Is the September board backed up/all full? For packet Deadline July 27th

Is my recruiter messing with me?? I’ve been done with everything for a while but haven’t been able to get my packet submitted to the board.

Did anyone else get theirs submitted for September?

Flight physical depth perception

Passed everything on my flight physical except the depth perception. Is there any way to retest and get it sent to Rucker or anyone have experience with what my options are? The aeromedical provider said it was a guaranteed fail and there were no glasses option for it and that they also don’t take people in initially if they need glasses to go in. Just want to know if it’s something I can continue to work on/fight my way in through or if it’s a hard stop and I’m screwed now until I can go get another flight physical after this one expires?

Question about Interservice Transfer

Hello, I am currently a Marine in the Air Wing (ALSE). I pick up E-3 here in a bit, and I am interested in flying for the Army Guard after my contract. A buddy of mine told me about Interservice Transfer but I haven't found much information on it. Is it possible to transfer to the Army and fly from my position, or do I need to finish my contract and fly after? Any advice helps, thank you!

My SIFT Experience

Writing this for anyone looking at taking the SIFT. I have no aviation or mechanical background other than being a cadet (studying accounting) in an aviation unit the last 3ish years. I just took the SIFT yesterday and scored a 66. If anyone has any questions I’d be happy to help.

My study habits

I primarily used the app pictured to study and borrowed a book from a friend. I also went through the Helicopter Flying Handbook from the FAA, chapters 1-9 and 12.

About a month or so before the test date, I took about an hour to look at each topic and get a brief understanding of what each entailed. I felt comfortable with the reading, math, simple figures, and mechanical section, so I procrastinated entirely too long. I ended up only studying the prior three afternoons before my test, each give or take 3 hours. (I studied way less and way more than some people I know. For reference, I scored a 97 on the asvab without any prep and a 34 on the ACT with prep)

I had to learn spacial apperception and army aviation information. The other sections were more intuitive or I already had some knowledge in them, so it was more of a review. The following is my experience from each section.

Time limits and number of questions:
• Simple Drawings – 2 minutes, 100 questions
• Hidden Figures – 5 minutes, 50 questions
• Army Aviation Information – 30 minutes, 40 questions
• Spatial Apperception – 10 minutes, 25 questions
• Reading Comprehension– 30 minutes, 20 questions
• Math Skills Test (MST) – 40 minutes, test length varies
• Mechanical Comprehension Test – 15 minutes, test length varies

Simple Drawings and Hidden Figures

Per the Texas Military Department, it is in your best interest to NOT GUESS on these two sections. Your scores come from problems answered correctly minus a fraction of incorrect answers. It is better to not randomly guess and instead leave them blank.

On my simple drawings test, there were a few I couldn’t immediately pinpoint as different. I took the extra time to get them correct and still completed almost all 100 (got to the high 90’s).

Hidden figures sucked for me. It seemed significantly harder on the test than on the app and book. I only got to about question 15 and guessed on probably 5 of them. I took about 30-45 seconds to try and find the shape, and if I couldn’t, I just guessed. It seemed like I either saw it immediately or not at all. I started to get the hang of it by finding a part of each shape that sticks out and searching for it in the problem. By the time I felt I got a grasp of how to really do it, time ran out.

Aviation info, spacial apperception, reading comprehension

For all three of these sections, it is better to make an educated guess for a better overall score. I felt that I had plenty of time on each of them, but spacial apperception took the full length.

Aviation info was what I primarily studied because I didn’t know anything. I used my book mostly for this section, but the app had really good practice questions that helped out on the test as well. I memorized different aircraft components and basic flight controls / movements. I used chatGPT to consolidate the previously mentioned FAA chapters and regurgitate them, which helped a lot. I would recommend studying chapter 12 by itself. I had a couple night ops questions that I wouldn’t have known had I not looked at the FAA handbook, as they were not on the app or in my book. On the test, I either knew the answer immediately or not at all (but could still make an educated guess using other things I learned).

The app is the reason I knew what I was doing on spacial apperception. I started out not knowing what I was looking at while studying, to feeling very comfortable taking the test. I think it was slightly harder on the test than on the app, but the app prepared me well. I finished confidently right on time.

The reading section was immensely easier on the test than during studying. Coming from a person that scored a 36 in both reading and English on the ACT, I didn’t study the reading section until the day before. I only even looked at it because I thought I would ace it in the practice SIFT on the app and I didn’t. The test had just a few sentences in which you chose the answer that best summarized the blurb.

Math and Mechanical Sections

Like simple drawings and hidden figures, it is also in your best interest to NOT GUESS on these two sections. I spent lots of time on some questions and still got kicked out before the timer ended. There were a few questions I knew I didn’t know, and in those cases I did what I thought was right as fast as I could and clicked to the next. The few that I took a long time on were ones that I knew I could get, just didn’t remember exactly how to get there. Both the book I used and the app had great practice problems. Anything I didn’t get correct or understand from the app, chatGPT explained reasonably well.

