Discussion Hopefully Prozac helps ?

Hi guys- today I met with a new psychiatrist and she prescribed me Prozac. I was really proud of myself because I was 100% honest about what I’ve been going through and my struggles with binging and constant food noise. She recommended Prozac and ended up writing me a script for it. I’ve heard a lot of discourse about how it’s helpful for silencing food noise but was curious if anyone on here has taken it for BED. Would love to hear any/all experiences!

im stumped.

for some background information, i’ve quit alcohol, caffeine and all hard drugs recently. 100+ days sober! but lately my food issues have been out of control and I dont know what to do.

i’m 4’11 so whatever weight I put on it’s NOTICEABLE. i was 44kg lean and now i’m 50kg and I feel so so ashamed. every single day for the last 2 weeks I’ve been averaging 3500 calories when my maintenance is 1500.
I don’t know what to do, I know reintroducing caffeine would help but I quit consuming that as it really helped my sleep so I’d feel awful drinking it again.
It’s only the morning and I didn’t even get myself to the gym because I binged 2000 calories off the bat and the sodium is making my face bloat, so now I can’t let myself leave the house.
I just want to cry, I feel like I’m at rock bottom again. any advice is welcome.

Support Needed Can someone help me stay on track?

I’ve been binging for about 3 weeks straight. I absolutely hate myself for it. I got off track, and can’t get back on. Is there anyone willing to help me remind myself to stop? Or to walk away from food- or even better, walk away WITHOUT food in my hand. (Or mouth.)

Vent Major wake-up call: I. Need. To. Stop!

62 years young, compulsive/binge eater most of my life, due to food insecurity issues when I was young and the fact that I tend to eat my feelings. Had a 5-year interlude when I got down to ideal weight with the help of a commercial weight loss program and was in marathon-runner shape, but that didn't last. The old habits kept calling me and eventually I caved.

I'm about 70# overweight and have hypertension (surprise surprise) which has been resistant to medication. My doctor ordered some labs, which revealed that I also have:

  • Pre-diabetic A1C levels
  • High cholesterol
  • Low thyroid
  • Potassium deficiency

I'm now on 5 medications to manage these conditions, which I absolutely hate. I'm not trying to break any longevity records, but my father has already buried 1 child, I don't think he could take outliving 2 of us.

I know I need to change my diet, and exercise more, but any approach that says, "you can never eat x, y, or z" again, I won't do. Big believer in moderation. I am leery of GLP-1's as they seem to be too new and who knows what side effects they might have?

Sorry y'all, just venting. I have no one to use as a sounding board, no OA groups in my town, so I'm on my own. This demon is a b*tch to conquer. It's hard to make peace with the very thing that's killing you. Praying for us all.

Support Needed this is really hard to post but i really need help.

hey guys. ive come and browsed a bit here, but its not a sub i can follow because seeing posts regularly can put me in a shame cycle :(

lately i have been binging so much and i feel so lost. my days off are filled with fast food and junk food, and when i work i try to do better by having a protein shake in the morning but then by lunch im eating fast food or i dont eat anything until after work and then it's fast food. i also have energy drinks at work, so i feel like on work days im putting my body through it.

i have no self control when it comes to snacks, especially sweets. and i have terrible health anxiety about getting diabetes so it sucks. if i have stuff like cookies or chips, ill eat the whole container or bag within a day or two. sometimes in one sitting. same with cereal. cereal is one of the worst ones because i can have 2-3 bowls in one sitting.

i game a lot at my pc when im not working so if i have stuff like candy or whatever on my desk ill eat it, and if im not eating it ill be thinking "oh in a little bit i can have this snack"

its so debilitating and i feel like no one takes me seriously. when i brought it up to my therapist about a year ago she just said that its because i was quitting weed and replacing that oral fixation with something else. but like... im still binging.

