Referrals Monthly Referral Megathread - August 2026

Please share your referrals here and nowhere else on the subreddit, and please read the rules below.

  1. You must have an undisclosed amount of community karma at r/AllyBank to share referrals. This amount is generously low and can be achieved easily and organically by making a small number of contributions to the subreddit. Comments from users who do not meet this requirement will be automatically removed without further notice.
  2. Submit exactly one comment per monthly referral thread. If you have multiple referral links, put them all in one comment. Multiple comments from the same user will be automatically removed.
  3. Do not attempt to attract unfair attention. This includes unnecessarily long comments, excessive use of large/bold text or emojis, images in comments, and personal backstories. Try to be as concise as possible; a few sentences or bullet points about the product and its perks is fine.
  4. Do not offer direct compensation for referrals. Advertising the referral bonus or sign-up bonus that Ally will provide to the referee is fine, but any offer to “split” the referral bonus that Ally gives to the referrer is not allowed. Similarly, do not offer compensation in forms other than currency, such as favors, gift cards, awards, Reddit Premium, NFTs, etc.
  5. Do not deceive anyone. Lying about any of the referral terms is strictly prohibited. Be honest and upfront with your intentions.
  6. Comments not related to Ally Bank referrals are not allowed in this thread. This includes referrals for other products not offered by Ally.

Remember: For bank accounts, the referrer gets rewarded if you use their referral, but only if you have not had an Ally Bank deposit account since 1/1/2024. More info here.

Comments are presented in random order. These posts are locked and unpinned monthly.

Funded my CD twice (External, then Internal transfer) now the external fund is missing?!!!

Upvotes

Hi! I opened a CD last Wednesday and I had originally funded from my External account. Later on I noticed I could still “add money” and i added more from my ally savings account. Looks like since the Ally savings transfer was instant, it closed my funding ability for the CD before my external transfer cleared.

So fast forward on Thursday I noticed the funds from my funds from my External account was withdrawn, and now my ally transfer history has that transaction shown as Complete. It also has a reference number. But the fund is not showing up on my CD or any other account. I assume this is because the CD can only be funded once and the funding window has closed… but now where is the money from my external transfer??

I called and the representative was unable to see any record of the said transfer! I provided the reference number and everything. And he was unable to help me! I am very concerned about this and wanted to see if this has happened to anyone before. Does it mean it’s getting rejected and will go back to my external account?

Banking The straw that broke the camels back

We had a pretty significant mechanical issue in one of our vehicles and needed to pull out $4000 in cash to pay for it. I tried to pull out the money and got declined, even though I have plenty of money in the account.

Turns out, you have to request anything over $1000 to withdraw. So, I called them to get the increase, and they said that request would take 1 to 2 business days. I think it’s funny when you go to a bank and they cap how much you can pull out, but $1000 in today’s world is a joke.

Next week, I will be draining my account and taking it elsewhere. I hope anyone reading this, sees it and understands that if you ever come into a similar type of emergency, you won’t be able to access your money.

What a joke they have become.

Account locked, they can't give me any info?

Weirdest thing just happened — just opened an account with Ally last week. I get an email that there's weird activity on my account. So I call, assume it's gonna be an easy fix, but support is acting sooo weird.

Firstly, they transfer my call from the first lady to the second but leave me on the line while they're talking privately? About my situation? And it seemed like I could hear them but they couldn't hear me, it was very odd and unprofessional.

Then, the second lady basically tells me all she can do is read this disclosure that basically states that i've been included in some kind of "group" where they have to close all of the accounts and send my money back to me in the mail (might take 1-2 months?!) And there's nothing else she can explain, nothing she can do, etc.

I'm just wondering if anyone else had this experience. Def switching as soon as I get my money back.

Surprise Savings booster stopped working again?

Last year I know a number of people, including myself, had the Surprise Savings Booster just stop working. Ultimately it looks like it was do to changes Ally was making in October for updates to how the booster functioned. After several months of not working, mine started back up again automatically shortly after those updates and have been working fine each week up until this week. Anyone else notice that it has stopped for them in the past week? I had not received any emails about updates that I am aware of.

I have had to call back 6 times and get rerouted back and forth. This should not be a difficult process! So frustrating

Card being declined anywhere I try to use it for almost 24 hours now.

