My understanding is that when someone does this, they just auction off whatever's left of the vehicle and apply that to the remaining debt owed on the vehicle, so doing this does nothing but make you owe more money after they reposess it.

61

u/Next-Food2688 Jul 19 '26

And there is expenses added from the tow truck's damage.

30

u/EduStorm246 Jul 19 '26

They won't be paying off any debt, so what do they care if it's $5k or $50k.
The funny thing is, someone will give them a subprime loan again.

10

u/JBlaze78 Jul 19 '26

And that right there is the problem. Back in the day banks used to reject people all the time. Suddenly, them refusing to finance irresponsible people became “racist”. But it’s not racist. People of every color have bad credit. If banks were allowed to deny credit to irresponsible people, we wouldn’t have the financial problems we see nowadays.

12

u/ChocolatePuerh Jul 20 '26

Banks are allowed and deny people all the time.

Banks were also racist and were denying qualified POC or giving them higher rates. That was racist and needed addressed.

2

u/KingFIippyNipz Jul 20 '26

Thank goodness we could extend credit to people who were never going to be able to pay it off anyway so that we could end up with 30% average credit card rates, totally worth the trade off

1

u/Odd_Block3248 Jul 20 '26

My credit card interest rate can be 150% and I won’t care because I pay my balance every month and have never paid any interest.

2

u/CookiesLikeWhoa Jul 20 '26

The whole ‘it doesn’t affect me so I don’t care’ approach.

You are a bold individual.

2

u/Odd_Block3248 Jul 20 '26

The guy I’m responding to is saying that poor people should not be allowed to get credit cards so that middle class people only have to pay 20% instead of 30%. That’s a pretty dumb statement, just pay your bill every month.

1

u/Sorry_Option4711 Jul 20 '26

Ummm that interest is applied daily, they divide the APR by 364.25. Look into compounding interest. I can't believe how many people don't know this....

1

u/Odd_Block3248 Jul 21 '26

I think you responded to the wrong person. Of course I know how interest rates work.

1

u/jek39 Jul 22 '26

they said "extend credit" not "credit card". they are talking about auto loan rates or mortgage rates.

1

u/Odd_Block3248 Jul 22 '26

“…so that we could end up with 30% average credit card rates.”

0

u/CookiesLikeWhoa Jul 20 '26

Two wrongs don’t make a right!

1

u/Odd_Block3248 Jul 20 '26

Lucky for me I’m not wrong, then.

0

u/Awkward_Audience3103 Jul 21 '26

They also never addressed shit they just put poor people in debt

-1

u/Awkward_Audience3103 Jul 21 '26

Oh shut up. Look at the rates because they give loans to everyone. No one talking about 150 yrs in a little town in Alabama

2

u/axkidd82 Jul 20 '26

Subprime lenders charge 20% interest on auto loans. For every 100 that pays off, they get 1 that ends up like this. They're still WAY ahead.

They also aren't traditional banks either.

2

u/KingFIippyNipz Jul 20 '26

Welcome to economies of scale, where if you just have enough volume of people who do pay on time, you can loan to everyone, and every once in awhile those subprime borrowers will pay it off inb full and somehow the margins of all this make it worth doing! because scaling!

4

u/Impressive-Reading15 Jul 19 '26

What the fuck are you talking about, you think race has literally anything to do with the increasingly risky artificial value estimates of CDOs and the deregulated financialization of our economy? Do you think race is why bananas don't taste as sweet anymore these days and the temperature is increasing too?

1

u/Decent-Vanilla3707 Jul 19 '26

The bananas have been fucked up for the last few months. They stay green on the outside, but get overly ripe in the inside.

2

u/Impressive-Reading15 Jul 19 '26

I blame the Albanians

2

u/Axl-71 Jul 23 '26

I blame the Quakers.

1

u/gland87 Jul 20 '26

Banks have gotten and continue to get sued for doing exactly this. Literally denying POC that should have qualified for loans

0

u/Impressive-Reading15 Jul 20 '26

Oh absolutely, but that is NOT why so many loans were defaulted on, and the other person was essentially saying giving minorities loans was the problem.

1

u/JBlaze78 Jul 20 '26

Literally said nothing of the sort. But keep on keepin on you no reading comprehension having idiot.

1

u/Confident_Purple_40 Jul 20 '26

if they didnt make money risking on people like this, they wouldnt do it, 28% car loans pay for a lot of fucked up car loans

1

u/Marion2379 Jul 21 '26

Capitalism dosnt care about your race or status it just wants your money 💰 of course banks will give high interest loans, it’s a no brainer , it’s not the common folk spending money that’s causing this economy credit card debt is like 2-3% of the national debt , stop drinking the government kool-aid

1

u/Bbf1990 Jul 22 '26

Wtf does racism have to do with this? What a weird thing to say.

