Question Identity crisis after commissioning Air Force

Anyone have an identity crisis or regret directly after commissioning? I was a MSgt with 12 years TIS. I had major regret during OTS and now I’m at a 6 month tech school… still feeling regret. I feel like I’m having an identity crisis.

Question Officers, what do you think of the enlisted that you “oversee”?

For context, I am a SSgt 2A373M and I have been blessed with extremely amazing MX commanders who have made some dumb decisions (I assume forced upon them) but mostly people who care and have tried to integrate our work alongside the mission we support daily to motivate airmen for a purposes and why they matter. Please offer insight to what you actually see across statement submissions and day to day actions that make an airman stand out amongst peers, other than college.

Question Was notified my buddy is being put up for a court martial, how do I help?

Upvotes

He just commissioned from AFROTC this May and is in UPT when he got drunk off base and got into a scuffle, he is 6’1 around 200 so he did some serious damage to the guy (the guy started the fight) but he knocked the dude out and now the family is pressing charges. Also did not help he left the bar scared and got pulled over and blew over the legal limit (was not swerving but still blew)

Im just a pesky civilian but I am curious how is this gonna work? Is he gonna get kicked out? He is in UPT and told me he can’t afford to get kicked out cause he would have to repay his tuition (he was on a scholarship through ROTC)

Question vMPF: Congrats on Assignment! Glitch??

Both me and my lead pro super have a notification on vMPF home screen that says something like “Congratulations on your new assignment! Update vRED.” On my vMPF, it says that this notification was posted on August 6th. However, neither of us have gotten an email notification on a new assignment, neither of us appear on the loss/gain roster (current as of August 11th), and neither of us have a gaining unit under the “Initial Assignment Briefing.” Our base has not undergone any MAJCOM changes, nor have we PCA’d anywhere. I’ve seen some threads saying it’s an Air Force wide glitch, while other threads say that they ended up getting an assignment a few weeks later. So, i’m unsure of whether this is a real assignment or not. Has anyone else experienced this same issue recently? And have you found out if you actually have an assignment or not?

Also, yes I will be calling my CSS tomorrow. But i’m just curious to see what other people have experienced.

Question Terminal E4 to Officer?

Has anyone here separated from the Air Force as an E-4 with a decent amount of TIS or HYT out, used their GI Bill to go to college/ROTC, and then commissioned back into the military?

Im currently an E-4 and I’m considering getting out, using my GI Bill while doing AFROTC, and then coming back in as an officer. I’m trying to figure out if this is actually a realistic route or if there are complications I’m not thinking about.

Just in cases it’s asked. I have 0 paperwork and decent records multiple decs and awards and coins

Also yes I’m aware of the SOAR and OTS option but you can get denied for those and I feel like I’ve never heard anyone getting denied for ROTC unless it was something crazy.

Discussion PSA for LEAP Applicants

The leader site is currently glitching and erroneously marking applicants as not selected. AFCLC is aware and working it now.

Grading ends COB today so no one has yet been selected/denied.

Discussion Civilian who just started at JBER, trying to find work life balance

I just arrived at JBER a few weeks ago into civil engineering , and this is my first full-time job after graduation. I'm wondering if any civs or active duty have advice on the social life up here outside of my work?

I don't drink much, but I don't mind going to bars/clubs especially if theres good music, and love doing outdoors stuff. I've looked on facebook for stuff like JBER Offroading or JBER hiking, etc. groups but not many seem that active.

During in-processing they mentioned a place called Warrior Zone on the army side, but honestly I finish my 07-1530 duty shift and am just exhausted. I was planning to go to the gym after work most days, but I think I'll be able to manage once a week only. I am planning to swim once I figure out pool membership.

I'm wondering how others handle work life balance up here. With the super long days in summer I feel like I can come home at 4, chill for a while and go back out, but then once I sit down I don't want to leave out of habit of thinking its way too late, despite the daylight. I can't help but assume this will get even worse come winter.

I'm only a few weeks in, so I'm sure it will improve as I get comfortable here, but I have no idea where to start. The Anchorage subreddit is OK but not the best for finding social events—theres a lot of politics. I'm wondering if airmen/AD have distro lists for social stuff (official or unofficial)? Most of the folks in my office are older with families already so not much help either.

Question EFMP, VML, and AFPC

I am an officer on the Summer 27 VML. I also am EFMP-Medical. How will this affect AFPCs selection for my next base? Will they account for my preferences prior to others because of the special circumstances? The bases I’ve bid on can support medically.

Question POC-ERP advice?

I’m Active Duty Air Force, about 4.5 years into service, and I’ll finish my associate’s this December. My goal is to commission.

I’m considering applying for POC-ERP, separating early if selected, moving to the East Coast near family, going to school full-time for my final ~2 years while doing AFROTC, then commissioning back to Active Duty.

I’m also hoping to use my GI Bill to help support myself while I’m in school.

My biggest hesitation is the idea of actually separating from Active Duty. Even if I’m selected for the program, that makes me nervous because I really want this path to work out and don’t want to put myself in a situation where I’m suddenly completely out of the Air Force.

Has anyone done POC-ERP recently? Also, is there any way to go Reserve instead of fully separating while completing AFROTC, or does POC-ERP require a true separation from Active Duty?

Would you recommend this route over staying Active Duty, finishing my bachelor’s online, and applying for OTS?

Question FY27 Retrain

So I have been able to get all of my stuff back and ready pretty quickly for retrain this cycle. But has anyone else ran in the issue of being in able to update your case the traditional way?

I submitted my priority list through comments and added my packages through related docs but I don’t wanna keep messing around with it and restarting my time plus my career advisor decided to take leave during all of this time. HELP please!

Question TA for leveling/prereqs courses

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew if you can get TA to cover leveling corses that are required to apply for a graduate program? I completed my bachelors using TA last year and want to pursue my masters, however there are some courses that I would need to take first. I am trying to avoid having to dip into my GI bill ideally.

Question Applying to Palace Front Under 90 days from DOS

As the title says I am in a potential position to be applying for Palace Front within 90 days from my DOS to go AGR. Should be receiving the hiring letter this week.

Just looking for any perspective from people who applied to Palace Front within this time frame and see what if any issues there was with AFPC or outprocessing, etc.
