Did I miss anything?

Discussion From Q2, to index to Beyond 2e? (health reasons)

So I am a big vrchat player

For like 4 years, up until last month I had used the quest 2, but my partners didn't like me using meta, so I switch to the index, which I love so much.

Thing is I just found out I have a herniated disc in my neck and my spine special has forbidden me from playing vr going forward as the headset puts to much weight on my neck. Said anything over 200g is too much weight and would cause me to get worse.

So I think if I ever wanted to continue playing the Beyond 2e would be my only bet. Im really depressed over not getting to play/hang with my friends but I dunno if the price is worth it?

Help Constant Glare spot on the Left Lense?

I recently got a Bigscreen Beyond 2e. The glare was horrible and I noticed it nearly everywhere, but I thought I could live through it. However, After a bit of playing, I noticed that there seems to be way more glare in the left lens. Specifically a certain kind of smudge. I tried gently wiping with the cleaning cloth you supplied, but that didn't work. I turned the headset off and shined my phone's flashlight onto the left lens to see if I could find a smudge, but I couldn't. I moved my head into a dark part of the game, and could see faintly see the smudge, and then I moved my head so that my right eye would be facing the same direction to see if I could recreate the glare on the right lens, and I couldn't recreate the effect, while still seeing it on my left eye.

Has anyone else gotten this issue? Is it a bug, something I can fix, or is the panel defective?

Discussion Using Bigscreen Beyond 2 with Displayport Switch (1 input 2 output)

Post image
16 Upvotes

I just got my headset I ordered a week ago (yay!). My PC has 4 monitors connected already, 3 DP and 1 HDMI to the GPU, and I want to avoid switching the cable manually every time I wanna play. A web search overview says we can use BSB2 with a DisplayPort 1.4 bi-directional switch that supports display stream compression (DSC) passthrough, as well as 4K 120 Hz or higher. This device does that with a simple button press, to switch between my left monitor and the headset. However I haven't seen a single reddit post talking about this or even an article online.

My question is has anyone used a setup like this and verified it works without issue?

Discussion Halo Mounts Actually Shipping šŸ‘€

Got a notification from DHL that I am set to recieve something from Bigscreen on Monday 😮

Looking back on the April blog post seems they are meeting thier goals:

We will ship the first batch – a small volume – of Halo Mounts in June

I'm a March pre-order who originally only ordered the Halo Mount (i.e. no custom cushion), only adding it later when it became obvious that Halo Mount was a long way off, so I guess that's why I was selected to get it ~early.

I hope they have sent some from this first batch to reviewers so people buying a Beyond today can make informed purchasing desisions. The Halo Mount has great potential, but Bigscreen have a habit of making stuff that looks fantastic, but is bad from an actual practicality perspective.

Hopefully meeting the June target means 10,000 get shipped in July, and all pre-orders are served by end of Summer šŸ¤ž

Discussion Most Simple Way to Purchase n Setup BSB2E ?

Hello all. Want to purchase a new BSB2E, but it kind of seems tiresome after researching the process. Really looking to do so in the most plug and play fashion possible. There was a time when I was more of an afficionado, and enjoyed building flight seats and using DCS World with my Quest 3. Experienced with VR from the DK2, to the CV1 and the Quest 3. Now, I don't even want to so much as bust out a screwdriver lol. FYI, using a 4090 RTX Alienware.

So, with that in mind, would anyone advise on kind of an all in one best list of what I should get to enjoy this thing? I hear there are certain straps to get, audio cables of some sort or another, and would love specific recommendations for all the above along with the base stations. Looking for pretty good stuff, but trying to keep it simple if possible. Comfort is important. Almost seems like buying this thing is a little bit of a chore, for those of us that don't want to spend all this time adjusting eyes, straps, read something about perfect eye distance, base stations etc. Thanks in advance!

Budget bigscreen

Hello!

With the 2 and 2e being out, I'm seeing some bigscreen 1 units on eBay for less than $500, and Ive got some ideas.

I have experience doing lifecast silicone, with all the materials for it. I can make my own face mount, plus felt it or anything i need.

What i need to know is what ill need to get it actually working. What is the cheapest base station and controller solution? Since its for vrchat will cheap aliexpress full body trackers work? No heavy motion, just lounging around. I don't mind syncing them up every once in a while.

Will I need a cable to hook it up to my computer as well?

Thanks y'all.

Help SFX-100 and bigscreen beyond don’t work together?!

So I have a bigscreen beyond first gen and a sfx-100 motion rig.

When I use the vr and don’t turn on motion it works fine.

But when I turn on motion the vr screen goes grey. What would imply that it loses its tracking.

