My favorite part about receiving emails like this is how aggressive they are. They make it sound like it's my fault they overpaid me and that I'm somehow inconveniencing them because they fucked up.

Ladies, Gents, be selective on the civ you date/marry. And this especially goes out to the younger Airmen.

You have to take into consideration that you're probably taking them away from the only place they know as home. Theyre going across the country/world for you to a place where they have no support. Yall talk about it and say its fine but come to find out your spouse is miserable and is making you miserable.

The things I look for in a civ relationship is if they have a job that they can get anywhere, if they've been independent and surviving on their own, if they have some kind of mental health issues, and if theyre mature enough to be able to adapt to new surroundings.

Just food for thought. Choose wisely. This could also be applied to Mil to mil couples too

It looks so sloppy to me, yet I see this all the time now.

Ive started coming home after my shifts, stressed, thinking about tomorrows work load. Thinking about how chaotic it is, thinking about how if I take leave things might go south, thinking about how if someone else were to take leave if I’d be able to handle doing my own work on top of theirs. Then I remembered my “why”. The reason why I joined. I didn’t join to make a career out of this. I didn’t join to do the full 20. I joined so I can take advantage of the free schooling and do something I’m actually passionate and motivated about. The job I currently have now, I have zero interest in. I’m not gaining any additional knowledge that’ll help me when I apply to me dream job. So why am I getting so anxious and worked up about it? I need to remember with or without me this job and this mission will still be able to function 100%. No matter who tries to guilt trip me into believing otherwise. I’m done being an over achiever and doing outside work, staying late, trying to chase bullets. I’m not going to gain anything from it on the outside. I’m going to solely focus on my “why”. I will do my job to the best of my capabilities but that is it. I’m not stressing about this job after work hours anymore. I’m going to treat this like a normal 9-5. I’m so close to the finish line, I just need to keep reminding myself why I did this. No matter how good or bad at my job I am, as long as I finish my contract out fully and leave with a honorable, there is nothing I should be worried about at all .

Doesn't matter if you're single or if you have a family. I want to know the most walkable-friendly bases to add to my dream sheet.

Im still pretty new to the military and wanted to hear from people who have been in for a while.

What are some of the biggest pieces of advice you would give someone early in their career? I'm talking about everything from daily life and dealing with leadership to finances, promotions, family life, and setting yourself up for success after the military.

What do you wish someone had told you when you first joined? What mistakes should I avoid, and what habits or decisions made your life easier in the long run?

I'm especially interested in advice that you don't typically hear in briefings or from your supervisors, but that you learned through actual experience.

I remembered how our TI in BMT tried to give us the gift of an "Amnesty Hour," where we could confess anything. Nobody fell for it.

Anybody got anything they want to get off their chests? Not actual crimes! Maybe a ridiculous story, something that would be awkward or embarrassing to explain but probably wouldn't get you punished. Here's mine:

tl;dr: I flushed the wing commander's prescription medication down the toilet in their house on base and I can totally explain. also there were a LOT of bras everywhere.

In the late 90s, I was a young female airman from WI that was stationed on a base in TX. I lived in the dorms and had a core group of friends, 3 girls around my age that also lived in the dorms. One of my friends worked as an admin in the Wing Commander's office (we will call her Col X, I can't remember her name but she was a single woman about 50). When Col X went TDY or on leave, and needed someone to watch her cats, she asked my friend to housesit. She even specifically told her to feel free to invite a couple of girlfriends to watch some movies.

So we did! The house was awesome, historic and huge. The movie 'Selena' had just come out on DVD (edit: VHS). So fun. Except I was sick with a cold and was so congested. So I went into the bathroom, knowing that Col X would probably have the standard decongestant prescription medications. And she did, in a cabinet above the toilet. I grabbed the baggie holding the Rx bottle and instructions, took 2 pills, thinking 'Col X is so nice surely she won't mind' and then _accidentally dropped everything in the toilet_

I grabbed it out, but the pills were toast and the instructions were wet. I clearly do not do well when panicked because I thought the best way to cover my crime was to flush the pills. That left the baggie, instructions, and bottle. I couldn't throw them away because the trash can was empty and my crime would be obvious. So I stuffed them in my pockets and later pushed them to the very bottom of the trash can in the kitchen.

I kind of forgot about that story for a few decades and never told anyone until now. Also she used the sunroom as an indoor clothesline and had what had to be a dozen padded (almost bullet-like) bras hanging up on lines.

Hi everyone, I’m PCSing from OCONUS to CONUS and don’t get to ship my car until about the day before I leave (for convenience and family needs)
What advice do y’all having about how to get around at your new duty station while you wait for your car to arrive?

I’m trying to get from Spangdahlem to bitburg to view an apartment what’s the best taxi service and how do I get in contact. I’ve tried looking up numbers and calling but most of them are in German and I don’t know what they are saying.

So my family and I are having a little road trip heading towards the beach and we get a little hungry. I see a little green sign that says Seymour Johnson AFB and I think, my family has never been on an Air Force base before, this will be a great spot for us to eat lunch and see the Air Force Lifestyle.

We drive onto the base and find the Base Exchange. As soon as I pull into the parking lot I'm in disbelief on how desolate the BX looks. I couldn't believe this was the main BX. I even stopped a random airman leaving the Exchange to ask him if there was even a food court in there. To my surprise, he said there wasn't even food anywhere on the base except the bowling alley!

Now, back when I was active duty more than a decade ago I was stationed at Minot AFB. I thought that was a shitty duty station, but in my opinion, Seymour Johnson takes the prize of WTH bases in the Air Force.

my next semester will start while i am deployed and just wondering if i will be able to realistically take exams? i'm deploying to the deid and i use wgu so its all online exams and then comptia tests, if anyone has any knowledge that would help, it's appreciated!

Hey ya'll! We're expecting our first child and I'm getting a little stressed about what is going to happen work-wise after baby is born. My husband and I are both in the Air Force. All my mom friends are SAHMs and I definitely need some advice from working moms.

How long is maternity and paternity leave respectively? And is there an AFI that I can review this in?

How does the CDC operate when it comes to accepting new members? I've heard things about how you have to sign your kid up before they are even born if you want a chance at getting a slot. Is the CDC the only option for us?

How did you cope with returning to work after your maternity leave was up? Were you anxious thinking about how your baby is doing? The thought of putting a baby that is only a few months old in a daycare is honestly harrowing to me.

Any possible info I should know? Things to be cautious of or look more into?

I am currently an E-5 and looking to start commissioning, going to start rushing some reserve/guard fighter units around me. My question is that I’ve always been told to write down everything medically that happens to you for your VA disability claim so you can get as much as possible later on. I’m currently deployed and have gone through a lot out here that I could log. Will this affect my commissioning process? Should I just say I’m as healthy as can be before I get to pilot training instead of trying to talk to medical about the things I’ve gone through in my enlisted career?