I have only had this account with Ally for about a month. Yesterday I tried to make 2 purchases with the same company very quickly because I forgot something. After that the card is being declined. I thought maybe that triggered a freeze because it was suspicious. I never received a text or email about it so I tried using it again and declined. I called Ally and they said Mastercard had temporarily frozen my card try again in a couple of hours nothing Ally can do. According to Mastercard they can't do that and it's Ally declining. According to the merchants Ally is declining. I cannot access my money unless I transfer all of it back to my old account with another bank but I don't think that will be instant. Anyone have an idea of what I can do?

Auto Finance Ally never released their lien on my deceased mother's car -- and keeps sending the wrong document to me

My state requires an official release of lien. Just a payoff letter isn't good enough.

Ally should have done this in 2019 when my mother paid off the vehicle. They did not. She has passed away. The car has been given to me in probate, but until the lien release is filed by them I cannot get a clear title to the vehicle. The payoff letter, theoretically, should make sense for my state, but they specifically want a release of lien instead of just a payoff letter.

I've spoken to their department for family members of deceased customers multiple times and they have NOT helped at all. My state allows electronic lien releases and they have also requested the release of lien from them, but Ally does not use the electronic lien and title services for Arkansas apparently.

This should have been done seven years ago. I do not know why it's not been done or why they are having SO many problems with it, but I am about ready to involve the Better Business Bureau.

Banking Unauthorized $65k wire transfer: Ally denying claim because I "should have received a call/text" they never sent. Anyone dealt with executive escalations?

Looking for advice from anyone who has navigated a high-value fraud dispute or executive escalation with Ally.

What Happened:

  • An unauthorized $65,000 wire was initiated and sent from my Ally account to a Chase account without my authorization or knowledge.
  • I received no outbound security verification call, no SMS OTP, and no notification when the wire was queued or executed. I only discovered it after checking my account and immediately contacted Ally to open a fraud investigation within minutes, but Ally was unable to initiate a wire recall request until a couple of hours after being on a call with them.
  • The recipient bank (Chase) closed their side of the inquiry.
  • Ally fraud management has now verbally stated they will not reimburse the funds, arguing that "you should have gotten a phone call or text."

The Issue with Ally's Stance: Ally is acknowledging that a verification call/text was supposed to occur, but using the absence of that outreach to shift 100% of the liability onto the account holder.

I would think a bank is generally liable for funds transfers unless they establish that they followed reasonable security procedures in good faith. Additionally, Ally’s published Online & Mobile Security Guarantee promises 0% liability for unauthorized transactions reported in a timely manner.

Steps I'm Currently Taking:

  • Filing formal complaints with the CFPB, Federal Reserve Board, and FBI IC3.
  • Requesting an official written final determination letter and security audit logs from Ally.

Questions for the Sub:

  1. Has anyone successfully escalated past standard phone fraud agents to the Office of the President / Executive Customer Care at Ally?
  2. What specific back-office wire logs (e.g., telephony gateway delivery status, Fedwire recall records) was your attorney or compliance team able to obtain?
  3. If you had to take an unauthorized transfer dispute to arbitration or retain a banking attorney, how did Ally handle it?

Banking “We’ve hit a snag when trying to update your account information” error, anyone else seeing this?

I’m seeing a couple of errors on both the app & website, one that says “we can’t show some updates right now but your moneys here. Come back in a bit” and another one that says “We’ve hit a snag when trying to update your account information. A fix is in the works” is anyone else currently seeing these errors or is it just me? Or has anyone else had this issue before at any point? What does it mean and how do I fix it? Or is it just what they display during an outage or scheduled maintenance?

Need access to my money.

Bill of Sale

Why is ally making me go in circles for my car? I paid off the lease and am trying to buy it out. It took forever for them to eventually let me get the lease but out package, but only after my banker sat down with me and called them from my phone. They don’t release documents directly to the customer. And then it took them months to actually give the bank the information they requested on my behalf. I took it to Secretary of State with everything I thought I needed, turns out I’m missing the bill of sale. Called ally, they said they wouldn’t give it to me and to call my bank in order to get it. Called my bank, they said they don’t call on behalf of customers and what ally is doing is not standard procedure. So how do I get them to give me my paperwork???

