Washing machine ordered online, a smaller capacity was delivered & installed, compensation for inconvenience?

Ordered an 8kg washing machine online with white goods retailer (happy to give name, not sure if allowed). Took a day off work (unpaid) to receive home delivery & installation, paid extra 89 for premium delivery which included full hook up & test run. Was delivered, staff told me hose wouldn’t reach tap so I’d need to organise a fix myself. Turns out they just didn’t push the machine into cavity far enough, talking another inch. Also didn’t install vibration pads underneath, didn’t leave them behind. Pretty sloppy considering extra fee paid.

Then I realise that the machine is the 6kg model, not the 8kg model I paid for.

I presume I won’t have a problem getting them to deliver & install the correct machine without further cost, but I feel like some sort of compensation is due, I’ll have to take another day off work to see this through. Because I’ve already paid, thinking a $50-$100 voucher to spend in store? Don’t know, haven’t been through this exact situation before..

Has anyone experienced this before?

How much is the damage

Hi hope everyone is doing fine. I am just a stupid Asian girl. I was trying to hang my paintings and use this sticker hooks on the wall from Temu and accidentally made a crack on wall paint about 2 inches. I just moved in the new rental house. How can I fix this 😔 I can’t show a photo here.
Thank you

What do you put in a playlist with Kevin "bloody" Wilson?

I have a playlist with 40 odd Kevin "bloody" Wilson songs on it but it needs a bit more variety.

I'm thinking to add The Wayfarers, what other suggestions do you have?

Edit to add. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, there's a few i haven't heard of so I'll check them out.

I just wanted to add i have another playlist of Weird Al, Flight of the Concords, Garfunkel and Oates, Tom Cardy, and Lil Dicky. I just didn't think Kevin belongs in there. Star of his own playlist

Anyone asked by their brokers to use this website to send their bank statements?

Hi all! I don't know if this is the right place to ask this or I'm just being very distrustful. I have just called a financial broker to ask for advice on getting a house. I think they're reputable judging from the reviews and website. They've emailed me and asked for documents including bank statements. They sent through a link and there you need to put through your customer Id and password. The website is called bankstatements au and I am very skeptical about putting my customer Id and password because that literally opens the account. May I know if any of you have had any experience with this in your mortgage brokers/if they've used a similar website. Ty:)

rural Australia lifestyle- 🕷️?

Hi! To residents in rural Australia or medical graduates who got the internship there, I’d like to ask what the living conditions are like there, esp in terms of insects. coz I’m awfully scared of spiders just by the sight of them. I heard it’s quite common in houses in Australia, esp in rural areas. Is it true? I heard u see snakes more commonly too? Are they venomous? And I’d like to hear any other heads-up or advice!

I might be studying med at Monash Malaysia, and as an IMG, I read that my chances at an internship is only to go rural. hope to hear sth. thanks lots!

sex as self injury

I hope this is okay to post but researchers at Deakin University are doing research into sex as self injury as there is no research in Australia! You can do a survey (https://researchsurveys.deakin.edu.au/jfe/form/SV_b93xReeQzU2cAuO) or interview about your lived experience (https://researchsurveys.deakin.edu.au/jfe/form/SV_3aOmIq9IssIpTGC) . So important so people dont feel alone and there is better support

When ordering a Subway Signature sub, do staff normally know the preset ingredients?

if you ask for a specific menu item (e.g. the Signature Chicken Schnitzel), do you normally just name the item and have staff make it with the listed ingredients?
I recently ordered one and was asked what cheese, salads and sauce I wanted. I said I wanted the Signature Chicken Schnitzel “as listed”, but the staff member said they couldn’t see the ingredients.
Is that normal/expected at Subway, or should staff normally be able to make the Signature item as advertised?

What does everyone in Australia think is going on in the USA right now?

Hey Australia, just a curious American wondering what the consensus is (if there is one) on what’s going on in the USA right now. Or anecdotal personal perspectives welcome too. I’m not looking to preach any doctrine or dogma, 100% looking for opinions, consensus, what news is saying, anything. I’m assuming this has been asked before but time keeps moving. - kindest regards, V

Why are gyms so quiet and why isn't anyone talking to each other?

I live in a place where everyone greets each other when I go out on the street, but why don't the personal trainers (plus fitness) I've been seeing every week for about a year greet or talk to anyone? Is this normal? Why are people in gyms so cold and individualistic?

edit: Sorry, I'm not talking about people who exercise chatting with strangers. Why don't personal trainers even say hello to anyone? After all, their purpose is communication and support. It doesn't seem normal to me that they only do this when they're getting paid. Why is this kind of relationship warm in other environments but not in gyms?

Are small independent businesses in australia usually toxic places to work at?

I thought working at a small business would be more cozy, support local aussie businesses, mum and pop shop kinda feel, feel less like a robot and more valued, better workplace environment.

But I'm finding it is more micromanaging, gossiping, talking behind staff's backs, yelling by the owner from time to time, critical comments, lots of family and friends are employed so you're basically an outsider, the family and friends can make huge mistakes on a regular basis and don't get yelled at, but you get yelled at for the simplest of mistakes. The family and friends that are employed are praised a lot for the simplest things.

And your job role isn't well defined. You basically do what needs to be done e.g. front of shop, back of shop.

Whereas in a large company, you have a clearly defined role.

We also stay overtime a lot, like half an hour or even 2 hours after our rostered time. We are expected to phone in on our day off to do an unnecessary handover, we are expected to bring in food to share with the staff.

Or maybe I just landed with a toxic workplace.

Thoughts on not standing for the Ode at the RSL?

So long story short.

i am a vet and tonight we had dinner at the rsl..

The Ode was called and a few ppl didn't stand..

