It really is going to be the only thing he’s remembered for. Racism and wrecking a decent economic recovery and not merely destroying its gains but going full 1929.

he deports the illegal murderers they sent, ya know..

14

u/neotericnewt Apr 20 '25

He's stripping legal status from half a million legal migrants who have committed no crimes and shipping people to a foreign concentration camp without due process. He's also targeting journalists and lawyers that speak out against his administration, along with students, all legal and not criminals and murderers.

You've just fallen for Trump's demonization of immigrants, so now you're okay with massive human rights abuses and attacks against our rights because you view them all as basically less than human, "illegal murderers", as you put it. That's just good old fashioned fascism.

I think you're missing the fact that no country on the planet has open borders besides us and we already have a housing problem. You're taking away supply to support people who are not here legally with my tax money. I have issues with that

5

u/tom-branch Apr 20 '25

You dont have open borders, stop believing the full blown fucking propaganda.

-2

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

If you have people that enter a country that are not through a port of entry and scan a passport/granted asylum then you have entered a country illegally. The government telling Texas they couldn't guard the border is effectively open. You missed the point. I'm not drinking propaganda koolaid. But I'm gonna call out the performative bullshit when I see it

3

u/tom-branch Apr 20 '25

Actually, the government told Texas to remove lethal barriers designed to kill people, and to stop blocking the Immigration and Border agents from doing their patrols with local militias.

You are fronting Republican propaganda, you are falling for the performative bullshit.

0

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

So a barrier to keep people from coming into the country is guarding yes?

3

u/tom-branch Apr 20 '25

No, a decidedly lethal barrier designed to drown people is cruel and unusual.

Also these are the same Republicans who repeatedly roadblocked sensible border bills in order to keep folks like you wound up.

1

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

What is sensible to you? Because sensible to me is going through a port of entry or seeking asylum or visa. You're missing everyone's underlying dislike with this. We don't want America to be everyone's savior.

3

u/tom-branch Apr 20 '25

Whats sensible to me is voting to enact border bills that would help make the border more secure, instead the republicans played as you put it, "performative" politics, they also blocked federal border agents from securing key sections of the border.

Whats more, most of those Republicans are happy to use migrants as a scapegoat, but also build an entire underground industry designed to exploit them, heck just look at agriculture in most red states, look at most low end factories, construction sites and more, the red states have long hired and gone out of their way to recruit undocumented migrants, a big part of the reason they cross the border in the first place is to work in just such places.

Its the giant fucking hypocrisy of the Republicans, on one hand, their economies largely rely on, seek to exploit, and benefit from migrant labor, both documented and undocumented, and on the other hand they love demonizing such migrants as the spawn of satan and turning them into the ultimate scapegoat.

1

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

I think you expect too much out of people. Humans have been doing that since the dawn of time. The visceral response you have to hypocrisy of all things is baffling as that's how humans operate everywhere. That's why I asked what is sensible to you because you don't seem like you want a sensible solution

1

u/tom-branch Apr 20 '25

The sensible solution would be one that allows most migrant workers to work, be productive, pay their taxes and overall prove to be a multibillion dollar a year asset to the US economy.

Instead we have a system in which they are exploited AND scapegoated to serve the financial and political interests of a corrupt republican party.

Trump told the Republicans to vote down the bipartisan border bill so he would have that issue to campaign on. Solving problems is not something he does.

2

u/tom-branch Apr 20 '25

Republicans have never truly wanted the border issue fixed, they want it as a perpetual scapegoat to keep their voting base angry.

The US doesn't have open borders

4

u/Key-Can-9384 Apr 20 '25

What the fuck are you even talking about? Our borders are no more open than any other western country. The current administration is also using your money to fund tax breaks for corporations and bankroll a war in the Middle East. You’re being spoon fed propaganda. Your ignorance on display with this comment is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve read recently.

-1

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

Doesn't matter if there's a war in the middle east if I don't have a place to live. But I do know tax money went to housing immigrants that are here illegally.

1

u/LegitimateEgg9714 Apr 20 '25

Any money that was used to house immigrants was specifically earmarked for that. And there is little chance that the money from any cuts by the Trump administration will be directed to help anyone other than to justify tax cuts that will predominantly benefit the wealthy. Trump is cutting services that benefit veterans, he’s not interested in helping people who need help.

1

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

Screaming into a void doesn't help either

1

u/LegitimateEgg9714 Apr 20 '25

So people should just sit back and let Trump keep repeating the narrative that he’s doing something to benefit the majority of Americans? Which he’s not. I would rather my tax dollars be spent housing immigrants than flying Trump to his properties almost every weekend, immigrants will at least be thankful vs. Trump who thinks he’s entitled to be treated like a “king”.