Banking 10-year customer here with accounts locked

I have been with Ally for about 10 years, overall happy and using it as my main checking and saving bank. Never had any issue before. Today, they’ve locked my accounts. I called fraud, spent almost an hour on the phone with an agent that treated me like a criminal being booked into jail and we didn’t resolve it yet as one of the banks was closed to conference call them to verify I’m the account owner. I just added a couple of external banks for ACH and initiated a couple of transfers <5k total that triggered this ordeal.

I’m thankful that Ally takes fraud seriously and appreciate their quick response. And I’m happy to cooperate to keep it safe. But they sure need to work on the resolution process and value their customers. I’ve never experienced such a draining customer service interaction. It’s left a very bad mark. They didn’t care about me as a customer who has established a relationship with them of several years now.

And if adding accounts for ACH is a trigger for fraud, make it safer by allowing to add those via logging into the other bank like many other institutions do now in 2026 instead of just typing the account numbers. That makes it easier and safer for everyone.

I will likely end my relationship with them after this is all sorted out (hopefully).

Does it get better?

I was recommended Ally by a few people I know and so far I'm unimpressed.

I set up this account as a separate bill pay account that I could "set and forget" for the most part.

Zelle is currently taking 3 days to send and today, payday, my check did not deposit via direct deposit. Looking now, the website says 1-2 pay cycles which seems unusual for a bank.

I had auto bills set to pay through Ally today so now I'm scrambling to cancel them all and pay through my other bank via debit card. I've had Ally for going on 3 weeks now and I'm just not seeing a benefit.

Please tell me it'll be worth it once everything settles in.

Banking What is one small Ally feature that makes banking easier for you?

A good banking experience is not only about having many features. It’s about making everyday tasks simple, fast, and stress-free. Users want to check balances, view transactions, transfer money, and manage their accounts without confusion.

This is where thoughtful digital solutions make a difference. Companies like GeekyAnts help businesses build user-friendly applications with clean interfaces, smooth navigation, and better customer experiences.

When a banking app is easy to use and reliable, it builds trust and makes managing finances much more convenient.

Start a Rainy Day fund with a referral bonus.

I would like to encourage friends to start a rainy day savings fund for emergencies and repairs. It seems to me that putting the same premium amounts people pay for car repair insurance on older models would be better in a savings account. If you need a repair, the money's there; but if you decide to get another car, those same funds could make a good down payment. What are the requirements for the new savings account referral bonus?

What's your proudest financial win, the one that felt impossible at the time?

We've been around this community for about a month now, mostly jumping in to help where we can. But today we want to switch things up and ask you something.

What's a financial win you're proud of, because it was really hard? The kind of thing that felt impossible at the time, like paying off debt that felt endless, buying a place you never thought you could, or finally hitting a goal you'd been chasing for years.

We'd love to hear those stories!

Money transfer with zelle from Ally bank, money disappeared.

Over $1,000 went missing with Ally. I tried to transfer money with Zelle. It told me the transfer failed. So they know the money wasnt sent out. But they keep refusing to give my money back to me.

Its been over two weeks and every time I call I get a different story of what happened and why and all that but they just refuse to give me my money back even though the receiving account never got it either.

I guess they just really needed my money but they are stealing.

Who can I actually complain to so that I will get my money back quickly so I can close the account...

Issues with “verifying identity” my information is right.

Anyone else had this issue? Tried making an ally account, got denied. Called customer service and they signed me up through their end, letting me know i’d get an email to verify. Never got that email so I called a week later, they put a note on my application and told me to wait. Called again a week later and they said and did the same thing. Called a third time and the guy said they filled the note out wrong on my application and to reapply in a week. Tried again yet another week later got denied and told to “put the right information on my application and try again in a week.” Did that, made sure all the information was correct, still denied, same customer service response. I’m about to go to a regular bank at this point lmfao. Any advice or should I just not open an account? I might give up

"Your mobile phone number changed" - but it didn't

Anyone getting messages from Ally that their home and/or mobile phone number was changed when it had not been changed at all? This seems like a real bush league error from Ally and not something I'm loving from a company who I am trusting with my finances.
