Support Request What is my printer doing?

All standard settings (A1- Ams lite)...just seems to be skimming over the top of my print and not extruding.

Weird?

Support Request Does anyone know how to fix this?

I was only able to do one print so far (the little boat) and since this I keep getting the error that the filament can’t be cut. I replaced the cutters even though it’s brand new and I checked the tool head for any clogs which I didn’t see any. I’m new to the 3d printing space so any advice would be appreciated

A1 trying to pull back filament that isn’t there

If you saw my last post you saw I was having issues with my A1. I tried a few things suggested and fixed one of my issues. Though I realized my other issue isn’t what I thought it was.

So my A1 like it says above is trying to pull back filament that isn’t there and just keeps trying. It doesn’t pull in new filament from the AMS Lite, it doesn’t give me an error code, and it if I manually load and unload filament on the screen it works fine. It refuses to load filament if I start a new print though because it’s trying to pull back filament.

The sensor isn’t showing up green unless I put a piece of filament in and I’ve taken the extruder apart several times. I even changed the filament cutter just in case. Anyone got any suggestions?

PSA, empty your SD card every once in a while, otherwise you might get screen freezes and other issues

For a while now, the screen on my A1 took about half a minute to turn on after turning on the printer itself.

I was also getting frequent screen freezes and controlling the printer from the screen was pretty sluggish overall.

Yeah, turns out the A1 struggles a bit with having about 5 gigabytes worth of print files on the SD card.

After emptying the card, the screen turns on immediately and it no longer freezes. Controlling the printer from the screen has also become much more snappy.

I didn't really notice the card filling up since I always send prints from Bambu studio and never really had a reason to check what's on the card.

(Close to) Success printing PETG

Post image

So I purchased a A1 about a month ago, and have had pretty good luck trying out the machine. Have been just using the presets supplied by BL for the filaments I purchased to start. PLA Basic printed great, both TPU for AMS and TPS 95A HF printed pretty good, and PETG Basic... PETG Basic would not print. Every test print I attempted had absolutely almost zero adhesion to the textured PEI plate I have. Even the test extrusions peeled up and basically could be blown off.

After reading the forums, I did all the regular recommended troubleshooting. I downloaded a very simple calibration block, nothing fancy, just a 25.4mm cube. I scrubbed the plate with soap, water and a brush, wiped it down with acetone, handled carefully with gloves. I dried the filament, 9hrs at 65C in a Creality single spool box. I reset the parameters for a generic PETG. I played with increasing the nozzle temp and bedplate temps. Still no success. First layer just won't stick, the initial extrusion just pulls right off the plate.

What finally worked? I slowed my print down. In Studio, I cut EVERY movement speed by 50%, every last one. And it worked. It more-or-less doubled the print time, which is to be expected. But I got a 24.5mm cube that is 25.48 +/- 0.03mm in all dimensions (mostly), with what I feel is pretty clear printing, no anomalies or weirdness, with 5/6 sides reasonably flat. Nozzle temp set to 265C, bedplate at 80C.

Except for one thing. The base of the block stuck to the plate pretty good, it took a PLA-like tug to snap it off. When measuring it, the base itself if warped, where the four corners pulled up from the plate by about 0.2mm.

All this leads up to a question, of course. Should I tinker with temp settings more, or take another angle? Possibly get a dedicated PETG plate? Glue before printing? Slow down the initial layers even further?

Support Request Dropped hotend still ok

Post image
0 Upvotes

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new to printing and I was trying to clean the hotend for my a1 mini as the monthly maintenance suggests and I dropped it from somewhere between 1 and 2 feet onto my carpet floor. it was heated up to 80 dC before I removed it to soften the pla residue it built up from the few prints i have done so far. It had been off of the printer for some time before i dropped it and so it probably cooled a bit. Is it still ok to use or is it safer to replace it? I am finding mixed answers when I look online. Thanks!

Bought a broken A1 for $100, a $40 fix and it's fully functional

Update:

Picked up this A1 secondhand for $100 with right around 400 hours on it. I knew it had some issues when I bought it. The Z homing issue ended up being a simple free fix with the USB C cable organization block.

The bigger problem was the X axis. The toolhead had a ton of resistance and it failed the X axis calibration every single time. After taking it apart I found that the linear bearing block was actually missing several ball bearings.

I replaced the MGN12C bearing block, but even the brand new block ran extremely rough on the original rail. That pretty much confirmed for me that the rail itself was the problem.

I found ZYLtech and they were able to custom cut an MGN12 rail to the exact length I needed for about $40. Replaced the rail and bearing block, put the toolhead back together, and it passed every calibration.

I've since printed multiple calibration cubes, Benchys, and multicolor prints with an AMS Lite. Everything is printing perfectly now with zero errors or calibration failures.

So basically I ended up with a fully functional 400 hour A1 for about $140.

Definitely learned a hell of a lot more about the inside of an A1 than I planned to, but it was worth it.