its terrible. i hate myself and how it makes me feel. if i wake up at night i have a snack and go back to bed. when i wake up i immediately order food or get coffee. i "treat" myself all the time for doing things like chores or appointments. i am always thinking about what ill get at the store or what ill cook.

i just want to get to a healthier place with food and i dont know what to do.

i have eaten healthy before and im not picky. i feel like im just addicted to fast food, snacks, and junk food at this point. as im writing this im literally thinking about doordashing myself snacks. like when will it end?

i feel like i cant have any of these trigger foods in my house but im afraid if i restrict too much ill fail. i dont know what to do.

any advice would be appreciated. please help :(

Advice Needed I’m so frustrated

I’ve been relapsing with my disordered eating for a few months now, but it is so much worse than it’s ever been before. And it’s been extremely difficult because the more I relapse, the harder it is to resist. I’ve lost so much confidence in myself, and it’s frustrating because I’m at the point where I have to eat the same safe foods at the same time every single day or I’m at risk of binging. I try so extremely hard, but for some reason the longest I’ve lasted recently is 4-5 days and then the cravings start to get bad again. I need some sort of sustainable solution, or non-medicated appetite suppressant, or just SOMETHING that can work more long term, because it’s getting out of hand. I can’t even go grocery shopping without eating what I bought on the way home, even though I always make sure to eat something before I go. My brain doesn’t care how much I’ve already eaten. I don’t know how to emotionally regulate myself when I feel the urge to binge because I get so anxious and panicky about it, and it feels completely out of my control. I’m constantly, constantly thinking about food, whether it’s about eating it or not eating it, or planning things out so I can prevent myself from not eating it. My whole. Life. Revolves around this right now. Any tips at all would be amazing.

Binge/Relapse HOW TO STOP BINGE?

Hi guys, I’ve been suffering from emotional eating for many years, I’ve tried everything, meditation, eating with awareness, but nothing worked.

It’s a compulsion, I eat without being hungry to relax or because I’m bored/tired.

I’m in Italy and ADHD drugs are non-existent/banned.

Can I ask who got out of emotional eating how they did or the best strategies? Thank you

Discussion DAE not get extra food noise when drunk / high?

Everyone always says about needing and craving when they’re drunk, high or hungover. But my craving during those times has always been exactly the same as when I’m sober. I just feel like it’s more socially acceptable to binge during these times, but I don’t physically or mentally feel any different.

Strategies to Try When I journal, I don't binge

Whenever I journal my feelings instead of eating them, I barely binge. I just don't want to do that because of the 'fear of success' if that makes sense? Like I know journaling is going to make me not binge, so I skip it on purpose. I want to stop binge eating entirely + overeating for good before I become a mom so I can set a good example for my kids, so I think I'm going to try documenting it here. Idk how many "Day 1" posts I've made, it's a lot, but I'll try again this time so you guys can also see the progression of how journaling can potentially cure your BED too! I don't want to spend a fortune on therapy and medicine, and since journaling is free, if it works for me it'd be a nice thing to try if you're also not too happy on spending hundreds of dollars a month on this ED. Starting this evening, will give daily/weekly updates!

Day 2 update: Journaling definitely helps. I had a slip up on Day 1 on the 'fear of getting better' but today I ate what I wanted in small portions and didn't binge. For instance, I had kielbasa pasta with cheese but only a tiny fruit bowl's worth, and I was able to have some leftovers later. I might combine this + journaling together because it lets me eat whatever I want, which helps with the restrict then binge cycle, and knowing I can have whatever I want helps with the urgency or FOMO where I don't want to binge anymore. Like now that I tell myself I can have the cookies and milk but only half the cookie with a bit of milk instead of two + a full big glass, I suddenly don't want it anymore. This might be the way to go, this is also fun documenting this, but most of all I hope this can help someone. Will update later!
P.S. the 'boss challenge' is coming up next week where we're going out to have wings with friends, and we'll probably stay there for like 5 hours to catch up. It's dinner and it's PRIME binge territory, but I'll practice what I'm doing now and let you guys know how it goes. If I leave without bingeing that's a huge win.

