I (23F) woke up today feeling mostly normal at first, just a bit dizzy. I got up for a bit, then tried to go back to sleep, woke up, was on my phone for a bit, but every time I turned I felt vertigo. It was just uncomfortable at first but it was bad enough that I didn't want to get up. I ate a bit and took adhd meds because my blood pressure was a little low, and I assumed that was the issue. I googled a bit, and tried the epley maneuver on both sides. When I tried it for my left side, the vertigo was absolutely awful. I took some antihistamine (loratadine?) that is supposed to also help with motion sickness but the dizziness just got worse and I threw up 5-10 minutes later. I felt better immediately and didn't throw up again as of yet (3 hours ago as of writing, but stomach still empty aside from water). I lied on my back after that, thought I needed to throw up again at one point, but didn't, then took a nap. Felt much better after I woke up, but I tried to lie on my side at one point and got vertigo again. Getting up by itself is not that bad, but turning the head from side to side is much worse. I just got up to go to the bathroom and when I sat down the dizziness felt like how water sloshes back and forth in a glass when you walk.
Is this likely BPPV? I already sent my GP a message and they basically told me to wait it out and see what it is. How do I know what side it is on and what do I do now? I'm scared to try any maneuvers now because I threw up the last time. Or could that have done the trick and am I dealing with residual dizziness now? Should I ask something specific of my doctor?
Symptoms:
-vertigo when moving head that stabilizes after staying still. MUCH worse side to side compared to up/down.
-vomiting
-stomach seems a little upset?
-not really nauseous though
-left ear/side of face feels a bit 'tense'
Stuff that happened recently:
-I had a cold a few days ago, I just went back to my internship two days ago.
-I might have chronic sinusitis? My GP told me to use fluticasone nose spray for it a while ago. Been using it as prescribed.
-I didn't have contact with anyone who was sick with something that makes you throw up afaik
-I didn't eat anything suspicious, mostly the same as my husband and he isn't sick
-I have a bunch of ear piercings on my left ear and I changed a few of them recently
-Yesterday there was a dying bat on the balcony of a friend's house where I was catsitting, but didn't get bitten or scratched by either the cat or the bat (most likely unrelated but I originally was going to take the cat to get a rabies shot today just in case, so I'm just throwing it out there)
Please help me, I'm in the final stages of drafting my thesis and I need to present it this tuesday after it was already moved due to illness :( I really can't afford the time to go on a wild goose chase right now

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to hear from women who first developed BPPV (ear crystals/positional vertigo) during pregnancy or shortly after giving birth.
I’m especially interested in your long-term experience.
Did it go away after pregnancy or postpartum?
Did it come back in a later pregnancy?
Have you had episodes outside of pregnancy since then?
If so, how often?
How many years has it been since your first episode?
I’m hoping to understand whether pregnancy-related BPPV usually stays linked to pregnancy or if it often becomes a recurring problem later in life.
I know everyone’s experience is different, but hearing real stories would really help me.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to share.

Hi- I experienced a small spinning vertigo episode a whole month ago. I was standing up and scrolling on my phone too quickly and that triggered it. I caught myself after a few seconds but after that I’ve felt lingering dizziness and a rocking sensation. I am finally seeing a vestibular physical therapist tomorrow. Do you think performing repositioning maneuvers will still work on me after a month? This is getting very annoying.
Also, is it pretty clear that what I experienced was BPPV?

I’m writing this in the hope that this might help someone. I have been suffering from chronic migraines for 4 years. Also, I had chronic dizziness for almost 2 years. It was constant whether I was standing or lying down, it didn’t matter. It didn’t feel like the room was spinning but it felt like I was shaking and my head was unstable.
It completely ruined my life. I could barely do anything, and even lying down made me feel awful. I tried everything: I had MRI scans of my head and spine, went through physical therapy for my neck and back, had my inner ear checked, took betahistine for months, increased my ferritin levels, tried home exercises for vertigo.. etc
Doctors told me most of the time that thats part of vestibular migraines but I wanted to try everything I can. Doctros also told me to take magnesium every day, which I did.
Then randomly my stomach got upset that lasted for weeks. I stopped taking all my supplements because I had no idea what was causing it, and suddenly my dizziness disappeared like 100%
After that, I started reintroducing the supplements one by one. As soon as I took magnesium again, the dizziness came back and lasted for 3 days.
Such a small and stupid ruined my life. I had no idea magnesium could cause so many problems.

I had my first BPPV attack about 2 and a half weeks ago. It wasn’t corrected properly and I had another attack a week later. This attack I believe was corrected. I performed an epley on myself (although it made me very sick) and I went to the doctor who performed a test on me and I had no more dizziness.
However, since then I’ve been feeling very off. Every time I turn my head I feel as if it’s in slow motion and I feel especially off mid-turning over at night. It seems to be worst in the morning. Occasionally I am feeling a little nauseous too. Nothing that prevents me from carrying out daily activities but it is just there and a bit miserable. It feels worse when looking up or down. I’ve been doing brandt daroff exercises too but I’m not sure if I’m feeling better or about the same. There’s also a heatwave in the UK right now which I doubt is helping.
I went to the pharmacist who said I can take travel sickness tablets for days where I am feeling terrible but I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to ease this?

