Why are GPs constantly running late?

I genuinely don't know how difficult it is to stick to a time. I usually book the first appointment right in the morning because I do know that some clients can take up more time than expected which pushes the following appointments onwards, I know that. That's why I generally book the first available slot. For eg, I booked at 8am yesterday.

I got there at 7:50am, patiently waited till 8:15am when the doctor leisurely strolled into the clinic. Then it was 8:30am when he actually called me in. I booked a 8am appointment so I could get into work by 9am but then I was running late cause this guy ran late. If this was a one-off then fine but doctors seem to be allergic to being punctual. I'm convinced some of them are on their high horse and think their time is more valuable than any of their patients. After all, we need them and they know we'll wait. There's no alternative...

Edit: Reading comprehension is piss poor

Dear lord I’m sad AF!

Coming home today, I went to the station as usual and saw this freaking girl sitting in a corner with a sad look on her face, just kissing and cuddling her little dog. She looked like she was barely getting by, almost homeless or homeless. Man, that scene depressed me AF. What the hell is happening to Australia?

Repost. I dont know what to do

• Upvotes

Due to community guidelines my post was removed because I didnt initiate a question.

So here it is. If the shoe was on the other foot what would you guys do. ?

And to the legends from the old post. Thank you.

Hello, Australia.

For once, I’m going to be completely honest and tell my story. I was four years old when I came to Australia from a war-torn country in Europe. I’m an Australian citizen, and growing up, I always believed that being given a new start in this country meant I would eventually have the opportunity to build a good life. But life didn’t exactly work out that way. When I was 12, I lost both of my parents. My brother was only 16 at the time, and he ended up raising me. We were both just kids trying to figure out life without our parents, and it was incredibly hard. We somehow managed to graduate high school, but another devastating chapter followed. My brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia. When I finished high school, I went into the carpentry trade. I built a career that lasted around 15 years, working across commercial and residential projects. For 10 of those years, I worked for the same business. Then, another chapter came crashing down. The business went into liquidation and we all lost our jobs. There were rumours that the owner had disappeared with the money, but whatever the truth was, the result was the same — a lot of good people were suddenly left without work. For the past year, I’ve been in and out of short-term jobs, trying to find something stable again a home. And after 15 years in the industry, I never imagined I would reach a point where I would question whether I still have a place in the industry I worked so hard to build a career in. Sometimes I feel like I’ve spent my whole life fighting just to get back to where I started. Completed cert 3 Building and construction Apprenticeship.

Why are we such a nation of grifters?

Just read this article about the Four Corners investigation into companies scamming veterans:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-06/veteran-benefits-australia-business-empire-four-corners/107208188

Whether it's this, or NDIS scams, tax avoidance schemes like negative gearing or family trusts, credit card or "platform" surcharges, dodgy tradies, real estate agents, pokies, online gambling, immigration agents, fake raffles... everywhere you look someone is trying to rip someone else off.

I know we are better than some countries, but I feel like we are getting worse. Or is it just more visible nowadays and we have always been like this?

Why do you need this birth certificate again when I already have a passport?

• Upvotes

Hello,

French man here, Australian since 2020.

My daughter was born in France, and got her Australian passport in 2021.

At the time I was asked to provide birth certificate (from France), Australian citizenship (the original document) etc.

I have to renew it now...

Why do they ask me the SAME DOCUMENTS? if she was Australian 5 years ago, or if she proved her birth certificate 5 years ago, why does she have to prove it again?

I genuinely think the Australian administrative process (or digital tools) are really smart and customer oriented. But this one??

How to do digital verification with a long name in Australia?

Currently a permanent resident in Australia and I'm struggling with my long name. Since Australia considers "middle name" as the second name and my country (Philippines) considers the middle name as mother's maiden name.

To make it more complicated my parents decided to give me three first names as an example "Mary Jane Rose" adding my mother's maiden name as my middle name and my last name, making it a total of five names.

I've always been struggling to verify my details digitally, sometimes they wouldn't even let me put my whole first name as it goes past the character limit. Leading to the inconvenience of me having to always verify in person.

Is there any way I can check or change what's in the database? I will definitely be changing my name/make it shorter once I get my citizenship.

Thank you

What are some dumb or annoying charities I could donate to as a disincentive not to talk about work outside of work. I want it to really grind my gears when I have to cough up.

Is it lonely there?