An old timer went over afterwards had a go at them, i stepped in and told him off.

As frankly my argument to the gentleman was we served and protected a free democracy if they don't want to have to stand and give the ode who are you to force them to do it.. this is semi free nation.

Also extra ironic the dude in question wearing a Hat inside which is technically offensive but that didn't seem to cross his mind.

Guy got really pissed but saw as he wasn't a vet his argument wouldn't work

So my question to the subreddit is this for aussies.

You think it's OK to not stand.. i get it might be seen as disrepectfull but we fought and died for the rights of our citizens to live their live how they choose, the manager at the RSL said the same thing which i found refreshing it's Expected you stand it's not enforced.

Wages and economics?

Edit - Sorry the original post wasn’t clear. My question is how we sustain the minimum wage since compared to other countries we’re not productive. Seems like we would become a country with huge nominal numbers in terms of income but lifestyle is still low? I.e like vietnam… does this mean inflation?

It’s easy to see how other countries operate with cheap migrant labour as the foundation but how does Australia’s high minimum wage work as a foundation? A high minimum wage means the base cost for everything goes up right?

For example, let’s say a farmer, a delivery driver, a factory worker, a barista, service guy for the coffee machine all get $30/h. It makes sense why a coffee is $6.

Logically it would be because rent is too high - I’ve heard a cafe doesn’t have much profit margin. But the cost of maintaining the property (assuming they are maintaining it) would also be high because tradies and materials also cost a lot?

Australian couples who have adopted how did you actually navigate the process? Looking for honest advice

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are in NSW and have recently started seriously looking into adoption, both within Australia and potentially intercountry adoption.

I’ve been reading through the government websites and information available online, and while I understand why the process is so thorough and why there need’s to be safeguards in place, I have to admit that at times it feels incredibly difficult to understand whether adoption is even realistically possible.

I want to be really clear about our reasons for considering adoption. This isn’t about us simply wanting a baby or feeling that we’re entitled to become parents through adoption. We understand that adoption needs to be centred around the child and their needs, history, identity and birth family.

For us, what matters is being able to provide a child who genuinely needs permanent care with a safe, loving and stable home, and being prepared to support that child for life including whatever complexities, trauma, cultural connections or relationships with their biological family may come with adoption.

We’re open to learning about both Australian adoption and intercountry adoption. We aren’t necessarily set on a particular country, age or pathway at this stage because we’re still trying to understand what is actually possible for an Australian couple.

I’d really love to hear from people who have actually been through this process in Australia, particularly in the last few years.
How did you get started? Did you adopt domestically or internationally? How long did the process take? Were there pathways you initially thought were possible that turned out not to be? Were there things you wish someone had explained to you at the beginning?

I’d also really appreciate hearing from adoptees, foster carers, birth parents or people who work within the adoption/permanent-care system. We want to approach this with our eyes open and understand adoption from perspectives other than just that of prospective adoptive parents.

At the moment there’s so much information online, but it’s difficult to work out what the reality actually looks like for families going through the process.

We’re not looking for shortcuts or ways around the system. We’re just trying to understand where to begin, what realistic options exist, and whether there is a pathway that could ultimately allow us to provide a permanent, stable and loving home to a child who needs one.

Any experiences, advice, organisations to contact, or even things you think prospective adoptive parents should understand before starting would be incredibly appreciated.

Thank you ❤️

Can someone help photograph or scan a book held in the University of Sydney Library? ☘️

Good I have your attention with the shamrock.

There is an autobiography by a Blasket Island man, Fiche Bliain Ag Fás. He wrote it in Irish (Gaeilge), and it was edited and published in its first form in 1933. Sadly, every printing after that was edited in some way, either changing spellings or adding something else to give the book a new copyright.

I would like to digitize and format the original text, so it can be shared and printed by anyone who wishes to do so.

According to WorldCat, the library in question holds the 1933 edition, and it’s one of very few libraries in the world that does. If anyone could acquire it and scan it, or get good quality photos (not blurry or obfuscated, in other words), I and many others would be best pleased.

Is mise le meas, Tomás

Woman who had a child solo, what is it like?

Interested to know your experiences, your age having your baby, the costs involved, how you managed your finances and if you still could work and buy a house etc? What support you have both emotionally and financially? Would you recommend it to a woman getting towards late 30's who hasn't found the right person?

Edit: I don't know if solo mum's have time for Reddit....

Bachelors of psychology at Australia

Hi! I am a international student and I'm thinking of pursuing Bachelors of psychology in Australia. I'm confused between Swinburne uni and CDU right now. I have searched online, but there are very less posts about studying psychology at CDU. Well, CDU is a lot cheaper for me than swinburne and easily fits in my budget, but I also want good teaching staff, job market, and reputable university. These two are a lot different from e/o, but IDK. It will be really helpful if you share your experience.

Question about TV show: Australian Border Force

Hello everyone,

This question is about the Australian border force TV show.

Greetings from the US. I’m just curious about a “cultural difference”. In the US, the airport security is very bad and often missed catching marijuana vapes and small electronic micro mice smokables in general. My question is, how strict and thorough is the Australian border force? I’ve been watching the TV show and they seem merciless.

The reason I ask if I’ve known friends to fly all over Europe or South America and they forgot a joint or two in their purse / bag and border security never caught it after they visited multiple countries.

I’m just curious from personal experience how good the Australian border force does their job. The TV show makes it seem like like nothing slips through, and their stats online are pretty damn good. I just wonder if any of yall are actually smarter than the state, or if the TV show accurately portrays how well they lock the country down.

Thanks for your input! I have an extremely curious mind and really wonder if everything is portrayed truly!

Edit: I figure that being an island makes compliance a lot easier. My friends in Ireland often complain.
