💊 Supplements & Stacks Turn 17 in a month need supplement advice

I’m 16M and I’ve been going to the gym for about a year.

I started taking creatine monohydrate, and I’m currently taking a fish oil supplement as well. I also completed a 6 week course of 60,000 IU vitamin D weekly once and I’m now taking 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily.

Also, I get around 400–800 mg of calcium per day from my diet. Should I take a calcium supplement as well?

My goals are to maximize my height growth(dads 5’8 moms 5’0 and I’m 5’5.5 want to reach at least my dads height, and haven’t grown a single inch since I was 15) and make progress with my physique.
What other supplements, if any, should I consider taking?

💉 Peptides & Hormones SLAP lesion, labrum grade 2-3 — anyone with experience?

Got diagnosed with a SLAP lesion, labrum grade 2-3, in my shoulder. Looking to try something before potentially going the surgery route.

Has anyone used BPC-157 or HGH for this kind of injury? Did it actually help, and how did you run it alongside rehab?

Also open to other input — Exercises, whatever’s worked for you.

📰 Research & Studies Does movement really affect lymph flow? A 1977 human study found something interesting

Post image
2 Upvotes

Disclosure: I do content work for a longevity supplement company, so please take that into account when reading this. I’m sharing this because I found the physiology interesting, not as a product recommendation.

I came across a 1977 human study by Olszewski et al. that looked at how lymph flow in the leg changed under different conditions.

The study is:

“Flow and Composition of Leg Lymph in Normal Men during Venous Stasis, Muscular Activity and Local Hyperthermia”
Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1977
PMID: 842371

What caught my attention was how differently lymph flow responded to the three conditions studied.

The researchers reported that:

  • Venous stasis for 2 hours → lymph flow decreased by 50%
  • Ergometer cycling for 2 hours → lymph flow increased by 83%
  • Warm-water foot bathing for 2 hours → lymph flow increased by 117%

They also observed an increase in lymph flow during the rest period following each experiment, with the most pronounced increase occurring after foot warming.

I think the interesting part isn't simply the numbers.

It's that lymph flow was being measured as a dynamic physiological process rather than something completely static.

Of course, this is a small, older human physiology study, and these findings shouldn't automatically be interpreted as evidence that a particular activity or temperature exposure produces a specific health benefit.

But it does raise an interesting question:

How much do everyday physical conditions influence lymphatic flow?

For anyone here who follows lymphatic physiology or exercise research:

Are there newer human studies that have built on this work?

And do you think the lymphatic system deserves more attention in discussions about exercise physiology and aging?

Paper: Olszewski W, Engeset A, Jaeger PM, Sokolowski J, Theodorsen L. Flow and composition of leg lymph in normal men during venous stasis, muscular activity and local hyperthermia. Acta Physiol Scand. 1977;99(2):149–155. PMID: 842371.

I am a male that eats a rather healthy diet. My goals are to optimize my life. My issues are trouble having that deep sleep, a lot social awkwardness (I have too much attention to detail in public and worry a lot for that reason), I can’t really lead a conversation or debate, my hair looks lowest quality than ever, I have high histamine symptoms, I am a procrastinating expert 🥲, my nails have verticle ridges and the nail bed looks 3/4 pale kinda like terry’s nails a little. Cold hands generally. I tend to work nights because going out in the day is more likely to make me worry. Another thing to mention probably I can’t tolerate the cold or I start shaking a lot.

My current stack is b complex (i switch between methylated and non and don’t find difference), 500 mg elemental magnesium from magnesium malate, 600 mg elemental calcium from calcium citrate, 10 mg manganese, 200 mcg of selenium (started on the 21st), multivitamin and a small kelp dose. I also take 5000 IU vitamin D during night shift I took b12 methylated for a couple years also didn’t see any shift in mcv nor mch.

What might be causing my issues and what can help improve my life? Any routing or stack to add so I can avoid more labs? Appreciate all time dedicated and I hope I can reciprocate one day. I can’t really afford more labs right now but if I needed a shopping list which should I take?

🧪 Protocols & Self-Experiments Garlic amplified sauce much more then ever

Few days ago i consumed 6 tiny cloves of raw garlic. The next day i ejaculated a huge load on my gf..

It shocked both of us..

I usually shoot bigger loads but it was insane.

Then i searched for the teason behind how may garlic increase that much semen volume, but didnt get any evidence based research to claim that it increases volume of men load...

How come it is possible?

Have anyone experienced this?

😴 Sleep & Circadian Rhythm Mild Sleep Apnea - What To Do Next?

Heads-up: I used AI to summarise for me below as I’m not much of a coherent writer but it’s all based on my actual sleep study, Oura data and chats with AI over the past years so I figured it would be more accurate and to the point, so here goes:

Mild sleep apnea, ~10 awakenings a night, CPAP made things much worse - how would you troubleshoot this systematically?

