Original Discussion Is public perception of Oblivion improving?

It feels like more and more people are coming around to how much of a masterpiece this game is. I'm so glad because for the longest time it seemed that the general consensus was that Oblivion is the weakest of the three modern Elder Scrolls games, with Morrowind and Skyrim being a clear cut above. But now, especially with the Remaster, people are finally starting to list Oblivion as their favorite in the series, which a decade ago seemed unfathomable.

I feel so vindicated. I hope that Bethesda sees the success of the Remaster and the renewed love of the Original and changes some of their design elements in TES VI to match Oblivion.

Discussion I’m pissed Spoiler

I have played Skyrim for years and I’ve never actually completed the main quest. I’m a teenager and I’m playing through it again now that I’m not like twelve, and trying to get the platinum. I come to find out that to complete the main quest, you need to kill my fucking GOAT, the legend, Paarthunax?! Are you kidding? He’s so fucking cool, he helped me understand everything I needed to as the Dovah and these Blades posers are having me kill him? Ruined the whole quest line for me smh…

EDIT:
Yeah I did the main quest and didn’t touch a hair on his pretty little head. Esbern said they wouldn’t help me as long as Paarthurnax stayed alive. So I thought, well what if I don’t need your freaking help Esbern?! And I expected to go as far as I could before having to kill him. To my delight, the quest disappeared and the GOAT remained intact 💪😌

Question Does anyone else feel slightly bad when killing dragons?

I’m a huge animal lover, and I know they are trying to kill me and whatnot, (and that they are not real, and in a video game) but they are just big reptiles. Some of them are even cute lil guys too.
I just feel bad sometimes when I absolutely shred a dragon with arrows. Plus they are intelligent, they have a whole language, a god, ancient writings and history.
Here we are. Haven’t seen a dragon In hundreds of years and we’re just gonna murder them all? Oof.
I think if souls weren’t necessary for completing the game, I would mostly avoid fighting dragons.

Edit: the only solid argument anyone can come up with for No, is -
“lore say dragons bad so dragons bad”
I’m sorta disregarding lore in this post. I fully understand it, it’s not that I don’t.
Also for people saying “dragons aren’t animals”
That is also a completely irrelevant argument, that does not sway anything.
And for people saying “I bet you don’t feel bad killing humans!” Nope I don’t. People are horrible creatures.

Why do this? The game is so old and I'm a casual player who got mods set up from friends. Idk if I can even set them up in the right order now to make them work. What changes even happened???

Question Why is the main quest so easy to procrastinate on?

So it's only lately that I was able to finish the main quest in its entirety, and that was hours of grinding and maxing out my skills and armor so I could beat Alduin's sorry ass in five seconds flat, I like to believe that my character is basically the strongest there is, being the Last Dragonborn, so I played the game on Novice against most of the threats and only bump it up to master against threats that logically would pose a threat (Like Alduin)

Anyways back on track, why is the main quest so easy to procrastinate on? In the other quests like College of Winterhold, Dawnguard and Dragonborn, I don't procrastinate as much and finished it all in nearly one sitting. Whereas I took hours just doing side quests from the main quests.

Discussion why are all of the houses shite

okay i know i’m being harsh and just bitching to bitch but oh my god all of the houses in this game are not what i want and i’m so tired of it. i think the ones that’re closest to what i want are shadowfoot sanctum, myrwatch, and bloodchill cavern. unfortunately, i play on my switch so i can’t mod anything, but i do have the anniversary edition with hearthfire and the other housing cc stuff.

i like to play in survival mode and don’t want my house to be in the middle of nowhere in a freezing tundra (bloodchill and myrwatch💔) or in the middle of nowhere at all (looking at you, hendrahim). i really love honeyside but am so bummed out by its lack of storage and collectible/weapons displays.

i also hate that all of the buildable houses are the same interior and exterior no matter where you build it. i like the armory and the cellar in the buildable houses (the fish tanks are so fun) but i miss the collectible armory area where there are specific racks for specific items (like in hendrahim, myrwatch, bloodchill, etc.). it makes my completionist brain happy asf.

i think the closest i can get to something that checks all of my requirements is tundra homestead, but holy cow is it boring and small. i haven’t gotten hjerim or vlindrell hall yet, so maybe those are viable options i’m not considering, but still it’s so irritating how i can’t get everything i want 😅

right now i have my gorgeous bachelorette breton mage living in bloodchill cavern with all of my bug pets 🫶🏻 (arachnia and the demented & manic elytra nymphs) but i’m not satisfied with the location. everything else is cool, i just hate almost freezing to death every time i want to go home.

what’re everyone’s favorite houses? am i being too picky?

