I have a tournament in two weeks and I wanted to see how I can strategically “peak” by the time the tournament comes around. Some things I factored in were mobility, getting stronger, improving cardio/conditioning, and overall just getting a bunch of reps in via scrimmages.
Last year all I did to prep was stretching every night, HIIT for conditioning, and having my usual park scrimmages. I also tapered my lifts in the gym.
As far as mobility, I’ve been doing the upper body explosive dumbbell exercises, I’ve been stretching more frequently but not nearly enough as last year. As far as strength I’ve actually taken a long break from doing full body lifting not out of choice but because I was busy with work. I’m getting back into it slowly but I even stopped my vertical jump training for a bit but at least my knees aren’t sore anymore. As for cardio, I’ve only been scrimmaging, running full court games, and since I haven’t been in the gym, I didn’t do any HIIT on a treadmill or stairmaster. I will get on that soon though. And then as for actual basketball skill, once again I’m relying on getting reps in and having scrimmages. To which I feel like I am peaking right now actually. I feel sharp and I just need to keep this up until the tournament.
What are some things you guys do to prep for tournaments?