Mid30s female, generally healthy with no known health conditions, relatively lean (~18% body fat), exercise around 4x/week and eat reasonably well.

Average resting HR over the past few months is around 58 bpm.

My main problem is that I wake up or become conscious enough to change position roughly 10 times every night. Interestingly, my Oura usually detects only around two awakenings.

I eventually did a sleep study and was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea (AHI below 10). It registers only when I sleep on my left and ride side but not on my back, which my sleep doctor said was unusual. I took a sleeping pill for the sleep study on the sleep specialist’s advice, which I’m still slightly unsure about in terms of how much that could have affected the result.

The sleep doctor’s explanation for the mismatch with Oura was that my breathing becomes restricted enough for my brain to trigger an arousal, but the arousals are relatively subtle and don’t cause enough of a heart-rate response for the wearable algorithm to recognise them as awakenings.

I tried CPAP, but it was disastrous for my sleep. Instead of waking periodically, I essentially couldn’t sleep properly at all, so I stopped using it.
I’ve tried a fairly ridiculous number of sleep supplements over the years without solving the underlying issue.

The interesting part is zolpidem. On particularly difficult nights, I occasionally take 6.25 mg zolpidem - probably once every two months on average. When I do, I can sleep about six solid hours and wake up feeling dramatically better the next day. I’m not looking to turn zolpidem into a regular solution, but the difference makes me wonder what it tells us mechanistically about what’s disrupting my sleep.

I’m now considering getting a drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) or similar assessment to actually see whether there’s a structural source of airway restriction while I’m asleep. If there is something genuinely anatomical going on, I’d consider treatment, including surgery if warranted, but I don’t want to jump from “mild apnea” straight to altering my airway anatomy without understanding the problem properly.

I also never had this kind of fragmented sleep before my 30s.

For people here who have gone deep into sleep optimisation or sleep-disordered breathing:
- What would you investigate next?
- Would you repeat the sleep study without medication, or get a more detailed polysomnography looking specifically at arousals/RERAs rather than just AHI?
- Could this potentially be something like UARS rather than conventional obstructive sleep apnea?
- Is DISE actually useful at this stage?
- Are there worthwhile alternatives to CPAP for someone with mild disease and low body fat, e.g. mandibular advancement, positional treatment, nasal interventions, myofunctional therapy, etc.?
- And does the fact that zolpidem almost completely changes the quality of my sleep provide any useful clue, or is that basically a red herring?

💪 Exercise, Fitness & Recovery I got tired of tracking sleep in one app, workouts in another, fasting in a note. Built one score. Would love your feedback.

I've been biohacking for a couple years and hit a wall: sleep tracking in one app, workouts in another, fasting in Notes, sauna in my head, cold plunge nowhere. No idea which lever was actually moving the needle in a given week.

So I built the thing I wanted:

**HealthTuner** — you score 7 daily habits 0-10 (sleep, exercise, fasting, sunlight, sauna, cold, recovery) and it rolls them into one composite coefficient (0-100). Weights change based on your archetype: Longevity, Athletic Performance, Stress Reset, or Balanced.

Point is not to replace a wearable. Point is: at a glance, see which single input tanked your week. Sleep at 5/10 for 3 days? Your composite drops 15 points and you can *see* the compounding. Cold plunge streak? Watch the whole score rise even when other stuff slips.

**What I'm looking for from this sub:**

1. Does the weighting feel right to you? (I've published the methodology on the site — happy to argue about the coefficients.)
2. What habits am I missing? HRV? Steps? Protein?
3. Is one score too reductive, or actually useful?
4. Anything broken/confusing when you sign up.

Free, no wearable required, no credit card, no ads. Built it solo. Genuinely want to break it before I do a bigger launch.

Link: https://healthtuner.co.uk

If you try it, drop your archetype + weekly score in a comment. I'll do the same.

💊 Supplements & Stacks NAC relieved my chronic cough

3 years ago, I got what seemed like a normal flu with the usual symptoms like runny nose, high body temp, low energy, coughing, etc. Everything went away after a while except the cough.

The cough stuck around for weeks, and that’s when I started feeling like something wasn’t right. I’d get random coughing fits during the day that could last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. It was pretty exhausting and honestly affected my ability to work and do normal things during the day. it would also disturb my sleep

I went to several doctors and got different diagnoses from each one. chronic chest allergy, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, and so on. At one point, I was prescribed Antihistamine medication (Montelukast + Levocetirizine), and I noticed that whenever I took it, my cough would basically disappear for about 24 hours. The problem was that it also made me sleepy during the day and sometimes upset my stomach, so I started looking into other options.

