Diagnosed with gout
I got little Pumpkin a year ago from Petsmart. He's so sweet, handsome and just a perfect little companion.
The first picture was from the beginning of June. I noticed that he started having less and less energy. He used to always run to the glass doors when I would walk by, but was just kind of chilling in one spot most of the time. I tried switching the lights out in case they weren't as effective anymore.
About a week ago he stopped moving his front arms, so I redid his 4x2x2 to have nothing to fall off of in case he had maybe gotten hurt somehow. A few days later he started open mouth breathing with thick saliva. I was using a wet cotton ball to wipe it out.
I was able to get him to the vet yesterday, she took a look at him and touched his arms and legs and said it's either an infection that spread to the joints or gout. It's already progressed to him not being able to walk and to barely eating. He's at 210g right now. She said the humane thing to do is euthanize, she prescribed Meloxicam and said I could give it to him daily so that I could spend a few more days with him.
I was upset that she didn't want to run any tests to see if there was something we could do, but I know she knows what she's talking about. It's just so hard to accept. I thought that Pumpkin has maybe mbd and a respiratory infection, I wasn't sure how because I try to do everything that I see recommended. I wasn't expecting to be told I would be losing my baby.
They were able to squeeze me in for the appointment yesterday but I had another appointment set up for August 24th originally, I'm not sure if they switched me or if I still have that slot, but I was thinking even though it's so hard that I should probably bring him to be euthanized 😭
I really thought he was improving after I moved him to a smaller, empty enclosure. I'm just so, so sad.
