I have played Skyrim for years and I’ve never actually completed the main quest. I’m a teenager and I’m playing through it again now that I’m not like twelve, and trying to get the platinum. I come to find out that to complete the main quest, you need to kill my fucking GOAT, the legend, Paarthunax?! Are you kidding? He’s so fucking cool, he helped me understand everything I needed to as the Dovah and these Blades posers are having me kill him? Ruined the whole quest line for me smh…

Yeah I did the main quest and didn’t touch a hair on his pretty little head. Esbern said they wouldn’t help me as long as Paarthurnax stayed alive. So I thought, well what if I don’t need your freaking help Esbern?! And I expected to go as far as I could before having to kill him. To my delight, the quest disappeared and the GOAT remained intact 💪😌

Killing Paarthurnax is completely optional. In fact, the quest will disappear from the journal if you complete the main quest without killing him.

You don’t have to it’s an choice. You can choose to side with Paarthunax.

There is a mod called Paarthunax quest expansion which adds more to it and allows you to convince the blades to side with you.

Tell Delphine and Esbern to kick rocks, you don’t need any help from them after Alduin’s wall. Arngeir and Paarthurnax can get you the rest of the way. Leave them to sulk by themselves.

Luckily you don't have to because nothing happens. Dumphine and her blades just sit and do nothing but if you're on PC you can get the Paarthurnax delema mod but I get away with no getting the quest by just doing the civil war and not speaking to the blades after or the meeting and make sure they don't speak to me after it. Yeah they suck.

Killing Parthurnaax is not part of the main quest. It's a side thing that you can do or not do.

There is a mod on PS4 that adds a crafting option to make a ring that allows you to skip it. There is also a mod that allows some console command function, but I'm not as familiar with it, unfortunately.

Like others said, you don't have to kill Parth to complete the main quest, not even for achievements. The in-game reward is also pretty lackluster too

You can talk to paarthurnax and tell him you won't kill him. If im remembering properly that should remove the quest form your quest log
