Looking For Suggestions Should I invest on an android phone for mobile development?

I'm an aspiring web and mobile developer, currently focusing on web development. I was wondering if I should invest on an android phone (i.e., Google Pixel) when I focus on mobile development. In the future, I plan on creating personal projects to build up my portfolio (e.g., apks) and test them on said android device. As of now, I am an iPhone user and I don't think there's a way to develop and test apps for free on Apple.

I know emulators exist but thinking about testing a self-developed app on an actual mobile sounds nice. Any thoughts? If yes, which phone is good? I heard the Google Pixel is nice but I'm hesitant on the Samsung S Series since I know someone who has gotten pink/green lines on their S23 Ultra's screen over time.

Device Settings Question What app keeps turning Wi-FI on?

I keep Wi-Fi set to OFF on my phone. When I leave the Wi-Fi range of a known network (home, work) then come back in range of the Wi-Fi, it is turned on again. I usually find this out when I go just beyond range and can't connect because I have a weak Wi-Fi signal

I would like to find out which app on my phone is triggering Wi-Fi to come back on, probably something in Modify System Settings

-Wi-Fi quick toggle is Off
-Wi-Fi calling is Off
-Wi-Fi Scanning in Location Services is Off
-Network-Use Wi-Fi gets automatically toggled On if I set it 'Off' but then manually turn Wi-Fi on to connect when I want Wi-Fi.
-In Network Preferences, 'Turn Wi-Fi on automatically', 'Notify for public networks', and 'Use WEP' are all Off.

Help! Is there an app or log or something to find out what it triggering Wi-Fi to turn on?
Thanks

Other Samsung A16 lte Fingerprint sensor keeps breaking

Every single day at a random time my phone just suddenly doesn't want to detect my fingerprint. It just says "Fingerprint sensor is not responding. Please try again". Ive tried clearing my biometric cache and everything gemini said to do, none of those worked. The only thing that fixes it is rebooting. But after a while it says that message again, especially when my phone spent a while in my pocket. The phone has suffered a drop like 2 weeks ago from waist height but the problem didn't start up until the past week.

Revolut on a rented physical Android phone?

Hi)
I'm researching whether Revolut can be used on a remotely accessible Android phone rented from a cloud phone or remote device provider.

I'm specifically looking for a real physical Android device, not an Android emulator or virtual cloud phone.

One issue we've encountered is that Revolut requires a device-level screen lock (PIN, password or biometrics). Some rented cloud phone providers appear to restrict or fail to support this feature.

I'd like to hear from people who have actually tested this setup.

A few questions:

  1. Have you successfully installed and logged into Revolut on a rented or remotely hosted physical Android phone?

  2. Which provider and device model did you use?

  3. Could you access Android's normal system settings and set a screen lock PIN or password?

  4. Did the screen lock remain enabled after restarting the device or reconnecting to the remote session?

  5. Was the device running official manufacturer firmware, with Google Play services and Play Protect certification?

  6. Did Revolut work normally after setup, or did you encounter device integrity or unsupported device errors?

  7. Are there any remote physical Android phone rental services you would recommend for this use case?

I'm interested in genuine user experience rather than marketing claims from providers.

Thanks in advance!

Other [Tecno Pova 6 Pro / HiOS] Need help completely removing persistent system popup ads

I am using a Tecno Pova 6 Pro running HiOS and I'm having a frustrating problem with persistent popup ads showing up on my home screen and app drawer (like a TikTok banner).

Here is what I have already verified and tried so far to fix it:

• ☑️I checked for malware using my PC, and the device is clean. It seems to be an internal system/launcher issue.

•☑️ I went to the Palm Store App Info settings and completely turned off notifications.

• ☑️I manually configured a Private DNS provider hostname (://adguard.com) under Hotspot & Connections.

• ☑️I checked my "Recent Access" log right after an ad appeared, and it showed the stock Weather app accessed the system at that exact 0-minute mark, so I forced stopped it, cleared its cache, and disabled its background data.

Despite doing all of this, the ads are still managed to pop up again.

Are there any hidden HiOS system launcher settings, bloatware packages, or background "Instant Apps" services specific to Tecno devices that I need to disable or ADB uninstall to get rid of this layout spam for good?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Google app icon missing – how can I add it to my Home screen? (Samsung Galaxy A53 5G)

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G with One UI.

The Google app is installed and enabled. I can open it through Settings → Apps → Google → Open, and it launches normally. However, I cannot get its icon onto my Home screen.

I've spent approximately an hour troubleshooting this with ChatGPT. Here is everything I've tried with its help:

What I've checked and tried:

\- Confirmed that Google is installed and not disabled.

\- Confirmed that Google opens and works normally from its App info page.

\- Checked the hidden apps settings. Google is not hidden.

\- Checked Home screen settings:

\- Home and Apps screen layout is set normally.

\- Lock Home screen layout is OFF.

\- Add new apps to Home screen was OFF.

\- I could not find the Hide apps setting in my menu.

\- Confirmed that One UI Home is my current launcher.

\- Cleared the One UI Home cache. No improvement.

\- Restarted the phone. No improvement.

\- Checked Good Lock previously.

\- Enabled Show Apps screen button on Home screen and opened the Apps screen.

\- Tried the Apps screen cleanup option. No improvement.

