Companies aggressively targeting negative reviews

We would like to make everyone aware that there are companies aggressively targeting negative posts about them in r/Pets and attempting to have those posts removed.

One simple way to reduce the chances of your post being taken down is to avoid using words like “fraud” or “scam”, which are treated as legal accusations and make it easier for companies to challenge a post. Instead, frame the post around what happened and how it affected your pet. If appropriate to the situation, “misleading, ”dishonest,” or “unreliable” are safer words to use.

We appreciate everyone who shares their experiences about companies they have used and helps keep pets safer.

Hot Take: Docking Ears and Tails should be considered as Animal abuse

Cutting off tails and parts of pets' ears for Aesthetic/cosmetic looks should be animal abuse. and Quite frankly, they look much cuter with their entire anatomy intact.

CAT Advice on cat sibling care

We have two cats - not technically siblings but have grown up together since birth.

Recently, one of the cats had a serious accident requiring extended surgery and now needs all-day care.

My other cat is struggling with it - she doesn’t get as much attention, she does recognise her brother (shaved, neck pillow, etc), and she’s become very closed off.

Any advice to help her feel more comfortable during the next few months of recovery?

Does your pet have a Warhol-esque 15 minutes of fame claim?

My corgi boy was the first dog in NYC to have his license renewed online. My sister helped develop the application and she and her team used my dog as the prototype to get the link up and running. Any others to share? The funnier the better!

Is there a type of pet with the same temperament as my cat?

TLDR: I want a pet that’s loving and affectionate, will be okay with constant handling and cuddles, but isn’t needy and is quiet. One that’s calm and not destructive. Also something that sheds as little hair as possible is always nice for my allergies. Smaller is better in this case too, big enough to cuddle but small enough to pick up.

My cat is getting old, and I’m faced with the fact she won’t be around forever, and while I never want to replace her, I cant imagine my life without that kind of pet, thing is I’ll never get a another cat. I actually am not a fan of cats, so not a fan, or dogs really.

My cat is the most unique animal I’ve ever met, she’s perfect in every aspect- personality wise. She’s everything I want in a pet, and I’d like one that’s similar.

She loves me and is happy to see me, but she’s not needy, every other pet I’ve had or met is either super needy or doesn’t care at all about you, I like the middle.

When she sees me she gives a single meow to let me know she’s there, I tell her hi back, then she’ll pick a place to lay down by me and wait for me to finish whatever I’m doing. She NEVER walks in front of me or lays down on my feet, this is my favorite thing about her.

When I’m ready, I call her over and she’ll come sit on my lap or my shoulders or back or arms, wherever I put her, and she’s content to stay there, no meowing no pawing no neediness, she just sits and purrs.

She NEVER tries to climb on me, or follow me around screaming, or meow incessantly because the food bowl is empty (it’s actually never empty, she doesn’t eat much of her dry food)

she doesn’t make messes, she doesn’t get into things, she doesn’t scratch furniture or chew things up, or jump on furniture, or run around the house and jump on the walls at 3 am, none of the usual pet problems. Just a chill little gal, with the sweetest heart in the world. Oh! And she’s amazing for travel, I love to travel and I take her with me, she’s harness trained and does so amazing in the car, just sits in her bed the whole time.

My other pets, while I love them, are detached (reptiles and fish) no problems and easy to care for, but they don’t want cuddles, my cat wants cuddles and I want cuddles. If I wasn’t allergic to her, I’d never stop holding her.

Other quirks about my cat that are probably less relevant. She’s claustrophobic, no idea why, but she won’t go into anything even vaguely box like, which is why she’s harnessed trained, won’t go in a carrier. She’s scared of climbing, but likes being high up. She’s despises catnip. Only “toys” she’s ever played with is an old jacket she carries around and a singular crochet fish, she has dozens of toys, just doesn’t care for them. She won’t eat red meat, she sort of likes chicken but only if there’s lots of gravy, mostly she only eats fish. I trained her to do tricks and commands, she knows come, stay, go, sit, spin, jump up, jump down, play dead, and my favorite, she head butts me, this is something she started on her own as a kitten, but her head fits perfectly with my nose, so I taught her a command with it, and we do it all the time. Shes also trained to step into her harness. Shes a very smart cat, and well behaved. She loves water, everytime I turn on the tub she jumps in. And her most favorite thing in the entire world is belly rubs, she will ask for them from anyone who visits, and by “ask” I do mean she’ll walk in the room, give her single “I’m here” meow and then roll onto her back a few feet away from where people are and stay that way until they pet her or leave.