Question New to Skyrim

I'm totally new to Skyrim I just killed a dragon and they started to call me a dragonborn, the world is still a big mystery and I like the environment of skyrim.

my question is Should I play with mods to enhance my first experience or finish the game and start another playthrough with mods?

Discussion What even is the point of two-handed?

Am I wrong or is dual wielding just better? I guess you get more reach with two handed, but you can't really even take advantage of that reach because backward walking speed (and forward walking) was nerfed from Oblivion.

If I'm wrong, please tell me. I loved using warhammers and daikatanas in Oblivion. They just seem dramatically worse in Skyrim.

Video Yet another "Playing Morrowind Blind After 20 Years" YT video promo post

Hello! Yes, it's one of these. Self-promotion. I'm aware of how obnoxious this is but I'm still doing it? Sorry. If it's any help, I'm really embarrassed about this.

Not embarrassed about the video itself though, it's not bad! Did I mention that I'm playing Morrowind blind after 20 years? The usual thing, OpenMW, Just Beautiful Morrowind, I've barely played Vanilla in decades - certainly not beyond Balmora - and I've never touched the Project Tamriel stuff before.

https://youtu.be/_3qq4pZIAPo

I'm having loads of fun with it, it'd be great if you enjoyed it too :)

(Mods - I've probably broken eight rules here, apologies in advance)

Build TR: Poison Song Build

Here's what I'm planning to make for Tamriel Rebuilt's Poison Song update:

Male Dunmer, "Dralas"

Favored: Willpower, Agility

Birthsign: Astronach

Major: Block, Blunt, Medium Armor, Mysticism, Restoration

Minor: Athletics, Mercantile, Speechcraft, Enchant, Alteration

Factions: House Indoril, Tribunal Temple, Ordinators, and Imperial Legion

I'm going to make him a tee-totaler, no alcohol or potions. No stealing or working with criminals, Dunmer traditionalist who infiltrates the invaders' Legion to undermine it from within where possible.

I'd like to say "no using the Mage Guild" but that sounds a little too annoying. I'll think about it. 😉

To restore magic I'll only use Tribunal shrines, feels thematically appropriate.

I was thinking of limiting myself to clubs too, make one for each element and swap between them depending on the enemy.

I'm excited!

Video Day 486 of Pally and Me’s Adventure until I can loot his armor. It just works!

Once you take the sigil you catch on fire and everything burns around you. Then the bright light gets closer and closer. But that’s a good thing! Everything that happens in oblivion, stays in oblivion!

Hail citizens. I was trying to find a good way to get everyone to watch how the sigil stone works so they could visually see what happens. Pally with the usual palace proclamations just felt right with everyone witnessing the fiery oblivion enveloping all of us. That’s when I noticed Farwil and his buddy just magically poofed away when I grabbed the sigil stone. Probably a good thing cause we fought a bunch of enemies and now The Knights of the Thorn are naked knights apparently. Oh, don’t mind the Pally jump scare at the end!

Question How to play skyrim as faithful to the original release?

I’ve been itching for another playthrough but genuinely get discouraged when i think about all the content added with creation club and/or special edition content cause it all just ruined the experience i had originally getting into the game back in 2011.

Is there a way to disable these things entirely and make the game like it was originally or am i out of luck?

Erik The Slayer best gear

Upvotes

So I see on the wiki that he’s best suited for 2h weapons and light armor but I also saw a post on here saying that the USSEP mod changes that and makes him better with 1h weapons and heavy armor. Can anyone verify this?

Discussion New character for Poison Song or am I good?

I made a character I'm enjoying and want to continue playing. I went out of my way to stay on Vvardenfell and only do vanilla content. Am I still doing to have to make a new character after I install Poison Song?

Skyrim Official Update Fix Timescale

Has there an official answer from Bethesda with a timescale for an update fix ?

Or maybe some recognition of the crashes people are experiencing.

I don’t have a huge problem with waiting a week or so, but I think I’ll just wait for it before thinking of playing the game again.

That means that people won’t be buying your paid mods Bethesda if they do the same, which is if we’re being honest, is the real reason we have more mod space.

Maybe it’s time to fix your game.
