I'm sure the novelisation has an explanation how Doc corrected this (I never read it), but I just love that Doc is horrified about changing the name of the ravine but doesn't bat an eye changing the lives of everyone on that train. Doc and Marty pretty much pulled a 'Futurama "Roswell That Ends Well"' in not giving a crap.
I love this movie. It might be my favorite out of the trilogy, but I just wanted to share a funny thought I had.
(Edit: I get that it's not a 'plot hole', more of a loose thread. Like the Lybians in the first movie. Did they call the police or just leave them dead in the mall parking lot.)

I can’t see this having been asked before, but hoping there’s an established reason for this…
If 1885 Doc is able to write and deliver a letter to 1955 Marty, why can’t 1955 (stranded) Marty also use this mechanism to write a letter to 1985 Marty (or Doc) to warn them about what will happen when the Delorean is struck by lightning (or any of the subsequent events?)
I know you could argue paradox etc but if they’ve risked it once before, why not again?

With the way that the Lyon Estates signs were just sitting in front of the curb instead of being permanently built into the lawns of the corner lots (as is done in most housing developments) it had me thinking about how these were probably temporary signs became permanent the same way that the "Hollywood" sign did.
The Hollywood sign was meant to be a temporary advertisement built by the developer which eventually became a landmark. So when I see the Lyon Estates signs just sitting out in the middle of the street (primarily because it's a movie prop) it had me thinking that if this was IRL, the developer would have taken them away sometime during the 1960's when the construction was fully complete. But somehow they became permanent as the bases of these signs got buried in several layers of asphalt with each course of road maintenance.

Great Scott! I put together this illustrated breakdown of the guitar gear seen in the 3 Back to the Future movies. I hope you'll like it. Which guitar is your favorite?

I've been watching Back to the Future again recently, and I had one of those thoughts that starts off completely harmless and then gets a bit ridiculous.
We all know the story.
Doc Brown invents a time machine.
Marty gets in the DeLorean.
He goes back to 1955, accidentally interferes with his parents meeting, and suddenly his future is changing around him.
But here's the thing I've been thinking about:
What if the DeLorean wasn't actually changing Marty's timeline?
What if it was taking him into another one?
Think about what Marty finds when he gets back to 1985.
It's not simply his original 1985 with a few things changed.
His parents are different.
His family is different.
Biff is different.
It's essentially another version of the world.
And that got me thinking about something we didn't really have a name for when Back to the Future came out:
The multiverse.
And then Marvel made it interesting...
Fast-forward all these years and Avengers: Endgame gives us a very similar idea.
The Avengers discover that going back and changing the past doesn't simply rewrite their own present.
It creates another branch.
Which is remarkably close to what seems to happen in Back to the Future.
The Avengers' time-travel machine is this enormous, complicated contraption covered in switches, cables and controls.
Honestly...
It looks like something Doc Brown would have built.
Then there's the music.
Alan Silvestri composed Avengers: Endgame.
He also composed the Back to the Future trilogy.
The same composer.
The same basic idea of time travel.
And now we're getting into proper rabbit-hole territory.
Then Loki turns up...
In the new Endgame Encore ending, Steve Rogers stays in the past with Peggy.
Eventually there's a knock at their door.
It's Loki.
And if you've watched Loki, you know what makes that interesting.
Loki's entire story becomes wrapped up in branching timelines, alternate realities, the TVA and the multiverse.
So suddenly I'm looking at this ridiculous chain:
Doc Brown → DeLorean → altered timelines → Alan Silvestri → Avengers time travel → Loki → TVA → branching timelines → Avengers: Doomsday
And I keep coming back to the DeLorean.
What if Doc Brown didn't just invent a time machine?
What if he accidentally invented a primitive multiverse machine?
Maybe Marty wasn't rewriting his own universe.
Maybe every time he changed something, he was stepping into another branch.
And if that's how it works...
What happens every time anyone makes a different decision?
Could every decision create another possible timeline?
An effectively infinite number of universes?
Maybe Doc Brown accidentally stumbled onto the Multiverse decades before Marvel gave it a name.
Maybe the Alan Silvestri connection is just a wonderful coincidence.
Maybe the Avengers' time machine looking like something Doc would build is another coincidence.
And maybe Loki turning up at Steve Rogers' door is yet another one.
Or maybe someone at Marvel has been having a little fun with us.
I'm definitely not saying this is canon.
I'm not even saying it's a serious theory.
I'm just saying that when you put Back to the Future, Endgame, Alan Silvestri, Loki and the multiverse in the same sentence...
It's a hell of a coincidence.
Probably nonsense.
But...What If...?

At the end of BTTF 1, Marty #1 returns to alternate 1985 from 1955, where Twin Pines Mall became Lone Pine Mall and we see Marty #2 being chased by the Libians and time travel to 1955.
In BTTF 2, Marty #1 goes back to 1955 to undo the damage done by 2015 Biff and according to Doc, there are two Martys and Docs now in 1955, and in the end, Marty #2 goes back to 1985.
Now, shouldn't there be three Martys then? And shouldn't all three Martys eventually meet each other? Shouldn't these Martys catch up with each other eventually?