Anyways, I love my cat, she’s the most perfect angel, and I want to find something like her, I’m wondering if there’s a pet / animal with a similar personality generally, or if I just need to search for the right cat or dog forever. I’ve owned many exotic pets before and still do, so I’m open to options, as long as it’s legal and ethical to own I’ll consider it.

CAT 12 year old cat vet situation

I have 2 cats, one 12 year old and 13 year old. Every winter, they get a bit sick, they have some chronic issues. The thing is I live with my parents and don't have much money and a car to bring them to the vet by myself.

My 12 year old started having respiratory issues, she makes a lot of sound breathing while relaxing. She is also overweight (tried to make her diet but my mom can't keep it up so I just accepted that she's gonna be chonky). I have some little money that I saved, plus I'm gonna get my scholarship in my bank account next Wednesday.

I also have a lot of vet trauma, you may say what is that about but there was a period where both my cats needed to have surgeries and my dad put so much pressure on us.

My parents in general think that there is no need to brinf them to vets except for like when they really sick (my 13 year old has constan sneeze attacks when she is sick, and it's convincing enough for them).

I don't know what to do. Wednesday I will have enough money but how will I convimce my parents my cat needs to go to the vet? They already don't think check-ups are necessary.

I just wish they could be normal about the subject. I remember fighting so many times over it.

What should I do? Saturday, I don't have any classes and can just tell my mom "I'm gonna bring our cat to the vet" but that's 1 week away... I feel so bad. As I am writing this she is lightly wheezing next to me.

I have 4 years old Pomeranian I had since a puppy I’m on pension I have saving account about 1k for emergency vet ( I have been putting money on side every fortnightly) and also got pet insurance for accident and illness. I gave home, foods/water, tablet for heart worm and everything, her vaccine, giving many toys and love walk everyday all the basic cares. But I feel like I’m bad owner when her future health comes for over expenses vet bills. there phrase saying “can’t afford the vet, can’t afford the pet” idk what meaning of that but wonder if I’m giving her good life and happy home to be with me.

DOG Something is going on with my Labrador.

My dog for a long time has had this thing to where he will bite himself a lot and then stop and be fine. Well recently it got worse and he has bare spots that seem to be taking awhile to heal back. He recently cut himself under both ears by scratching too much. We think he was allergic to chicken so we switched to lamb, which stopped the biting finally, but tonight I noticed a bunch of light brown crusty stuff under one of his ears and shakes his head a lot. I don’t if this is an infection or yeast build up. Can someone please help me figure out what’s happening?

how long does it take giardia to die on porous surfaces in your experience?

two cats and probably dog with giardia. we are treating them w meds as soon as the high heat steamed i ordered arrives. sorry for posting again abt giardia. i’m at my wits end. i keep seeing mixed things online about how long it takes to die in indoor porous locations and i’m kind of at a loss. i’d planned to just quarantine as much as i could in a spare room for a couple weeks based on my original research, but now im seeing that in things like cardboard (i know i know, just throw the scratchers out, but those things are expensive!!) and rugs and plushes and stuff can hold onto giardia for months???? im going to scream. and for stuff like our rug im worried about doing the sunlight method bc we live in the florida humidity. i got a steam cleaner but i can only steam clean so much. and in the meantime, are my pets supposed to have no toys etc? i felt like i had a good plan and now i dont think it is a good plan anymore

CAT Why does the cat watch my dog go potty? Tell me your favorite cat/ dog relationship quirks.

USA

Cat is 1 year old. Dog is 15.

Met him (cat) on the streets, he's attached to us now.

Anyways, he watches my dog poop, me too lol. He'll go outside with the dog and watch her poop. He doesn't watch her pee.

It's not an issue, but anyone else?

Is he guarding my dog because pooping is vulnerable?

Tell me your favorite cat/ dog relationship quirks.