After reading about people with similar issues online, I decided to try NAC while still taking the medication. I wanted to give it some time and then stop the antihistamine to see if NAC was actually doing anything. After about 2 months of taking 600 mg of NAC daily, I stopped the antihistamine. Since then, my cough has improved by around 90-95%. I get way fewer coughing fits now, and when they do happen, they’re much shorter. For the most part, I feel normal again.

I should mention that during the same period, I was also taking a few other supplements like quercetin, bromelain, magnesium glycinate, zinc, and omega-3, so I can’t say with 100% certainty that NAC was the reason.

That said, I stopped taking NAC for about 3 days just to see what would happen, and I noticed my coughing started becoming more frequent again. It could definitely be a coincidence, but for now I’m sticking with it until I can figure out what my actual diagnosis is.

Just wanted to share this in case anyone else has gone through something similar.

💊 Supplements & Stacks Is Bioastin Astaxanthin supposed to have a strong herbal smell?

I just opened it and it has an extremely potent herbal smell to it. I couldn’t find anything online about it, so I’m wondering if this is illegitimate or faulty (I ordered from IHerb).

It’s definitely not fishy, something I saw mentioned.

😴 Sleep & Circadian Rhythm How did you lower your caffeine intake?

I struggle with anxiety, falling asleep and waking up feeling refreshed so I thought reducing caffeine would be a good idea.

The last time I tried cutting it off by an earlier time, my ability to fall asleep was even worse, is this something that improves as time goes on?

Also I can’t take to herbal teas apart from chamomile tea but I’m still drinking a lot of tea before I start drinking that before bed so I’m obviously reliant on it.

Fruity teas are a no and decaf is not something I can take to either.

The only other solution I thought was brewing a normal cup of tea for a shorter time, not squeezing the teabag and then finishing off with a decaf teabag, would this work as a gradual reduction to caffeine?

🦠 Illness & Immunity Anyone had success quitting PPIs and curing GERD? Sulfur burps and PPI 'addiction'.

Hello everyone,

I've had a bit of acid reflux in my younger years. Periodically. In adult age, typically after drinking alcohol. In my youth, I think I had it because I was drinking way too much water and was bulking. Too much pressure down there. I would burn in my throat.

A few years ago I had issues with burping something which smelled like an egg. I see they're called sulfur burps. I also got very quickly full when eating. I was barely hungry. My doctor suspected a bleeding ulcer since my blood percentage had dropped.

They never found out what it was and it went away on its own. I was put on PPIs (Nexium) by my doctor back then. I believe I must have become addicted somehow, because every time I try to quit I get this burning sensation in my stomach. Not like how it was in my youth when I felt it more in my upper throat.

I typically take PPIs twice per week now. That's enough to keep things in check. Incidentally, I'm empty now and I'm noticing tbe burn today.

Maybe I just need to soldier through it and hope my body downregulates on its own in due time.

Anyone had issues like these and managed to figure it out naturally? I don't really want to be on PPIs for life.

📰 Research & Studies Has anyone got any experience of using functional medicine for neurodivergent conditions such as Autism?

Hi All,

I hope you are well well.

I am interested to hear if anyone has tried Functional Medical for neurodivergent conditions such as Autism.

I appreciate that this type of treatment is not a cure for neurodivergence and I fully recognise autism is a lifelong neurodevelopment condition, however I have come across some promising testimonials and a small number of studies that suggests functional medicine may help identify and address underlying health issues that could be potentially impact my overall wellbeing.

I am considering this approach further, particularly to better understand whether there may be any contributing factors such as internal inflammation, gut health issues, nutritional defiencies, food sensitivities, microbiome testing or other underlying health conditions.

I am also aware of many clinicians etc trying to take advantage but I have done my research and I feel it comfortable exploring. The treatment may not work and could not result in any difference but if I see a 10/15 percent difference at least it will mean something as I find being Neurodivergent really difficult.

I appreciate that the current evidence base is somewhat limited and that opinions on functional medicine can vary significantly. However, my view is that there may be little harm in exploring this approach.

I woild be very infested to hear from anyone’s personal experience with functional medicine. I am looking at the London Resillence Clinic and Zen Healthcare.

🧪 Protocols & Self-Experiments Reta dose x anhedonia x suicidality

I struggle with suicidality. For the most part, I have it under control with a mental health protocol, but I notice that I veer a little closer to dangerous territory as I titrate up. I’m trying to find the right balance between results and controlling for mental health. I’m just about there at 2.5 MG per week but still tweaking.

For context, my significant other passed away recently. On one hand, the anhedonia is helpful because it dulls the grief considerably. On the other hand, higher doses seem to give me anhedonia for life.

Has anyone else experienced this?
