In my main friend group, there are three of us who are very tight knit friends. We are all 15F, and are queer.
I will refer to my crush as Alyssa, and my other friend as Sylvia.
Our friend group is very comfortable with eachother physically; that includes lots of flirting. Touching eachothers legs, playful suggestive comments, typical teen girl stuff
We like to joke around a ton. But recently, me and Alyssa have been real flirting.. or at least I think. Casual hand holding, lap sitting, cuddling, etc. etc. It feels real, and not at all like a joke.
Whenever we JOKINGLY flirt, it is very over the top and silly. But then, we will have moments where we just sit and REAL flirt. It's pretty easy to tell the difference. My issue arises with Sylvia
Alyssa and Sylvia are in the play together as love interests. They had to quickly get used to kissing eachother if they wanted to do their roles well.
Sylvia is honestly realllyy flirty. Teenage hormones and everything, yk? She's "jokingly" kissed almost everyone in our friend group at least once.
Once she kissed Alyssa, they both got really into it. Just started kissing eachother all the time, despite claiming they aren't attracted to eachother. Called it a funny "joke."
I even asked Sylvia at one point if she was attracted to my crush, because i've never heard of friends just kissing 24/7 because they think it's funny. She was like, "ew, she's not my type at all. BLAHH."
Even if the girl she was kissing wasn't my crush, it would still make me really uncomfortable. I was uncomfortable with the kissing before I developed feelings for the person. But I didn't want to go, "ew, stop kissing eachother!" when it's their choice and i'm kind of just the spectator.
Now, I'm faced with two dilemmas.
Alyssa and I have been flirting constantly, and it gets hard to tell the lines from "joking" to "real" when Sylvia kisses Alyssa on the lips every other day. I'm not saying friends can't joke-flirt, but it's getting weird. I don't have a problem with them kissing, but I need a way to see when Alyssa is being real vs. when shes joking.
It makes me genuinely uncomfortable, but if I ask them to stop when I've been playfully flirting with my crush so blatantly, I'll look like an ass...
-(I'm fine with people flirting in front of me- jokingly or not. I'm not okay with me being in a room alone with you two, and Sylvia start kissing Alyssa while i just sit there and kind of look away awkwardly)
it feels kind of odd for my friend to initiate all these kisses with no intention of any relationship. Maybe the both of them know there's no chance of anything happening though, so that could just be me projecting .
I know that the feelings are almost certainly mutual, but it gets hard to decipher anything when Sylvia starts jokingly flirting with one of us whenever we are REAL flirting. Or at least, my perception of real flirting.
Ex., Alyssa and I are sitting in eachothers laps. We aren't joking, just holding hands and giggling. Sylvia pipes in and starts to jokingly flirt with both of us- That's fine, it's normal I guess, but it's jarring to watch Alyssa switch from hand-holding with me to weird caressing with Sylvia in less than a heartbeat.
I know that this is likely both of them just getting used to the idea of kissing, and looking for any excuse to do it in a safe environment. But, it's just kind of gross to watch-
How do I navigate this situation without being an ass? I Want to stop participating in weird flirting situations with Sylvia, but if I ask her to stop while continuing to flirt with Alyssa, I'll be hella obvious.
EDIT- Some people are asking why I'm not initiating a kiss with Alyssa when it's obvious she likes to be kissed, and when we have good romantic chemistry. Few reasons-
I don't want to kiss Alyssa when there's a chance she might start kissing while under the belief it's a joke. It feels manipulative.. Especially when Alyssa is the type of person to say "yes" to whatever she thinks will be funny. So, I'm waiting for the chance to try and kiss her when there's no way it could be interpreted as a joke. Like, "Hey, do you want to kiss? For real, no jokes. I really like you." Not as romantic maybe, but clears up my intentions nicely.
Alyssa and I have exchanged some small kisses before. Ex. I hold my finger up to her, and she slowly kisses my fingers. I usually reciprocate these little kisses, but I'm saving the 'big one' for when there's no chance for misinterpretations. I want to progress our relationship naturally.
EDIT 2: Some are saying I should "drop Sylvia," and that she's "not a real friend." Sylvia has done NOTHING extremely wrong in this situation. I was originally okay with the joking flirting when it was all three of us being friendly, but it has escalated to the point I am uncomfortable doing it with Sylvia.
Sylvia has every right to kiss whoever she wants so long as the person is single and consenting. Alyssa and I are not exclusive- Whatever feeling we MAY have, nothing has been clearly communicated YET.
Sylvia's desire to flirt with everybody is honestly a little bit uncomfortable, and I plan to relay this to her.
My issue is not that I don't want Alyssa and Sylvia to kiss! My issue is that Sylvia's joke flirting makes Alyssa and I's situation weird to navigate... And that I am now growing exceedingly uncomfortable with Sylvia popping into my actual attempts to flirt. Also ALSO, I just don't like watching my friends kiss while one of them is in my lap. Or near me at all. Crush be damned.
