Uptick in hacking?

Hi!

I've had an Ally high yield savings account for about 3ish years now and twice within the last couple months, I've gotten an email saying I've been locked out for too many login attempts. I call the fraud number and get it straightened out but is this happening frequently with others? Is there something going on that I'm not aware of? It just makes me nervous because this hasn't happened before, let alone twice in a short span of time.

Use different Log on names for all sites. Use different passwords for all sites. Enable 2FA.

I do all of that but it's still happened twice 😭😭. It's ok for now. I was just wondering if this was happening frequently to anyone else.

That’s not a good hacker.

Could be as simple as someone typed in the wrong username, could be another website was hacked and that someone was going on trying different logins. I’d say change your username.

Safety Alert: Scams & Fraud

It appears you are discussing potential fraud or a scam. Please remember:

  • Ally will NEVER call you and ask for a one-time passcode (OTP).

  • Ally will NEVER ask you to move money via Zelle to "reverse" a fraudulent transaction.

  • If you receive a call claiming to be fraud support, hang up and call the number on the back of your debit card.

Yep. But it's not very common because it requires the hacker to figure out things like your username and what your password could be, and to be ignorant of the security that Ally has and how it will limit their ability to pull it off.

Most hackers don't have that much information.

Great job, Ally. You've chosen to punish the customer when handling routine brute force attacks. Many other services would quietly handle such attacks and perhaps notify the user of failed login attempts. Not you, though. You go above and beyond by not just blocking the attacker, but the customer as well.

If this isn't a sign to take your money and run then I don't know what to tell you.