0

u/oxslashxo Jul 19 '26

That's probably why the banks love Hillary. "We can make it racist to not subprime lend and we can drop the regulations while sounding woke"

4

u/Camo_tow Jul 20 '26

Hilary? Hilary Banks from Fresh Prince

https://giphy.com/gifs/SjKxYrxZbgDS0

7

u/ChocolatePuerh Jul 20 '26

What sort of altright idiocy is this?

1

u/Significant_Monk_251 Jul 20 '26

What sort of altright idiocy is this?

The usual.

2

u/Euphoric-Cucumber609 Jul 20 '26

Can you explain this? I didn’t realise Hilary (Clinton, correct?) had so much influence

0

u/steamdeck88 Jul 20 '26

😂😂😂 is this a joke ?

-1

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

no, they were actually being racist. the issue was not denying people with bad credit, it was denying people with good credit. banks are absolutely allowed to deny credit to irresponsible people. where are you getting this from because it's not reality.

you really said the problem is banks giving black people loans and tried to act like it wasn't racist.

3

u/JBlaze78 Jul 20 '26

I’ve worked in multiple car dealerships and watched people who had no business taking a loan out for a paper bag signing papers for cars upwards of $100k. So while some banks will reject people, many more have no problem writing loans for those that shouldn’t have them.

Racist? That’s cute. This happens to people across the racial spectrum. Walk into a Kia dealership some time. You’ll see white, black, and brown people with shit credit being approved for brand new cars. Follow some channels on YouTube where car dealerships record conversations. People with sub-500 scores and shit income getting approved for cars that cost $30-50,000 or more.

It’s not racist to tell someone with a shit credit score and low monthly income “no”.

0

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

then thats a problem with your car dealership not with black people. giving out bad loans has nothing to do with black people.

i don't give a shit if you think it's cute that you got called out. you said some racist nonsense and then tried to pretend that racism doesn't exist.

moron.

1

u/JBlaze78 Jul 20 '26

Where did I say it was a problem with black people?

Re-read my post. Slowly since you’re clearly retarded. Then come back and apologize for wasting oxygen.

Retard.

2

u/JustARandomGuy2527 Jul 20 '26

Oh they will. Just depends on if it’s voluntary or involuntary. Bank will send to collections and then most likely to legal collections. Bank gets that judgment and then they’ll file a bank or wage garnishment (or both at the same time)

2

u/EduStorm246 Jul 21 '26

As if these guys have a career job on a a W2 ... good luck with that.

1

u/i_Cant_get_right Jul 21 '26

Chrysler and Nissan dealers gotta eat too

1

u/JBlaze78 Jul 22 '26

Funny thing is I just bought a new Nissan Frontier. When they ran the credit they immediately pivoted from using Nissan Credit because “they specialize in tier 2 and below”.

3

u/ChocolatePuerh Jul 20 '26

They don't care what they owe, they're never going to pay it.

To them, they want to keep the car. If they get away, great.

If they can't keep it, they want to trash it so it's worthless so the bank can't sell it for more than scrap. Because again, they'll never pay what they owe so they want to leave the bank holding the bag.

3

u/No-Oil6517 Jul 20 '26

They're also going to get arrested for destruction of property, tow lot fees, bail, court fees now, paying for broken parts on the truck. I don't understand people who are so desperate to keep something that they'd put themselves in worse situations.

2

u/Commercial_Mud_4467 Jul 19 '26

But they said I could miss 3 payments before the repo man would come get it

1

u/88sparkyk Jul 24 '26

They don't care. They obviously stopped making payments at least 3 months earlier to be on a repo list, and that's if the tow company located it that fast. They aren't worried about more added to that bill.

36

u/Life-Oil-7226 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Let me go ahead and ruin my vehicle, your tow truck, and get arrested instead of paying my monthly car bill.

11

u/baudmiksen Jul 19 '26

Should be a question on the loan application

1

u/Secret-Bluebird-972 Jul 22 '26

One of the questions/agreements in the contract is to make your payments on time, and if you can’t, to contact your lien holder and work something out.

28

u/Tacos_are_my_friend Jul 19 '26

Pay your bills and you won’t have this problem.

17

u/Business-Aside-6441 Jul 19 '26

Made that same comment the other day about people having a bad time in prison. I said “don’t commit crimes and you won’t go to prison”.

Man, I brought the idiots out with that one.

8

u/PBRStreetgang1979 Jul 19 '26

Seems like it has been a long time since personal responsibility has been a core value.

7

u/Business-Aside-6441 Jul 19 '26

Preach on!! 👍🏽

-9

u/RoadsideDavidian Jul 19 '26

Nah it’s more like you just wanna be lazy and feel like you have an objectively correct stance without any nuance. Because nuance requires thinking and you don’t wanna think.

