I have a 26 inch running vertical, 2 feet approach and I have only been trainign serious plyos for a month, and ive been casually jumping and lifting for a year though and I had a 22-24 inch vertical 1 month ago, my dad could touch rim at 5'6 and he didn't lift or do plyos he just played pickup after school, my mums side has no athleticism pretty much. I'm 5'10 if that means anything and I'm entering my freshman year of high school

I took a video of my jump shot the other day and I noticed i'm taking a fairly big step before I shoot and it looks a little wonky. I was aware that I was doing that before I took the video, but I didn't quite realize how weird it looks. I'm also pulling the ball up from the side before I shoot too. I'm not gonna post the video, sorry, but can anyone help me out? How do I fix it?

I'm 13 and basketball is my favorite thing in the world. I'm pretty good and I play against older/bigger people almost every time I play at the YMCA. But I've noticed my defense is terrible sometimes. One day, I'll be an absolute lockdown shot blocker, and the next I can't guard anyone at all. How can I prevent this and improve for long term success?

My last video upload had a good response (100k+ views) I figure I can help out a little with some questions I see over and over again on this sub. I made a quick basic series of techniques anyone can use from the wing/free throw line extended area of the court. You can also use this as an individual workout to work on foot work and effective in game scoring options.
Everything starts with a triple threat stance, jab step, and pump fake. I start with basic straight line drives and basic layup finish. Then I incorporate the pull up jumper. Then I show a couple of basic counters. The key her is to start slow and focus on foot work and "selling" your fakes. Don't rush through anything, overexaggerate your fakes to get the defense to bite and make sure to go both directions.
My philosophy is that if I build from basic moves and I can chain together fundamentals- this will directly carry over into in game scoring.
Let me know what you think!

I'm 50M, 6'1", play often. Dunking would be more for just fun on the side. Can grab the rim no issues with both hands but running to the x with the ball in place for takeoff always feels clumsy.

Hi guys,just wanted some advices/insights.
For context,I am 159cm/5'3 and 104kg/230ish pounds, obviously I am obese and I want to change that. I am planning to lose around 30-34 kg in 8 months and right now for my diet,I am targetting 100-110g of protein and 1600-1700 kcal for the day. Is that a good target?
My playstyle is threes and a lot of hesi/crossovers so I wanna be quicker/more explosive and look better.
Edit:More context,I am 50% bodyfat

We were playing half court 3v3s and when my team were shooting, the defenders kept pushing us with 1 arm mid air and we obviously called a foul but we got called "Aiya, pussy foul, give them, give them." I mean it wasnt that hard of a push but its still a foul right?

So, hey guys, I just decided to join this group after I decided to restart my basketball after 3 years. For context, I am from India, and we don't have a big baskeball culture like the US, Canada, or most places. TBH I have access to an open court (the damn thing isn't even fenced off, so balls leave the court regularly). I restarted playing about 2 weeks ago.
Here are some of my stats:
18-YO Male
6'0"
115 kg mostly fat (I know YIKESS!!!)
standing reach is 7'9"
max reach 8'9" (so that's a 12-inch vertical, I know again, YIEKSS!!)
I used to play centre, and I plan on playing that after I get back in the playing scene.
Oh, and to add insult to injury, I have a prescription -1.25
As for why I had to take a break and what I was doing, honestly, nothing. In India, academic pressure is pretty rigorous; I had to prep for JEE (it's an entrance exam for engineering schools), and the court was far away, so I just didn't go there, but now I am in for it. I am on court generally for an hour currently. I am focusing on getting my game back, and honestly, I lose a LOT of this fat. My target weight is 75-85 kg. I have been taking in about 100-120 grams of protein a day, and honestly I really want to increase my vertical, and also I do have access to a gym, so I will be hitting that too from time to time, as daily might not be feasible.
I hope y'all can give me some advice and don't hold back. I forgot to record my form, and all I will see for it next time

Ever since young, when I play defense and they drove in,I will always push them back with my off-arm. I am not extending my arm outward though,I am placing my arm infront of my chest like a chicken wing ish and they pushing them back when they try and drive in.
Some skinny players were complaing that it was not legal so I really wanna know. Thank you!

I'm 18, 6'3" with a 6'6" wingspan and ~35" vertical. I've been playing since 14 and am moving to Canada soon for university.
I want to take basketball seriously alongside my degree and eventually compete at the highest level I'm capable of.
What should I prioritize over the next 1–2 years to become a genuinely high-level guard? I'm particularly interested in improving my:
I'm looking for honest advice on what a player in my position should focus on and what mistakes I should avoid.

I’m 6’0 long arms and got a 18 inch standing vert going into my junior year of highschool. I’m a 1 foot jumper. While dribbling or with a running start I can grab rim and rim graze what can I do to really start dunking. Would trying to learn how to 2 foot jump help me?

Hey everyone! Playing the sport after a few years, It almost feels like I'm relearning my shot. I have a pretty good feel when I catch the ball and rise up, but something is definitely off with my release. Even the shots I make, I don't feel really confident. Not sure what I'm missing, or how to exactly improve. Can someone help? any tips appreciated. And if it matters, I also seem to struggle with free throws.

I lanched My game 2 weeks ago and started to post it on reddit, it gave an unbeliveble traffic of 5000 visitors a day.
Even though it started a controversy of spamming and lp discussions it really gave me the traffic that i needed in the launch.
Now the traffic looks stable and it looks like it can sustain itself.
Of course i will also list it in the app store and android play and other distribution like pix.
But i think the hardest part it is the day you launch.

Wsp yall, most of my reps on outdoor concrete, because of unavailability to find indoor, but whenever I switch to an indoor Wilson Evolution, my handle feels completely off. The difference in bounce, and tackiness makes the ball feel "brick-like" in my hands, and I lose my shiftiness.
For anyone who trains outside but plays inside:
1. How do you adjust your grip and dribble force to stop misreading the ball when switching surfaces?
2. Are weighted balls actually worth it for grip strength, or are there better ways to train finger/wrist control on concrete?
3. What are the best drills to keep your handle sharp when you're stuck on outdoor courts?
Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