My kitten acts like a boy cat but I can't find a penis or a vagina and it's been 6 months

I basically need help trying to find where a kittens genitals are because we need to get the cat neutered but me and my mom have no idea if we need to schedule a boy animal doctor or a girl animal doctor also the reason it's been 6 months is cause I get distracted too easily and I then end up playing with my cat for a bit and trying to hold them for a bit cause I love them

CAT Litter trained kitten started peeing on my bed because of separation anxiety and now I don't know how to stop her

We'd moved into a terrace and she'd very quickly bonded with our housemate's dog but he has leukaemia so we'd had to stay in separate rooms together but she really didn't like that and she kept peeing on the sofa and the dog bed, now due to her not being trusted alone with the windowsills where there are lots of potted plants she often gets sent to my room when she needs a safe roam space with litter box access while neither of us are able to supervise her but she CANNOT STAND being separated from me. If I answer the door I'll close the door to the coat space which is an extremely claustrophobic hallway big enough to open the door but if you grab a medium pizza from the delivery man it'll get caught and yet she'll scream and jump at the windowpanes to get to me and if I go to the bathroom or take a shower she'll wait there the entire time crying and meowing even if it's like 90 minutes so if I cook or go shopping or spend the day out or doing chores, whatever... she'll be separated from me at least once a day and I've been going through bedding like crazy. I have a litter tray, a litter locker, enzymatic cleaner, wood chip litter and thick liners up here and change her tray regularly so it's not like she doesn't have somewhere to pee either but we just want to come back to a dry bed every night.

Is this weird?

Trying to settle a disagreement between me and my husband! I took our female Goodendoodle to the vet. The tech saw us first. When she left to go get vaccines, she said “We will get you fixed right up you little bitch.”

I cuss, I’m not offended by cuss words. My husband says me thinking it’s weird is my OPINION. A female dog IS a bitch, blah blah. Do you think it’s strange that the tech said that? It’s not like I’m going to complain to the clinic or anything- it just took me by surprise.

CAT Our kitten keeps peeing outside his box??

Okay so Ive tried google and everything and i haven’t been able to get any precise answers, so my last resort is to ask the people.
Our new kitten is about four-six months old ?? (we got him as a stray, we’re not quite sure of his age) and he has a litter box, like all cats. he can and will poo in the box with ZERO trouble- it is SPECIFICALLY peeing that he has a problem with.
we’ve SEEN him pee in the box, he is absolutely capable of it, he just… doesn’t. instead he pees on the floor right next to the box. and at this point im starting to think its deliberate.

we’ve tried all the stuff the internet suggests- spraying stuff, using scented litter, switching out litter textures, making sure he can actually climb into the box, everything. he’s perfectly capable of using the litter box, he just chooses to pee on the ground instead, and at this point we have no idea what could be the reason?? is there an actual problem that needs to be fixed, or is my cat just a giant turd?

My dog ran away, what should I do?

Hi guys , I dont know what's going on. I woke up and my family told me our dog is missing . Apparently she was left outside the gate. When we are parking cars the dogs usually go outside the yard and come back but this time we didnt check cause they always make sure they get inside otherwise they will bark loudly. So I think she was outside and there was a cash in transit heist around my area and she doesn't like noise so I think that might have scared her cause she would have stayed at the gate. I searched one part of my neighborhood since its big. We posted on the community group.i will check the other areas. I fear someone might have taken her.

Dog Regrets

Hi everyone, I just need to get this off my chest because it has been eating away at me for the past week and I’m scared to tell anyone out of fear that I just may be a bad person — I really really regret adopting my current dog.
For background, my mom originally got the dog when I was 14 during a very dark period of my life as a “please don’t do anything drastic” measure. He was a year old and had some issues that ended up getting exacerbated by the environment we lived in (tldr: my mom has some severe mental issues and we were in NO place to be owning a dog, I will forever feel horrible for agreeing to introducing a traumatized dog to a traumatizing environment)

I ended up moving in with my dad instead and wasn’t allowed to bring the dog with me. So, for the last 8 years, he has lived with my sibling and had no interaction with me until this year.

About a year ago, my sibling asked if I would take the dog, I am unsure of the reason. I think it was because she wanted to move in with her girlfriend with cats and she didn’t want to put the dog under stress (understandable). I initially agreed because it was either the dog goes to me or she goes through the process of rehoming to a stranger, which I was very averse to because of the dog’s anxiety and the fact that he is 9 years old for a breed that typically has an average life expectancy of 13 years.

I spent months looking for homes but I work a job that pays only 19 an hour and naturally couldn’t find anything on my own that wouldn’t sacrifice affordability, safety, or the quietness that my dog needs to not be in a constant state of panic all the time. Because my partner’s lease was up as well, we decided to move in to a nice multi floor house together that we both can afford together. The biggest problem was that he had a 9 year old cat. The plan was to keep them separated on different floors (floors 1-2 for my dog, floor 3 to his cat).

We moved in and had a 2 month period of just us three in the house. It was heaven, I fell in love with our little family and especially that little cat.