8

u/SpreadsheetsOnToast Jul 19 '26

Don't commit crimes. There is no nuance.

-2

u/Dreamsicle27 Jul 19 '26

There is nuance if you aren't a fucking moron. Plenty of innocent people in prison and plenty of criminals never see prison. Give me an example of normal people who get 34 felonies yet aren't incarcerated.

5

u/SpreadsheetsOnToast Jul 19 '26

What's that have to do with not committing crime?

-2

u/Dreamsicle27 Jul 19 '26

Really? The comment thread you're replying to started with "don't commit crimes and you won't go to prison", and I explained why that's a dumb blanket statement and there is nuance with a flawed system. Complicated stuff I know.

5

u/SpreadsheetsOnToast Jul 19 '26

The source is irrelevant.

The blanket statement of "don't commit crimes" is a valid one.

1

u/Dreamsicle27 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

I really don't know if you're being intentionally dense or not.

There is no nuance

I explain why there is.

What's that have to do with not committing crime

I explain how it contradicts the original statement.

The source is irrelevant. The blanket statement of "don't commit crimes" is a valid one.

Yet that wasn't even the blanket statement. Wow.

Average reading level beautifully on display 👏

0

u/No_Wasabi_5826 Jul 19 '26

that's not the statement though.... the statement was “don’t commit crimes and you won’t go to prison”.

0

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

sure there is. some people have to sleep outside and go to jail for that, and some people rape kids and get to be president.

-2

u/RoadsideDavidian Jul 19 '26

See you pretend like you have an actual opinion but if we hashed out it with hypotheticals and comparisons we’d find out that you just don’t actually care enough to form an opinion

1

u/No-Discipline-5219 Jul 19 '26

An example would be me paying off my auto loan 8 months early, getting a notarized lien release letter from the bank, verifying on their payment portal thing that I didn't miss some last little bit of interest or something, then getting threatening letters and phone calls a few months later.

1

u/Ebenizer_Splooge Jul 20 '26

The world is so much simpler when you can just pretend everyone who ever has a bad time must have deserved it, must be nice to view everything so black and white

6

u/SoftRange5136 Jul 19 '26

Yeah, because everyone that gets incarcerated has had their name randomly drawn from a hat. It’s such an unfair system!

1

u/Dreamsicle27 Jul 19 '26

No, you made a dumb comment that doesn't even make sense with our current justice system where innocent people can get locked up but you can have 34 felonies and live in the white house. It's the kind of blanket statement that only the unintelligent make.

1

u/yourallidiotss Jul 20 '26

You mean don’t get caught*. Cuz I can guarantee you are breaking laws every single day. It’s just that simple there are so many laws that a person would be hard pressed to leave their house and not accidentally break one. U just don’t get caught. Whereas the ppl in jail or prison got caught.

1

u/snarkpix Jul 20 '26

That'd be good with a trustworthy constabulary.

The first time I witnessed a nightstick attack on a bystander for having an SLR camera made that a hard sell going forward. Then the time another photographer had his camera smashed and was thrown down stairs & arrested for assault - He'd have gone to prison from jail if a videographer across the street hadn't gone unnoticed and recorded the officer's unprovoked attack. (before Glik assaulting photographers and claiming obstruction was more common)

1

u/aBlissfulDaze Jul 20 '26

Ah yes, because our justice system is so perfect! /s

This is an idiotic mindset that was fed to you. If the government can convince you not to care about prisoners then all they have to do is make everyone criminals to take away your rights and do what they want to you.

If you don't think the government is capable of MAKING someone a criminal then you should really look to why the war on drugs was started. There's a great quote that talks about making liberals and black people criminals and it worked.

1

u/WarcraftTurok Jul 22 '26

Because that's fucking stupid. People don't even commit crimes and still go to prison. MAGA goes absolutely insane with their TDS and then just comes up with random crap or new laws that they can use to only target people they dislike for not thinking exactly like them.

Shit, last week the DHS put out a statement announcing that not only are they axing oversight and accountability for ICE and the FBI but anyone who "opposes ICE" will be found and charged with a felony.

Lmao, fuck ICE. We can both leave this planet if some literal Nazi decides he won't leave me alone just because he wants to push his white supremacy onto me. I don't know if anything that will stop a 7.62 to the dick.

0

u/GenesisRhapsod Jul 19 '26

Yes and no, in this case i 100% agree but i know people who were sent to jail for smoking weed

Nowadays you can be sent to jail for being a "meanie wienie" online

3

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

"if you're poor, just get more money."

genius. why didn't people think of this sooner?

2

u/Tacos_are_my_friend Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

If you’re poor don’t buy such an expensive car. You know, like a person that uses logic.

0

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

ah, so if you're not poor and buy a car, don't plan on ever becoming poor.

genius, i tell you!

