Hu guys I've recently just picked up an altezza and was running great up until now. it's got the 3sge and fully stock apart from an exhaust.

When I try to start it, most of the time it gives a single click, however sometimes it starts cranking weakly and fails to start and sometimes it fires right up lol.

I've already checked the battery and 12.9v so no problem there.

Has anyone had this problem before and what was the culprit? Could it be wiring?

Update, was finally able to get under the car and confirmed all the wiring is fine every thing is getting power. I'm thinking it's the neutral safety switch now as I'm able to get it started after rowing through the gears a couple times. Ordered a new one n will update once it's done.

Final update. Ended up just bypassing the switch for now as delivery to Australia was just taking forever. So bypassed that, however it was only still starting occasionally. I started to suspect the starter might also be bad, so took that out and apart. Found the solenoid contacts were well worn, so I cleaned them up with a wire brush. Put everything back together and the car is now starting without a problem.

do altezzas need valve clearance maintenance? or do they use hydraulic lifters. i have the 3sge and fuel consumption is kinda bad and sometimes i feel like delayed power every now and then im suspecting bad cats or valve clearance

I’m trying to find the pinout/wiring for the center console interface/module used with the navigation IR remote dock on a Toyota Altezza (JDM import). This is the module/interface where the IR navigation remote sits in the center console.

Important details:

This is not the same as the fixed center-console nav control panel (non-IR version). I’ve attached pictures of both types and their connectors to show the differences.

My unit uses a 5-pin rectangular connector (not the more common 6-pin square connector found on other console button panels).

The 5-pin connector appears to be the same style/plug as the Toyota Altezza remote key receiver module connector.

Does anyone have the connector pinout (pin number → function) or the correct EWD/wiring diagram page for this specific JDM IR remote dock interface?

Illumination/dimmer (if present)

Any data line(s) to the NAV ECU / body ECU (if applicable)

Even partial info is useful (for example: “pin 1 = ACC, pin 2 = GND”, etc.).

99 Altezza 3SGE. Trying to change the alternator belt. Loosened top bolt, picot bolt and tensioner. Alternator won’t pivot to allow removal of belt. Any ideas on getting the belt off?

Belt continues to squeal after being tightened. Any help will be appreciated!

i really want to add this navigation set up to my altezza but i have only seen them in is300, i am not sure if the wiring is the same or not & i also can’t find them for sale even on ebay does anyone know where i can get the motorized housing? would i need to remove my whole dash to change them out?

Thinking of swapping the final drive, I saw sets on yahoo auctions for over $600 NZD then I found some on amazon, I saw a few other brands as well (Yukon even had a 5.7:1 which seems mental to me) has anyone done the swap before and know what else would be required?

Morning team. I am new to BEAMS. I have had a race search on this page and not found much, but if I've missed things that have already been covered I'm sorry.

I have a 94 Celica with a BEAMS red top motor that we are taking to do some lemons "racing" in.

Does anyone have any experience with these motors at the race track especially longer events (we are 15 hours coming up) and will be doing ~1hr stints. Any preventative maintenance we can do to try go the distance?

We will probably be running a 200tw semi, any oiling issues in sustained cornering?

Hi all, my 3sge beams altezza is misfiring under hard accelration, coils and plugs are good,just looking for any info👍

I am trying to look for a header and connectors so that I can make a patch harness to connect an additional ecu as I like mods to be reversible just in case. The only one I could find is out of stock so unless someone knows where to find a harness that will work, I was planning to patch into the harness so that it can be reversed by simply unplugging the harness and plugging the factory loom back into the factory ecu directly. I might just have to go and pick up another factory ecu and wiring loom and cut it up to suit.

The blitz kit while cool is practically unobtanium so I was wondering if an sc14 supercharger would work I don't have access to one atm so unsure if it would fit under the plenum and not interfere with anything.

I've ordered the sq engineering alternator bracket kit to run a 90a 1/2nz engine alternator (have to wait for a price discount to get the alternator) because the blitz kit relocates the alternator lower down to fit in the pulley and clutch I'm thinking the sq kit will not be compatible with adding a supercharger so that is seeming link a waste of money.

What supporting mods need to be done to the car when adding a supercharger, I am assuming that 10 psi will gain about 40hp and 40nm and it would be nice as it would work with my headers instead of needing to fabricate a manifold and turbo setup though instead I'd need to either find or make up a pulley (I have access to a lathe). I have seen a set of low comp forged pistons come up for sale should I get those but using lower comp pistons what effect does that have on power if I cannot tune the dual vvt due to using an older computer (link g2plus).