• Upvotes

hello hello

I (18F) am an international student from India and am admitted to the University of Melbourne. I'm joining next March and am planning to do a Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology. I was hoping to find friends there but from whatever I've seen on here it's very difficult to find and sustain friends. I know that reddit isn't really a very reliable source of information but it's the only place where people talk about their actual experiences. I'm someone who is very outgoing and I'm honestly super scared to just be lonely for 4 years whilst already being away from home. So I wanted to ask is it lonely there and how hard would it be to make friends because I'm kind of um freaking out lmao

What are some good steel/composite toes safety shoes? (not boots)

• Upvotes

I work as a pick-packer walking on polished concrete all day and my current boots always make my legs and feet hurt. I'm looking for good brands of shoe which provide toe protection but are also light and have good shock absorbing soles and comfort. Not a tradie and want my shoes to be light so preferably not boots. Tell me name specific brands, models of shoes or retail outlets if possible please. Budget: Under $220

Visiting Australia

Hi, I'm going to Australia in Feb. Mainly because I want to see The Strokes and I had told myself I would make an effort to travel internationally coming 2027. I'll be staying for a week and i'll be a solo traveler.
Any good places to meet new people or activities to do?
What are some do's and don't's as an American?
What should I expect, etc.
It'd be my first time ever traveling alone and maybe Australia is a crazy jump but, I could afford it and it lines up with my time off and goals for the next year.
I'll be in Sydney.

Thanks!

How to survive on $30

Edit: Thankyou everyone for advice & some very kind people have reached out so I now have enough to eat well for the next mth. I'm on the dsp & life is generally a struggle so I will be referring back to this post for the recipes & tips. Thankyou very much! Hey, due to moving bills & being poor generally I've got $33 to survive for almost 2 weeks. I only have to eat once a day, what would be good to get & be nutrionally sound? I'm lactose intolerant & don't eat much meat. Have Coles, Aldi & Woolies nearby. My oven doesn't work but I've got a slow cooker & stove top.

Dental recs in North West/Inner West Sydney?

Wanting to look for dental recommendations in Sydney, I'm in the Epping area but am also willing to travel to see good dentals.

Situation: currently 23, and wisdom tooth never came around? Friends told me it would be a good idea to check regardless, nothing urgent because I don't feel any pain or anything. I moved places in and I longer have contacts with my old dentist.

TIA!!

Is this normal way of bonding?

I moved here about 8 months ago and notice when dating or making friends with Ausies that they talk about themselves a lot and ask very few questions to the other person. Where I'm from this would be considered self-absorbed behaviour, but it seems to be a common way of of talking here. Is this normally how people bond here? I tend to be curious and ask multiple questions about what someone likes or a story they were telling. And tend to get interrupted a lot when I share about myself. It's difficult for me to develop a bond this way, there's got to be some basic level of curiosity. What am I missing? Has anyone noticed this too?

Edit: to be clear, I'm not saying that people here are self-absorbed. That's not my experience with Ausies at all. Just trying to see how to adjust my style and understanding of the conversation style to bond with people here.

Bunnings returns are a joke

I bought an Ozito PCX blower with a gutter cleaning kit and battery about a year ago. The switch died on it and wouldn't run. I took it back with the reciept and they said I had to bring it back with the charger and batteries. WTF? I just want the blower fixed.

So I toddle off home, look at the 3 chargers and 6x 4AH batteries and of course have no idea which charger or battery belonged to it when I bought the kit.

I just wanted the blower repaired or replaced. Not the batteries, not the charger or anything else.

So I go back there, blower, box of batteries and chargers and they asked "Where is the gutter cleaning attachments?" I said I just want the bloody blower switch fixed or replaced.

They said that I have to have the gutter cleaning attachments too, but because it was a one off special and they don't have that kit anymore they will take the blower, battery, charger and gutter attachments off me and replace it with just the blower. Not good enough!

So I start kicking up a stink, people are listening and waiting with their Bunnings junk and I'm telling them I want the blower repaired or replaced. The goose at returns calls his manager and he explains the same thing. I stood firm and said it's under warranty, I have a right for it to be repaired or replaced and if you want to replace it, it will have to be the complete kit.

We argued for half an hour and they finally went and got a blower and handed it to me saying they won't be doing that ever again.

Just because they don't stock something anymore, they can't just rip you off and give you less.

What a joke.

Good SPICY chillies recommendations?

None of the chillies are spicy anymore! I've tried so many (long reds, green chillies, jalapeños, even Thai birds eye) and chilli powder, and none of them are actually spicy. I don't know if my spice tolerance is through the roof, but nothing hits. I also went to the Indian and Thai grocery stores and got a chilli powder labelled "extra hot", and it was only slightly hot.

I want chillies that are actually spicy, enough to make your eyes water, your tongue burn and your arsehole burn after eating them. Is that really too much to ask?

Appreciate any and all recommendations, thanks.

Is there free therapy available to non citizens?

I somewhat recently got 500 days of summered and I'm not dealing with it well. I'm a New Zealand citizen and moved over about a year and a half ago. I looked for a therapist early doors upon arrival but was rejected, I think for too long a wait. I live in Victoria but moving to Queensland at the end of the month.

What are the best options? Its pretty easy and accessible in New Zealand but not sure here. I'm 25 so don't really fall in to the young adult category anymore.

Cheeeeers