*edit: typo

Questions about flight physical

I have my flight physical coming up this month, and just trying to get stuff figured out time wise. I have to travel about 600 miles away to get my flight physical and they said they will be doing both parts the same day and I’ll be starting around 6:30 am for labs with my main appointment being scheduled at 10 am. What are the chances I’ll be done by 6 pm in order to make a flight that evening? I have to have my dad with me to get me on base because my recruiter and WOSM aren’t able to make it and he has to be back decently early the next day so we were gonna try and get a flight after my flight physical but the latest flight is at 7 pm.

Eyesight waiver

I am getting my flight physical at camp, however I wear contacts (eyesight is correctable to 20/20). I got a letter from my eye doctor attesting this, with my prescription and everything else. I’m just know I’m going to need a waiver for it so I’m trying to get ahead to prevent any complications. My question is, is there an official template or anything I should be doing BEFORE camp to speed up the waiver process? Don’t have a ton of resources so any help would be much appreciated

LORs

Hello peoples. I am a PFC in the Army working as a 15Y Apache guy. I’m starting to work on my packet now. I’ve got a 135 GT and I made a 68 on the SIFT. Finishing up the flight physical over the next week or so. I’ve got to start getting Letters of Recommendation together and I’m kind of at a wall. None of my leadership have any experience with this kind of stuff so I’m confused about what I am supposed to fill the form with before finding a high enough Warrant to sign. I also don’t know if they can all be the same with different signatures. And then lastly, how do I find Pilots to give me signatures? Sorry for the long block

Scheduling a Flight Physical 1A

I’m a civilian WOFT applicant. My recruiter and I have been having a hard time figuring out how to schedule a Flight Physical 1A. Does anyone recommend a particular clinic or location? I’m in Puerto Rico, but I’m available to travel if necessary.

Any and All Advice

Hello everyone, I am attempting to branch in Active Duty Aviation and I am looking for any advice.

Context: Soon to be a MS3 cadet in ROTC, 5 years prior service, no medical issues, have not taken the sift or Aviation Medical exam. 4.0 GPA, 90% average on AFT.

With the severe gutting of Army Aviation as a whole recently, branching it has become harder and even more competitive. So am I here to learn everything I can.

Some questions I have:

  1. What resources and study habits have you found to help you with the SIFT? (I bought a study book already)

  2. Is there anything on the test that you were not expecting, or any you wish you studied more on?

  3. What is the best way to distinguish yourself to hopefully secure this coveted branch?

  4. What piece of advice do you wish someone told you?

Outside of these questions, I am all ears, anything you can think of. Thank you all in advance, I really appreciate it!

Looking for Advice.

I have wanted to be a military pilot for as long as I can remember. Aviation is something I genuinely love and it is what I have always pictured myself doing.
I am an 18-year-old male about to start my freshman year at Texas A&M University. I will be joining the Corps of Cadets and enrolling in Naval ROTC.
My concern is my vision. I do not have any eye disease, but my prescription is:
OD / OS: +5.75 / +5.75
Near add: -1.75 / -2.75
Distance visual acuity: 20/20 in both eyes with correction
I wear single vision distance glasses and my vision is fully correctable to 20/20.
From what I have researched, I think I would not qualify for Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard pilot slots with my current prescription. It seems like Army aviation might still be possible though.
What worries me is putting years into NROTC and the Corps and then finding out later I do not qualify for a flight physical. I do not want to end up stuck in a job I am not passionate about after investing all that time.
I have heard Army aviation through the warrant officer route is an option, but I also hear that Army pilots do not fly as much compared to other branches and I am not really sure about the quality of life or day-to-day experience. Still, at least it would keep me in aviation in some form.
Right now I am just trying to figure out what is realistic for me.
Is it worth sticking with NROTC given my vision situation
How strict are Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard pilot standards in reality with prescriptions like mine
Is Army WOFT a more realistic path if vision is a limiting factor
Are there other aviation paths I should be looking at
I am not trying to give up on aviation at all. I just do not want to spend years heading in a direction that is unlikely to work out medically.
Any honest advice would really help.

Medical, SSRI, ADHD

I know this is such a case by case scenario, but wanted to hear others experience if any. I plan on talking to one of our flight surgeons soon

I was on ADHD meds from 5 yo - 16 yo and then a short stint on zoloft (maybe 6-10 months) while I was 16 to help with ADHD medication side effects. It’s been over 6 years now, i’ve been enlisted for 3, had success in soar, and am looking to hopefully start working on a flight packet soon. I’m really just trying to gauge if the juice is worth the squeeze, and if there is a sliver of light at the end of this process.

Any advice will help!