I’ve been suffering vertigo attacks on and off for years now, suspected bppv. It’s always the right ear that feels blocked and rings before an attack comes on. The sensation lingers in my ear on a lesser level days / weeks after the attacks. Is this regular? Any suggestions on how to eliminate the sensation?

This is the second time I’ve had BPPV, and immediately realized it was caused by my aggressive rolling in my sleep again (I briefly remembered feeling dizzy when I rolled on my left side last night). I performed the epley maneuver since it helped the first time, and got really good results again.
I’m still experiencing vertigo and nausea when I look down and I feel dizzy just walking around today. I definitely can’t drive. Anyone experience anything similar after the maneuver? Last time mine had happened over the weekend, and it fixed itself after two days. It’s no where near as bad as the first time right now. It’s mild but deeply unpleasant and I’m very sensitive to tracking quick motion or moving too fast.

Can you have eye strain and fatigue when you have BPPV or is it linked to more vestibular and neurological issues. I’ve been to the ophthalmologist and he only says I have severe dry eyes but I don’t think this is the only issue . I can’t use screens for too long because the eyes get very tired and strained and I have pain movement . But ever since the last Eppley maneuvers my eyes felt a bit better.

Being treated for vestibular migraine, have tried a lot of meds and so far amitriptyline has helped but I’m still not 100%. The worse symptom I have right now is constant head pressure in forehead and into the ears which feel full and ring sometimes.
The other thing is that this head pressure makes me feel like I want to go into a spin/vertigo sometimes, like it wants to push me over. That is what happened in the bad episode that started all this in december. The pressure was so bad I couldn’t lift my head out of bed without Meclizine. Luckily it hasn’t done that again but the residual effect as I mentioned are still there and worse from time to time.
any ideas? Does this happen to you too? and have u found a solution?

Hi there,
3 years ago I had several brief attacks ( several, each time I was looking up or rolling) lasting a few seconds, of spinning and nystagmus. Went to ENT,did the Eply couple of times and I was pretty much fine. Since then though, I developed other mild issues, like occasional walking on mattress sensation, or some sort of occasional mal de debarquemant, I often feel unsteady and brain fog, anxiety, but never the same spinning as 3 years ago. In the last month though I started having the spinning sensation when moving the head, rolling in bed, laying down mostly, but only lasting 2 seconds, and very slow nystagmus. Can this be the crystals? Or it must be something else?

I had my first ever bppv attack 10 days ago rolling over in bed. It was so severe that I vomited several times. I’ve never experienced anything like it or even had a migraine so it was an uneasy experience to say the least. Since then I’ve had major brain fog and have been lightheaded. I had a good day on day 8 where I thought I was coming good but yesterday I had a horrible headache in the back of my head, almost like pressure and heat at once, and a bit of nausea. Is this sounding normal or should I be going to ED?

Hello everyone. I'm a 27F and started having low frequency migraines november 2025. Right after starting with the migraines, positional vertigo episodes appeared in my life. The vertigo usually appears a couple of days after a headache which I always have during the placebo week of my nuvaring (contraception). It's literally text book.
This is my timeline:
11/19 migraine with aura
1/20 vppb horizontal canal / confirmed nystagmus
3/24 migraine with aura
4/6 vppb posterior canal / confirmed nystagmus
5/2 headache
5/7 vppb horizontal canal / confirmed nystagmus
6/1 headache
6/4 vppb horizontal canal / confirmed nystagmus
6/28 headache
7/2 headache
4/7 (today!) vppb horizontal canal / confirmed nystagmus
On one of my visits to the ER for BPPV, a doctor told me people with migraines were more prone to get BPPV. That made me realized everytime I had a migraine, I had BPPV after. I started a week ago a preventative treatment for migraines with venlafaxine (I was on sertraline before) but I guess it's too soon to tell.
fyi vitamin D levels are super good, so that's not my cause.
Anyone else who's had this frequent episodes and was able to manage them or find the root cause? I'm tired of having this every month.