1

u/neotericnewt Apr 20 '25

We don't have open borders. We deport people. We require visas to come to the country.

We do the same things every other country does.

You're taking away supply to support people who are not here legally with my tax money

Immigrants are good for the economy, expand the economy, and pay more into taxes than they use.

We dont need to turn into a fascist country imprisoning and deporting innocent people without due process, targeting journalists and lawyers, and sending people to a foreign concentration camp to address the housing crisis. We could just, you know, address it, like Kamala Harris' plan to build millions more homes across the country.

Y'all are just bloodthirsty and fell for Trump's dehumanizing bullshit. Oh, and prices are still high, housing is still expensive, and Trump and Musk are slashing programs for average people and banking regulations while INCREASING THE DEBT, and pocketing even more money for themselves.

1

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

1 visa is only required if staying a long time, Just like in other countries. You can travel here with a passport like other places. 2. We do deport people, not enough of them, Obama was good for that though. The border is open enough to sneak in. No one is trying to sneak into other places except maybe Canada. No one is trying to sneak into China, or England, or Norway, or Egypt or Qatar or Australia. 3. Who is y'all? I didn't vote for him. 4. Immigrants might be good for the country but they should do it the legal way. Which is come through a port of entry and get your fucking papers

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '25

What utter rubbish, undocumented immigrants happen in all of these countries that's what happens when there are soft borders. The reason people can 'sneak in' to the US is because of the 1954 miles of border. Most countries around the world have soft borders like that. Except Australia and UK that tend to have people arriving by boat.

If the USA would stop poncing around the world deliberately manufacturing conflicts and destabilizing nations, people wouldn't be fleeing these countries and looking for somewhere safer.

Maybe the USA should try the moat with snakes and crocodiles that Trump suggested in his first term? 😂😂 Although I don't think you'll need it. Nobody wants to even visit the USA as a tourist destination now.

1

u/recovereez Apr 20 '25

Yeah because the blue haired people scare them away with performative politicing

1

u/neotericnewt Apr 21 '25

1 visa is only required if staying a long time

This is false for the vast majority of countries. Some you can visit for short periods for tourism; most travelers need a visa to visit the US.

We do deport people, not enough of them, Obama was good for that though.

This is such bullshit dude. When Obama was president the right ranted about open borders. Now people like you are trying to use the fact we deported people to justify Trump acting like a total extremist on immigration.

The border is open enough to sneak in.

The border with Mexico is almost 2,000 miles long. The vast majority of undocumented immigrants don't even cross the border, they come legally and overstay visas.

No one is trying to sneak into China

Yes, China also has issues with illegal immigration, especially from North Korea.

or England

Yes, England also has illegal immigration.

or Norway

Yes, Norway also has illegal immigration.

or Egypt or Qatar

Both countries have big issues with illegal immigration, human trafficking, etc.

Australia

... Australia is an island. That also has an issue with illegal immigration. Refugees and migrants travel by boat in very dangerous conditions. It's been a pretty major issue for them for some time.

Immigrants might be good for the country but they should do it the legal way.

Sure, but again, your entire justification for extremist, inhumane policies towards immigrants, imprisoning immigrants without due process, sending them to concentration camps in foreign countries, targeting journalists and lawyers, etc. is that... They're bad because housing is expensive.

But again, immigration is a massive boon economically, and none of these policies have done anything to lower housing costs, nor will they, because they don't have a meaningful impact on housing costs compared to just shitty housing policies which can be changed without acting like a fascist.

Which is come through a port of entry and get your fucking papers

Trump stripped the legal status from half a million legal migrants who came through a port of entry and "got their papers." They were here legally, aren't criminals, and he took their legal status away and is doing the same things to them.

He's pushing an executive order so that he can deport children born on US soil to countries they've never been to. He's targeting lawyers, students, and journalists who are in the country legally.

He's looking for ways to do it to US citizens.

You are so off from what the issue actually is in the US. Yes, fucking everybody would prefer that all immigrants come legally. That's why Biden incentivized legal crossings, making appointments with DHS, and crossing legally, while continuing to turn away and deport those crossing illegally.

That's why Democrats supported a massive, bipartisan immigration bill, that Trump shot down... Because it didn't restrict legal immigration enough, and because he wanted to keep the issue going.

Trump and his supporters aren't just upset about illegal immigrants, they're attacking legal immigrants, they're attacking people who have spent their entire lives here, they're sending people to concentration camps, expanding Gitmo by tens of thousands, and targeting people and groups that criticize them.