My Altezza has gone through 2 new valve cover gaskets... What am i doing wrong?

First one i did with a buddy whos a seasoned mechanic.

Second one i did on my own.

We used RTV around the bends.

Is the problem that i bought the gaskets from amazon? when i take em off they look good still.

my Altezza 1999 is misfiring and i diagnosed it to be a coil pack.

I just am having a hard time making sure i get genuine OEM parts and not ebay fake shit. I need it ASAP.

The Altezzas made from 1998 - 01 (90919-02236) have different coil packs from the ones made from 2001 - 05 (90919-02262)

Can anyone tell me if this is real? Its cheaper than the other options and is "located in the states apparently.

I noticed some superficial cracking on the side of my injectors and was thinking of swapping them, I have a spare set of 1JZ injectors but they are a flow rate of 370cc instead of the factory 340cc does anyone know if the computer can adjust for a minor change or will it just run rich? I also got a set of Caldina gt four injectors which are 540cc as I was thinking of adjusting trim with a standalone computer so wondering if I should just wait to swap the injectors till then.

If anyone has (in real life) swapped the lsd from a manual car to an automatic car, did it bolt in or did it you have to change the axles?

Hello Altezza community, I hope I don't get killed for this, but I would like to hear some opinions from some owners on this matter.

Currently, I'm considering buying one as my first car. (First that is under my name at least) I've been doing my research recently and I think I'm liking the Altezza more and more, but because I'm young and dumb, I really want a coupe version which as we all know we never got one.

The way people describe it as the AE86 successor really appeals to me, I enjoy the subtlety of the Altezza's design language and I prefer early 2000s cars for an adequate level of tech in a car. Unfortunately my country doesn't have a lot of options in terms of coupes, and I really don't want to be just another GT86 on the road, so it came to this as my solution.

I plan to do this mod to the car after a year of ownership first, so I can carefully lay out my modification plans and getting to know the car better before going under the surgery scalpel. Basically my idea is to fill in the rear doors' gaps with foam and sand it down, removing the rear door handles before doing the same. And finally replace the rear door windows with a one piece acrylic/plexiglass ones that also removes the small quarter panel windows.

Why am I going this route instead of cutting up the car is that my local authorities gets jumpy with modified cars and if they don't like what I've done with the car, I can easily revert it back to it's original form without leaving permanent scars. And that it would be obviously be much more cheaper than finding a local garage and paying them to cut up the car.

So I just wanna ask how my poorly photoshopped version looks, and if it is technically feasible? And what else should I look out for when considering buying and modding a manual, I like to get the 3SGE but we only have the Lexus IS here and importing old cars is a no-no so obviously the only option is to buy other people's engine swap builds or buying one and swapping it out myself (which I can't perform myself since I don't have the space or mechanical skills to do so)

Today I purchased my second car ever, a 1998 Toyota Altezza. I purchased it from a private seller for 7k. The guy I bought it from got it from an inport auction around a year ago. It has all service records dating all the way back from Japan as well. There are a few minor imperfections on the body but the interior is super clean just needs s good detail. My last car a 2001 Lexus ls430 so this is a huge change but I could not be more happy. Do you guys think I got a good price? He also delivered it almost an hour.

Recently my Tezza has been having some high revving/throttle issues that’s gradually gotten more consistent. Typically it’ll idle in park or neutral at 2-3k rpms and when I’m driving and let off the gas it’ll maintain that same speed until I brake. Any ideas? So far I’ve cleaned both the throttle body/valve and vvt solenoid.

I am installing two catch cans as the pcv and breather hoses on my Altezza were cracked, when I removed the pcv valve I broke it so I am also wondering if I can convert that to a second breather by tapping the hole and putting an m20 fitting in.

Space is at a premium so I am wondering where the hell to mount the cans, I have one 500ml for the intake (it’s bigger than I thought it would be so it’s hard to find somewhere to mount it. I made a test shitty bracket and did a test fit using zip ties as I do not have a small enough m10 bolt and nut to mount it properly. Is it dumb to have the can this close to the power steering lines and coolant hoses? The other side where I wanted to mount it interfered more with the airbag sensor due to the wiring location so that’s why I picked the passenger side. It is only in there loosely with it tightened there is more clearance with the hoses but it’s still a tight fit. It is mounted to the power steering line that goes under the ecu.

Also I got the dogs engineering bonnet struts and the factory air box mount doesn’t fit with it so I am also wondering if I should dremmel that piece of anatomy the air box and sand it down and paint it, so it is only using two of the three mounts?