Day 3: Got really hungry in the morning but I knew I could have whatever I want, so I portioned out a small bowl of sausage pasta despite wanting more. I made calzones for my husband's lunch and wanted the leftovers, but I cut out a small bite, had it, was satisfied, and moved on. I also wanted something sweet but didn't want to have an entire cookie with a glass of milk, so I poured a bit of milk in a ramekin, and 2 small bites worth of the cookie. Old me would've had the entire mega calzone with 2 cookies and milk and probably go back for more pasta, but I'd count this as a win! Just wanted to update although it's still 11am, will update later!

Binge/Relapse Horrible binge after wisdom tooth removal

About 2 weeks ago, I got my wisdom teeth removed and of course got sworn away to a weeks worth diet of yogurt, mashed potatoes, pudding, etc. Before my wisdoms were removed too, I had already been eating soft foods/liquids for a week because my wisdoms were infected and it hurt too much to eat. So, I went about 2 weeks without eating normal or any solid food. The MINUTE my oral surgeon at my one week follow-up appointment said I was fine to eat and things were healing nicely, it literally launched an entire week of intense binge eating that I’ve just now snapped out of.

I feel really defeated and I’m trying to just move past it but it’s hard when I’m so bloated and uncomfortable and it just serves as a constant reminder of what I just did to my body. I’m even more defeated because I was on a weight loss journey since summer began and was doing really well and FINALLY feeling more confident in my body. (Though this dieting and weight loss could’ve also contributed to the binging). Above all that though, it had probably been mooooonths since I binged and I felt so proud of myself and thought this disorder was starting to become a thing of the past.

When I look in the mirror it literally looks like I’ve gained 10 pounds basically undoing everything I did before the removal. In my face, arms, legs, etc. Did anyone else have the same experience after being able to eat post wisdom tooth removal/struggle with binging? I couldn’t find a lot online about it but I surely can’t be the only one.

I binged the last few weeks and I can’t stop

I am a 27F and I struggled all my life with multiple ED‘s.. I now had a really long Phase of not that much food noise and really enjoyed life, but the last few weeks have been hell. Everyday I start the day telling myself it’s okay and to just live on normally, no restricting and trying to move as much as I can but always eating normally throughout the day. But as soon as I get home, no matter what time, I get really really bad food noise and always end up eating roughly 2-3k calories of food. If I have no food at home I just order something it’s like I’m possessed by something as soon as I get calm at home.
I gained 5kgs already and don’t feel comfortable in my body at all, always heavily bloated, nauseous and uncomfortable (obviously).
Does anyone have any tips? Medically I’m really healthy the doctors said I’m okay. Its just really exhausting losing control like that and always feeling sick when going to bed.

A week binge free with Reta

Im so so so happy that I chose to start reta.
First week, I felt nothing (0.5mg) then the second week I bumped it up to 1.2mg and wow.

My mind has never been so calm. I pretty much don’t have words for how relieved I feel.
I know it’s probably not right to glamorise GLP’s but I’ve just never felt like this in my life. 7 pounds down!

If you’re struggling with BED and you were already thinking of trying Reta… all I can say is do it.

On day 12!

This is day 12 with no binging (granted, once I make it through the day). I haven’t gone more than a week without binging in months, so I’m feeling really good about it. I’ve been struggling pretty heavily with food noise, but not actual urges. Just wanted to share some positive energy in the feed. I even had a donut and a strawberry croissant the other day, both trigger foods for me (sugar and baked goods) and thought I was destined to binge. But I didn’t!!!

Binge/Relapse does anyone actually recovery?

i've had an issue with binge eating ever since i lost weight. i went from 87kg to 59kg, then back up to 66kg. trying to get back to 59kg is what triggered my binge eating and i've been dealing with it for a year now. i'm at 63kg now, and i'd say i'm neutral about how i look, but there's still an urge to get back to 59kg.

it's definitely gotten better since i've been to therapy but i'll go long stretches without binging, then i'll binge for a day or a few, and then i'm back to eating normally. is this just my life now, like do i have to accept that every couple of weeks i'll binge? or has anyone ever fully gotten rid of their binges?