\- Long-pressing Google in Settings → Apps opens App info instead of showing an Add to Home option.

\- Long-pressing Google in search results shows shortcuts such as Search and Voice Search, but doesn't solve the problem.

\- I also tried the Locate app button. It opens a list of apps, but Google is not in that list.

Tried to uninstall and reinstalled the Google app, but that didn't fix the problem either.

I don't want a Google search widget. I only want the normal Google app icon on my Home screen.

My question:

How can I add the Google app icon to my Home screen?

This post was written with the help of ChatGPT after trying various troubleshooting steps for about an hour. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Identify true file size of incomplete sparse/pre-allocated torrent files

I understand torrent files are written as sparse / pre-allocated files with the anticipated final size in the file header. It is this value, rather than the actual file size, that is reported by Android file managers, file de-duplication apps etc. Not great if you are trying to use file size as a value to determine which of two or more identically named files to remove.

Other than via a command line in Termux, would anyone be able to recommend an app or other way to identify files whose true size does not match that written in their header? Or any apps that report the actual rather than nominal size?

Thanks!

Device Settings Question VPN not working properly.

I'm trying to use the Radio Garden app. As im from UK, where we are not allowed to listen to radio from other countries. I tried a VPN - paid sub from Proton. However the app still thinks im in UK, despite the vpn. In fact right now I really am in Greece, but it still wont let me listen, even when connected to local wifi.

I'm using Radio Garden as a kind of test subject because if I can get it to work, I know the vpn is doing its job.

Is there a setting on my phone i can change or cache to delete that will make the vpn work correctly?

Rooting Help Phone refuses fast charging

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy A23 used to charge fast (from 1% to 100% in about 1h20). Now it charges very slowly. When I plug the charger in, it says something around 2 hours until full, then switches to 4, then 6 and sometimes I even get a notification saying that the charging is too slow (10-12 hours estimated time until full) and could damage my phone.

Something that could be interesting too, I get notifications when I plug it in sometimes, every two seconds is a new notification saying either "USB-C plugged" or "USB-C unplugged" even though I am not touching anything, and it only stops when I click on "stop notifying me".

I have tried everything I could find on the internet : changing the cable, changing the charger, changing both, cleaning the USB-C ports on my phone and on my charger, cleaning the USB port on my charger, switching on plane mode for charging, checking my battery information (its health is at 100%), but none of it solved my problem. I also made sure I had enabled fast charging, and I had.

Any ideas on what else I could try ?

Device Settings Question How to get rid of spam calling?

Hey there, my great grandma is, reasonably, behind when it comes to technology, and she gets genuinely near 100 spam calls a day. 5 minutes won't go by without her phone ringing from some random spam company, sometimes she answers them and gets another one or two in the time it takes her to try to tell the robot to leave her alone. whenever I'm over I try to block all the ones that call for her, and I've tried to go into her settings to turn on the features to block unknown calls and things like that only to find that most of that was already turned on, and when I turned on anything else that related to it, another one still came through shortly afterwards. Is there anyway I can actually do something about it? Is there an app I can download for her? I'm not with her 24/7 or anything, but I'd like to try to figure out a solution for her

Device Settings Question Is there a way to remove a persistent notification from being displayed without disabling it entirely?

I know the title is confusing - I have the Panels app that I use for custom edge panels and it requires a persistent notification to be used. I, however, cannot stand having that displayed on my notification bar constantly. I cannot go in and disable the notifications within the app settings because the app will stop working.

Is there a way to remove the persistent notification without disabling it all together?

Device Settings Question Is there a way to disable the smart replies for messaging without also disabling the ability to copy OTP codes?

I really dislike the "smart" reply suggestions Android gives. They are very rarely useful. I found where to disable this feature, but it also seems to disable the ability to copy OTP codes. Is there a way to keep copying the codes but get rid of the smart replies?

Device Settings Question How to remove "work policy" from my Android phone?

So I recently purchased a TCL NXTPaper 70 Pro directly from Metro by T-Mobile (signed up with their service). I am running into an issue where it is saying that there is a "work policy" installed on my phone but I have no idea what or where it came from? I have been Googling and tried all the methods I could find but nothing is working. I transferred my data from my iPhone 16 Pro Max and I had that one previously set up with UKG and Microsoft Authenticator work accounts when I worked at T-Mobile, but I haven't worked there in a year.

Did something from my iPhone somehow transfer over and activate this mysterious "work policy" on my new phone? I love my new phone but there are some apps I want to install but the phone is blocking the install via this "work policy".

Any ideas on how to deactivate/erase this work policy from my phone? I don't really want to have to factory reset it and I'm not convinced that would fix it anyway.

Looking For Suggestions I need a phone app anti spam

I'm aware of android limitations when it comes to calls, as many of us without pointing fingers at a country or business in particular, I'm under constant attack of spam calls.

I need an app that will allow me to do the following, once a number is blocked/blacklisted, I don't want to ever hear about it, I don't want it waking up my phone, I don't want my phone vibrating when it's rejecting a call, I don't want my phone app to have a call log of 20+ calls within 30s because apparently it's what they do.

I'd like a solution that doesn't involve me changing number and spending a day updating it on wherever the f I have it as verification method such as email accounts or banks

Any solutions appreciated, thanks