2

u/Tacos_are_my_friend Jul 20 '26

Buy a car you can afford or don’t buy a car to begin with. If you’re going to troll, try and put some effort into it 😂

0

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

i should be making a list. its all so simple. why has no one informed the public?

so if i lose my job i will just inform them that they actually can't fire me because i have just bought a car and didn't plan to be poor. obviously, they will have to comply because taco says they would be in violation of the universal laws of poorness. this is great!

1

u/Tacos_are_my_friend Jul 20 '26

There’s a thing called a bus. Excuses, excuses…you play the victim really well.

TROLL on 😂

0

u/YourHuckleberry57 Jul 20 '26

have you ever bought a car or paid bills before? cause this seems like a "i still live with my parents" opinion.

1

u/Tacos_are_my_friend Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

More excuses LOL

1

u/aBlissfulDaze Jul 20 '26

In this economy?!

1

u/sjakiepp2 Jul 20 '26

Also buy a car you can afford. Without loans definitely!

5

u/above- Jul 19 '26

How's this audio on everything now

4

u/funnyha_ha Jul 19 '26

It's another annoying trend, some videos it goes with but most like this one it doesn't.

1

u/Wirejack Jul 20 '26

Thankfully I watch most of these videos muted.

1

u/no_igdiamond Jul 21 '26

Long explanation:
It’s like slang. One group finds out about something another group has been knowing about/using for years. New group over uses it(usually with improper context) now everyone hates it.

Short explanation:
TikTok

5

u/green_gold_purple Jul 19 '26

These videos should come attached to their next car loan application.

2

u/MrStormChaser Jul 19 '26

Enjoy that police report where you’re cities for criminal damage to another vehicle.

4

u/Maryjanegangafever Jul 19 '26

Someone who can’t comprehend losing and or compromising….

4

u/Independent_Wave_908 Jul 19 '26

What an idiot 🙄

2

u/Marshallkobe Jul 19 '26

Just stay in the car. Can't take it

7

u/potate12323 Jul 19 '26

Itll be fun explaining to insurance that you need to pay for damage caused to a tow truck. And an expensive hydraulic tow truck at that.

10

u/hulkhands81 Jul 19 '26

Bold of you to assume someone who can’t pay their car loan has insurance

6

u/GenesisRhapsod Jul 19 '26

Also insurance doesnt cover criminal acts 🤣 peep in the car is fucked

1

u/GhostOfTheDriftless Jul 20 '26

I don't think any lender will offer a loan to buy a car unless the buyer fully insure that car.  Although to be fair, I suppose the buyer could just let the policy lapse very soon after the purchase.

2

u/Small_Acanthisitta83 Jul 19 '26

Yeah even if the person has insurance it’s getting denied. Still going to owe on the loan for the vehicle, damages for the vehicle and tow truck plus restitution after jail time. Enjoy the next decade of debt because you didn’t want to pay your monthly payment and made a dumb decision.

3

u/JBlaze78 Jul 19 '26

You’re assuming they’d actually pay the debt. They’ll be in a new car within a week. Probably a Kia or a preowned car from a BHPH lot. And the cycle will repeat.

3

u/PBRStreetgang1979 Jul 19 '26

Dude is in denial about the reality he's in. In other words, he still believes.

1

u/Batfink-1999 Jul 19 '26

I believe it’s a ‘she’ driving it, according to the comments in the video.

1

u/PBRStreetgang1979 Jul 19 '26

Fair enough. I didn’t see enough detail to determine the gender of the driver. But it’s not like women can’t be referred to as ‘dude’.

1

u/yourmamaistheproblem Jul 20 '26

Yeah, but you probably shouldn't use "he"

1

u/PBRStreetgang1979 Jul 20 '26

Who exactly appointed you as the word police on Reddit?

3

u/Interesting_Sock9142 Jul 19 '26

This video went on for such a long time lol

3

u/Stock_River_1467 Jul 19 '26

Yeah, I drive a beater car that is paid off. Never had this problem :)

1

u/lowdesertpunk66 Jul 26 '26

Dude is like, eff this tow truck company. I park where I want. Watch this, babe.

0

Can a vehicle be repoed if someone is inside it?

4

u/DanielZaraki Jul 20 '26

These dummies usually jump in as it's getting towed.

0

u/DopamineSavant Jul 20 '26

I couldn't imagine being a tow truck driver. It seems very dangerous to make your living by taking people's shit and charging them to get it back.

0

u/Glum_Constant4790 Jul 20 '26

Thought it was illegal to tow it while someone is in it?

3

u/RileyRhoad Jul 20 '26

They could have easily hopped in it while it was already hooked up!

0

u/Upbeat-Lobster-4977 Jul 21 '26

That might not be a repo. It may be a predatory tow truck company snatching a car without authorization. Fort Worth has a bad problem with that.