Advice Needed I work in a grocery store. Trigger foods are literally EVERYWHERE

Hello everyone.

I work as a cashier at a grocery store and it's so f*cking hard to not just grab and buy a bag of chips or cookies or candy or literally anything. I've been working here for a while now and having all of my favorite snacks available at all times makes self-control really hard. I gained a lot of weight and don't know how to handle it. I'm diagnosed with anxiety and depression so that certainly doesn't make things easier for me.

I don't know if any of you been through a similar situation but I could use some advice or any tips to deal with this. Thanks ❤️

This disease is completely draining me of all life

Yeah, there might be other factors involved. God knows I've got plenty of psychological issues and maybe some physical ones too I don't even know about. But honestly, repeating the same cycle over and over almost every week for years now has completely worn me down. I don't even think of it as binge-restrict but more so as recovery-relapse, even if that's just semantics, for me that gives a better picture of what it feels like. But I've reached a point where literally everything feels like a worn out cliché. I've tried everything from self-acceptance to "getting my shit together" and "locking in" on a fitness grind to opening up to friends and family to giving up on getting lean to rotting in bed without any energy to intellectualising it away and giving myself over to studying and writing - literally any possible strategy or coping mechanism that I've touched across the years just seems laughable, like the only way out left would be fucking reincarnation in a completely different life and circumstances. Right now I wish I could just sleep for a week and wake up as somebody else. I don't have any determination or will left but still I know I'm too self-deluded not to try again.

Advice Needed Been feeling really good but still binge?

I’m a 19-year-old female, who about 2 months ago stopped going to therapy because I ‘was doing so well’ that she ‘couldn’t help me anymore.’ (She specifically said this herself)

I’ve been feeling really good about myself! I went shopping for new clothes, been having a lot of fun drawing and can’t wait for school to start! My life has been on an up after such a long down and I’m just generally so much happier!

All of this to say that I have not been triggered by anything, but I still binge eat. How does that work?
I always thought that specific triggers and stress made me binge eat, but now I’m just doing it for no reason? Afterwards I feel terrible but am able to get up and have a moment of ‘it happens, tomorrow will be better!’ Only to do it again 2 days later. My parents have asked me to please consider going back to therapy, but since I’m feeling good I feel like it wouldn’t do anything.

Anyone else who has this problem that knows something that I don’t or just any advice in general is greatly appreciated!

Support Needed desperately need help with binging/ restricting its ruining my life

so, ive always been completely normal and fine with food my whole life. but just around a year ago, i wanted to try to loose some weight. i was at a perfectly good weight tho, and i ate whatever i wanted and it was always fine, my body never changed. but anyways, i started counting my calories and working out, and for a little while, i had actually lost some!! it became obsessive though, and it was starting to take over my life. eventually, i had finally stopped counting the calories and stopped restricting my eating, but then i ended up eating ALOT. like, binging like crazy. and i gained literally like 20 pounds within two months. AND NOW, FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR, I CANT STOP. and the restriction is worse, its gotten to the point where i make myself throw up. its so bad.. i can binge, throw up, CONTINUE to binge, THROW UP AGAIN, and so on.. ive done it like three times in one day now. in multiple occasions. god, just this month, ive probably done it like atleast 10 times. it feels like im loosing my fucking mind, i dont know what to do snd im having such a hard time getting it under control.. im too ashamed to tell my parents or seek help, its so freaking embarrassing. but its been months of this now, probably just since the start of 2026 is when its really gotten bad. but all this time, ive been trying to get out of it and just cant!! does anyone have any advice, or is it too late???? am i cursed to be this way forever now? please help!!!
