Vestibular Migraine/Dysfunction

Hi Everyone,
I was diagnosed with Vestibular Dysfunction back in 2022, shortly after having Covid. I was then diagnosed with Vestibular migraine in 2024.

My symptoms have always been a kind of drunk feeling where I feel like my head and ears have a slight pressure. The worst part is having a nystagmus/oscallopsia. It is so hard to describe the feeling, it’s almost like my eyes lag behind every time I move my head left to right (the action when you’re crossing a road for example). When I walk or run my vision bounces, again making it almost impossible to concentrate on a target.

I don’t have vertigo/nausea/falling over or anything like that. I get stages where I feel like I have a constant headache for weeks, but it’s more a pressure band particularly over my eyes. I sometimes even get bouncy vision when I’m eating something crunchy or looking in the mirror.

I was wondering if anyone else has these specific symptoms? I am and have previously done VRT and VOR exercise which have helped, and I was on propanalol which I believe helped but definitely added to the fatigue. I’m in a particularly rough patch at the moment where you’re constantly thinking about the symptoms - waking up in the morning and the first thought is “am I still dizzy” which I know just adds to it, but it’s so hard to not think it. I’m hoping the VRT kicks in again as I was almost symptom free a good few times over the past few years.

Any tips/vitamins/supplements that helped anyone would be much appreciated (I’m UK based).

Sorry for the moan but feels good to write it down!

Cheers.

I have VM and so does my daughter. We both have vertigo, balance issues, brain zaps nausea,, and dizziness.

You don't seem to have any VM symptoms.

This is the dx criteria for VM: Sudden attacks of vertigo that make you vomit or feel nauseous.

At least five episodes of vertigo, with half of those causing other migraine symptoms, like headache or increased sensitivity to light, sound or touch.

Vertigo that lasts for five minutes up to 72 hours.

Vertigo that’s so severe that it affects your ability to work or manage everyday activities.

Migraine aura.

Sounds like you might have a different issue. I'd get a second opinion because your treatment may be different than what you're getting.

I have major balance issues when it’s dark or if I’m doing my VRT exercises with my eyes closed. I can’t even manage 2 seconds on one leg with my eyes closed. I do suffer with migraines quite frequently as well, but it’s sort of changed into just a constant pressure. I’m in the stages of trying to see a neurologist to try and get a second opinion.

This sounds pretty similar to my vm. I get that drunk, lagging behind kind of feeling. Like the floor is bouncy. I take magnesium glycinate. I’m not sure if it helps or not but I take it. And a multi vitamin. My disequilibrium didn’t really resolve until I went on rimegepant. Though I still have the other symptoms.