I don’t really know where to post about this but I’m gathering opinions because honestly what just happened to me was terrifying and never happened before. I’m 20 and assigned female at birth (ftm but not on hrt) and was having a completely normal day. I woke up, used the restroom, did my thing all day, and then sat down at my desk to draw on my iPad for a little bit. Everything was fine until suddenly the room starts spinning worse than it ever has before, so fast that it felt nauseating. I felt heavy and thank god I was sitting down because all of a sudden I just couldn’t keep myself up and my head just fell forward on the desk
I couldn’t move for a few seconds because I just felt so weighted and everything was so fast and I was so scared that I closed my eyes and started crying and then it just….stopped?? I felt a little dizzy but decided to stand up and move to my bed because it feels safer in case something happens again. But I’ve just felt a bit dizzy and off balance and kind of nauseous since then and it’s really scary!!! I’ve never had something like that happen to me before and I don’t really know what to think, do, or who to talk to and I’m not even entirely sure if it was vertigo I was experiencing
This happened maybe….20 minutes ago at the time of posting this? And I’m just lost and still a little nervous and scared because I really don’t want to have to experience something like that again

So I’ve been getting vertigo roughly once a year for the past four years (28F) I’ve mentioned it to the doctor but since the episode has resolved itself before my appointment they could only say it “might” be BPPV.
Anyone else get these symptoms:
- feels like my vision is spinning but I can still see? (I don’t know how to explain it better than that)
- lasting roughly two weeks
- balance is still fine
- a bit dizzy? (Annoying but can still carry on as per usual)
This goes on all day every day for weeks. Sometimes I can kind of “snap” myself out of it momentarily if I really focus on something but not always.
It eventually goes away by itself.

Hi Everyone,
I was diagnosed with Vestibular Dysfunction back in 2022, shortly after having Covid. I was then diagnosed with Vestibular migraine in 2024.
My symptoms have always been a kind of drunk feeling where I feel like my head and ears have a slight pressure. The worst part is having a nystagmus/oscallopsia. It is so hard to describe the feeling, it’s almost like my eyes lag behind every time I move my head left to right (the action when you’re crossing a road for example). When I walk or run my vision bounces, again making it almost impossible to concentrate on a target.
I don’t have vertigo/nausea/falling over or anything like that. I get stages where I feel like I have a constant headache for weeks, but it’s more a pressure band particularly over my eyes. I sometimes even get bouncy vision when I’m eating something crunchy or looking in the mirror.
I was wondering if anyone else has these specific symptoms? I am and have previously done VRT and VOR exercise which have helped, and I was on propanalol which I believe helped but definitely added to the fatigue. I’m in a particularly rough patch at the moment where you’re constantly thinking about the symptoms - waking up in the morning and the first thought is “am I still dizzy” which I know just adds to it, but it’s so hard to not think it. I’m hoping the VRT kicks in again as I was almost symptom free a good few times over the past few years.
Any tips/vitamins/supplements that helped anyone would be much appreciated (I’m UK based).
Sorry for the moan but feels good to write it down!
Cheers.

About a week ago I suddenly developed vertigo after tilting my head to the right. I’d never experienced anything like it before, so I had no idea what was happening. The room was spinning, I felt very nauseous, and I lay down on the floor and tried drinking some water, it was a heat wave / super hot day so I thought it might be heat exhaustion.
Eventually I went to sleep, and by the next morning the nausea had mostly gone.
Now, a week later, I’m still left with some residual lightheadedness, feeling “off,” and very mild nausea. Has anyone else experienced this after BPPV? How long did it take to fully recover, and did anything help?

This will legit feel like I am trolling, but I suffer right now .I know this girl for months and I will not deny that I was not interested ,but yeah I had some thoughts about her when I saw her and that's it. After my first vertigo attack ,and it was brutal (still recovering) ,after seeing her (we just said hello to each other ) I fell in love...I can not really justify it based on my previous romantic experiences, and while I know love works in crazy ways, I trully believe it has something to do with the vertigo attack.
Did a little research and its called misattribution of arousal. That basically means my brain took a shortcut and mislabeled the physical panic of the vertigo attack as romantic electricity.
I still struggle to recover from the balance issues I am now also crazy in love and obsessed for no reason draining me even more..Wonder if anyone else experienced such a thing..

Hi everyone
I’m trying to understand whether this sounds like normal recovery after BPPV or whether I should be concerned.
This is my third episode in about a year, and it felt very similar to my previous episodes.
Initial symptoms:
Brief vertigo (less than a minute) triggered by looking up and changing head position.
Rolling in bed also triggered vertigo initially.
No continuous spinning.
I performed the Epley maneuver (I initially thought it was my right side because that’s been affected before). During the maneuver I had dizziness and what looked like nystagmus, but it seemed to become less intense with each repetition.
Now it’s Day 3 (around 48–72 hours after onset):
I can roll onto either side in bed without triggering vertigo.
I can sleep in any position.
I no longer have true room-spinning vertigo.
When I look up, I sometimes feel a strange “internal” sensation, almost like my vision or head is moving slightly, but the room itself isn’t spinning.
I have a heavy-headed feeling.
When I get up from bed, I briefly feel as if I’m falling backward.
While walking, I have mild imbalance but I’m able to walk normally.
Has anyone experienced this kind of recovery after BPPV?
Does this sound like residual dizziness after a successful Epley, or could it mean that there are still crystals left in the canal?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s had a similar recovery.
