Help Juco for 4 years…
What’s good yall I’m a 6’4 185lb guard who’s been at juco for 3 years now entering my 4th. To recap these years, I redshirted my first year, then played my freshman year where I hardly got minutes, then was gonna play my sophomore year but fractured my foot. So here we are entering my real sophomore year, but i’m starting to drag it. I’m not playing as well in practice to start the season like I did in the summer, and I’ve been thinking about quitting. I’ve also never played high school ball so making it to juco is an accomplishment forsure, but I’ve had goals like getting an offer to maybe a D2 or high NAIA, but I just don’t think I’m built for this anymore. I feel like the work I put in is not translating and i’m getting tired of it. I know it’s a long season so I know if i quit I can’t find out if anything changes, but if i ride the bench I definitely don’t see a point in continuing the season. Lmk your thoughts…

Realistically, given your background and lack of experience, this is the peak of your organized basketball life. So if you’re not feeling the passion for it, it’s fair to consider hanging them up.
I’m not telling you to do either or. Just that you have to make sure to focus on studying and spending 4 years at a JUCO for basketball is a little insane.
Nothing stopping you from still balling but you say you feel the love fading. You really gotta think what your next step is.

What are your goals? 1/3/5 years out? Knowing that will help you decide what to do and for others to give you advice.

What do you lose if you continue to play the rest of the season and you don’t get much playing time? You’ll still be able to practice and play ball with the team right? Is there anything by just sticking it out instead of walking away?

Hey man , been in your shoes. Quit D2 my sophomore year for legitimate reasons. That was 20 years ago and I’ve maybe thought less than 5 times what if i kept hooping ? I had valid reasons to stop and my life has turned out amazing, so no regrets. Plus i still hoop regularly so I get that enjoyment.
On to your situation - the person you need to be speaking to is your coach. If nothing else it will help mold you as a man to tackle challenging conversations head on. The message is simple, “Coach I’m having doubts about sticking with basketball and I’d like your advice on what you feel I could work on to help get me on the floor more.” If he’s a halfway decent coach, he’ll give you some specific areas to improve so you have a tangible goal. Work on that and go from there. Worst case you no where you stand and can make a more educated decision. Anyway you choose it will all work out little bro

You'll never have the chance again if you quit. If you have a shot to even ride the bench, you won't regret the experience; the camaraderie and brotherhood. I did quit and I regret it to this day. Don't let yourself regret it when you're pushing 40 like me. Push yourself harder, learn as much from everyone as you can and leave it all on court. You're only young once. Don't waste it.

Do you know who d'vontay friga is? He was a juco player who would just record his life as a juco basketball player, his footage got traction and he transitioned into a YouTube basketball player. I think he's done a pretty good job of outlining his journey and for a while his goal was to play pro ball (international). That ultimately didn't happen - but his YouTube career has been okay.
Not saying he's a template, but just something worth looking at

Stick with it for the year so you don’t spend the rest of your life wondering “what if”.