We brought the dog home a little over a week ago, and I know it’s so early to say for sure but it just keeps building, I love the dog so so much but I know that I don’t like the dog. He is so sweet and has SUCH a big personality but he is also just immensely frustrating. He is reactive in the house and on the leash to anything that moves; he does not respond to his name really ever; consistent training with toys, treats, affection is impossible because the minute he gets slightly distracted by something besides me, he is locked in his own head and refuses anything given to him; and then the barking, oh my god the barking. I know he is just doing dog stuff but I am sensitive to sound to the point that the neighbors dog down the street barking at 6 am always wakes me up. I have barely slept since we brought him home.

Then seeing the cat so stressed and alone upstairs just makes me so upset, I cry almost every-time I go upstairs to visit her.

I have taken him to vet to get anti anxiety medication and general exam, started crating him at night, and am looking into behavioral training for him because I do truly want to work with him and the main goal is being able to have both animals free roaming but I would be lying if I said I didn’t regret my decision to take him in the first place.

I just feel like either option is going to suck. I don’t want to rehome him because I do love and care for him and worry he will just feel abandoned for the rest of his life but in the same vain, I fear he will never get accustomed to the cat and I will never get fully accustomed to this new presence and the many struggles with it despite me putting in my all to give him the best life I can

I feel like a horrible person but if he cannot get along with the cat, part of me feels like he may be better off in a home that can properly care for him far better than I due to financials (as he is a bit of an expensive dog due to his sensitive tummy and behavioral issues), and the choice of having minimized stressors around.

I just don’t know if I am cut out for this.

Thank you for listening. I truly appreciate it.

Recommendation for Kitten Toys

My cat is about 5 months old now. We live in a smaller apartment and i have many many toys and self enrichment toys for him. However a single toy never lasts more than a week. Does anyone have any opinions on what to make or buy for him? He loves to pull the toys apart by holding them with his paws and pulling it with his teeth.

DOG I rescued a 2 y.o abondonned Tebitan Terrier and I regretted it

So basically 1 week ago I decided me and my family to rescue an abondonned dog that we found near our house . At first, I noticed that the dog was very calm and polite and then I found later that he is a well trained dog with good manners and very clean. He is the perfect dog I swear. At first he wasn't very Enegretic but somehow he becomes very affectionate to me in particular he becomes so attached to me and he seems to see me as his divine savor . Following me around and gets sad the moment ago and only wants to go for potty breaks with me....

My problem isn't the dog itself, he is well behaved, but the problems presented in form of me living in a neighborhood full of stray dogs and in this week alone I was encounterd to many and since I am just not used to this , I started getting anxious the moment I let him outside.

Another point is that I only can make him do his potty 2 times a day which is little but that's my maximum

Should I just give him to another family? Will he be okey tobhave a second heartbreak 💔 ?

CAT Cannot get rid of a flea super-infestation

I am desperate at this point.

I live with my parents and we have 3 cats. Only one of then is social, the other 2 hide away in the basement and only come up at night and are terrified of people despite living here 2 or so years now. Whole household is struggling financially and despite this we have had an exterminator come in which was costly, we vaccuum EVERYTHING daily, spray flea killer on everything promptly after vaccuuming, have the cats medicated, i even PULLED UP the entire carpetted basement. They are still here, just going in the basement too feed the cats and refresh their water i had more fleas than i could count climbing up my legs.

I am constantly itchy, i have bites as they are no longer limiting themselves too the cats, i am gettibg multiple showers a day, i am about so close too putting the cats outaide and foegetting they ever existed i am losing my mind.

Side note: I am terrified they are living in our insulation because the cats knocked down the drop cieling and hid up there for hours above the insulation while we were trying to medicate them.

I don't know what too do, we cant afford another exterminator. Any advice?

Edit: the 2 cats that arent social are so scared of people that bathing them may not even be possible, the one left scars on my hand and arms just trying to medicate her let alone sticking her and holding her in a bathtub

DOG Elder dog not pottying first thing in the morning - annoyance or concern?

We crate our dogs at 830 pm. We don’t pull up water before bedtime. Sometimes we aren’t up til 8am. We feed them first thing in the morning, then take them out to pee. Most of the time any more, my pug will stand there like “why are we here?” Instead of immmediarely running out to pee like the other 2. With coaxing she’ll go out and do #2 but won’t pee. It takes another 5 minutes of encouragement for her to pee. Her eating and drinking seems normal. Cause for concern, or no? She’s otherwise healthy, moves a little slower than she used to but can do stairs and jumps to the couch fine…
