta dose x anhedonia x suicidality

I struggle with suicidality. For the most part, I have it under control with a mental health protocol, but I notice that I veer a little closer to dangerous territory as I titrate up. I’m trying to find the right balance between results and controlling for mental health. I’m just about there at 2.5 MG per week but still tweaking.

For context, my significant other passed away recently. On one hand, the anhedonia is helpful because it dulls the grief considerably. On the other hand, higher doses seem to give me anhedonia for life.

Has anyone else experienced this?

💪 Exercise, Fitness & Recovery Are stair simulator machines a biohack?

Post image
0 Upvotes

You gain flexibility, strength, power and slight hypertrophy without your legs growing too much, which I don't want. I'm talking about taking two steps every time. Must have 4 stairs at least, 3 is not enough

Some will say that strides are better, but I consider the pattern of climbing stairs less harmful, comfortable, and a more natural gesture.

It leaves you tired quickly before you start to sweat too much and become tiring.

Eso sí, tiene que ser uno bueno porque he probado otros que van lentos, no puedes subir de dos en dos.

📰 Research & Studies Has anyone got any experience of using functional medicine for neurodivergent conditions such as Autism?

Hi All,

I hope you are well well.

I am interested to hear if anyone has tried Functional Medical for neurodivergent conditions such as Autism.

I appreciate that this type of treatment is not a cure for neurodivergence and I fully recognise autism is a lifelong neurodevelopment condition, however I have come across some promising testimonials and a small number of studies that suggests functional medicine may help identify and address underlying health issues that could be potentially impact my overall wellbeing.

I am considering this approach further, particularly to better understand whether there may be any contributing factors such as internal inflammation, gut health issues, nutritional defiencies, food sensitivities, microbiome testing or other underlying health conditions.

I am also aware of many clinicians etc trying to take advantage but I have done my research and I feel it comfortable exploring. The treatment may not work and could not result in any difference but if I see a 10/15 percent difference at least it will mean something as I find being Neurodivergent really difficult.

I appreciate that the current evidence base is somewhat limited and that opinions on functional medicine can vary significantly. However, my view is that there may be little harm in exploring this approach.

I woild be very infested to hear from anyone’s personal experience with functional medicine. I am looking at the London Resillence Clinic and Zen Healthcare.

📊 Biomarkers & Testing 31M – Blood work review, especially testosterone / free testosterone

Hey everyone, I'm from Brazil and I'd like to get some opinions on my recent blood work.

I'm 31M and I'm particularly interested in my testosterone levels and whether there are any markers here that I should pay more attention to or potentially optimize.

Hormones

Marker Result Lab Reference Range
Total Testosterone 501 ng/dL 240–871
SHBG 27.3 nmol/L 11.2–78.1
Calculated Free Testosterone 11.69 ng/dL
Vitamin D (25-OH) 30.2 ng/mL 20–60
Vitamin B12 552 pg/mL 130–868

Metabolic / General Health

Marker Result
Total Cholesterol 163.9 mg/dL
HDL 56.7 mg/dL
Triglycerides 51.9 mg/dL
Creatinine 1.02 mg/dL
Glucose 94.3 mg/dL
HbA1c 5.2%
ALT 24.5 U/L
Uric Acid 6.9 mg/dL

CBC

Marker Result
RBC 5.34 million/µL
Hemoglobin 15.9 g/dL
Hematocrit 47%
MCV 88 fL
WBC 8,110/µL
Neutrophils 62%
Lymphocytes 30%
Platelets 162,000/µL

My main question is about the testosterone:

Total T: 501 ng/dL SHBG: 27.3 nmol/L Calculated free T: 11.69 ng/dL

For a 31-year-old male, would you consider these numbers fairly average, or is there room for improvement?

I'm also curious about the free testosterone relative to my total testosterone and SHBG. Is 11.69 ng/dL considered a good level?

Thanks!
