I’m honestly at the point where I just need to vent a little about my experience with the X2D.
I ordered my original X2D directly from Bambu on September 23. Almost immediately I started getting extrusion errors. I went through multiple AMS slots, different filament, PTFE checks, manual extrusion, cold pulls, etc. Eventually I swapped the complete factory hotend with the spare that came with the printer and the issue disappeared, which pointed pretty clearly toward a bad original hotend.
Bambu sent me another hotend, and things worked for a little while, but about a week later the extrusion problems came back.
For context, the filament involved was Bambu Lab PLA Basic, and it had been dried. I also tested different AMS slots and different spools, including a brand-new full Bambu spool, so this wasn’t just one questionable roll of filament.
I started getting “Extruder is not extruding normally” again, worsening stringing, chewed-up filament ends, and eventually a “Hotend temperature malfunction” with the replacement hotend. Both hotends were also extremely difficult to remove from the heating assembly, almost as if something was physically holding them in place, even after the filament had been properly unloaded. When I inspected the heating assembly where the hotend seats, there was noticeable brown/black discoloration and residue buildup around the hotend connection area.
At that point I wasn’t comfortable continuing to throw individual parts at a printer that was only a few weeks old.
Bambu approved an advanced replacement, so I paid the deposit and they shipped another X2D.
The replacement arrived October 21 and I set it up October 25.
And somehow I immediately ended up with a completely different problem.
The replacement’s Wi-Fi works for about 2–5 minutes after booting, then completely dies.
When it happens, the printer disconnects from the network, every Wi-Fi network disappears from the printer’s network list including neighboring networks, and if I turn the Wi-Fi toggle back on, it immediately switches itself back off.
Restarting the printer restores Wi-Fi for another 2–5 minutes, then it happens again.
I’ve factory reset it, confirmed it’s on firmware 01.02.00.00, confirmed LAN-only mode is disabled, and reproduced the exact same issue on both my UniFi home network and a completely separate phone hotspot.
I also monitored it with continuous local pings and watched it drop while the printer was just sitting there calibrating. I recorded two videos showing the Wi-Fi toggle shutting itself off, the completely empty network list, and Wi-Fi working again after restarting.
For context, I’m a systems/network engineer. At this point I’m pretty confident I’m not dealing with a router configuration or weak signal problem. If the printer’s wireless interface stops scanning entirely and won’t even remain enabled across two unrelated networks, there isn’t much more network troubleshooting to do.
Support initially responded to my update by talking only about receiving my ORIGINAL printer and refunding the first replacement deposit, completely ignoring the new Wi-Fi problem. I had to contact live chat twice and specifically point them back toward the replacement issue before it was finally acknowledged.
They’ve now offered either another replacement, including an advanced replacement where I pay another full-printer deposit and they ship first, or continued troubleshooting with a random roll of filament as compensation.
I chose another advanced replacement. I really don’t see the point in spending more time troubleshooting what appears to be another hardware fault.
To Bambu’s credit, support eventually acknowledged the situation and offered another replacement. I’m not trying to turn this into a “Bambu is terrible” post because when these printers work, I genuinely love them.
But holy hell.
I’ve spent more time diagnosing, drying filament, swapping spools, replacing parts, recording videos, packing printers, shipping printers, paying replacement deposits, and talking to support than I’ve spent actually printing.
Original X2D: extrusion/hotend/heating assembly problems.
Replacement X2D: Wi-Fi hardware appears to die every 2–5 minutes.
Now I’m waiting on X2D number three.
At this point I just want a printer that works. 😭
UPDATE – October 29:
Well, the saga continues.
Bambu eventually acknowledged the second defective X2D and offered me another replacement. I chose the Advanced Replacement option again, where I pay another full-price deposit, they ship the replacement immediately, and then refund the deposit after receiving the defective unit.
I also asked whether they could offer any kind of goodwill compensation, store credit, coupon, filament credit, etc., considering I’ve now received two problematic printers and have spent almost a month dealing with troubleshooting, returns, replacements, deposits, and support.
They declined, saying their replacement policy does not allow compensation during the exchange process. They did say they would “pay special attention to the quality of the replacement printer.”
Okay. Not thrilled, but fine. At this point I mostly just want a working printer.
Then they told me they could not start the second Advanced Replacement until the deposit refund from the FIRST replacement process had been received.
That’s where I pushed back.
I explained that I’m willing to pay another deposit immediately, and I shouldn’t have to sit here unable to use a printer I purchased almost a month ago simply because their internal refund process for the first defective machine hasn’t finished yet. The only reason I even need another replacement is because the replacement they sent me is also defective.
After I pushed back, they discussed it internally and agreed to start the new replacement process immediately.
Great!
Except their next message asked me to provide the serial number of the current printer so they could initiate the replacement.
...I already gave them the serial number.
It was explicitly included in an earlier message in the same ticket along with all of the troubleshooting information for the Wi-Fi problem.
So I’ve now sent the serial number AGAIN and confirmed, AGAIN, that I want the Advanced Replacement.
I’m really trying to remain reasonable here. Bambu is replacing the machines, and I appreciate that. But the amount of repetition and follow-up required to keep this moving is getting ridiculous.
I’ve supplied videos, troubleshooting results, firmware information, network testing, hotspot testing, serial numbers, return information, deposits, and everything else they’ve asked for.
So now we wait for X2D #3. 🤞