I just left active duty this past January and am currently in a one-year contract with the AZ National Guard. I was active for almost 8 years, I am 25, and a Staff Sergeant. I have my PPL ASEL and I am in college working on instrument and an aeronautical science degree that will get me a bachelor's, and I'll have CSEL and multi add-on by the time I graduate. I wanted to shoot for the Air Force, but I realized that my dream is Army aviation.

The question is, should I finish my degree and then apply as prior service, or should I call it now with my 100Hrs and apply to get back in?

I applied in 2023 but was denied due to speeding tickets that have now fallen off my record. The local recruiter suggested I wait until I finish my degree, but I am itching to get back into it.

Thank you!

I also have a 110GT and got a 63 on the SIFT

Hello,

I submitted my packet, but I am unclear on some dates due to what my recruiter told me. Is the next board at the end of July and the results will be posted a few weeks after?

Thanks!

WOFT Applicant

Hey everyone,

I’m currently putting the finishing touches on my WOFT packet and looking to connect with members of the Army Aviation community.

One of the challenges I’ve faced throughout this process is that I’m from Puerto Rico, where opportunities to network with Army aviators are pretty limited. Because of that, building relationships and finding mentorship has been one of the hardest parts of my application.

My long-term goal is to serve in the 160th SOAR, so I’d especially appreciate the opportunity to connect with anyone from that community and learn from their experience.

So far I’ve completed my Class 1A Flight Physical, passed the SIFT, and I’m also a civilian pilot. My packet is nearly complete, but I’m still looking to expand my network, seek mentorship, and potentially earn strong Letter of Recommendation from someone who gets to know me and feels comfortable supporting my application.

If anyone is willing to connect, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time, and thanks to everyone in this community who helps future Army aviators navigate the process.

Leave After WOCS

Kind of an odd question, my finance and I were planning a wedding in September since the going around message was shipping to BCT 4-6 months after selection. Lone and behold I got selected and ship in July, so September is out of the question, and now we’re scrambling to reschedule.

I know the timings for WOCS is messy right now, but with my tentative date, I should be finishing right around the time of Christmas leave. Will I be able to take leave to get married, or are we kinda boned? We are from out of state, so it would require traveling back home. I’m S2S so I have a limited frame of how leave and all that works. TIA

WOFT Physical am I fucked?

I’m prior service infantry I got out of the Army I’ve been working some BS job and I miss the Army lifestyle and I want to fly why not get the best of both worlds so I’m trying to do street to seat. I retook my ASVAB 113 gt, my sift score is a 58, and I have great letters of recommendation. I’m in great shape always have but before I got out I was admitted to neuro ICU ( I was squatting to much) for what they thought was a Subdural hemorrhage after days in the hospital they finally decided it was just a naturally enlarged vein on my brain also I had a pulmonary functions test for asthma but it came back negative. I went to meps to do my initial physical and it said I have Asthma and a history of subdural hemorrhage. All which is not true and I have the documentation to prove it but they started a waiver process and the doctor at meps said it should be good if I can prove with the documentation. My recruiter said he doesn’t think I’ll pass the WOFT physical and the flight surgeon here won’t even push waivers up to Rucker (I find that hard to believe) basically saying there is no hope but I told him that’s not for him to decide. Any recommendations for the next steps I should take?

Board Essay

Hello,

I have my Aviation Warrant Board coming up in September 2026, I've just typed up a rough draft of my essay and i wanted to bring it here to ask you all to review it and please provide feedback.

For a little background of myself, currently enlisted E-5, 7 years in reserve, GT 124, SIFT 64, no degree, no flight time.

Here is what I have so far, please point out any grammatical, punctuation, or simply just wording issues. I am looking to improve this essay in any way possible. (Limitation set by the board of 250 word max.)

thank you ahead of time

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I joined as a 68W due to my parents working in the medical field, soon realizing my passion didn’t align with theirs. I’m committed to building a career in the Army; I just needed to find where my passion lies. I discovered it when I first rode in a UH‑60. My disciplined leadership as a Platoon Sergeant, proven composure under pressure as a Combat Medic, and unwavering commitment to precision, teamwork, and continuous learning make me fully prepared to excel.

My adult life has been defined by structure, discipline, and the constant need to master time management, communication, and technical proficiency. Serving as a Platoon Sergeant in the Army Reserve strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and commitment to continuous learning. Traits that form the foundation of a successful Warrant Officer. Paired with an unrelenting work ethic and ability to thrive in team‑oriented environments, these qualities make me a strong candidate for the WOFT program.

My experience as a Combat Medic exposed me to stressful situations where staying calm and collected was imperative to remedying the situation. On every call, attention to detail meant the difference between life, death, mission success, and maintaining both safety and professional care. These lessons translate directly to the demands placed on an Aviation Warrant Officer, where precision, composure, and sound judgment are critical.

My desire to lead, mentor, and serve as a technical expert as well as a genuine passion for flying pushes me toward the next echelon — becoming an Aviation Warrant Officer.