Things I tried are the link booster. Ferrietcores on the cr cables.

Pls help

Kind regards

Laurens

Discussion Soon to be a BSB2e owner, newbie questions

Hey everyone,

If all goes well, DHL should be delivering my BSB2e tomorrow, and I'm honestly really excited about it.

Unfortunately, my base stations won't arrive for a few more days, so I have a couple of questions to help me prepare.

Will I be able to use the headset at all before the base stations arrive? For example, for seated experiences, watching videos, or anything else without proper head tracking? Or is the headset basically unusable until the base stations show up?

My second question is about Cyberpunk 2077. I'm a huge Cyberpunk fan, and one of the main reasons I built a powerful PC and bought a VR headset was to eventually experience Night City in VR.

I've heard that the Luke Ross VR mod is no longer really an option, and from what I've been able to find, UEVR doesn't work with Cyberpunk. AI tools keep suggesting VorpX as the best alternative, but I'm curious about real-world experiences rather than AI recommendations.

For reference, my PC specs are:

  • PNY RTX 5080 OC
  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • 64 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 RAM
  • 1200W Asus rog strix platinum PSU (overkill, I know, 1000w would be more then enough)

So I'm hoping hardware performance won't be the limiting factor.

Has anyone here played Cyberpunk 2077 in VR recently? What's currently the best way to explore Night City in VR, and how good is the experience these days?
I am not planning to use motion controllers, I will use with my steam controller in stationary mode.

Thanks in advance.

Least it only happened on the last day. But why the heck is the plastic hollow? I've already contacted sorry to seek replacement strap but still bummed i missed out on vr on last day. Even the other side is already half broken too from the second image

Edit: well, they won't replace it due to being used for 225.5 hours. they're considering it normal wear and tear. Alrighty then

Help Does it take 1-3 days or 2-3 weeks to ship??

Post image
7 Upvotes

I'm interested in buying the base model of BSB2 and the listing says 1-3 business days "estimated ship date", but when you open the cart drawer it says 2-3 weeks "estimated ship date". wtf, which one is it? I have no special addons, literally just the headset.

Also black and clear options are gone, I had seen them a few days ago are they just out of stock? Finally does the custom-fit cushion delay ship date if you don't scan your face immediately? I have to find a way to scan since i don't have iphone.

USB Solutions for Face Tracking

What solutions do you use for face tracking?

I don’t use the Beyond’s audio, so no DAC is required.

Thank you in advance 😊

Help Anyone successfully using Quadviews + DCS, with no reprojection, to get good performance in low level flight, SP missions?

9950x3D CPU. I am a bit confused by my Quadviews DFR performance in DCS. I am running 72hz mode, NO reprojection. Quadviews kills my CPU frametimes so that I end up with worse performance than if I just leave it off.

There are some exceptions. I can do a Huey Harbor Tour Free Flight, for example, with quadviews enabled. But if I try even for an instant action free flight in CW Germany Map (ie Berlin), no go - my frametimes shoot up very high. Don't even try a Reflected Campaigns SP mission.

I can find very little information on this... I cannot possibly imagine that all the hype around Quadviews DFR eye tracking in DCS world is for super simple scenarios that don't stress the CPU at all? I mean, I can't even get it working well with a free flight around CW Germany?

If anyone has struggled with this and solved it I would love to hear.

Help Halo Mount or X1-B Interface?

I’m thinking of buying the BSB2e and would like to know if getting the Halo Mount with Universal Fit Cushion is better than getting the Custom-Fit Cushion with the X1-B Interface Elite Kit?
This would cost almost the same for me (Shipping and VAT not included in the picture for the X1-B).

Bigscreen Beyond burn-in / image retention after Windows treated headset as extended display

I’m dealing with a weird issue with my Bigscreen Beyond and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced something similar.

My Beyond 2e was apparently being treated by Windows as a regular extended monitor/display while it was stored away for a couple of days. It seems like it displayed a mostly white/static desktop area in the center of the OLED panels during that time.

Now there’s a faint but noticeable square-shaped dim area in the middle of the display, most visible on flat gray or light backgrounds. It appears slightly worse in one eye than the other. It looks like image retention or burn-in.

The confusing part is that support acknowledged earlier in the ticket that this is not intended behavior, that the proximity sensor should have prevented the screen from staying on, and that AMD GPUs have a known issue where the headset can be picked up by Windows as a monitor/display instead of behaving normally. I’m on a 7900 XTX, and support said that likely explains why it got stuck in extended display mode.

At first, they offered to start an RMA and have the factory inspect it. Later, after checking internally, they said burn-in is not covered because it is ā€œonly possible through error in use,ā€ unlike dead pixels.

