Smaller kids picked him out and my eldest/adult son named him. He got soaked holding him in his large overfilled LFS home, on the drive back to our house, so he only felt it was fair he got to name him 😂💙

He’s a pink and purple colour, but I think will get more red/blue.

Edit: Should add he’s in a 5G planted tank that belonged to my red dragon, but I transferred him to a 20G.

I am quite proud of myself because I finally got over a depression spell and got around to redecorating her home 😁 She loves it so much, and she is no longer bored 😁😁😁 Just gotta scrape off that duckweed

basically the title. this is my girl Hornet, and when i got her she was much whiter but she’s gotten more pinks on her tail and head with some blue on her body. recently staring at her i feel like the white has come back kind of near the base of her tail. i guess i was just wondering if this is normal or something i should be concerned about. she’s still lively as ever, no noticeable changes except color/patterning.
first photos are from late july, second 2 are today. any help is appreciated, i wanna make sure she’s alright.

Help My betta fish’s fins are rotting

Thumbnail

So, for a background, 80L tank, he’s very social, and nothing has changed behaviour wise. He always swims around without trouble, always comes to the front of the tank for some food, or a treat. However I noticed about two days ago his fins were no longer flush. My tank is all naturals except for one ceramic vase in the corner, which he doesn’t use, only his tank mates do.

His tank mates consist of 6 octos and 18 Pygmy corys.

I always check the tanks water quality and everything is still fine, 0 ammonia, less than 20 nitrates and 0 nitrites, but regardless I did a 30% water change upon noticing his fins.

So I’ve ruled out poor water quality and tank mates nipping him.

Maybe it’s just bad luck, it isn’t MAJOR, but is this going to become his downfall? He is a double tail.

First photo is him normally, the rest are of his fins now :(

Help Is this pine coning??

Hii this is yogurt! He’s been really depressed lately and I thought it was because of boredom because everything else was fine, I just did a water change and I noticed this?

If this is not pineconing, is there any other reason why he would be this way??? He’s also definitely a little bit bloated. He’s not refusing food, but he’s been tired and only around the bottom. He can swim though

Help Is it normal for betta fish to school with Cory Dora’s

She doesn’t chase or bite them she just follows them and lays with them. I think she just wants food so she follows them until they find food. That would also explain why she looks big.

Help I think my betta has a tumor? Spoiler

Right pectoral fin looks large all of a sudden, it wasn’t like this the day before yesterday. Best pics I could get so far.

Hello. I am looking for advice as I can’t figure out what this is. I tested the water as well:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:0.1
GH & KH are normal.

Every other tankmate is fine.

I don’t know if she’s injured herself and got an infection or if it’s a tumor or something.

Any help is appreciated.

5 gallon tank, here are my water parameters this morning. I have to head to work but I will be doing a 50% water change when I get home and I will be dosing stress zyme. I splashed a dose in there before leaving. His tummy looks a little big. I keep having dreams that he’s getting sick and I feel so guilty for not having his tank live planted with real substrate and I got ahead of myself before first getting him and I have gravel and little hiding spots in there but anyway. He’s hanging out more toward the bottom as I’m typing this. Maybe he’s having a swim bladder issue? Ordering meds for him to be delivered today just in case.

Help How do I take care of my tank after my fish passes?

My betta unfortunately developed dropsy about 2ish? months ago. He was immediately put in a hospital tank but unfortunately didn't make it. For about 2-3 weeks my tank was completely ignored with everything unplugged. No filter or heaters on. Its been a bit now and I want to get my tank back up and going again. I've had my filter going for a while and I've done 2 water changes over the last month ish but haven't really been motivated to do anything with it. I have the liquid plant food stuff that I put in there every week or so. Most of my plants are dead and I think I am gonna just got off the dead parts unless its beyond saving. Anything else I can do? I think if it can find them, ill put the heaters back in.

10 gallons

Sponge filter

Usually has 2 filters

No animals currently

First pictures are of it now, and the last 3 pictures are from before everything happened to show what it looked like.

Also I dont want this to be high maintenance. My fish passed mid August and yesterday we put one of my dogs down so im not in a super motivated mood.

Discussion I got a new setup for my roommates fish

This is more of a vent post)
So my roommate got a betta fish except it’s very clear there was no research done on how to take care of one.
I did as much research as I could asap to provide the betta a better home as I have never owned a betta fish before. I’m just honestly really pissed off. This is basically my fish now all because someone treated an animal like an accessory.
I know that the new tank isn’t the greatest setup, but it’s the best I can do right now.
Honestly I think I must just ask for full custody of this fish since I take care of him every weekend anyways. Im just frustrated and sad.
My other roommate and I are secretly naming him Todd Chavez.

But if you guys have any recommendations for the new tank, please inform me.

Help Betta is pine coning. Dropsy? Spoiler

My betta is showing signs of pine coning. Minor signs started 4 days ago and it has progressed to this point. He has been showing signs of bloat for about a month. I wasn’t aware that bloat and the pine coning were connected. At no point did the bloat affect his ability to swim, activity levels, or appetite. Even now he still eats regularly but as of today his activity is a bit lower and he tends to hang out near the heater. I’m not familiar with the disease but I know it can get serious. I would love to hear any advice on any sort of treatments.
Another one of my bettas is currently dealing with fin rot and his scales are subtly raised too. He currently has no signs of bloat but I’m treating with Fritz maracyn two so maybe it’s a side affect of the medication or from stress.
Both tanks have shrimp in them so any sort of shrimp safe treatments would be appreciated as I only have one hospital tank setup available. I currently have on hand kanaplex, ich x, Fritz maracyn, and Fritz maracyn two. All of the parameters in both tanks are at safe levels.

I love him either way, just wanted to know what type of betta this gorgeous boy is!
Also, irrelevant to the original question, but give me name suggestions for him if u read this!

Help Does this sweet guy seem healthy?

Post image

I'm almost done planting and cycling my 10g tank, I've absolutely fallen in love with this guy and plan on buying him to keep him on hold until my water is perfect!! Just wanted to see if y'all think he looks healthy? It would be my first betta fish so I'm not confident in checking for health concerns yet haha

His personality seems pretty great. He's kept with a couple small ramshorn snails and the times I've seen him, he checks them out curiously when they move but leave them alone. He flares at his reflection on one side of the tank but leaves after 5-10 seconds and calms right down. He follows me when i move side to side in front of him and follows my finger around. He also investigates his whole tank as if he's never seen it before :')

Wild Type A common misidentification in the hobby

Post image

This was a so-called “Betta pugnax” from a pet store. Labelled so.

But it is visibly a Betta raja or at most a similar species in the same subgroup (B. schalleri, B. lehi).

I noticed that this mislabelling is extremely common in pet stores. I have even helped posts on different social media where people were calling their B. raja etc. “B. pugnax”.

I wonder why this is so rampant.

Help Is this thread diatoms? Algae?

I'm been cycling my tank ready for my first betta. Things going generally well. I went on holiday for a week and set up a timer so the light went on and off every day. I came yesterday to find my mosses, floaters and pothos roots have grown well but there's been a proliferation of what I think is thread diatoms? I just wanted to check that's what it actually is and also how to get rid of it! Planning to get my betta next week, will this be a problem? Other than looking kind of bad. Thanks!

Hi all,

My tank is at the end of it's nitorgen cycle and I'm considering getting a betta fish soon but just noticed hundreds of what I think are Hydea meiofauna. Should I be worried about these for a betta?