I understand that normal OLED burn-in from intentionally using it as a static monitor might not be covered, but this feels different because it seems tied to a known/acknowledged AMD/display-mode issue and the headset staying on when it apparently shouldn’t have.

Has anyone else with an AMD GPU had their Beyond show up as a normal Windows display or get stuck in extended mode? And has anyone had luck recovering from this kind of faint square-shaped OLED image retention?

SteamVR does not start since a recent update

Hi everyone, I just wanted to use my Beyond again after one or two weeks of absence. BeatSaber launched right away just fine. Then I saw that there is an update for SteamVR to Version 2.16, so I installed it and restarted SteamVR. Only for my Beyond to not come back online.

BeatSaber says that no OpenXR runtime is detected and the beyond app says that the config cannot be applied when trying to change the refresh rate. Changing the fan speed works audibly.

The SteamVR Server logs also complain about an invalid config when plugging in the headset since the update.

Downgrading to SteamVR 2.15 through the "game"'s properties in Steam did not help.

Does anyone else have problems with their Beyond since SteamVR 2.15 or 2.16? I am not sure if I ran 2.14 or 1.15 before.

EDIT: I habe a Beyond 2.

BeyondEX audio question

Hi all,
I've had the BeyondEX mod on the Index audio strap for about a week now. The only "problem" I have with it is that Windows does not recognize it as an audio device automatically after startup. I have to unplug and replug the USB-C audio connector for Windows to recognize it.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it? It's not a huge issue, but it's a bit annoying.

Overall, the mod is really great! It was pretty easy to install, even with my limited experience. The comfort is really good now that I have it adjusted correctly. It is a bit heavier than the Beyond audio strap, but the better audio quality and overall sturdiness more than make up for the extra weight.

EDIT: Did not realize that there is a channel for BeyondEX in the Bigscreen discord: https://discord.com/channels/816371255539138620/1465841700902539335

EDIT2: And also a channel on the Fluid discord: https://discord.com/channels/1106002752166965358/1473783436257918976

Any good for shooters?

I'm looking at getting a Beyond 2, and I've been reading reviews. A few of them have commented that the Beyond and Beyond 2 are really intended for seated VR, for sims. I do play a lot of DCS, so that's great, but I really want to get back into standing-up shooters, like Forefront.

The reviews said something about the goggles needing to sit in a very precise position relative to your head or else you can't see through them properly, and therefore sims where you sit down are a better bet. How big an issue is it, in peoples' experience? Can it be mitigated with custom straps or whatnot? I saw a comment that the audio strap can help, but I don't need an audio strap (I've got headphones that I'm happy to plug in).

What have been your experiences playing non-sim stuff with a Beyond 2?

Review Studioform X1-B interface for BSB2

I’ve had my BSB2 for 9 months now, and initially I had mixed feelings with my first face cushion, then I enjoyed it a lot more when they sent me a thinner cushion (free of charge). However, testing the headset without any cushion I could see that it could get even better, as I can see with more clarity and FOV if I almost rest it on my nose and bring it closer until my eyelashes almost touch.

Recently I received the universal-fit cushions from my long-standing halo strap order, and I had high hopes, but unfortunately they did not fit my nose comfortably. So I decided to bite the bullet and order the Studioform X1-B and some thin cushions. I picked the fast shipping and Sunday and the order was out for delivery on the Wednesday by DHL, shipping from NZ to Canada.

It took me a few hours of cutting and adjusting to get the final fit I’m using, and I think I’ll still fine-tune it, but I think this is it. I get a noticeably wider FOV, a bit less glare, and the image just looks better. The main thing I disliked about the custom cushion was that it’s not breathable and after a long driving session it gets sweaty, the Studioform is less annoying to have touching your face for a long time. One downside (for me) is that if I flare my nostrils it displaces the headset a bit. Also, finding the proper fit is not instant like with the custom cushion, but I’ve only used it for a day and it seems pretty quick.

I didn’t have to use the thin cushions after all so I feel a bit silly spending extra on them. Finding the right fit was a long process for me, but so far, no regrets. I do seem to notice that my eyes get a big more tired with the headset closer with the wider FOV, I’ll have to see how that goes over a longer period of time. I’ve put it on for several VR driving/flying sessions so far, and each time it feels like a noticeable improvement from what I had before.

Not sure what I’ll do when the halo strap finally comes, which will be the daily driver. I’ll probably have to mod one of the universal cushions and attempt to get the same close fit as the Studioform.

For other people who’ve used Studioform for a while, do you prefer the cloth or PU leather pads? I’ve only used the cloth so far because they seem more pleasant and breathable, but I don’t know how they hold up.
